When I was young, the only version of Summertime was by Billy Stewart.

If you asked me which artist I've seen perform more than any, as a long time Philadelphia area resident, it's definitely Jamaaladeen.

The Disney shows were some of the most fun Sun Ra shows - I went to see them at Chestnut Cabaret having no idea they were going to do the Disney tribute - I was beside myself with joy

I first heard "Summertime" on "The Best of Sam Cooke"

The band marched on and off to Whistle while you work - so fun -

I loved the Chestnut Caberet. I saw John Cale there once.

The actual harmonies written by Gershwin for Summertime are really dark. It is kind of an intense piece to play on piano.

Nothing like hearing Sun Ra on the radio while wearing my sun ra shirt today.

Down here it's cloudy and dry, though we too could get some heavy rain later

Drove through a cloudburst north of the city to get here....

Dan, have you heard Zoh Amba yet? I just found her yesterday. She's a free jazz saxophonist but also has a singer songwriter record out on Matador. She's really amazing.

Nobody responded to my question which artist have you seen more than any other.

The first hour was met with a very interesting drive out to KoP. Heck of a gully washer I drove through, stay safe out there if you're driving!

@Marcus For me, it would be a tie between Infected Mushroom and Godspeed You. I've seen both groups 3 times

Most times: The Ben Vaughn Combo! We were roommates for a spell...

@Marcus - that would be the Grateful Dead. You had to go to all 3 nights when they came to town cause one show would suck, one would be meh, and the other would be out of this world. You never new which night they'd hit. It is part of what made them unique -they weren't afraid to suck now and again.

@Marcus, Scrawl in the 90s and Government Issue in the 80s come to mind

I think my most seen artist is Stereolab then Mary Timony/Helium, Sonic Youth, Grateful Dead, Mogwai

Used to date a woman whose ex-boyfriend was in Scrawl. Got to hear lots of "Jeff" stories....

@dan - The band I've seen the most would be my band but mentioning it here cause CC from Ben Vaughn plays with The Wild Bohemians too.

Rob, I only saw Fugazi once. At the Troc. Unforgettable.

I woulda loved to see Fugazi. Some other bands I need to see but haven't yet.. METZ, The Garden, Alien Nosejob, TAGABOW... Too many lol

And Sade if she ever goes back on tour again someday

Used to see the Philly band Nixon's Head regularly in the '90s...

I saw Nixon's Head, Electric Love Muffin, and Dead Milkmen at the Troc.

I still have the cassette 'You're Soaking in it'.

I love Marshall! Saw the Arkestra when he was 99 years old. I want to see him this weekend at Grounds for Sculpture if I can.

Nels Cline is great. Saw him with Jamaaladeen about five years ago.

Marshall Allen has kept the show going every time I've seen him. With Wolf Eyes a few years ago the house lights were up and it reached a point where they just stood and watched him and DM Hotep. When he had his trio with Matthew Shipp recently he was playing while they took a group photo and kept them playing an extra hour.

It's mind-bending.
