Good morning! How did it go yesterday?

I had a nice time hanging out with birding buddies, but, sadly, did not see the Clapper Rail. It became visible again around 5 pm but we could not get over there :-(

Thx! After lunch we went on a trip to a large field area undergoing development and did see some field birds including an amazingly close Grasshopper Sparrow https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Grasshopper_Sparrow/overview

Yup! Makes them even harder to locate

Is there a way you can tell what might be out there on any given day?

I could stand in one place for a few minutes and just listen. Or walk slowly. There is an app called Merlin that can monitor bird sounds in real time and provide an identifications, but it is not 100% reliable

I've been actively birding since middle school, so I am up on mid-Atlantic bird sounds.

Oh wow! Is there anything in the region that you have a particular connection to?

There are several areas I visit regularly that I feel I have a connection to. As for birds, I love Carolina Wrens (loud and shy), and I love watching the robins in my neighborhood

I've thought about getting a flip phone again. I waste too much time on my smartphone nowadays
