Hi Lizbot!
Lizbot (host) 5:03:51 PM
Hi Alex from Media!
Lizbot (host) 5:03:59 PM
Thanks for tuning in!
Number 6 5:04:02 PM
How's the AC going, it didn't seem to be working yesterday?
Alex from Media 5:05:15 PM
Thanks for broadcasting!
Lizbot (host) 5:05:40 PM
@Alex from Media - Happy to be here! Just a little toasty!
Lizbot (host) 5:07:08 PM
@Number 6 - It's 85 in studio. I have the portable unit on, and M put it on before I got here.
Alex from Media 5:07:15 PM
For full disclosure I am Alex Crowe as you have met in these here chat boards before. Merely synchronizing my chat room identity.
Lizbot (host) 5:08:10 PM
@Alex from Media - Ah, I had guessed as much, but wasn't 100% sure!
Number 6 5:08:33 PM
@Lizbot- Not good for the equipment for sure!
Lizbot (host) 5:09:58 PM
@Number 6 - Yeah, I have been thinking about that...I don't look forward to when it hits mid-90s or higher later in the summer! Blech. It's a gorgeous summer day, though, just too toasty inside!
Alex from Media 5:10:00 PM
About an hour ago I was treated to the sight of a Baltimore Oriole flitting up and down in the trees.
Lizbot (host) 5:11:03 PM
This Welsh language chorus sounds like "Bagly, bagly, bagly". Myabe it's about Ed Begley Jr.
Alex from Media 5:17:09 PM
Liking this Leopardo without exactly having a reason.
Lizbot (host) 5:17:54 PM
@Alex from Media - If you're wondering what that Leopardo singer's accent was, (as I was!,) it's Swiss! I would not have guessed that
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:19:36 PM
Afternoon everyone! @Lizbot, it's always good to hear this song. I think I might have had it on a tape from some era of mine; I eventually bought the album
Alex from Media 5:19:54 PM
I'm going to have to ponder whether there is a Swiss acent that transcends the German, Italian and French.
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:20:18 PM
@Lizbot, yikes, 85 degrees inside!

@Number 6, good thing, I was already looking at flights ;-) jk
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:22:49 PM
Baltimore Orioles are always nice
Alex from Media 5:23:17 PM
Hi Number 6! Sorry I neglected to greet you at the door.
Lizbot (host) 5:23:32 PM
@Number 6 - I saw that Fall Fest listing. I love the song Hey! Luciani! WOuld love to go, but it being sold out isn't my main obstacle. Crossing a sea for it definitely poses a larger obstacle!
Number 6 5:24:31 PM
Hi Alex, no prob!
Lizbot (host) 5:25:32 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - I love The Soft Boys / Robyn Hitchcock so much. I've seen him live a handful of times, but I'd loooove to get a Soft Boys reunion! Underwater Moonlight is one of those albums that's been with me through many different periods of my life and it still resonates
George Korein 5:27:18 PM
“ Pick the cats eyes out“ is about selecting the eye color when designing a cat
Lizbot (host) 5:27:28 PM
@Alex from Media - Hmmm. I am now thinking about Swiss bands I play, and come to think of it, most that come to mind (that I play, anyway,) are instrumental...Sylvie Courvousier...well Yello, who did Dah Dah Dah, is Swiss!
Lizbot (host) 5:27:34 PM
Hi George Korein!
Lizbot (host) 5:28:36 PM
@George Korein - haha, YES. That's a good interpretation. I say that disclaimer on air when playing that song because one time, many years ago when we still had a studio call-in line, a listener called to express anger about those lyrics
Lizbot (host) 5:30:01 PM
@George Korein - All those Scr-tum Poles sonds are sung so joyously, but as is often the case, joyous-sounding songs can have dark lyrics, generally more often than dark gloomy-sounding songs have joyous lyrics!
Lizbot (host) 5:31:15 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - Yeah, it's a bit too toasty in here! I normally don't run outta water, but I'm afraid I didn't bring enough today! I'm a 1/6 of the way through my show and I've had half my water...!
Alex from Media 5:32:43 PM
@ Lizbot. I think we're going to break AI by using Yello in our Swiss accent training set.
Lizbot (host) 5:33:05 PM
haha, I messed up! I blame the heat!
Lizbot (host) 5:33:19 PM
I could've let that song play, but I had it planned for later in the program

@Alex from Media - though I WILL say, bridge maintenance workers were some of our biggest bird rescuers when I volunteered at Wounded Knee Wildlife Rescue in Tabernacle, NJ as a teenager. They were instructed to knock nests off the Ben Franklin Bridge and other bridges during maintenance to discourage moisture/rust build-up, but many were soft-hearted enough to save the nests, box them and bring them to us!

Hello Lizbot and all! This has been a perfect show for my first real swim of the year.
andrew pantry 6:22:03 PM
that feelies show was one of the best ever! especially the 22nd set
andrew pantry 6:22:20 PM
2nd set!
Mary Jones 6:22:27 PM
Very envious of everyone who went to the Feelies show
Lizbot (host) 6:23:17 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - That is wise. I love an early-morning birdwatch in an equatorial location! a) Cuz being places where the sun rises early is one of the only times I'm up early enough for a long early morning birding trek, b) I need a siesta in the mid-day if I'm out in the heat! When we went to Costa Rica, it was ungodly hot from 11-3. Birding excursions were all 5 am, rise by 4. I got up at 3 am to go to Gerardo de Dota Cloud Forest and successfully saw both a male and female quetzel!
Lizbot (host) 6:23:27 PM
Hi Mary Jones!
Lizbot (host) 6:23:33 PM
Hi andrew pantry!
Lizbot (host) 6:24:29 PM
@Mary Jones - Excellent! I'm glad this show serves as a poolside soundtrack in summers! I was influenced by the music at my community pool during South Jersey summers in the 80s!
andrew pantry 6:24:44 PM
and mekons 50th anniversary show tomorrow!
Lizbot (host) 6:25:13 PM
@Mary Jones - I'm also a bit envious! Our A/C in studio kinda crapped out! It's H O T in here!
Mary Jones 6:26:07 PM
@Lizbot oh no! This is not the time for an A/C breakdown—how long till a repair?
Lizbot (host) 6:26:13 PM
@andrew pantry - haha, I literally LOL'd at "the 22nd set"! They sure have stamina for some very long shows!
andrew pantry 6:28:39 PM
i wouldn't put it past them!
Lizbot (host) 6:28:41 PM
@andrew pantry - Nice! Are you going to a Mekons anniversary show? I won't be making it to that! Did you get to both Feelies nights? I did the Belle & Sebastian 30th Anniversary that Friday night at Pier 17 and then Feelies in Jersey City the next night! Great weekend despite all the rain!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 6:28:45 PM
@Lizbot, I'm glad you got to see quetzals! Summer birding in the Delaware coastal marshes was awful because of the temperature and humidity. Oh, and the mosquitos
Roffleaphonic 6:29:05 PM
Something about that Raincoats tune.
Lizbot (host) 6:30:17 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - oooof. Watch out for those mosquitos! My dad's aunt got West Nile years ago. Yeah, we have ventured into that marshland on the south tip of Seaside Heights, but the mosquitos can be too vicious there!
andrew pantry 6:30:35 PM
i just went to the saturday show with my daughter
Lizbot (host) 6:30:54 PM
@Mary Jones - Haha, it's complicated...Jury-rigged solutions for now! I have a fan pointed at me!
Lizbot (host) 6:31:03 PM
Hi Roffleaphonic!
Lizbot (host) 6:32:01 PM
@Roffleaphonic - Can't beat the energy of The Raincoats. I love those early singles, the first album, and their live Kitchen Tapes so much. Saw them live a couple of times and talked to Gina Birch and Ana da Silva. Amazing people!
Lizbot (host) 6:32:41 PM
@andrew pantry - Nice! I was up on the balcony spotting DJs past & present. Came down to the first floor near the end
Mary Jones 6:32:49 PM
@Lizbot it’s just Throwback [to the 1920s] Thursday in there
Lizbot (host) 6:33:17 PM
@Mary Jones - ha, probably when this building was built, so that's fitting!
Roffleaphonic 6:35:31 PM
@Lizbot. Yuppers. 11 on the knob feel.
Mike Lupica 6:36:18 PM
Late comment on this, but just wanted to say that the phrase "would you like a bag for that" has never resonated with me the way it did when it was spoken by a record store clerk on the day I bought my copy of that Scrotum Poles single.
Lizbot (host) 6:36:19 PM
@Roffleaphonic - Raincoats are transcendent, and one of my all-time favorite songs ever is their "No Side to Fall In"
Rob from Maryland 🦀 6:37:30 PM
@Lizbot, I miss summer birding in the Delaware marshes ... the heat, the humidity, the hot sun, the getting up at 5 a.m. to arrive by 9 a.m., everything. Except the ****!!! mosquitos
Lizbot (host) 6:37:37 PM
@Mike Lupica - Ha! There are forever the "bleepity-bleep poles" to me because I trained my brain to read them back as that eons ago!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 6:38:33 PM
And sorry to year about your dad's aunt getting West Nile. I think I had stopped going to the Delaware marshes by the time West Nile hit DC/MD/DE
Rob from Maryland 🦀 6:39:38 PM
@Lizbot, this set has been great. Raincoats, Dressy Bessy, Mirah, Muffins
Roffleaphonic 6:40:32 PM
You buy the best weird shit Mike. Your great, great grandkids will make bank at Christie's in a long number of years. on the 7inch and stuff alone .
Lizbot (host) 6:41:13 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - Worst mosquitos in my life were these incredibly aggressive swarms outside a cave we drove in Texas Hill Country after attending a family wedding in Austin. We drove way out there to the smallest bat species in the world, the western pipistrelle, who live in these caves. Well, their population had dwindled and as such, the mosquito population EXPLODED, and they waited just outside the cave entrance to tear into us as we ran to our rental car!
Lizbot (host) 6:42:19 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - Fun fact about the western pipistrelle, aside from it being a very tiny very adorable bat: The females tend to kick all the males out of the cave. There were only females in there, hence the population numbers declined and the mosquitos feasted!
Lizbot (host) 6:43:33 PM
@Roffleaphonic - Now I'm imaging a world in which The Scrotum Poles singles are auctioned at Christies! Is that an optimistic future? Seems better than the path we're on!
Lizbot (host) 6:44:28 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - Thanks! And re: my dad's aunt, I actually meant his cousin. And she was 90! His aunt would've been like 140!
Roffleaphonic 6:44:41 PM
Saw my first mosquito in years in Philly last night. I granted mercy, but there was an ultimatum.
Rob from Maryland 🦀 6:46:55 PM
@Lizbot, O M G 🦟 😱 🏃 🚗 🦇
Lizbot (host) 6:48:18 PM
@Roffleaphonic - Damn, really? I live in Philly and they make themselves known to me allllll summer! One was in my kitchen hoovering around me last night!
Lizbot (host) 6:52:05 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - I think about that cave and those bloodsuckers a lot, not least because the Texas state park geologist guide assigned to lead the cave tour asked us and the only other people there, a dad and daughter, if we wanted our tour "with or without religion," we all agreed without, and then this supposed geologist spent the entire tour talking about god!
Ossy 6:56:42 PM
nice
Rob from Maryland 🦀 6:57:52 PM
@Lizbot, yikes
Alex from Media 7:00:57 PM
Worst mosquito attack I endured was out in a boat fishing in Canada. We had hooked a fish big enough to tow the boat around. it looked like we were about to get it tuckered out and bring it in, but the sun went down and the mosquitos rose. We had to cut the line and hurried back to our cabin all covered in bites.
Lizbot (host) 7:01:19 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - ALSO, I know truly understand why they call it "hill country"! I have driven on high mountain roads and along cliffs that looked a lot scarier, but these hills were all very sudden and sometimes you didn't anticipate a dip, lots of short but intense hills like the smaller but faster hills of a rollercoaster
Dale Hazelton 7:06:01 PM
herro. beautiful guitar piece. very windham hill, which is NOT a bad thing.
Lizbot (host) 7:06:14 PM
Hi Dale Hazelton!
michael gudgeon 7:07:00 PM
sets been great popped in to check who this was great stuff!
Lizbot (host) 7:08:46 PM
@Alex from Media - Ugh. My worst mosquito experience aside from that cave in Texas Hill Country was boat-related. I was 17 and had aged out of my Pine Barrens summer camp, aside from a new program called Trailblazers were-in a teen led other teens on a backpacking/canoeing adventure through the marshland along the Mullica River. It was a particularly dry summer and the water level was too low.
Ossy 7:09:20 PM
ugh mosquitos...
Lizbot (host) 7:10:42 PM
@Alex from Media - Our canoes kept hitting normally deeply submerged fallen pine tree trunks and capsizing, dumping our sleeping bags and, worse, our drinking water supply, into the cedar water! Then we had to sleep on the marsh with NO bug protection...you can imagine how bad that was. Too many of our supplies ended up at the bottom of the river, and a girl got very sick from desperate dehydration leading to her drinking cedar water and getting ghiardia! I got horribly sunburned and bitten!
Lizbot (host) 7:10:52 PM
Hi michael gudgeon! Thanks!!
Ossy 7:11:14 PM
sounded like corrine bailey rae at first

@Alex from Media - Needless to say, the camp did NOT renew that program for a second summer!
TAndy 7:12:08 PM
PCO 💙💙💙💙
Lizbot (host) 7:12:54 PM
@Dale Hazelton - haha, I don't mind me some Windham Hill! Look, my old parents took me to the Wilmington Opera House to see George Winston play piano barefoot back in the 80s, I'm not ashamed to say!
Alex from Media 7:12:58 PM
@ Lizbot - I think that story sums up the summer camp experience for a good many people.
Lizbot (host) 7:13:15 PM
@TAndy - Summer afternoons call for some introspective penguins!
Lizbot (host) 7:13:56 PM
@Ossy - oh yeah, Mirah and corrine bailey rae have some overlap!
JimmyCarter IsMy Hero 7:15:16 PM
Ahhh, finally here. Now everything will be ok.
Dale Hazelton 7:15:39 PM
i have a couple of windham hill albums from the 80s. nice relaxing music, have some philo and rounder records too.
Lizbot (host) 7:16:01 PM
@Alex from Media - yup! At least I managed to evade those pervasive cedar lake leeches that were always clinging to the wooden dock during swim and canoeing times! I always avoided touching the submerged part of the dock as much as possible!
Lizbot (host) 7:16:09 PM
Hi JimmyCarter IsMy Hero!
Lizbot (host) 7:16:18 PM
@JimmyCarter IsMy Hero - Glad to see you!
JimmyCarter IsMy Hero 7:16:41 PM
Glad to be here! Thanks for being here for us.
Alex from Media 7:17:14 PM
Buffy Sainte Marie soothes....
Dale Hazelton 7:19:20 PM
great song. this album and lionheart are my faves.
Lizbot (host) 7:19:48 PM
@Dale Hazelton - Oh I had quite a few Rounder Records in middle school when I had a folk and country blues phase. I think they put that MIssissippi John Hurt "Avalon Blues" album I listened to a lot at the time. Still like that stuff!
Lizbot (host) 7:20:37 PM
@JimmyCarter IsMy Hero - Happy to be!
Dale Hazelton 7:20:57 PM
STORMCOCK! fantastic album!
Lizbot (host) 7:22:47 PM
@Alex from Media - I still love Buffy and her incredible voice, and especially that "Illuminations" album. My dad loved her. One of the last TV programs I watched with him was a PBS documentary on Buffy's life a few summers ago. He was pretty out of it, but he responded to the music. Not long after, there was a whole controversy that she might have made up her native american heritage
Lizbot (host) 7:23:25 PM
@Dale Hazelton - I love this album and I fell out of listening to it. Haven't heard any Roy Harper in quite some time.
SV In Like Flynn 7:25:07 PM
Greetings from Aruba Lizbot! Stream working nice. Back to FM stereo next week.
Lizbot (host) 7:25:29 PM
Hi SV In Like Flynn!
Lizbot (host) 7:26:18 PM
@SV In Like Flynn - Good to hear the stream holds up well out in the Caribbean! I hope you're getting nice weather!
SV In Like Flynn 7:27:11 PM
That was a great PBS special on Buffy St Marie! I’ll ignore the other controversy.
Lizbot (host) 7:29:38 PM
@SV In Like Flynn - I love her music, and it always reminds me of my dad, the folky. He really loved her records and had them all. Saw her perform several times. I remember her on Sesame Street!
Amy Lee 7:29:41 PM
Hi Lizbot. Been listening in-between creepin' on the wildlife.
Lizbot (host) 7:30:17 PM
Hi Amy Lee! Say Hello to the wildlife from me!
Lizbot (host) 7:31:25 PM
@SV In Like Flynn - She appeared on Sesame Street before I was born, but the way PBS ran reruns of the show all the time when I was little, I saw it a bunch!
SV In Like Flynn 7:31:35 PM
Aruba consistent weather for centuries, very windy trade winds in a desert like island. Bought a timeshare with ex in 1990. She goes the odd years, I go the even.
Lizbot (host) 7:34:46 PM
@SV In Like Flynn - Ah, I hope it has panned out well! Never been there, but I've been to other parts of the caribbean!
Alex from Media 7:37:20 PM
The World is as Soft as Lace is so pretty, desert island playlist for me.
SV In Like Flynn 7:42:05 PM
My iMac plays PAL DVDs, I remember the PAL problem with USA VCR’s well when looking to buy VHS in London years ago.
Lizbot (host) 7:43:45 PM
@Alex from Media - YEs! I love Felt so much. In my early 20s I made a point of owning every album and single released by Felt. Got a lot of nice pressings shipped from a record store in Scotland. It was a splurge but worth it. This was in the 90s and I didn't see a ton of their records in good condition at fairs at the time.
Lizbot (host) 7:45:18 PM
@Alex from Media - Like a curmudgeon, I put the Felt lyrics "I will be the first person in history to die of boredom" on my dorm door sophomore year. One person in my hall got the reference and we're still in touch to this day!
Lizbot (host) 7:47:42 PM
@SV In Like Flynn - Oh man, I learned my lesson at the expense of a large chunk of my trip spending budget and suitcase space when I went to Madrid for the first time to visit a good friend who had moved there in the late 90s and I found this arthouse video store that was a dream! All these hard-to-find VHS cassettes I had been looking for! I loaded up on them. Got home excited to watch them only to discover they were PAL format, which I had up until that point never heard of!
Ted 7:50:51 PM
I was told that cat’s eyes in Scotland are small reflecting beads embedded in roadways to aid night driving. Picking them out is merely teenage vandalism. But what do I know? Thanks for the Poles!
Lizbot (host) 7:51:11 PM
Hi Ted!
SV In Like Flynn 7:51:32 PM
Broke my heart to pass on Kate Bush PAL VHS. I definitely entertained buying a PAL VHS but I’m glad I didn’t. Just more junk that would be cluttering my attic.
Rob from Maryland 🦀 7:51:35 PM
ty for this great sow, @lizbot! stay cool!
Alex from Media 7:52:30 PM
Thanks Lizbot! Enjoyed both music and story time!
Lizbot (host) 7:52:43 PM
@Ted - Oooh, that is SO good to know on multiple levels! Nice imagery, and not endorsing picking actual cats' eyes out, so now I can include this fun fact next time I play that song! Also, now that you mention it, I think I've seen something similar in roads before, though I've never been to Scotlabd
Ossy 7:53:04 PM
from speaking mosquitos earlier, great time to use uv skincare coolibar or so elbow long gloves...and awesome catemoji smells tonight, liz!
Lizbot (host) 7:53:33 PM
@SV In Like Flynn - I found not one but two Kate Bush sheet music books at a flea market about 10 years ago! Proudly displayed on my piano!
SV In Like Flynn 7:53:34 PM
Hey @Rob, my wife is getting into birding. The food in the bird feeder is moving along well. Lots to learn.
JimmyCarter IsMy Hero 7:54:11 PM
Wow, this is amazing
Lizbot (host) 7:54:24 PM
@SV In Like Flynn - Met a guy last weekend at Bruce Springsteen of all shows who saw my Kate Bush shirt and told me her went to her reunion show in London 15ish years ago! So jealous!
Lizbot (host) 7:54:33 PM
Thanks for hanging, Alex from Media!
Lizbot (host) 7:54:49 PM
Thanks Rob from Maryland 🦀 Stay away from those mosquitos!
Roffleaphonic 7:54:50 PM

Lizbot (host) 7:55:09 PM
Thanks Roffleaphonic!
Dale Hazelton 7:55:24 PM
this must be great in headphones and/or in the studio.
TAndy 7:56:05 PM
Thank you for the show Lizbot! Have a good evening 😄
Lizbot (host) 7:56:34 PM
@Dale Hazelton - haha, I do enjoy these studio headphones!
Lizbot (host) 7:56:44 PM

Dale Hazelton 7:59:01 PM
miussus dale saw orville peck in cabaret on broadway. she said the show was so graphic that it was kind of shocking and embarassing.
Lucy Catemoji 7:59:39 PM
jolly good show!!
Dale Hazelton 7:59:59 PM
...and she isn't a prude.
Lizbot (host) 8:00:00 PM
@Dale Hazelton - oh, I remember seeing ads for when he was in Cabaret. They changed up that cast a lot!
Lizbot (host) 8:00:16 PM
Hi Lucy Catemoji! Thanks!
Ted 8:01:59 PM
Glad to be of scrotal service!
Lizbot (host) 8:02:03 PM
@Dale Hazelton - I almost saw Orville Peck and his many, maaaaany guests at The Met in Philly a couple winters ago, had tickets way in advance, then got the flu and could not see a long country show on a cold winter night!
Lizbot (host) 8:03:30 PM
@Ted - Ha! I NEED to log that factoid in my brain for next time I play them. It also just seems like the kind of shenanigans the members of Scrotum Poles would get up to based on the few goofy fun videos I've seen of them from back in the day!
Lizbot (host) 8:04:37 PM
See you all next time and thanks for tuning in!
