Kadri Gopalnath (1949 – 2019) pioneered the saxophone in Carnatic music. One of his teachers was vocalist and mridangam player T. V. Gopalakrishnan. Kadri Gopalnath made some adaptations to the saxophone to permit playing Carnatic music.

Hariprasad Chaurasia is a flautist in the Hindustani tradition, born in 1938 in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. He had to learn music without his father's knowledge, as his father wanted him to become a wrestler.

This was recorded in his concert in Chennai in 2003, with Delhi Sunderrajan (violin), Thiruvaarur Bakthavatsalam (mridangam) and E.M. Subramaniam (ghatam).

Amjad Ali Khan & Lalgudi G. Jayaraman made a splash with their duet LP "South Meets North" in 1983, a rare jugalbandi between Hindustani and Carnatic musicians. The success led to further collaborations, this one was originally broadcast on Doordarshan (Indian State TV) probably in the mid 1980s.

Shashank Subramanyam was born in 1978 in Rudrapatna, Karnataka. He is widely acknowledged as a legend of the bamboo flute. His training has been mostly in vocal music, initially under his father, and then by Palghat K.V. Narayanaswami, and Hindustani music under Pandit Jasraj. He is largely self taught on the flute.

Shruti Sadolikar Katkar (born in 1951 in Kolhapur, Maharashtra) is a classical singer of the khyal style in the Jaipur-Atrauli gharana. She learnt music from her father, Wamanrao Sadolikar, and Gulubhai Jasdanwala.

The Malladi Brothers, Malladi Sreeramprasad (born 1971) and Malladi Ravikumar (born 1973), obtained their music education initially from their father Malladi Suri Babu and grandfather Malladi Sriramamurthy.. Subsequently, they studied under Sripada Pinakpani, Nedunuri Krishnamurthy and Voleti Venkatesvarulu.

Nikhil Ranjan Banerjee ( 1931 – 1986) was an Indian classical sitarist of the Maihar Gharana. A student of the legendary Allauddin Khan, Nikhil Banerjee was known for his technical virtuosity and clinical execution. Along with Ravi Shankar and Vilayat Khan, he was one of the leading exponents of the sitar.

Ranjani and Gayatri are sisters who were born into a musical family in 1973 and 1976 respectively. They started their training on violin, but have been singing together since 1997. They have been students of P.S. Narayanswamy.
