I just googled it, you've opened me up to a whole new world hahaha

I'm only educated about it via Wikipedia, but... Essentially after Yugoslavia broke off from the USSR, they banned all Soviet media and still refused to associate with the US, so they chose Mexico as their choice of foreign entertainment. It was a whole cultural movement focused around old Mexican films and traditional music like Ranchera. And other cultural aspects too.

that is SO cool

I think it's one of the more interesting international connections of the pre-information age, and I think it's awesome.
