"What's on Ur Mind" by The Freebies. Don't Back the Front Fri Oct 2 with Dana K on WPRB Princeton 103.3 FM

TWO PINTS OF LAGER AND A PACKET OF CRISPS *PLEASE*

Dana K! How ya doin'?

Hey Marcus! Doin' good.

Have you ever played Wide Boy Awake? I just reconnected with their music after 40 years

I think I've definitely played Slang Teacher at some point

That's the one! I knew you knew. That was a NYC dance anthem back in the day

Another ancient gem is Lifeboat "Queen for a day" - college hit from '85

Hi Dana and Marcus!

It's great see Splodgenessabounds in this playlist, and to hear their song

If you don't know it, take a listen and maybe add to you Jangle pop repertoire

Hello Rob!

I hate beer but I love chips

Hi Rob! Hi Krista!

Sup y'all UwU

I've been craving a cider with blackcurrant

Cider season is upon us

Hi Sammy!

@Dana, my wife and I saw Cab Volt in DC last week along with our Cab Volt-loving friend and their partner. Not bad. I liked opener I Speak Machine a little more

Rick Flair is "Nature Boy"

Gotta add this to my "where is Elvis" playlist

I Speak Machine was pretty good!

Didn't Bugs Bunny say "nature boy" first?

I think there was a Behind the Bastards episode about the "wellness" cult leader NatureBoy

Many Nature Boys

HELLO DR DANA K !!!!

I'm a doctor now!!? Hiiiii

I thought you went off + got your phD ???

I only have a MSc I'm afraid

all good

Captain Ahab got her PhD though. She's now going by Dr. Ahab on WESU

@Marcus and @Dana, WHFS in the DC area played Wide Boy Awake's "Chicken Outlaw" enough in the early 80s that I started playing that song in my head when Marcus mentioned the group in the chat

I started the nj devil book: HEATHER

Back to back Vancouverites!

O i was thinking of DR ahab !!!!!!

This semester Dr. Ahab is on every other Monday between 4 and 5 pm at WESU (https://www.wesufm.org/). Next show is Oct. 12

*but I haven't heard Wide Boy Awake since the 80s

I was thinking about Dr. Demnto

And Dr. Cosmo!

Hi Dana K and all you fine peoples in the chat. @Dana coffee on an empty stomach? Same here, how else ya gonna get stuff done, right?l lol

TNX ROB fr MD - .. hahha 'MD'

Hi Alan!

Sup Alan

Sammy: Yard work and gettin' ready for winter...

...snow, power outages, spare batteries for FM WPRB for sure

...and plenty of....

Nice an did the same an i should do that

KRISPIES!!!!

shelf life of junk food is very long..

Im writing all that down

Also tome for me to spark

With the insert?

Sadly no insert which knocked down the price a little

Coffee + Dana + WPRB = Banger of a night

Hell yeah

in the UK pronounced "Bangah"

it's a banger innit

You can say "puff" on the radio?

or is it "poof"?

Here you can!

slag!

This song is Viz. magazine come to life

I know i heard this song from somewhere

URGH! A Music War

Beam me up for a bangah!

this DBTF is off to a ripping first hour

Athletico Spizz '80

Isn't that the Urgh performance with the silly string

Hi Jim! Thank you!

I only saw it on USA Night Flight after 3 am drunk and stoned. I remember very little. Thankfully I bought the album

There's actually going to be a screening of Urgh in a few weeks (?) at PhilaMOCA with Jon Solomon as special guest. HOWEVER I screened it four years ago as part of Dan Buskirk's series at the Rotunda.

@Dana K, these circa 1980 songs are so so wonderful!

Urgh: 10/13 PhilaMOCA, Philadelphia, PA

Thank you! A Tuesday!

Other dates in the northeast (sadly not DC) near the bottom of this page: https://www.setlist.fm/news/07-26/urgh-a-music-war-to-tour-the-us-45-years-after-its-release-73d6a2bd

TOTALLY WIYADH!!

Dj Dana K! Recently the K stands for Koncertz!

and Kold Brew 😎

I'll be at u5 fest. my first time seeing toody cole or anything dead moon related!

where in Princeton?

Oh, Witherspoon St.

Cool, Andrew! I'm so excited for Toody

Hi Corn Colin!

i most certainly did not have enough good corn this summer.

we are talking less than 5 ears

I didn't get any good corn or tomatoes :(

Hey guys, I live next to 2 acres of....Corn!!

What about blueberry s?

I did get some blueberries

i worked on a good pint of blueberries over the last few days.

the pint before was not so good. i gave up on it put the rest out for the squirrels. they didn't even want them

Well damn where they Hamilton blueberries?

Hey Alan are you able to get free corn ?

alan is it greater then or less then 50 ears of corn you have "quietly borrowed" from the neighbors.

FYI everyone I'm DJing the Neon Dream Clown Lounge again next Saturday!! 6-9pm come thru if you're around!

Dana, what kind of a set?

Sammy: sort of hehe..

Punk/post-punk/new wave, similar to what I play on the show, but all vinyl and 70s-80s only

nice!

or noice as we say in Jerzy

See you tomorrow Dana K thanks for the show UwU

@ Corn Maize: only a few nibbles 'cause it's too much trouble to cook haha

Thanks Sammy!

Any time also a great set to get stoned to

Yap yap yap

for a few years there in the late 80s thrasher record reviews and those skate rock comps were life.

yip yip

Yachts!

Where appa at

this rips

shooters?

Salem 66 what a great band

yeah shooters

A Ripping Spin

Salem 66 was great!

@Dana, Kaupungin tyttö means city girl according to Google Translate, and Vaahtopäät comes out as "foamheads"

Thank you, Rob!

That intro riff sounds like the start of "Listen to the music"

Dope set DJ Dana K thanks for punking it out

Always!

We are on a birdwalk early tomorrow morning so must head out. Thanks for the show, Dana, and good night everyone!

The Nils! but not River of Sadness

melodic punk from the good 'ol days

so melodic!

Night Rob

Later Rob!

Thanks for all the bangahs tonight, DJ Dana K! Been lurking, not chatting, but wanted to give you a solid thumbs up! 👍🏽

Thank you Chris!

Later, Rob!

Last weekend I was in the Pine Barrens! At YMCA of the Pines' Camp Ockanickon...

I did a few overnight trips to Camp Ockanickon when I was at Quaker school!

How is it out there ?

Cool! Yeah, I was there for a South Jersey Quaker gathering. The Nor'easter made it YMCA of the Puddles.

Only Ones!! And not their hit!

To be fair, I never get sick of hearing the hit

No argument there.

NME would describe this synth as "peppy"

🔥 🔥 🔥

One of my favorite bands

Now you know

This is also a great compilation

"Now you know" is my favorite song of theirs

I have the Propeller Product 7" with that Neats song on it!

I should say their first record camped out on my turntable for about a year

0️⃣ 🤩

Records on this show I bought upon release (or thereabouts) Urgh! A music War, Big Lizard in my Backyear, The Neats, The Yachts

The Nils

I have. Yachts, Urgh, and Neats on vinyl, Big Lizard on CD, no Nils sadly. But I certainly didn't get them on release!

great sets as usual Dana K! Heard from about Undertones to the Rats on my drive home. Loved that Finnish one and the Welsh too. Zips I'm in Love too. So many great ones. Thank you

I always thought about requesting The Neats but not sure if it fit in, so glad you played them. Dana K for the win

Thanks for tuning in Brian!

The Neats and Lifeboat got me into Jangle Pop

Lifeboat I have not heard!

It took me 40 years to figure who they were, it was a lost song "Queen for a day", give it a listen

From Newport

Before online track listings, sometimes you never got the bands name

I'm still looking for "what's wrong with my skateboard" punk rock from 85-87

Is that the name of the song?

it's the refrain, heard it probsbly on WFMU

The. Hits. Keep. A. Comin'.

Great one here.

This is a perfect song IMHO

This and The Records Starry Eyes just have that thing.

The Records!

Both of these songs I just played were on the Rhino DIY UK Pop I compilation. I didn't do that on puprose!

Starry Eyes was on UK Pop II

There's also a comp called "Starry Eyes" with the Records and the Yachts

I think I have Starry Eyes and Do Anything You Wanna do and Undertones on quite a few comps/box sets in the ol hard drives.

THATS ONE OF THEM MARCUS!!! YES!!!

Neighborhoods "Prettiest Girl" is also on that DIY comp

A great choice. Good night all. Great show Dana K !!!!!

Another top notch show Dana!

Super show Dana! Thanks and safe drive home & bcnu! .......................🛸

Goodnight folks! Thank you all for listening!
