| Mohammad Omar Rubab Solo Music of Afghanistan V/A Smithsonian Folkways Recordings/Folkways Records 1961 Music issued on this record was recorded by Kabul Radio. Mohammed Omar lived from 1905 to 1980. The Rubab is of central Asian origin. The body is carved out of a single piece of wood, with a head covering a hollow bowl covered by skin which provides the sound-chamber. The bridge sits on the skin and is held in position by the tension of the gut strings. The Rubab is considered the ancestor of the Sarod. |

| Tarun Kalita Jhinjhoti raagALAP Bihaan Music 2008 Tarun Kalita was born in 1961 at Duramari village in Chaygaon, Assam. Initially he did not pursue music at all. Starting in 1987, while working at the State Bank of India, he would travel to Kolkata for sarod lessons with Buddhadev DasGupta.

| Sawai Gandharva Asavari - Preet Na Kije Great Maestros His Master's Voice 2002 Ramchandra Kundgolkar Saunshi, popularly known as Sawai Gandharva, was born in 1886 in Kundgol, not far from Dharwad, Karnataka. He was one of the foremost disciples of Abdul Karim Khan of the Kirana gharana. Sawai Gandharva taught famous vocalists including Gangubai Hangal, Bhimsen Joshi and Firoz Dastur. He died in 1952, age 66. This recording was digitized from an old 78 rpm disc. |
