Michael B 1:08:45 AM
lit lit lit
Peppermint Pig (host) 1:10:41 AM
Hi Michael!!
Michael B 1:12:09 AM
I didn't know that you couldn't swear on the radio! I thought that was just for commercial stations...
Peppermint Pig (host) 1:12:28 AM
No swearing here!
Peppermint Pig (host) 1:14:43 AM
Oh, haha, misread your message--
Michael B 1:15:09 AM
Is there a genre you typically stick to?
Peppermint Pig (host) 1:15:11 AM
If anything, FCC laws are tighter on community stations than commerical
AndrewT 1:15:44 AM
ayyy blawan, good stuff
Peppermint Pig (host) 1:15:46 AM
Nah! I really try to play a mix and don't really do theme shows/special interest shows all that often
Peppermint Pig (host) 1:16:11 AM
really loving Blawan, scratches such a deep itch in the brain!
AndrewT 1:18:01 AM
this one is dark too, haven't heard of this name before but i dig it
AndrewT 1:18:06 AM
dark disco night
Peppermint Pig (host) 1:18:33 AM
dark disco... only for a moment!! can't succumb to it
AndrewT 1:19:58 AM
"tunes you'd hear at a basement goth industrial party in philly at 1am"
Peppermint Pig (host) 1:26:51 AM
Blawan for 1000 Alex
AndrewT 1:27:07 AM
oooh four tet, very nice!
Michael B 1:29:52 AM
Do yall like Steve Reich?
Peppermint Pig (host) 1:32:26 AM
I feel like I used to play some of Steve Reich but it was before I graduated in like 2019, I honestly can't remember
Peppermint Pig (host) 1:32:39 AM
Shoutout to my swiss cheese brain
Michael B 1:33:12 AM
Play it on the show? Or play it on instruments?
Peppermint Pig (host) 1:35:10 AM
Oh, on the show..
Michael B 1:37:37 AM
Definitely has some similar vibes to some of the stuff from tonight
Michael B 1:58:54 AM
Lukewarm take?
Michael B 1:59:41 AM
Lets just blast Xiu Xiu and have a terrible time together
AndrewT 2:02:42 AM
Yeah, they're calling it the quad state tornado now :(
Peppermint Pig (host) 2:04:19 AM
WILD stuff. Someone i know in Western Kentucky found the front of a safety notebook from an elementary school in Arkansas...
Michael B 2:04:53 AM
jesus
AndrewT 2:04:57 AM
this has probably been one of the craziest years for weather we've experienced
Peppermint Pig (host) 2:05:21 AM
It's a deeply disturbing thing to have to remind myself on the daily that it's just going to get worse
AndrewT 2:05:45 AM
We have a december tornado outbreak, Ida and its remnants, multiple tornado outbreaks in THIS tristate area, which even having one around here is an extraordinary event
AndrewT 2:06:21 AM
anyone who says climate change is a myth just has brain worms, simply put.
Michael B 2:06:31 AM
The flooding all along the raritan this year was alarming to say the least
Peppermint Pig (host) 2:07:16 AM
oh man, didn't realize the raritan had been flooding (I'm also not in that area right now but)
AndrewT 2:07:31 AM
The Raritan floods after Ida were the highest in recorded history, weren't they?
Michael B 2:08:17 AM
The river had to be about 15 or 20 feet above it's normal max height
AndrewT 2:08:31 AM
For the first time in my lifetime (I think) that whole stretch of Rt. 1 before Princeton, along the D&R Canal, straight up flooded to legendary levels too.
AndrewT 2:08:47 AM
It has flooded before but the old photos I've seen weren't as high as this year
Peppermint Pig (host) 2:09:09 AM
Oh yeah, Philly flooded horribly during that too, right?
AndrewT 2:09:35 AM
Yep, though the flooding at the expressway was due to pump failure. Otherwise the flooding would have been much less severe down there
Michael B 2:10:22 AM
Dark ambient is the perfect background track to this convo
AndrewT 2:10:51 AM
I spent the better part of the whole week after those storms researching articles and weather forum posts regarding the events. tl;dr it was a worst case scenario for the tristate area with worst case conditions. Hopefully it's a wakeup call for state and fed legislature to take infrastructure improvement and overhauls more seriously now.
Michael B 2:12:23 AM
If it's any consolation, the work is getting done
Michael B 2:12:40 AM
Just on an extremely slow rate unfortunately
Michael B 2:13:15 AM
Mainly due to the cost and massive daily-life-disruption of large scale overhauls
Peppermint Pig (host) 2:17:46 AM
You're right, Michael, this is the perfect soundtrack for this discussion
AndrewT 2:18:07 AM
very true. that little project at the 295 & north/south freeway interchange near camden has been going for nearly a decade now, and wont be finished till probably 2030 lol
AndrewT 2:18:28 AM
One of the retaining walls partially collapsed earlier this year because they decided to use sand-like dirt
Michael B 2:20:39 AM
One other consolation is that there is incredible research being done to face these problems
Mike Verba 2:21:11 AM
Good night for "Land Of The Glass Pinecones"
Michael B 2:21:29 AM
On an academic level, grid and infrastructure is being looked at specifically in context of severe weather
AndrewT 2:22:38 AM
We have a lot of catching up to do, but the irony of disasters is like you said the research and potential solution proposed afterwards are nothing short of human miracles
AndrewT 2:23:11 AM
The biggest hurdle to pass regarding the research is getting it translated from paper to real life
Peppermint Pig (host) 2:23:21 AM
@ Mike V-- I'll look it up and throw it in next week if it fits!
Michael B 2:25:58 AM
Good night yall!
Peppermint Pig (host) 2:26:20 AM
Good night Michael! Thanks for listening tonight
AndrewT 2:29:45 AM
