Howdy KPC!

Richard of Rocky Hill 10:38:05 AM
John Zacherle, the greatest of the TV horror movie show hosts in the 1950s & '60s! Known first as "Roland" in Philly and later as Zacherley in NYC. The "Cool Ghoul" nickname was given him by none other than Dick Clark, the famed "American Bandstand" TV teenage dance show.
KPC (host) 10:40:41 AM
Yes that's what the article from 1970 said. Richard Meltzer loved the guy!
Teresa Peacock 10:41:03 AM
Howdy KPC & Pat G.!!! I love the Primitive Ring track! I knew it had to have something in common with Fuzz since it exhibited all manner of like-70s-protometal-but-somehow-better licks. @KPC -- totally get why it may be the best album you've heard all year.
Teresa Peacock 10:42:34 AM
And Goodest Morning to you, Rocky Hill Richard!
KPC (host) 10:43:27 AM

Yes we need more deviant Spanish pop!
Richard of Rocky Hill 10:49:13 AM
Zacherle was later a popular rock radio DJ in NYC. A True Story: In the 1960 elections, Zach had a promotion that he was running for President. My parents let me put a "Zacherley for President" bumper sticker on our car. When Mom parked to vote, she got in trouble with a policeman for having campaign material within 100 ft of a polling place entry. When she explained it was a joke by someone on TV, the cop sternly pointed to the sticker and declared, "It says 'For President', doesn't it?"
Teresa Peacock 10:49:29 AM
Agrimensor K reminds me a little of my beloved CCCP from Italy, also during the '80s.
KPC (host) 10:50:02 AM
Richard that's a great story! I hope she kicked the cop in the shin
Amy Lee 10:50:03 AM
...for lack of a better description. If I only had known a genre to refer to when I was scouring for this sound in the 80's
Teresa Peacock 10:51:11 AM
@Amy -- Exactly! Just look what we've been missing! Until now.
Amy Lee 10:52:32 AM
...and if the record store employees weren't so terrifyingly punked out to 13 yr old me...I would have asked.
Teresa Peacock 10:55:08 AM
Terrifyingly punked out record store employees and cops, man -- so frickin' self-important and humorless!
Richard of Rocky Hill 10:55:18 AM
Nah, the cop let Mom go without a summons. But she happily recalled that incident every election day thereafter. Many years later, I was in Greenwich Village at an Off Off Broadway show. And during intermission, who did I recognize in the lobby but ... Zacherley himself!!! I told him the story with the emphatic punchline "It says 'For President," doesn't it?" And as you can imagine, The Cool Ghoul got a monstrous chuckle out of that. :-D
Teresa Peacock 10:57:02 AM
Wow, Richard! That is so amazing!!!
Amy Lee 11:10:49 AM
Such sweet sounds...

Amy Lee 11:12:57 AM
Its what makes the world go around
Richard of Rocky Hill 11:13:50 AM
Although Zach was not one of The Undead, he did live to 98 and got a major NY Times obit. There's at least one of his Shock Theater shows on YouTube. Low budget but delightfully clever. Zach used to have himself switched into the films he was showing, becoming momentarily part of the action. Example: In the 1931 "Frankenstein" some medical students laugh during a lecture. Suddenly there was Zach at a desk, furiously taking notes and shushing them. :-D
Amy Lee 11:13:56 AM
Yes.
