Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:11:39 PM
My Aunt Bertha was yelling Yo at my cousin Steven in the fifties
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:12:19 PM
Rick, that tells us alot about you! You better settle down and listen to this track!

rick hallahan 12:17:44 PM
I did play in the Sal Perez Salsa Band for a time. Playing gigs and looking at the Latin babes move in the audience was real fine.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:18:33 PM
Rick, your musical history is similar to that of Mr. Natural
Russell Woessner 12:19:23 PM
Nice set of covers to open the show!
rick hallahan 12:19:41 PM
I've come full circle, as I now get to listen to your show and just enjoy!!!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:20:00 PM
Rofflephonic's super power is to show up at the very last second on his bike and saving the day
Roffleaphonic 12:21:48 PM
I do that!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:21:54 PM
Hi Russ, thanks. Are you going to see the Ra band tomorrow?

Russ, this track was your discovery.
Russell Woessner 12:28:05 PM
I caught a glimpse of the Ra mural recently. I’m definitely gonna be at the dedication. It’s walking distance from my house! https://octobergallery.com/event/sun-ra-mural-at-october-gallery-museum/

Roffleaphonic 12:58:00 PM
I am a loose conglomerate of skills Russ. :)
Elias Throckmorton 12:58:34 PM
The artificial thinking machine says yes, the Arkestra is playing, coming on at 2 PM, and Marshall Allen shall be there.
Roffleaphonic 12:58:40 PM
The Mural is in East Falls?
Roffleaphonic 12:59:06 PM
ish
Elias Throckmorton 12:59:39 PM
Are you related to the Hooverphonic? Prophet six zero zero nine one This is the flight number of our galactic sun
Roffleaphonic 1:02:15 PM
Until the Deathstar blew up my planet Elias. Now I just hang out and watch stuff. :))
Elias Throckmorton 1:02:45 PM
When in East Falls- there are only two ways to get to Germantown. Hike up the Wissahickon gorge on a mule train, Or teleport via Saturn. Helps if you play the Saxophone.
Russell Woessner 1:03:10 PM
Steve Turre with James Carter is at Jazz Cultural all weekend: https://www.smallslive.com/events/32788-steve-turre-sextet/

Sonny Ray Blount
Roffleaphonic 1:05:59 PM
@Elias, I often put my scooter on the West Chestnut train and go down the trail to the river and go back to NoLibs.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:07:01 PM
hence Roffleaphonic's superpower
Roffleaphonic 1:08:15 PM
In plain sight is the way to go Jerry. Nobody cares. :)
Elias Throckmorton 1:08:24 PM
NoLibs? Sounds like a place I might like. Meet me at El Bar 'round Midnight.
Roffleaphonic 1:09:00 PM
My mom won't let me stay up that late. :)
Elias Throckmorton 1:10:10 PM
me too. i am trying to not be resentful of being sent to bed a 8:30. The exact moment Daktari came on.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:11:00 PM
Rick likes to be sent to bed at 6:30
Roffleaphonic 1:11:15 PM
DAKTARI! OMG!
Roffleaphonic 1:11:37 PM
Okay that wins
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:11:59 PM

Clarence the Crosseyed Lion
Elias Throckmorton 1:12:46 PM
I only just learned I am not 'Baby boom', nor Gen X Apparently I am Generation Jones. Kinda digging that. 199962
Mike Constantine 1:13:35 PM
I was belched forth
Roffleaphonic 1:13:37 PM
Judy...
rick hallahan 1:14:28 PM
I only went to bed at 6:30 if the Jetsons were already on.
Mike Constantine 1:14:33 PM
Right!...the chimp
Roffleaphonic 1:15:10 PM
I recently heard that too. They can rewrite the definition all day, but we were there.
Elias Throckmorton 1:15:16 PM
David Hedgison as Captain Crane. Lebanese American. I just accepted everything as was presented. I also wanted to change my name to Kowalski as a 4 years old.
Roffleaphonic 1:16:39 PM
I changed my name FROM Kowalski! Long story... lol
rick hallahan 1:17:41 PM
You must be related to Killer Kowalski. He was the wrestler who bit a guy's ear off in the ring.
Roffleaphonic 1:19:01 PM
I am sure there were killers in my family, but I stuck to the kids table back then.
rick hallahan 1:19:35 PM
Hahaha!
Mike Constantine 1:19:43 PM
That's the first place they'd look
Russell Woessner 1:20:04 PM
Trombonist Kalia Vandever performs at Solar Myth tonight: https://www.arsnovaworkshop.org/programs/kalia-vandever/?mc_cid=0ab4895e01&mc_eid=0353c1c79e
Roffleaphonic 1:20:32 PM
Hiding in plain sight... :)
rick hallahan 1:20:58 PM
Sonny Rollins owned this tune!
Roffleaphonic 1:21:23 PM
That riff!
Elias Throckmorton 1:21:26 PM
Just look in their eyes as they refuse to eat the greens. Waiting for desert of course.
Roffleaphonic 1:22:01 PM
Jerry brings it!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:26:41 PM
Thanks, guys, a totally "organic" melody, common to all mankind, out of the conciousness of Sonny Rollins.
Roffleaphonic 1:27:36 PM
Something about being there in it he does so well.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:28:17 PM
I would have loved seeing Rollins perform this live!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:28:57 PM
This is in Japan, and a Japanese guitaris who was in Rollins band
Elias Throckmorton 1:29:07 PM
I don't know much about Sax Math, but Rollins had a kind of 'broad' sound. A later player, Author Blythe had been compared to him.
Elias Throckmorton 1:29:21 PM
I was just going to ask about the guitar.
Mike Constantine 1:29:49 PM
I know about sax and violins
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:30:46 PM
Yoshiaki Masuo
Elias Throckmorton 1:31:03 PM
do you have a litty bitty piece of toilet paper stuck to your heel? Check and see
Roffleaphonic 1:31:26 PM
That's too cool. Not gonna catch a bunch of Japanese jazz players on this side of the Pacifica
Roffleaphonic 1:32:30 PM
I am in no way that presidential Elias.
rick hallahan 1:38:19 PM
I'm loving this track! Vocal spot on and swinging big band.
aiffrig 1:38:21 PM
ain't no fashion show here for the tunes
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:39:32 PM
Rick, I predicted that would be your reaction.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:39:53 PM
Hi Aiffrig!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:44:06 PM
Rick...
rick hallahan 1:44:07 PM
Jerry, you turned me on to Veronica Swift. I am a true Swiftie!!!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:44:28 PM
Hahaha
Roffleaphonic 1:45:16 PM
Jerry is that library section to get lost in.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:46:01 PM
Yes, absolutely. These shows will keep you busy for more than an evening
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:46:51 PM
Brad Mehldau, ridiculous
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:47:26 PM
His brain swings and works rapidly
Roffleaphonic 1:49:02 PM
Wish I had fifty more years to doink around here. Brain does like the ride.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:49:42 PM
Roffle, you are one giant cerebrum
Mike Constantine 1:50:59 PM
I've been known to be a giant Richard cerebellum
Mike Constantine 1:51:19 PM
cerebrum
Roffleaphonic 1:51:33 PM
I should talk to Russ about that neuro issue. :)
Roffleaphonic 1:53:30 PM
PS: I am not smart, but I love it it when I hear it.
aiffrig 1:54:21 PM
don't mess up my hair i mean brain
rick hallahan 1:54:25 PM
Jerry, this "Cuckoo" show is one for the ages! Wow!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:55:02 PM
Mike, wasn't Richard Cerebrum in the Carpenters?
Roffleaphonic 1:55:18 PM
@aiffrig, Zappa called his hair brain ends as a kid .
Mike Constantine 1:55:40 PM
Heh....I believe he was!
Russell Woessner 1:55:46 PM

Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:57:15 PM
Roffle, be careful what you ask Russ because you will get a bill
Roffleaphonic 1:57:42 PM
LOL
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:59:00 PM
This fidelity is dang outstanding
Roffleaphonic 1:59:26 PM
I saw workers doing stuff at Coltrane's place last week on my way to East Falls. Something was up.
Karen Swaine 2:08:18 PM
Chuck Berry's maybellene was the first 45 I bought. And I had this Bo Diddly on a 78! I am so old!!
Mike Constantine 2:09:46 PM
Join the club, Karen
aiffrig 2:10:04 PM
tasteful not old
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:10:32 PM
No Karen, you're hip! A legend! Do the other people in your orbit know how deep and special you are?
Karen Swaine 2:15:53 PM
I want to colleg, my mom gave all my 45s away to a friend of HERs who was having a party. I never got them back. Years later when she saw one of those late night TV ads for an LP box of 50s R&B hits & she bought it for me.. I have the LP box. omg Tutti Fruitti.. which reminds m, have you seen the movie The Girl Can't Help It? lolol.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:18:54 PM
Karen, I saw a Little Richard excerpt from the movie. Your mother realized she made a mistake and acknowledged it. That was nice!
Roffleaphonic 2:18:58 PM
@Karen, my dad had a huge pile of 78's I only wish I had now with that knowledge that comes with age.
Mike Constantine 2:20:05 PM
I still have my great grandmother's 78's.....mostly classical.
Roffleaphonic 2:21:10 PM
Cardboard bones
Elias Throckmorton 2:21:49 PM
and smoking big cigars. My favorite Baritone voice.
Roffleaphonic 2:22:04 PM
I broke quite a few...
Mike Constantine 2:24:29 PM
I broke an Al Jolson 78 when I was a kid....fragile stuff.
Elias Throckmorton 2:25:59 PM
Jim Morrison quoted this behind the wheel of a 67 Mustang.
Roffleaphonic 2:26:05 PM
Kids are unwitting criminal's just because...
Karen Swaine 2:26:18 PM
hi Mike & Roffleaphonic, my dad had dozens of classical 78s, he sold them to someone in florida. The only 78 he gave me was a 12" (78) of "Sing Sing Sing" but I was careless and it ended up with a bite out of the edge, ouch! my bad.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:26:24 PM
These 78s were relics of our childhood. Impressive in that our parents didn't have that much luxury time to lay out and listen to records
Elias Throckmorton 2:27:02 PM
Exactly why i recommend knitting lessons. Knit knit, pearl knit.
Elias Throckmorton 2:27:44 PM
cause we were mixing paint tints.
Roffleaphonic 2:29:30 PM
"Sing Sing Sing" done by the Tachibana’s High School girls is something to behold.
Karen Swaine 2:34:19 PM
what's happening? are these recordings of old 78s.. they are not tracking.
Mike Constantine 2:35:20 PM
Dave Edmunds did a fine version of this around 1971
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:35:52 PM
Is there an audio problem?
Russell Woessner 2:36:16 PM
Pianist Sullivan Fortner tonight with Kenny Barron & Luis Perdomo and tomorrow with Bertha Hope & Orrin Evans at the Jazz Gallery: https://ci.ovationtix.com/36369/production/1279950?performanceId=11827541 Livestreams!
Mike Constantine 2:36:22 PM
Not on my end
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:36:37 PM
OK, good, thanks Mike
Roffleaphonic 2:36:39 PM
The audio problem was in 1956... lol
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:37:32 PM
Thanks, Roffle. Not all audio sources are created equal
Yo-Yo Mok 2:37:44 PM
Great music Jerry!. You are tickling my doowop funny bone. cheers. I gotta run.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:38:00 PM
yo yo!
Mike Constantine 2:38:39 PM
Hit and Run Mok
Roffleaphonic 2:41:25 PM
I have a "Yo vote!" sticker courtesy of the Philadelphia election board for voting. :)
Mike Constantine 2:42:36 PM
Yeah...there a number of different voting stickers for the primary
Roffleaphonic 2:43:40 PM
I have a few, because they let me take them Mike. I like the Chinese one best to be honest.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:43:41 PM
I got a kick out of that Roffle
Mike Constantine 2:46:21 PM
I do mail in because I work the polls so I got the usual boring sticker.
Roffleaphonic 2:47:11 PM
You work at the polls? My hero!
rick hallahan 2:47:11 PM
Speaking of Yo and Philly, does anybody remember "YoYo". He was a bald roly-poly old guy who was always sitting courtside at The Palestra. The word on the street in the 70s was that he was a homeless guy who lived under a bridge. But who knows. He was a nice friendly man.
Mike Constantine 2:48:23 PM
Yeah.....It's a long day (6:30 AM to 9 PM) but worth it
Roffleaphonic 2:48:57 PM
Thanks Mike!
Mike Constantine 2:49:28 PM
