Patrick White 12:17:34 PM

Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:18:16 PM
Hey ET
Patrick White 12:18:17 PM
Owners of Emerald City purchased the venue when they made an offer that couldn’t be refused.
Elias Throckmorton 12:19:07 PM
There is fine Patti LaBelle mural at 34th and Mantua Ave in West Philly.

How was the show?
Mike Constantine 12:22:19 PM
LOVED Emerald City....what a great place
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:22:47 PM
Patrick, did you ever go there? I assume many times
Elias Throckmorton 12:24:26 PM
you tawkin to me? The crowd wanted to tear down the curtain. Winter said- a bunch of ornery mofos. We all wanted to hear that guy tear it up. The energy was Static!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:25:57 PM
He was really a great one! So many great recordings.
Mike Constantine 12:27:56 PM
I heard Winter's version of Highway 61 the other day....I think it was Buskirks show
Patrick White 12:28:29 PM
Iggy Pop rolling on stage after midnight! XTC were featured regularly on 3 rd street Jazz top 10 punk singles at the register.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:28:40 PM
One his first or second Columbia album. 2nd, I think. Biblical!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:38:53 PM
Yes, it was XTC 1981
Mike Constantine 12:39:41 PM
Excellent! Thanks for the tip!
Chef Emeril Lagasse 12:39:56 PM
BAM!!!!!!!! I've been listening to ALL of Woodstock, and Johnny Winter's set was a great one, especially the songs brother Edgar joined for
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:40:56 PM
Hi Chef! Putting your time to good use, I see!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:41:26 PM
Bring back Woodstock vibes!
Mike Constantine 12:41:49 PM
Don't eat the brown Geritol
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:42:01 PM
Hahahahahahaha
Elias Throckmorton 12:43:39 PM
XTC did pop up into the news cycle lately Why? They we accused of using the the I–V–vi–IV (1–5–6–4) progression, also known as "the four magic chords" or the "Axis of Awesome" progression.
Patrick White 12:43:56 PM
Goldings,Bernstein and Stewart are also high powered personal injury law firm.
Elias Throckmorton 12:46:02 PM
Its was 1976. JFK Stadium. Wrong place Wrong time. Gary Wright was there. Never have I been more disappointed with a keyboardist. Well not until Keith Emerson committed suicide.
Mike Constantine 12:47:35 PM
That was the Yes and Frampton where people were starting fires in the stands
Chef Emeril Lagasse 12:49:23 PM
certainly a worthy endeavor to listen to ALL of woodstock! its an amazingly eye opening and immersive experience, i feel like i understand it on a much deeper level now as a historical/cultural/human event
Elias Throckmorton 12:49:54 PM
there was a fine throwing of plastic bottles moment. A storm of coherence. Everyone! Throw you bottles in the air! Like you just don't care!
Mike Constantine 12:50:43 PM
Do you have the Rhino Woodstock Bo Chef?
Elias Throckmorton 12:51:25 PM
The Horns know. They always know.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:53:44 PM
My late cousin Steve who used to dance on the Jerry Blavatt show went to Woodstock to sell pipes and hippie garb, came home with a wife!
Mike Constantine 12:54:48 PM
If I did that there sure wouldn't be any peace and love
Elias Throckmorton 12:55:02 PM
Woodstock. Classic Temporary Autonomous zone. TAZ. It just doesn't last. 3rd Street Jazz was the exception that proves the rule.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:55:07 PM
Is it human nature to light fires and throw bottles?
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:55:55 PM
Thank you, ET
Mike Constantine 12:56:28 PM
My friend went to that show...said everyone got sunburnt and when the Sun went down it got really cool out
Chef Emeril Lagasse 12:57:03 PM
@mike yes I poked around and found it! It's very comprehensive - I'm on the last disc now, after hendrix, and there are just extra field recordings of the cleanup, helicopters, and people talking
Chef Emeril Lagasse 12:57:40 PM
really scratches the archival/completist part of my brain
Mike Constantine 12:57:49 PM
I guess that's disc 3

Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:09:39 PM
She does lots of covers. Is it, Brian?
Brian D 1:10:53 PM
Yes. A 1980s hit from Men at Work. Same Australian band that did Down Under.
Elias Throckmorton 1:15:18 PM
Bass is reminding me of Jaco
Elias Throckmorton 1:17:15 PM
Joe Zawinal still cursing at the Downbeat editors.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:17:42 PM
Did that happen?
Elias Throckmorton 1:21:25 PM
It's all a dream Jerry. The Controversy: DownBeat gave Mr. Gone a one-star review, stating the band had "over-orchestrated its sound" and made experimentation "sound processed," a stark contrast to the five-star reviews the band had previously received for albums like Heavy Weather (1977). Band Reaction: The review caused significant outrage, with members like Joe Zawinul and Jaco Pastorius arranging a rebuttal interview in the magazine to defend the album's production and composition.
Elias Throckmorton 1:22:16 PM
manufactured outrage.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:24:59 PM
Thank you for that history lesson
Elias Throckmorton 1:30:35 PM

Dá Bəng Gôu 1:31:32 PM
yup, just to piggyback on what was said, the high-level guardrails is what separates them from the jazz leadership hierarchies. The top-of-funnel thought leadership and music police management needs to be the number one priority this quarter with mo' .Big Bucks yielding to higher profitability. yo cheesesteak. Great trombone.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:33:57 PM
DBG, I would like to hit most critics over the head with a trombone after eating a cheesteak like Popeye!

Brian D 2:28:08 PM
Original Yardbirds Heart Full of Soul was w Jeff Beck lead electric guitar imitating a sitar (playing an open D string drone while fretting notes on the G string above and slightly bending them just a nudge off pitch. They tried to use sitar and tabla musicians first but they did not quite have the same rock n roll beat rhythm sensibility (similar thing happened wZep members in India). Then they released the 1 you played today on bonus track version

... plus the sitar version does not have the backup vocal "whoa oh whoa oh" answers to the verse lead vocal. And no "I've got.." from the lead vocal to start the chorus. It's likely they weren't done adding vocals to that sitar version and abandoned it.

I saw Tom last time through. Two years ago I think. Great show. He kinda modernized and stripped down his old hits with just a standard rock band. Like no horns or anything. It just works. Don’t know if it will be the same this time around
Patrick White 2:41:26 PM

The youth culture of the early 60's pulled really young kids like me into music earlier than we may have otherwise. We all just wanted to be cool. and we were 8, 9, 10 years old
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:50:31 PM
But VC, you were smoking weed at Hebrew School
vildachaya1 2:50:53 PM
Thinking back the burden of being cool was with me for a long time. I di not smoke week until the ripe age of 14
Mike Constantine 2:51:11 PM
When the Beatles hit I thought I'd never get a chance to be cool

Patrick. Yeah last time I saw Kenn Kweder was at that same place. Can’t remember if it was last summer or the year before. Of course Michael Tearson brought him out. Just TRY and keep Michael Tearson away. Haha. I love that guy though. He is MY Murray The K.

Jerry, 13 American Avocets, and 1 Whimbrel. Both shorebirds, the Whimbrel much rarer around DC especially in summer and autumn
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:57:38 PM
Hopefully next summer, I will look them up to see what they look like
Brian D 2:58:00 PM
