@ Number 6 (host) A mild disagreement that Morocco was the first country to recognize America as an independent nation. It's true that Sultan Mohammed III gave de facto recognition when he opened Moroccan ports to American ships on Dec. 20, 1777. But the first formal recognition may have been the Netherlands accepting John Adam's credentials as ambassador on Apr. 19, 1782. But either way, it's important to celebrate a North African Muslim nation as being a leader in friendship to the USA.
