Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:03:21 PM
Today's show is going to be a little dense, my chat MAY be more limited than usual, maybe not.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:04:30 PM
The sleep part is becoming permanent for me! I get it
Mike Constantine 12:05:18 PM
The last 32 years it's been awful.
Patrick White 12:05:27 PM

Patrick White 12:19:52 PM

Elias Throckmorton 12:26:51 PM
finally threw the laptop out the window into the creek, dried it off with the electric chair drier, re-started and logged back in- and here I am. Its your misfortune and none of my own.
Elias Throckmorton 12:27:08 PM
speaking of Halloween.
Elias Throckmorton 12:28:17 PM
Tom Rush.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:28:45 PM
ET, you old blueblood. You have enough money to house a hundred computers
Elias Throckmorton 12:29:46 PM
Mike- I wouldn't recommend Quaaludes or Tequila, but they have always worked for me.
Mike Constantine 12:31:14 PM
The old disco biscuit
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:31:33 PM
Have you read about them, Mike?
Elias Throckmorton 12:32:12 PM
I'm a bit more of a Bloodhound Jerry. I was researching Evidence records- and came upon the 'other' Jerry Gordon.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:34:08 PM
Then there's the one who was a jazz guitarist from DC. He once wrote to me: "You're Jerry Gordon, I"m Jerry Gordon, let's do a record deal
Elias Throckmorton 12:35:51 PM
I don't often tell people this- but my given name is Gordon Jerry. Weird- right?
Mike Constantine 12:36:11 PM
Yep....read....nothing more!
Elias Throckmorton 12:36:40 PM
'that' Jerry Gordon was a DJ on the west coast. Crazy.
rick hallahan 12:43:23 PM
Nice melodic J.J. Johnson-like bone solo!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:43:56 PM
I'm with you, Rick! Smooth!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:45:11 PM
Steve Davis, he's a killer!
Elias Throckmorton 12:47:16 PM
I don't know why- may be time to throw the laptop out the window again- but the current track does not 'update' But I think I recognize that piano player.
vildachaya1 12:47:33 PM
Hey friends. Listening on our last day of family beach vacation down the shore. I would credit Coltrane’s Favorite Things for turning me on to Jazz. I borrowed it from our local library.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:48:23 PM
Well he's playing like McCoy Tyner but he is the illustrious Harold Mabern.
Elias Throckmorton 12:49:09 PM
Hey Vildach.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:49:53 PM
VC, I hope you and family are having a great. My Favorite Things. Legent! How did you know to take it out of the library?
Elias Throckmorton 12:51:15 PM
thanks Jerry. The fifths are circling overhead.
rick hallahan 12:51:53 PM
What turned me on to Jazz was Groove Holmes "Misty" on AM radio of all places.
Mike Constantine 12:53:30 PM
I dipped my toe in withthe Fusion of the early 70's
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:54:02 PM
You were a schwinger even when you were a little boy! Like Pat who used to hang out in jazz clubs in Camden when he was 6 and then to Trenton to meet up with Mike
vildachaya1 12:55:03 PM
I liked that song from the movie. I didn’t know the ‘standards’ from the 40s but I knew that song and I knew jazz was cool. John’s face on the cover also seemed cool. I wa probably 11 or 12. The White Oak Library in Silver Spring Maryland. I also took out Bitches Brew mostly cause it had bitch in the title. It was harder to wrap my ears around bitches brew but I listened anyway.
vildachaya1 12:57:38 PM
Someone probably donated those records to the library. I owe them thanks
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:59:15 PM
Mike, let's not forget the great influence on you by Keith Emerson.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:59:55 PM
Elias, are you drinking fifths with Charles Bukowski and DBG?
Patrick White 1:00:35 PM
Shoutout to The Wooten Brothers Family for great free show on Camden Riverfront past Monday.
Mike Constantine 1:00:59 PM
Yep....Keith is up there
Patrick White 1:01:54 PM
A supervisor once claimed I was the worst USPS employee since Charles Bukowski.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:02:06 PM

Mabern Plays Coltrane
vildachaya1 1:04:11 PM
Patrick the guitarist brother of Vic is kind of magical in his playing, right? When I saw them I couldn’t figure how his hands and various rubber band things on his guitar were leading to the sound he was making
Elias Throckmorton 1:04:20 PM
Bukowski- I never wanted to work for the post office. He was like Henry Miller in that way.
Patrick White 1:04:20 PM
I always viewed myself as more of a John Prine USPS employee. Without the talent, lyrics, looks Guitar or money . But our last names both had 5 letters.
Elias Throckmorton 1:06:25 PM
Mike- this explains everything. the paper dust strolling through your nostrums. you should have been shopping saxophone reeds.
Mike Constantine 1:07:23 PM
Bought my reeds at the Hatboro Music store....I can still taste them
Elias Throckmorton 1:08:14 PM
#2 (inside joke for reed players. )
Elias Throckmorton 1:08:31 PM
the rest of you can go to a Love Supreme.
Patrick White 1:09:10 PM
Let’s face it radio was much better when Babs Gonzalez music was in regular rotation.
Elias Throckmorton 1:09:57 PM
the circular motion!
Patrick White 1:11:57 PM
Headed up to bucolic Flushing Queens Saturday to root on our Phillies.

Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:24:31 PM
Not that there's anything wrong with that
Elias Throckmorton 1:25:27 PM

I haven't seen too many things lately. But I did have a groundhog dream last night. Me and my cat were on vacation, we also had out groundhog with us. we took a minute at a rest stop for the groundhog- he found a hole in the ground. It was quite tense for a minute- but then I had to make room in the car for three groundhogs. Mostly I was trying to avoind tolls on the new york state freeway- I 87 North.
Rob from Maryland 🦀 2:24:47 PM

Elias Throckmorton 2:31:31 PM
This is middle 50's Jerry? Its as much about recording tech as talent- but the talent was always there. the tech was new.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:35:11 PM
we just got to 1959
Elias Throckmorton 2:36:36 PM
to my original point- the talent was always there- but it was amplified- and recorded and distributed over new broadcasting networks. (great track)
Dá Bəng Gôu 2:36:47 PM
Yup, we stopped at the Chittenango Travel Plaza. Just outside Utica upstate NY Thruway. It was 1957 or '59. I had to stop to tinkle.
Mike Constantine 2:37:37 PM
And let the groundhog out.
Elias Throckmorton 2:38:33 PM
I was quite worried. I knew he had to let free.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:38:50 PM
