Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:09:11 PM
In the early 70s there was an "underground" Philly DJ that I liked alot who was a follower of a "Guru Bawa". Great DJ, would slip in Bawa" stuff at the time that didn't offend me, and would occasional drop in sitar music which realllly "cooled" out his program. I really enjoyed him, don't even remember his name. Maybe on WDAS FM
Mike Constantine 12:11:03 PM
WMMR used to play Alan Watts talks around 1 or 2 Sunday mornings
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:11:50 PM
Mike, do you remember "Be Here Now"?
Patrick White 12:12:07 PM
Philly radio just added another suburban country music FM station and I can’t find Dr Jack Kervorkians phone number .

Be Here Now was Baba Ram Dass (Alan Watts book?) which was a counter-cultural smash, a guidebook for beginners seeking cosmic consciousness. It was a must have until it wasn't.
Mike Constantine 12:15:53 PM
I used to follow Baba Rum Rasin
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:16:40 PM
Why did Country take over Philadelphia music stations?
Mike Constantine 12:17:04 PM
"Country"
Mike Constantine 12:17:43 PM
Philly hasn't had a country station since WRCP
Patrick White 12:18:05 PM

Elias Throckmorton 12:19:58 PM

Some fine bone playin' goin' on here.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:36:32 PM
I was just gonna say
Elias Throckmorton 1:37:19 PM
If you were seeing "Stepping Razor" tags across Philly, you were witnessing a specific era of his evolution before he transitioned to his iconic block-letter ESPO visual campaigns in the late 1980s and 1990s. The name itself is a direct nod to the 1977 reggae anthem "Stepping Razor" by Peter Tosh. Perhaps.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:39:36 PM
More sophisticated than I knew!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:41:58 PM
It's all coming back to me

Elias Throckmorton 2:57:51 PM
Great show Jerry- I dived in on the Alpert groove- It was all shaving cream.
Elias Throckmorton 2:58:01 PM
Yes, you're thinking of "Shaving Cream" by Benny Bell (real name Binyomin Zamberg), written in 1946 and originally performed by Paul Wynn (a.k.a. Phil Winston). It's a classic "teasing song" — a folklorist term for this exact technique. How it works: Each verse builds a rhyme that makes the listener brace for a certain four-letter word ("...I stepped in a big pile of..."), then the singer draws out the sh- sound and pivots into the refrain: "Shaving cream, be nice and clean, Shave every day
