Two years after this recording I attended CSO’s free memorial concert for Sir George, wonderful and well deserved of course.

That's such a treat – Sir George, Chicago legend.

Solti to Mahler seems Barenboim to Beethoven, Mozart. As far as legendary recordings.

That sounds right. His ability to draw out those intense, smooth, dramatic dynamic shifts that you'd need for the late Romantics...

I have photographed a mere fraction of all the ever-changing incredible painted murals, most with musical themes obviously, in Memphis. I’m due to return there.

Need to get down there soon, and Cozy Corner will be on the itinerary. Haven't been to Memphis since I was a boy

Also home of legendary photographer, musician William Eggleston. A real character, hero of mine.

He shot a Big Star LP cover. The red one.

And Dan, thanks for sharing, I had NO idea that Eggleston (1) did the red Big Star cover and (2) is from Memphis. But it makes sense that his eye for the arrestingly desolate look of gas stations, drive throughs, foreclosed shops, etc. would've been formed in the South

As far as his music goes I really enjoy his sneaky good piano cover of Ol Man River

Yes, those grainy b&w home movies of him are amazing. On YouTube besides!

Musically, visually gifted, like Don von Vliet in a way.
