I just learned the electronic meaning of Jacob’s Ladder, fascinating.

I saw him play fully stripped down set at Woodsist Festival a couple years. Really great, commanding.

Would love to see him live sometime

Tagging in late to say how much I love that Neubauten song. I'm pretty sure that's the record that (former WPRB DJ Brian Farmer) tagged as "German R&B" on PRB's library copy.

It's really crazy to me that a band that go its start smashing concrete could evolve to make something so sublime. I suppose it's not that different an arc than Bill Orcutt's, now that I think about it

I think "Religious Vomit" by DKs was the first proper hardcore song I ever heard. I played it for a few kids in my (Catholic school) homeroom, and they all ended up in jail. I see no connection whatsoever between these two events. (Exits room, whistling.)

I subbed K-5 music this week, taught Bach, Beethoven…with Mad Libs about both. No, not one mention of Bach’s organ.

Saw David Allen Coe at Sellersville Theater about 10 yrs ago (ticket was a gift). He had a bright shiny copper/ gold wig that must have been 6 feet long. Strange show. Some good songs. Had his teen kid in the small backing band on lead gtr. Good picker. But they had to stand there w their instruments in hand like statues for 30 mins from the start as David played solo songs for a while. David played an electric Dimebag Darrell pointy metal guitar (but strummed lightly). Strange yep.

@Dan Cochrane - oh wow! I never heard that story, but for Kubrick to have made large last-minute cuts like that, he must’ve really cared about Arthur C Clarke’s reaction because a lot of directors wouldn’t bend to the author wishes like that!

@Dan Ruccia - I took a couple photos of US Maple and Cheer Accident playing in my friend’s basement in West Philly circa 2005 or so! Jeff Liebersher from C-A got them to wear creepy masks!

Omg, Shane Parish! Okay, is this a set of artists who played The AGL in the mid-2000s?! I love Shane! Missed him at Big Ears this year

Seeing US Maple in a basement must have been a trip! I saw them at the Khyber in 2004 or so with some hip Philly band opening for them. Most of the crowd promptly left after said band which left like 20 of us to get our ears properly retuned. Something similar happened around that same time with Sun City Girls

@Dan Ruccia - ha! I can picture that! US Maple, Cheer-Accident, Ahleuchatistas, Mary Halvorson, Upsilon Acrux, Uz Jsme Doma all played that house on Ludlow in West Philly, the Avant Gentleman’s Lodge! Great times!

Also Nels cline and Nornal Love, and Satanized, which briefly included teenaged Natalie Mering, AKA Weyes Blood! Sadly that space got conquered by complaining neighbor business who was actually a dance nonprofit that wasn’t open at night. But these show spaces can be fleeting!
