Paddy Reilly's The Town I Loved So Well is basically the unofficial Anthem of Derry, especially the embattled Bogside neighborhood, which is where the Battle of the Bogside happened, August 1969, kicking off the era of Irish history we call "The Troubles". When I was in Derry visiting my grandmom's old house in August 2019, I show up at the Bogside and there is a band playing this song loudly on a stage set up right in front of the YOU ARE NOW ENTERING FREE DERRY mural.
