Rob from Maryland 🦀 8:22:00 PM
Hello
Tim (host) 8:22:13 PM
Hey Rob From Mary land -
sean burns 8:38:28 PM
Hey Tim always a treat when you're on! Hope you'll be doing a show this summer... You provided a central poolside listening in past Summers
sean burns 8:38:46 PM
Essential not a central boy does AI stuff now I know why nobody likes it
sean burns 8:38:55 PM
This not does
Tim (host) 8:43:17 PM
Hey Sean - yeah I applied for a summer show -- so will hopefully will ahve a slot for the summer
Tim (host) 8:44:00 PM
also just signed paperwork for summer pool acess -- man looknig forward to pool - poolside listening is best
sean burns 8:44:13 PM
That would be great
sean burns 8:44:35 PM
It's nice to have a great soundtrack when you're in a good space
Tim (host) 8:45:06 PM
yeah cant wait for those days to come --
sean burns 8:45:35 PM
Pool lounging isn't just the couch potato thing a lot of people think. When we were having those heat waves I would wait until the temperature would get up to over 100°, 110° heat index, sit out on the back deck gritting my teeth cowering in the shade until I could take it no more and had to plunge in the pool
Tim (host) 8:46:45 PM
yeah thats the rough part when it gets that hot--- but ill stil take that ober winter- man this winter hot me hard- it she shoveling the car out after work in the fold and ice--- yeeeesh no way sucks -0 im a summer guy definitely
sean burns 8:46:55 PM
It was like an endurance test but a fun one
Tim (host) 8:47:14 PM
yeah and once your in the water-- tis all good
sean burns 8:47:42 PM
My buddy lives in Asbury Park and all the spoom that comes in from the beach combines with the snow and it froze his car in so deep it took him 3 days to dig it out
Tim (host) 8:48:02 PM
oof that nasty
sean burns 8:48:03 PM
Spoom not spoom obviously the word Google doesn't recognize spume
Tim (host) 8:48:36 PM
man i checked the stone pony schdule for the summer and it was mostly cover band - what the hel is going on
Tim (host) 8:49:39 PM
from what i remember ocean blue was the only original band - and they are like 35 years ago on old - but good ninteis band - but man that was a bit agao
sean burns 8:50:53 PM
I haven't been there in a while since Southside Johnny on the outside stage and saw Nicole Atkins a few times inside. Oh yeah the reubenous you know who that is...
sean burns 8:51:25 PM
Wprb is so Philadelphia- centric I wonder why sometimes The DJs don't look around the New Jersey area.
Tim (host) 8:51:34 PM
the rubinoos - sure -- i went a summer or two ago - but it wasnt anything good
Tim (host) 8:52:03 PM
i dunno - teh staion is in jersey so--?? i dunno
sean burns 8:52:18 PM
There are shows at White Eagle in Jersey City that are stunning. I saw Roki Anderson there, Robin Hitchcock, Jonathan Richmond which is one of the greatest shows I ever saw
sean burns 8:52:36 PM
2 weeks from now I'm seeing camera obscure there and Robin Hitchcock with a full electric band for the first time in years next month
Tim (host) 8:53:17 PM
oh i imagine johnathan would be good0 white eagle is a bit of. comute for me
sean burns 8:54:19 PM
Yeah Philadelphia centric which I guess is the vibe. Seems most DJs are Philly based, Lisbot etc
sean burns 8:55:12 PM
Jonathan Richmond was so good it was like a spiritual event, asked for nobody to use cameras or record,, we had to be in the moment it was like a religious experience like seeing Brian Wilson
Tim (host) 8:56:17 PM
welp if he ever comes around again ill have to make a note and go see him -- i missed so many friggin shows last summer by not noticing who was coming - black moth super rainbow-- missed and flaming lips - missed BOTH!
sean burns 9:00:20 PM
I was a major flaming lips fan, first saw them in 1984 or so when they were a real shit band played at Rutgers September freshman weekend welcome or something.
Tim (host) 9:00:59 PM
yeah they kinda blossomed - did you ever see thier movie fearless freaks- they came from friggin oklahoma
sean burns 9:01:29 PM
God did they suck horribly we thought it was a joke!
sean burns 9:01:45 PM
I saw the noodling video about catching catfish ing underwater caves
sean burns 9:02:25 PM
But I love their mid-. Stuff clouds taste metallics satellite heart etc, priest-driven ambulance I got to do later and it's fantastic. Yoshimi great, have all the EPS and stuff from that time they were just wonderful.
sean burns 9:02:37 PM
But when I went to see them I was so disappointed
Tim (host) 9:03:09 PM
Did you eer see the falming lips moie fearless freaks -- they were from friggin oklahoma
sean burns 9:03:18 PM
We saw them in Montclair, Wayne was probably on cocaine cuz he never shut up, we did some mushroom bars hoping to have a good experience and it was like flaming lips light
sean burns 9:03:47 PM
Clap along, when he invited people up on stage it was all these high school kids that were like me first me first, the music was secondary to the spectacle he was trying to engender
Tim (host) 9:04:43 PM
man i went to see themand had the oppisite ration -saw them onteh soft bulletin tour and one other tour and it blew my friggin mind best concerts i wver wnet ot one of the best
sean burns 9:06:52 PM
Yes soft bulletin is a masterpiece I wish I had seen them then this was years after that, after yoshimi
sean burns 9:11:06 PM
Wow this is some cohesive yet untim like set very cruel cool you fucking shit
sean burns 9:11:36 PM
Sorry can't edit it
sean burns 9:11:55 PM
I saw the lips in 2013 when their war with the mystics and Terror album or whatever were out, that's when I kind of lost interest in them
Tim (host) 9:18:37 PM
ill have to go see them again - and see what the vibe is --- but last time i saw - was deginaatly one of my best times-- i wore an old world wqar two over coat - to the show and it smellled like 1942 - but was worht it
sean burns 9:26:05 PM
Was 1942 a good smelling year? I don't remember
Tim (host) 9:27:35 PM
well this jacket had that old smell - i dunno but i know when iduck my head in aan old car firn that era it had that same smeell- lol
Tim (host) 9:27:59 PM
the 1942 smell!
sean burns 9:30:34 PM
Hmmm ... Camel cigarettes, aqua velva, perhaps the stench of wartime death?
Tim (host) 9:30:54 PM
thats it!
sean burns 9:31:00 PM
I think that smelling the old cars is because they used to use straw as the cushioning under the seats
sean burns 9:31:24 PM
I was always getting sick when we went for car rides of more than a half hour, my mother used to keep Dramamine in her pocketbook to give to me in the backseat
Tim (host) 9:32:02 PM
could be -- they seem to have a certain smell when i check out the interior of those old cars
sean burns 9:32:29 PM
We found out that they used straw because a friend of mine that had an old Volkswagen, 1965, that we took to the Capitol theater to see the Grateful Dead in 1973 or 4 or so, The lid end of a joint went into the back seat started a fire filled the car with smoke we had to pull over rip the seat out when we pulled the cover off it was filled with straw
Tim (host) 9:32:55 PM
holy crap!
sean burns 9:35:09 PM
Well Google just told me it wasn't straw, it was coconut fibers or actually matted Corsair. How about that we just thought it was straw and it was much more exotic
sean burns 9:35:25 PM
Mmm m... Matted coconut fibers...
sean burns 9:35:48 PM
Horse hair not corshair
Tim (host) 9:36:13 PM
agreed
sean burns 9:36:41 PM
I wonder if that was an option at the time, horse hair or coconut fibers I would assume coconut fibers would cost a little more being they had to be imported
sean burns 9:37:15 PM
Boy those old blues guys were great, I don't like the BB King and newer blues guys
sean burns 9:37:56 PM
I heard a John Lee Hooker cut today either on prb or one of the New York stations, boy he was distorting that guitar and just slamming it for sounds like an avant-garde musician
Tim (host) 9:39:34 PM
hmmm never heard him hit like that
sean burns 9:41:50 PM
I was surprised a little off the tempo I've got to figure out what song it is
sean burns 9:52:27 PM
Looks like the track was probably from his Detroit 1948 through 55 session, it's noted that his producer turned up the volume used feedback to get a raw sound... What I
Tim (host) 9:52:55 PM
cool as a music nerd i need to know so i can track it down -- thanks
sean burns 9:53:59 PM
I could just hear cream coppng this song, an insistent Jack Bruce bass line..m
Tim (host) 9:54:56 PM
yeah i have a few old blues songs that led zepp copped without rediting the originals blues guys - i think they did credit them later when the got called on it
sean burns 9:55:30 PM
Supposedly feedback wasn't used on a recording until the Beatles did it with I feel fine
sean burns 9:55:46 PM
History must always be rewritten
Tim (host) 9:56:25 PM
yeah - i man atleast give credit where its do -- i mean they friggin rippee this right off -
sean burns 9:57:04 PM
My feelings on cream are very conflicted. I love Jack Bruce! When I was a kid in 1968 or so, the older guys had buttons that said Clapton is God. I assumed everything I was hearing was Eric Clapton when it was Jack Bruce singing and writing most of the original songs while Eric Clapton just ripped off a lot of old black guys for his blues copies
sean burns 9:57:59 PM
And cream could jam and cook until they hit a certain level and then shut it off, where I found bands like the Grateful Dead and Miles Davis could hit that level and take it miles Beyond
Tim (host) 9:59:00 PM
yeah - i really like cream - but there jams neer worked for me - i wanted to like them -- but like the side long spoonful couldnt hold my attenion -- gotta have more gooing om then jsut jamming mix it up er someithing
Tim (host) 9:59:46 PM
some o it worked - but spoone ful jam just needed more to it some tempo changes er something if your hnna do twney minutes
sean burns 10:06:13 PM
Yeah spoonful is too damn slow, I'm not a fan of really slow blues songs original or copies. at least crosswords kicks ass
sean burns 10:06:53 PM
I still think Jack Bruce is way overlooked he wrote their best stuff, sang just about all of it, and when you say cream people think of Eric Clapton and that crazy drummer
sean burns 10:07:47 PM
I was a big fan of mountain also, mainly for Felix papillardi's influence.
Tim (host) 10:07:57 PM
yeah - he had the stuff definatly could play - but they all kinda hated each other at the end
sean burns 10:08:20 PM
Are there any other people around in the chat, I hope I'm not intimidating them with my constant blathering
Tim (host) 10:08:33 PM
oh yeah mountainhad some good stuff - but cream was cooler and more imaginiteve - i thought like the inside of wheels of fire - cover
sean burns 10:08:48 PM
They pretty much hated each other from the beginning. Ginger Baker never liked anybody, and Clapton was jealous of Jack Bruce from step one
Tim (host) 10:08:51 PM
beats me no biggie that is what the chat is for feel freee to chat away
Tim (host) 10:09:10 PM
yeah ginger was notorious
sean burns 10:09:23 PM
There's a great special on Ginger Baker, what a misanthrope
Tim (host) 10:09:48 PM
yeah a guy made a documentary and ginger punched the guy in the nose
sean burns 10:10:21 PM
One of our local Urban hippie Legends when we were little kids listening to our older brothers was Ginger Baker used speed to be able to drum that good, and that's why he was so skinny and his face was so hollow
Tim (host) 10:10:40 PM
i wouldnt be surprised
Tim (host) 10:10:51 PM
he was one wild lookin dude back then
sean burns 10:11:05 PM
Punched in the nose! That's always funny, happens a billion times in the old comic strips but once I got punched in the nose yow didn't like it
sean burns 10:11:22 PM
I think he lost his teeth at 23
sean burns 10:11:30 PM
Most of his hair at 27
sean burns 10:11:45 PM
So when you're 28 years old and you got shitty teeth and no hair you kind of develop a pissed off attitude
Tim (host) 10:13:25 PM
yeah that woukld make sense
sean burns 10:17:37 PM
We didn't know the Polk salad Annie guy would be this heavy
Tim (host) 10:18:12 PM
