@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - Not too shabby in the studio today! Its gorgeous in Princeton today, and the sun just came out after a couple very rainy days! Just toastier in the studio than outside, but definitely livable today! We had that crazy heatwave two weeks ago during which Readie & I roasted!

@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - I see by the photos the ovenbird frequents Massachusetts - Just spent a week in Northampton and Boston back in late March and weirdly saw almost no birds. It was eerie, especially in Western Mass!

@Lizbot, that is a bit eerie. We've been there in mid March and saw a Peregrine Falcon attack a Common Raven (or vice versa) over a reservoir. So there can be birds there

@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - Sounds bloody! Reminds me of how I watched a grisly scene of an osprey ripping apart a seagull on the end of dock while I was just relaxing watching the Barnegat Bay a couple summers ago!

@Number 6 - Yes! Outdoor noise sure was loud last week, but today most people left for the day, so it's fairly calm so far!

@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - Yeah, i was in Northampton the summer of 2021 and there were birds. I was in a more green area with more parks nearby this time and saw no birds! So odd

@Lizbot, the raven/falcon thing wasn't bloody. They were just harassing each other (so actually not attacking)

We were in Amherst twice in May and the migrating birds (and emerging mayflies) were really nice

Hi all! @Rob we had an ovenbird in the library yesterday!

@SV In Like Flynn - I got a front-row seat to a lot of osprey comings and goings in the summer at the place I stay in LBI because its on the bayside, right next to an osprey nesting box. When a my father-in-law comes by, he cuts the engine and we sidle up to a closer vantage point to see the babies once they've hatched!

@Lizbot I was so burnt out I stayed home actually. Seems like they had a great turnout though, a vendor I know had their best event ever!

@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - I don't know but they're tiny and they dip rapidly and skim the surface of a nearby pool over and over, I guess drinking it

@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - When Hattie was little, we rented a little cabin in the very remote Little Gasparilla Island in Florida - a roadless, store-less tiny place with old cabins - and I have never seen so many varieties of herons in my life, including massive great grey herons...maybe one was a goliath heron? I'll have to find my photos!

@Rob my colleague captured the lil fella before he could browse the stacks.

@Lizbot, could those skimming birds be Chimney Swifts?

@Lizbot, those herons were surely all Great Blue Heron; Goliath Heron is only found in African and Asia

@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - You're probably right! I see chimney swifts dipping around over the tower of a nearby elementary school in Philly, but I'm not used to seeing them up close!

@addie, maybe when the Ovenbird gets a library card it can browse the stacks?

@Lizbot, it was odd the first time or two I saw Chimney Swifts skimming the pond in a local park. I love watching them do that

I was a live club DJ with a recurring DJ night called "Girl Gone Feral" at Silk City in the early 2000s Philly when Gregg DJ'd his recurring night, The Turnaround. So many memories of nights spent with him spinning, running into friends and even my cousins. He was a big part of that late 90s/early 2000s 60s soul revival

@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - I'm glad you enjoyed The Color and The Kids. I love that song but I can rarely play it because it always gets to me! It's so intense and beautiful. i remember walking to the train and walking aimlessly around my neighborhood listening to that Moon Pix album when it first came out and that song was my favorite

Just got home in Medford from Surfing in Holgate. Walked in and saw our 1st Red Headed Woodpecker. Such striking contrast with the black white and red!

@Roy Cole - Re: Holgate - The closest I've gotten to LBI so far this year is the Pine Barrens a couple weeks ago, Went to Whitesbog Village and walked the dog along the bogs there. Near the end of the walk, i think i heard a woodpecker. Saw one in the Wissahickon recently too!

An incredible place. My wife n I collect slag glass in the pine barrons! Such a dynamic place to discover all kinds of natural beauty.

There is a great band in philly called Pine Barons. They are amazing. Check them out. Frantic Francis would be a good place to start!

@Roy Cole - The Pine Barons is a great name! Never encountered it before! My old boss was in a Philly band called The Strapping Fieldhands and that had a song called "In the Pineys" that I'm fond of

Blue Red & Grey was on my Morning Run Warmup playlist for a while "it's 5AM somewhere"

I discovered a band called BurntMill Ghosts from "Central Jersey"

I run by Burnt Mill Road, where the Atco Ghost "resides"

@Roy Cole - If you haven't already seen it, you might enjoy the documentary "The Pine Barrens" by David Scott Kessler. I saw an early screening of it outside at dusk at Whitesbog's Village's stage with the Ruins of Friendship Orchestra playing a live score! Magical night! That was ages ago. My friend and Pineys conservationist Allen Crawford, (who has designed logos before for WPRB!,) is the narrator and main "character" so to speak

Albert hall in Waretown is a must. So many wonderful musicians with tons of Pine Barrons history.

@Roy Cole - Oh wow, I gotta check that place out! My parents used to take me to the Batsto summer music festivals when I was a kid, and my mom & I would hit up the annual Cranberry Festival, which is the first place I remember ever encountering dulcimer music...and tart cranberry ice cream!

@Randy Marthins - Ah! Having grown up going to OCNJ, I was always vaguely annoyed by the existence of a SECOND Ocean City, even though that's of course silly and it's pretty much the most generic shore town name one could come up with! I get the impression OCMD is larger but maybe not older

Just so happened to be driving last week and heard Long Red Light on WPRB and had a hunch it was Sparks! Loved it in a Phillip Glass kind of way! Gonna have to seek out the extended version.

@SV In Like Flynn - Yes, I love when Sparks does that slow layering build! Long Red Light is from Mad!, the most recent album, but they especially do the slow build repetition Philip Glass style songs on the Lil Beethoven album from 2002. I love My Baby's Taking Me Home from that album

But I assume it's like how Philadelphians sweat NYC while New Yorkers rarely give a thought to Philadelphia...although that's been changing in recent years as we're getting flooded with former New Yorkers looking for more affordable alternatives!

I interviewed him at his Philadelphia show backstage when he was touring for that album, and he INSISTED Grace Kelly was not from Philly. That could not stand! I had to correct him! Philly blood runs deep!

It's lacking that crunchy grass-roots vibe and it isn't as cozy anymore. I used to go to Bars Through Bars fundraisers there. Would've been so cool to meet Grace!
