This is a Laborwave show that explores the reactions to industrial disasters from around the world, with special attention to Three Mile Island. Industrial death is what leads to regulations, and the destruction of OSHA is direct disrespect of those workers' graves. As much as I can I tried to find songs from people in the areas where the disasters happened.

a coworker of mine was born oin central PA and his family moved to NYC when he was quite young. his family house was rented out and a few years later the tenants stopped paying rent. and his dad brought the whole family back to PA for a trip to check out the property and talk to the tenants. he found the place was totally trashed and the tenants refused to pay rent so they all went to the courthouse to file for eviction. the whole family sat in the judge's office for hours,

they waited and waited and finally the judge's secretary said the judge wouldn't be seeing them and they should probably leave town because there was an accident at the nuclear power plant. it was March 28 1979 and Krista I guess you can guess which power plant!

they left and his dad called the mortgage company to say he wouldn't be paying then mortgage anymore and they could go ahead and foreclosw on the house.

also I know this tune, it's the handsome cabin boy!

there are hundreds of songs about three mile island, I was surprised at how many and from around the world, too

I'm going to refrain from making a million requests and it's not exactly an industrial accident but "love canal" by the vores immediately sprung to mind

Nvm I just found lyrics to both songs so I see that they are different

that aberfan quote about the child survivors not wanting to be seen for fear they would upset people by being alive is absolutely devastating

I was just reading the Once and Future Witches which has a section about the triangle shirtwaist fire

They say that this Lightfoot track was done in one take, the session musicians had no rehearsal... I wonder.
