How's Friday, NJ? Let's run some red lights
Mats Sabbath 3:03:16 PM
ah the mighty Kinski
Dan Ruccia (host) 3:04:31 PM
I saw them play in Philly around when this one came out. They put on a great show!
Carlos Ramone 3:07:42 PM
Upstairs at Nicks? Right down the street from Khyber
Dan Ruccia (host) 3:10:19 PM
I don't think that's it? Maybe it was the Khyber? I'm trying to remember if the stage was at the back of the room or around the corner
Brian D 3:44:35 PM
Love the Consonant. Clint from Burma. Good understated lil rekkids
Carlos Ramone 3:44:55 PM
Did people take a vow of silence today??
Dan Ruccia (host) 3:45:16 PM
Yeah, it's a super solid disc. Also Chris Brokaw and Matt Kadane!
Joe Roohr 3:47:28 PM
YEO WELCOME BACK DAN RUCCIA
Dan Ruccia (host) 3:47:48 PM
Heya Joe!
Joe Roohr 3:48:33 PM
Are we in for another legendary rock show like last time or goin for a different vibe this time
Dan Ruccia (host) 3:49:08 PM
Definitely in the rock mood today. Got big shoes I'm filling in for!
Amy Lee 3:49:45 PM
I was just thinking of how my minds eye thinks about the Khyber. I would describe the 'stage' as front of the room due to the proximity of the street. I saw many 21+ shows as an under 21 so the bar was secondary to me.
Joe Roohr 3:50:22 PM
Sweeeet! Still listening to that speed stick track on repeat
Dan Ruccia (host) 3:52:08 PM
@Amy, yeah that's how I remember it, too. But there was, like a weird door you had to go through to get to the live room from the bar. And yeah, I remember before turning 21 being really pissed when I found out whoever was at the Khyber...
Brian D 3:52:58 PM
When it was the fully named Khyber Pass. And "The Khyber" was just the nickname shorthand. Beautiful dust bunnies clogging every surface/object on ceilings, walls, and that glorious old wood bar. And a thousand beers on tap with an encyclopedia beer menu. Back in early 90s when that was a treasure trove for the recently turned 21 ish. And a GREAT FOOKN JUKEBOX OF ALL JUKEBOXES! And some damn fine live music in that sweat box room next room over. Great times in that jernt.
Dan Ruccia (host) 3:53:53 PM
I think Pat from Clamour Club was posting on Insta the other day about the epic Sun City Girls show there in like 05 or so
Brian D 3:56:53 PM
Saw many indie unknowns and local Phila bands. Then in late 1993 the Meat Puppets played there. They were usually a Trocadero or TLA band at that point. Backwater was in the set just before the Too High to Die lp came out. Loved it and had no idea it would take them over the top. Great opener band they had used before when in PA NJ. Curt said at end they would not do the hidey hidey encore routine because well.... "backstage" is 2nd Street as in it does not exist per se. So they just stayed put!
Brian D 3:58:20 PM
Saw just about every MPs show in Phila and some in NJ from 1991 on. Missed a couple. And was not hep yet so missed the great City Gardens MPs shows. But fortunately the innernette served up some fine recordings of many of these shows mentioned.
Carlos Ramone 4:00:36 PM
@ Brian..i read what is left of City Gardens is slated to come down very soon, if not yet done
Brian D 4:01:08 PM
Good windy weekend going on so maybe City Gardens bldg won't survive that.
Brian D 4:08:13 PM
BARIS!
Amy Lee 4:08:58 PM
@Dan - early-mid 90's my friend & I became 'interns' there (can't remember if we got word they were looking or we just decided to insert ourselves). We made flyers for shows & put them up around the city among other promo-related stuff. I am very thankful & fortunate to have seen so many great shows.
Brian D 4:13:13 PM
Been loving that "new" Dur Dur Band. "Vol 3". 1988-89 material. Wonderful Somali sounds.
Rofflelectic TM 4:15:41 PM
Great stuff for a windy ride today for me Dan. Brian is right stuff might wanna come down. I was riding north and my scooter was not peppy into this wind at all. \
Brian D 4:34:08 PM
Good stuff Dan! Thanks

Waltzed into a free ticket/bracelet just in time to see the Pixies do a tight lil 1 hour set at Sea Hear Now in Asbury Park last weekend. Just standing on boardwalk, thinking we'd maybe tailgate and hear some of the show(s). Then .... miracle bracelet. Walk in. Just in time. Great set
Rofflelectic TM 4:46:26 PM
Sometimes the gods really do just smile Brian. :) Too cool!
fr1dayafternoon 4:46:41 PM

Thx for the great show Dan!
Brian D 4:59:35 PM
The Pixies next to the ocean is perfect. Saw them in Asbury Pk before a decade ago. They did every song with ocean, water, New Jersey, Spanish language etc in them.
Brian D 4:59:58 PM
Both versions of Wave of Mutilation of course
Rofflelectic TM 5:00:26 PM
@Brian, The NJ Surfing Society soundtrack! LOL
