Hello Hello!
Mr. Mont 5:01:57 PM
Hello!
Richard Mitnick 5:02:45 PM
I have been clicked in all day. Happy to have you in my digiteria. I hope you have a great show.
Lizbot (host) 5:03:38 PM
Hi Mr. Mont!
Lizbot (host) 5:05:01 PM
Hi Richard Mitnick!
Lizbot (host) 5:05:46 PM
@Richard Mitnick - THank you! Happy to have you here. It will be fairly upbeat music today to counteract the drab weather!
Mr. Mont 5:06:06 PM
Fending off the freaky snowy phenomenon with some funk!
Lizbot (host) 5:07:23 PM
@Mr. Mont - This "wintry mix" evidentaly has the precise amount of stickiness to jam my car's radar sensors and make it beep at me all the way to the station
Mr. Mont 5:09:23 PM
@Lizbot Ugh! That's a freaky physics phenomenon. Not fun.
Rob from Maryland 5:13:05 PM
The snow stopped about 3 hours ago near DC and now the sun is out in full force
Mr. Mont 5:13:15 PM
Unrelentingly upbeat so far! Unmitigated, unapologetically so.
Rob from Maryland 5:13:31 PM
Bummer to hear about your car radar sensor, Lizbot
Rob from Maryland 5:13:39 PM
And hi everyone
Lizbot (host) 5:14:14 PM
Hi Rob from Maryland!
Mr. Mont 5:14:45 PM
Hey Rob. SE PA here. Still gray & rainy here, but at least the snow stopped.
Mr. Mont 5:15:38 PM
This music makes me feel like I have the happy helmet on. Any Ren & Stimpy fans out there?
Lizbot (host) 5:16:21 PM
@Mr. Mont - Yes! I am keeping it upbeat to combat the rains/snows but to be fair, I put together the music for today's show yesterday in the sun of that brief "False Spring"!
Lizbot (host) 5:16:42 PM
@Rob from Maryland - Cars are too "smart" now! Drives me nuts!
Rob from Maryland 5:16:54 PM
@Mr. Mont, hopefully the sun will come out soon for you? It took a while for the sun to shine after the snow stop
Lizbot (host) 5:17:39 PM
@Rob from Maryland - Glad to hear you're getting sun! It looks like we're getting that sun on Saturday, and then back to more rain, but hey, it's March!
Mr. Mont 5:17:54 PM
March in the MidAtlantic, man! Never know what's next.
Rob from Maryland 5:18:04 PM
@Lizbot, I have a 2007 Civic, so it's not smart at all. I would hate these current smart cars.
Rob from Maryland 5:18:15 PM
@Mr. Mont, so so true!!
John Coffey 5:18:16 PM
Hi Rob MD! I have 2 woodpeckers jamming on a huge 100 year old locust in my yard. Can I expect them to be my neighbors for a while?
Rob from Maryland 5:18:29 PM
@Lizbot, hoping you'll have sun too
Mr. Mont 5:18:58 PM
I just bought a 2019 Nissan Frontier. Hand-crank windows. Not even a door remote. Love it.
Lizbot (host) 5:19:11 PM
@Mr. Mont - When Ren & Stimpy first aired, I was under its spell. I never thought about it before, but you're right that this Les Rita Mitsouko track does kinda have a Ren & Stimpy music vibe!
Lizbot (host) 5:19:19 PM
Hi John Coffey!
Rob from Maryland 5:19:20 PM
@John, hi! What are the woodpeckers jamming to? Snowpop? Rain gaze? WPRB?
Rob from Maryland 5:19:53 PM
@Mr. Mont, I miss hand-cranked windows!
Lizbot (host) 5:20:12 PM
@John Coffey - I bet that locust is chock full of delicious grubs!
Mr. Mont 5:20:36 PM
Although, leaning over to roll down the passenger window while driving can be tricky...
Rob from Maryland 5:20:54 PM
@John Coffey, seriously, they could be there for a while. I bet that hundred-year-old locust is full of bugs
Lizbot (host) 5:21:32 PM
@Mr. Mont - I loved my last car. I could plug old various audio devices into it, it still had a CD player for my mix CDs, and I trusted it far more! I held onto it until it was beyond repairs!
Rob from Maryland 5:21:57 PM
@Mr. Mont, I remember leaning over to roll down the passenger window. My last car that had cranky window was just a little to wide to safely roll down the passenger window while driving
John Coffey 5:22:45 PM
Rob MD Lizbot, I'll be sure to blast Double Plus when the weather is nicer they're slightly above my 3rd floor and only about 30 yards away. We have binoculars too.
Lizbot (host) 5:23:33 PM
@Mr. Mont - Oh yeah, i do not miss the handcrank windows! Probably safer in emergencies where the car's electrical system goes down, though!
Rob from Maryland 5:24:27 PM
Double Plus is the best for observing woodpeckers, I hear
John Coffey 5:24:27 PM
Rob MD, high winds take down the upper older branches, any yes, look very buggy.
Lizbot (host) 5:25:24 PM
@John Coffey - Most of the woodpeckers in my area seem to prefer hanging in the Wissahickon. I hear them often when taking walks there. Haven't had one in my yard in a long time
Rob from Maryland 5:25:51 PM
Just so long as they don't jam on your metal gutters. We have a flicker in his second season of doing that. It's annoying as all get out and we open then slam shut doors and windows to persuade it to stop
Danosaur🦖 5:27:06 PM
Hello Lizbot and fellow chatters!
Lizbot (host) 5:27:47 PM
@Rob from Maryland - Doubleplusgood makes woodpeckers peck twice as fast today with the frenetic jams!
Lizbot (host) 5:27:53 PM
Hi Danosaur🦖!
Danosaur🦖 5:30:17 PM
Did have a woodpecker that was pecking on a utility pole in my neighborhood but I haven't seen it in a while. Maybe it moved to New Jersey
John Coffey 5:30:50 PM
Lizbot, I'm building up my biking endurance to bike from Clark Park to Devils Pool and eventually Chestnut Hill via Forbidden Drive. Envious on the homes above the park in Wissahickon.
Lizbot (host) 5:31:01 PM
@Rob from Maryland / @John Coffey - I have yet to see the pair of rock doves return who always nest in the bush directly next to my car and then flutter off in protest to the tree on the other side of the driveway every time I open the door!
Lizbot (host) 5:32:09 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - A bee hitched a ride to Jersey from Philly on my car this Monday. I thought it had flown off when I opened the driver's side, but it was hunkered down in the exact same spot 45 minutes later, i guess very far from its hive1
Van Kapeghian 5:32:57 PM
Howdy Lizbot and gang
Lizbot (host) 5:33:01 PM
@John Coffey - I love walking around there! Every summer I see a few intrepid teens dive into Devil's Pool, but I don't recommend it!
Lizbot (host) 5:33:13 PM
Hi Van Kapeghian!
Van Kapeghian 5:35:51 PM
still snowing down here in the Pine Barrens
Danosaur🦖 5:37:10 PM
They're predicting a heat wave here in LA with temps possibly 30 degrees above normal for the next week. Might get up to 100 degrees
Randy Marthins 5:37:15 PM
Half to 3/4" of sticky, wet snow here on the south edge of the Pine Barrens, yes
0x7EA Roffle 5:37:54 PM
Whatever is hitting the windows still sounds shloppy.
0x7EA Roffle 5:38:04 PM
Hi
Lizbot (host) 5:40:15 PM
Hi Randy Marthins!
Lizbot (host) 5:40:24 PM
Hi 0x7EA Roffle!
Lizbot (host) 5:40:44 PM
@Van Kapeghian - Snow in the Pineys sounds both pretty and muddy!
Van Kapeghian 5:41:56 PM
@Lizbot - oh yes, cleaning the kitchen floor from my pair of pups running back to their spots on the couch
Randy Marthins 5:42:23 PM
This sounds very Sweeney Todd
Lizbot (host) 5:42:25 PM
@Randy Marthins - I probably won't be in the Pineys again until June or July, when I hopefully make it to LBI with a pit-stop at Evergreen Dairy Bar!
Lizbot (host) 5:43:54 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - Yikes! Yeah, that's too hot for March! I am touring colleges with the kid next week during her Spring Break (consequently I won't be here,) and we almost planned to see some schools out west, but are focusing on New England this trip. Glad I won't be in L.A. during that weather!
Lizbot (host) 5:44:53 PM
@Randy Marthins - I think that's not a coincidence. Godley & Creme liked making these concept albums that are like mini-rock-operas
Lizbot (host) 5:46:00 PM
@Van Kapeghian - ooof! Yeah, I have a large WHITE and very fluffy Samoyed! The mud is out of control on our floor right now, and has been for much of this big thaw!
Randy Marthins 5:46:15 PM
When I was a kid, I decided one morning to ride my bike from Haddonfield to the shore, down rt 70; I bonked somewhere around red lion and had someone come pick me up at evergreen - not *entirely* in shame, as she was amazed that I'd gotten that far
Lizbot (host) 5:46:41 PM
@0x7EA Roffle - "shloppy" is how'd I'd decribe the sound of the wet flakes hitting my car's roof on the way here!
John Coffey 5:46:48 PM
Nice treat to hear Punchbag. At one time Godley/Creme were my fave recording artists.
0x7EA Roffle 5:48:20 PM
Yes, that would be extra shloppy indeed.
Danosaur🦖 5:48:25 PM
That Stereo Total song was fun. Had me shakin' my bootie
Danosaur🦖 5:49:04 PM
Nice synth sound in this one
Lizbot (host) 5:49:22 PM
@John Coffey - I love their song "Golden Boy" in its various remixes. Nice to revisit their goofy concept albums too!
Lizbot (host) 5:50:10 PM
@Randy Marthins - haha, that's still impressive! I used to go on crazy-long bike rides and walks as a teen. I got horribly lost in the Pineys once though!
Danosaur🦖 5:50:33 PM
Reminds me of the Thomas Dolby/Thompson Twins era of music
Lizbot (host) 5:51:51 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - I love Stereo Total so much. Saw them live the few times they came to Philly, usually to North Star Bar. They were criminally-underappreciated/under-known. Sadly gone now after the passing of co-founder Francoise Cactus
Lizbot (host) 5:53:38 PM
@Randy Marthins - Trying to ride a bike all the way down the shore sounds like something I would've tried when I was 16 and would go biking around for hours. I think the pull of Evergreen would have gotten me that far, maybe not farther!
Danosaur🦖 5:54:34 PM
@Randy Marthins - I'm a cyclist so I can relate
Lizbot (host) 5:56:16 PM
@Randy Marthins / @Danosaur🦖 - I got everywhere by bike around South Jersey or PATCO to Philly because I wasn't a teen with a car, (though I did have a license, and the first place I ever drove my parents' station wagon was straight to LBI on my 17th birthday!)
Danosaur🦖 5:57:21 PM
@Lizbot - When I was a kid in Michigan I used to ride my bike everywhere
Danosaur🦖 5:57:56 PM
Being a kid with a bike made me feel really free
Lizbot (host) 5:58:23 PM
I also used to just take my very energetic labrador on super-long walks where I'd pick a direction and then just keep walking for hours, sometimes having to pivot if i hit a highway. I managed to tired the lab pup out that way, but i got very lost more than once.
George Korein 6:00:15 PM
This has bounce!
Lizbot (host) 6:00:18 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - I loved my bike. Riding to the store to buy our own snacks made my best friend and I feel very grown up when we were in 5th grade.
Lizbot (host) 6:00:22 PM
Hi George Korein!
Lizbot (host) 6:00:55 PM
@George Korein - A bouncy & upbeat show today!
Danosaur🦖 6:02:40 PM
@Lizbot - I used to love walking to our local library in the summer. I'd walk through fields and apple orchards petting cats I would meet along the way.
Lizbot (host) 6:03:00 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - My daughter went to camp in Michigan for a couple of summers and got marooned in Traverse City for a couple extra days when her flight from that tiny airport back to Philly got canceled. She actually had SO much fun because her friend was stuck there too and they were two teens on the town in Traverse City for a couple days, hitting up the thrift stores and going to the lake. My in-laws were marooned there with her and let her just hang around and explore with her friend.
Lizbot (host) 6:03:20 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - She still brings up how beautiful she found Michigan!
Danosaur🦖 6:04:36 PM
@Lizbot - My best friend's aunt had a cabin on the lake in Petosky near Traverse City and we would go up there in the summer. So fun
Lizbot (host) 6:05:34 PM
@Danosaur🦖- Sound idyllic! I drove from Philly to Traverse City the first summer she attended that camp, dropped her off, then drove to the Mackinac Ferry and spent a fews days on Mackinac Island, dodging horse manure and fudge samples!
Randy Marthins 6:07:11 PM
My mom's family came from Michigan; Go Blue!!! (Sorry Princeton folks)
Danosaur🦖 6:07:57 PM
@Lizbot - Sounds like you had the whole Michigan experience. Love that fudge. I hope you had a pasty and some Vernors ginger ale with Better Made chips.
Dennis Fangg 6:08:33 PM
Yo yo yo! Great show so far! French is sounding good, Liz!
Danosaur🦖 6:09:17 PM
Ah, Flash animation. The early days of the Internet. It was so young and innocent then
Lizbot (host) 6:10:31 PM
Hi Dennis Lingg!
Randy Marthins 6:10:31 PM
Nose Pilot!!!
Lizbot (host) 6:11:53 PM
@Dennis Lingg - Thanks! Lily is my only daily French-speaking conversation! I think I have probably worn out my new French brother-in-law's nerves asking him to help me with French pronunciation, but he is a good sport about it and taught me some slang that I immediately forgot!
Randy Marthins 6:12:14 PM
https://youtu.be/HDCaHCBX-Gw?si=3pedtUJY21geBwVI
Danosaur🦖 6:13:22 PM
That last song had a bit of a Sparks feel to it
Amy Lee 6:13:45 PM
Def have to check out more of Family Fodder.
Dennis Fangg 6:13:58 PM
I’m hopeless with French pronunciation, but I once wrote a 20 page comic in French with help from Haitian friend at work.
Lizbot (host) 6:14:44 PM
@Randy Marthins - I had never been to Michigan before that roadtrip, but my mother-in-law went to college there and talked up Mackinac. It was a bit too touristy on the main drag, but I liked walking up in the middle woodsy section of the island. Too many horses for this non-horse-girl, though1
Lizbot (host) 6:14:52 PM
Hi Amy Lee!
Lizbot (host) 6:15:09 PM
@Amy Lee - Yes, definitely! Family Fodder is great!
Lizbot (host) 6:16:08 PM
@Dennis Fangg - ooooh, I want to see that comic! Did it feature a loup/wolf??
Lizbot (host) 6:16:53 PM
@Dennis Fangg - My pronunciation is a lot better than it was, but i know it needs a lot of work! The slightest vowel sound change changes the word meaning so drastically in French!
Lizbot (host) 6:17:37 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - "Sparks feel" is what I'm always chasing in music, so that's not a coincidence!
0x7EA Roffle 6:19:21 PM
And you do it with an infectious glee. :)
Danosaur🦖 6:19:34 PM
This song makes me feel like I'm in a Latin nightclub. Maybe Cuba in the fifties
Lizbot (host) 6:20:38 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - I passed many a pasty stand, but never tried one! I will have to return to Michigan to rectify that! I DID, however, try the mysterious Blue Moon flavor ice cream in Ann Arbor! I've heard it's beaver musk-flavored! Tastes like Lucky Charms to me
Richard of Rocky Hill 6:20:59 PM
I loved "Estaba escrito" ~ Monna Bell's cool vocals floating in front of hot blasts of horn brass.
Dennis Fangg 6:21:16 PM
@liz features a spy and an evil guy named Le Vent and an amphicar. Mary is dancing by the way.
Lizbot (host) 6:21:36 PM
Hi Richard of Rocky Hill!
Lizbot (host) 6:22:11 PM
@Richard of Rocky Hill - Glad you enjoyed Monna Bell! I first encountered her music in a Pedro Almodovar movie!
Richard of Rocky Hill 6:22:26 PM
Hi Laizbot! Another fab show, thanks
Danosaur🦖 6:22:41 PM
@Lizbot - I never realized Blue Moon was a local flavor but I guess I never had it anywhere else. It was one of my favorites as a kid.
Danosaur🦖 6:23:47 PM
@Lizbot - I think Rock and Rye soda is a local flavor too since it's Faygo and I've never seen it anywhere else
Lizbot (host) 6:23:58 PM
@Dennis Fangg - Sounds like an excellent comic and made me think of eurospy comedies like Danger Diabolik or maybe brit-spy Modesty Blaise type stuff. Did you or Mary ever see Danger Diabolik?! It's SO fun and has score by Morricone! 60s though
Randy Marthins 6:24:02 PM
I wanna surf Lake Michigan
Lizbot (host) 6:24:07 PM
Thanks, Richard of Rocky Hill!
Danosaur🦖 6:25:27 PM
@Lizbot - Modesty Blaise is amazing. Loved those illustrations
Lizbot (host) 6:25:54 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - I think Monna Bell likely toured around there in the 50s, not Cuba per se, though! She was born in Chile and lived in Mexico
Lizbot (host) 6:26:12 PM
@Dennis Fangg - Glad to hear Mary is dancing!
Lizbot (host) 6:26:41 PM
@Randy Marthins - Surfing Lake Michigan sounds fun but COLD. The lake water in Michigan in late July was FRIGID
Dennis Fangg 6:26:44 PM
Danger Diabolik looks awesome!
Danosaur🦖 6:26:52 PM
Loving these good, dance-y vibes this afternoon
Randy Marthins 6:27:22 PM
@lizbot - Yeah, there IS that
Lizbot (host) 6:27:36 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - Glad you're digging it...and NOW the sun is finally coming out in Princeton!
Lizbot (host) 6:27:50 PM
Here comes the Princeton sun, just half hour before it sets!
Danosaur🦖 6:28:13 PM
@Lizbot - That's good. Sending sunny vibes your way
Randy Marthins 6:28:22 PM
Same down here! Clouds are breaking ip
Randy Marthins 6:28:31 PM
*up
0x7EA Roffle 6:29:06 PM
Clouds are breaking over Philly a bit too. Good stuff.
Lizbot (host) 6:29:30 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - I'd never heard of blue moon flavor until I went to Michigan! I was intrigued! Never tried rock & rye, but had heard of Faygo sodas because Insane Clown Posse's juggalos made Faygo known the world-around, whether I wanted to know about ICP and juggalo culture or not!
Amy Lee 6:29:45 PM
I keep a french dictionary in my truck (w/roll down windows) that I peruse when I have time to wait for..whatever.
Lizbot (host) 6:30:25 PM
@0x7EA Roffle - Thanks for the infectious glee remark! I missed that earlier!
Lizbot (host) 6:31:21 PM
@Amy Lee - That's not a bad idea. I definitely want more practice speaking French. Guess I'll have to return to France!
Lizbot (host) 6:32:17 PM
@0x7EA Roffle - Good! I think my drive home will be significantly less stressful than my drive to the studio today!
0x7EA Roffle 6:33:24 PM
Yea, snowy windshields are a trigger for sure.
Lizbot (host) 6:33:24 PM
@Dennis Lingg - You guys would LOVE Danger Diabolik! I have a bootleg of the soundtrack I got from a woman who worked at 16th & Locust TLA in the 90s. LOVE the track "Deep Deep Down" from that film! Such a fun goofy eurospy movie!
Lizbot (host) 6:33:58 PM
@0x7EA Roffle - I need my windshield wipers to be about three times stronger and faster than they are!
0x7EA Roffle 6:34:31 PM
Did you buy the car in SoCal?
Lizbot (host) 6:35:25 PM
@0x7EA Roffle - Nope, my car just has a SoCal mentality and thinks it's Armageddon at the slightest bit of rain or snow!
Dennis Fangg 6:35:33 PM
I love Moon Hooch, I miss TLA. A friend of mine that worked there now runs a bookstore in Jim Thorpe.
0x7EA Roffle 6:37:13 PM
@Dennis, you ought to put in a Shirt section. :)
Lizbot (host) 6:37:26 PM
@Dennis Fangg - I do think I maybe should have chosen to take French in school growing up so the pronunciation wasn't so foreign to me. I read it is easier to pick up Spanish later as an adult than to pick up French. Never took Italian, but one bonus of taking a lot of Spanish and then having to use it as an adult is that it made me understand some Italian
Lizbot (host) 6:39:09 PM
@Dennis Fangg - Oh I met your friend! I went to that bookstore a couple of time while in Jim Thorpe for a weekend here and there for Mahoning Drive-In screenings! You went to Tyler with him?
Randy Marthins 6:40:58 PM
We lived upstairs and one door down from where the "new" iskabibbles is
Lizbot (host) 6:41:11 PM
@Randy Marthins - Ah, my husband grew up in Center City in various rental places, but both from the first 12 or so years of his life were little side streets just off South Street. One was on Darien
Randy Marthins 6:41:35 PM
The one on the corner, NOT the original in the middle of the block
Lizbot (host) 6:41:45 PM
@Randy Marthins - I can still see that Ishkabibbles font in my head!
Randy Marthins 6:42:14 PM
Yes, technically it was Randolph street, believe it or not
Randy Marthins 6:42:29 PM
And zipperheads ants
Randy Marthins 6:42:50 PM
Crash bang boom is just as good
Lizbot (host) 6:48:39 PM
@Dennis Fangg - I LOVED the TLA. I lived just a couple blocks from the 16th & Locust original location for most of my 20s and was there all the time. When I went to Bryn Mawr, there was a TLA location there that was featured in the lesbian underground classic The Watermelon Woman, as was the campus, the first year I lived there
Danosaur🦖 6:49:00 PM
Ooh, yeah! Haven't heard this song in a while. Devil Mooooooooon!
Danosaur🦖 6:49:15 PM
Ahhhhh wooooo!
Danosaur🦖 6:50:41 PM
I know it's Yellow Moon but I like Devil Moon better
Lizbot (host) 6:50:43 PM
@Danosaur🦖- There's a joke in New Orleans: A Neville brother is playing every night in every bar
Lizbot (host) 6:50:58 PM
@Randy Marthins - l love those iconic ants!
Danosaur🦖 6:50:59 PM
Hah!
Randy Marthins 6:53:04 PM
If not a neville brother, it's a neville cousin
Dennis Fangg 6:54:14 PM
@liz yes, Randy at Sellers Books. He and I did some sound performances in a plaster pit, electronics and tapes and stuff. No recordings though, that know of. He does really cool tiny drawings.
Teresa Peacock 6:55:04 PM
Eyeball Skeleton!
Justin Szeliga 6:55:19 PM
Eyeball Skeleton
Lizbot (host) 6:56:01 PM
Hi Teresa Peacock and THANK YOU!
Randy Marthins 6:56:13 PM
Guys named Randy are generally very cool - Randy Ellis/Randy Now at City Gardens, for example
Lizbot (host) 6:56:18 PM
@Justin Szeliga - haha, thanks! It was tripping me up in the moment!
Lizbot (host) 6:56:35 PM
Now The Smokey Turtle...he was so smoky is in my head!
Danosaur🦖 6:57:38 PM
@Lizbot - I feel like calling all vampires "Draculas" is an East Coast thing. Is that right?
Randy Marthins 6:57:39 PM
For some reason, D'Kid's best friend thought for the longest time that my name was "Greg" so I answer to that as well, with her Rutgers ppl
Randy Marthins 6:58:06 PM
I even made a Spotify playlist by "guys named Greg"
Lizbot (host) 6:58:47 PM
@Dennis Fangg - Yes! I wandered into Sellers when staying over for a night in Jim Thorpe before I knew he was your friend, just because of course a nice used bookstore was beckoning to G, Hattie and I, so the next time I went up there, I believe for the The Thing screening in 2022, I told him I knew you!
Randy Marthins 7:00:05 PM
@danosaur - Vampires you say? https://medium.com/@abbyorwhatever/every-talking-heads-song-was-about-vampires-50-lyrics-that-definitively-prove-that-david-byrne-620b330f6a98
Lizbot (host) 7:00:14 PM
@Randy Marthins - Randyland in Pittsburgh was built and is preceded over by a very delightful weirdo named...Randy, go figure! That proves yr theory!
Justin Szeliga 7:00:25 PM
I was wondering about them a month or so ago & was trying to figure out if they were at an age where they would be starting a band with their kids yet
Randy Marthins 7:00:28 PM
I made THAT playlist, too
Randy Marthins 7:01:50 PM
@lizbot - Pittsburgh is practically Ohio, and I'm not allowed in Ohio - so I'm not allowed in PGH either
Lizbot (host) 7:02:25 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - haha, I never did that and it's funny you should mention it as a coastal thing because the ONLY time I ever heard someone say "draculas" plural like that to refer to all vampires was from podcaster/radio guy Jesse Thorn, who is San Fran native, went to college at UC Santa Cruz and now lives in L.A., so West Coast through and through!
Danosaur🦖 7:02:46 PM
@Randy Marthins - Interesting hypothesis. Fangs for pointing it out.
Lizbot (host) 7:03:32 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - RarHar!
George Korein 7:04:04 PM
👉🧛🏻‍♂️👈
Lizbot (host) 7:04:57 PM
@Justin Szeliga - oh wow. yeah, i have not thought about those kids and their dad in many years, but they were in heavy rotation here at WPRB back in the early to mid 2000s. I'm guessing they're in their early/mid-30s now
Danosaur🦖 7:05:25 PM
@Lizbot - That's weird about Jesse Thorne saying draculas too. I've only ever heard Seth Meyers say it
Lizbot (host) 7:05:31 PM
@Justin Szeliga - If memory serves, I think Eyeball Skeleton came into the studio and played a set on Jon's show..
George Korein 7:05:48 PM
The vapey turtle is vapid
Randy Marthins 7:06:30 PM
@danosaur - I'm thinking there's a deeper connection to The Cars (Ric Ocasek was really weird looking , and Benjamin Orr was SO PRETTY) and tying it back even further to Jonathan Richman (who didn't drink .... wine)
Lizbot (host) 7:06:41 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - Battle of the Coast ghouls and ghosts! Is Is East Seth the Beast Seth, or is West Jes the Best Jes?!
Randy Marthins 7:07:14 PM
CBGB could've been a vampire hive
Lizbot (host) 7:07:15 PM
@George Korein - oh man, you need to made a 2020s tribute called the Vapey Turtle, but i feel it will be a sad song!
George Korein 7:08:08 PM
This
Lizbot (host) 7:08:36 PM
@Randy Marthins - What about Wheeling, West Virginia? Are you allowed there? They have a rather nice library
George Korein 7:09:00 PM
This mick karn bass line is wild 🔥
Lizbot (host) 7:11:09 PM
@George Korein - That darn Karn was quite the skilled bassman. So gooey. Don't fret! No regret! Mick is here
George Korein 7:11:10 PM
Dang that whole song is was hearing the beat flipped
George Korein 7:11:16 PM
Like i
Danosaur🦖 7:11:16 PM
@Randy Marthins - That line in the original Dracula movie always cracked me up. It's like people who used to say, "I don't smoke...tobacco" back in the 70's
George Korein 7:11:29 PM
Was feeling the beat incorrectly
Lizbot (host) 7:12:58 PM
@George Korein - yeet that beat! rebeat that song, repeat the beat
George Korein 7:13:44 PM
I enjoyed that last sunny twee song
Lizbot (host) 7:15:44 PM
@George Korein - I wish I'd seen The Shermans live in the Age of Twee!
Danosaur🦖 7:16:08 PM
@Lizbot - Dipping out. Thanks for the music and chat! Have a good week and weekend
the other andrew 7:16:20 PM
king missile with dogbowl is best king missile!
the other andrew 7:16:31 PM
hi lizbot!
Lizbot (host) 7:16:41 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - I was partial to those Warhol Dracula and Flesh for Frankenstein movies! Any excuse to put Udo Kier in a movie!
Lizbot (host) 7:16:50 PM
Hi the other andrew!
Lizbot (host) 7:16:59 PM
@the other andrew - YES.
Lizbot (host) 7:17:48 PM
@the other andrew - I believe John S. Hall reunited with Dogbowl for some shows recently. JSH is also releasing a poem a day on his social media/website and they are often funny
the other andrew 7:18:46 PM
i saw them with my kids in brooklyn last year and it was a blast!
Lizbot (host) 7:19:06 PM
@Randy Marthins - I need to explore your Benjamin Orr / Rik Ocasek theory further. What are the implications? Do they cancel each other out?
the other andrew 7:19:22 PM
john's daily poems are pretty entertaining
Lizbot (host) 7:20:18 PM
@the other andrew - Oh excellent! My husband & I have been wanting to see him. We almost convinced him to come play a show in Philly. He pretty much never comes to Philly. It's not like we can't get to shows in NYC, but it's been tricky to fit in jaunts to NYC lately
the other andrew 7:21:51 PM
getting to brooklyn from outside the city is the worst
Lizbot (host) 7:22:30 PM
@Randy Marthins - As a fan of Pittsburgh in general, and given that you are a Randy, you might be persuaded to break your no-Pittsburgh rule to get a photo under the RANDYLAND sign?? Also, Randy is a lovable oddball who is fun to chat with, and he is ALWAYS out there on the corner of his junk-art installation. You can hear him from two blocks away! I have tested this theory: I stayed in a place a couple places from him and heard him all day!
Lizbot (host) 7:24:40 PM
@the other andrew - Yeah, it's not great! Last year I got up to NYC about twice a month and got to a ton of shows! Since Fall 2025, i've only gone up once! But I'll be going up for the Belle & Sebastian reunion show in May
Justin Szeliga 7:26:05 PM
I think it was John Solomon's show ES were on. I remember it as one of the great moments in radio .
the other andrew 7:26:45 PM
going to see richard dawson in ny in 2 weeks actually
Lizbot (host) 7:27:21 PM
@Justin Szeliga - 100%. I used to play their EPs, but I remember when Jon had them in person in the old studio.
Randy Marthins 7:28:33 PM
@lizbot - "I need to explore your Benjamin Orr / Rik Ocasek theory further. What are the implications? Do they cancel each other out?" In my mind, they were almost like sibling vampires, with Ric being the older, protective brother
Lizbot (host) 7:28:34 PM
@the other andrew - Oh nice! Where is he playing? He played Johnny Brenda's in Philly a couple years ago, but I couldn't make it to that show and I deeply regret it! I will be traveling touring colleges for my teen in late March, so doubtful I'll be seeing him this time aroudn either!
Lizbot (host) 7:29:09 PM
@Randy Marthins - Hrmmm. Okay, I could see that. I think you need to make a comic to this end
TAndy 7:30:02 PM
Hey hey, Lizbot!
Lizbot (host) 7:30:24 PM
Hey TANdy!
Lizbot (host) 7:30:52 PM
@TAndy - Are you still nocturnal? If so, how does Daylight Savings affect a TAndy?
𓀠 ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 𓀡 7:32:23 PM
😸 it’s prog!
Randy Marthins 7:32:32 PM
@lizbot - thanks! I need to get the words first, then maybe put some art to it; like gorey, I'm "words first" kinda guy LOL
the other andrew 7:32:37 PM
richard D will be at LPR
Lizbot (host) 7:32:50 PM

Lizbot (host) 7:33:38 PM
@𓀠 ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 𓀡 - Played some Dagmar Krause et. al. earlier in the show
Lizbot (host) 7:34:25 PM
@the other andrew - Ah, man! I wish he was coming a little later in the spring!
Randy Marthins 7:34:37 PM
https://www.batcon.org/
the other andrew 7:34:51 PM
on the Orr / Ocasek theory - do you think that could apply to Cheap Trick? Robin & Tom were some prettyboys but Rick & Bun E. were far from it
Lizbot (host) 7:36:37 PM
@Randy Marthins - I made it to the Ann Congress Ave Bat Bridge in Austin, TX in 2015 and managed to escape guano-free! Drove into Texas Hill Country to visit a cave with the smallest bat species in the world and got bombarded by mosquitos just outside the cave because that bat population was dwindlings, so I have a deep appreciation for the bats!
Randy Marthins 7:36:49 PM
@andrew - YES!!! I considered there may have been a Chicago hub as well!!! That might be another volune
Randy Marthins 7:37:42 PM
Cheap Trick lyrics are super creepy as well
𓀠 ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 𓀡 7:37:42 PM
was listening, preparing dinner, couldn’t chat
TAndy 7:37:50 PM
DST eve makes me work one less hour so it's fine with me!
Lizbot (host) 7:38:17 PM
@the other andrew / @Randy Marthins - We need funds to research this more deeply! And a field trip to Rockford, Illinois
Lizbot (host) 7:38:42 PM
@TAndy - I love more sun in the evening, but I feel discombobulated the first of DLS!
Lizbot (host) 7:39:32 PM
@Randy Marthins - Another Chicago connection - Chicago prog band Cheer-Accident covered Cheap Trick's The Dream Police! They made the bridge extra long and complicated!
Randy Marthins 7:40:56 PM
@lizbot - I have a feeling David Lynch might be connected as well; Peter Wolf was his roommate and I think he knew Jonathan Richman
Lizbot (host) 7:42:25 PM
@Randy Marthins - Color me be-Geil'd
Randy Marthins 7:43:04 PM
@lizbot - I know there's a Dream Police cover that loops it endlessly, with modulation up & down, but I don't recall the band; Jon played it, I think? Or Jen?
Dennis Fangg 7:44:07 PM
Hey again, checked out to eat. Excited for all the Dream Police permutations.
Lizbot (host) 7:44:44 PM
This song is for the sun, which briefly made an appearance for 10 minutes here in Princeton before setting today
Dennis Fangg 7:45:23 PM
Nice trees!
Van Kapeghian 7:45:27 PM
Donovan has some great songs
Lizbot (host) 7:45:34 PM
@Dennis Fangg - It's so good! I love the crazy bridge! Also, you heard it here first: Cheer-Accident most likely coming back to Philly from Chicago in mid-July
Randy Marthins 7:45:48 PM
After I get the artwork done on the two books I promised this year (I'm WAY AHEAD of schedule, god bless me), I'll dig back into the vampire stories
Dennis Fangg 7:45:59 PM
Cool!
Lizbot (host) 7:46:22 PM
@Dennis Fangg - I love the unapologetic cornball nature of this era of Donovan! The Tinker & The Crab is another one I can't help but sing...to crabs down the shore
George Korein 7:46:26 PM
Kissed out floaty mcfloatface
Lizbot (host) 7:46:56 PM
@Van Kapeghian - I grew up playing my mom's Donovan records until she begged me to stop. I called these moments Donovanathons
George Korein 7:47:04 PM
The onion had a headline “crab just happy to be in bucket with all of his friends”
Van Kapeghian 7:47:57 PM
@George - just nice to be included, somedays - I feel that crab
Number 6 7:48:10 PM
Greetings!
Richard of Rocky Hill 7:48:55 PM
To me, Donovan's double album A Gift from a Flower ~ with tracks like "Sun" is one of his best. Interestingly, that album was created after Donovan stopped using any drugs and encouraged his listeners to do likewise.
George Korein 7:49:55 PM
“My life’s a natural
George Korein 7:50:23 PM
“My life’s a natural habit, the man can’t pull no thing on me”
sean burns 7:50:27 PM
Hey Richard! I wonder if any of his listeners listen to him
sean burns 7:51:02 PM
Donovan is often overlooked he really ruled the FM airwaves back then
Richard of Rocky Hill 7:51:38 PM
@ Lizbot (host) You're spot on IMHO in your take on A Gift From A Flower to a Garden :-D
Lizbot (host) 7:56:14 PM
Hi sean burns!
Number 6 7:56:21 PM
@Lizbot- I put some other concert info for you in the lost and found box.
Lizbot (host) 7:57:21 PM
@sean burns - Donovan hits just right on a spring day with the windows up
Lizbot (host) 7:57:35 PM
Hi Number 6! Thank you for the synth flyer!
Commie Francis (1) 7:58:49 PM
donovan is also perfect for a snowy evening when it was summer yesterday
Lizbot (host) 7:59:14 PM
@Richard of Rocky Hill - I love that double-album! Darla Records back in the late 90s/early 2000s put out a tribute to Donovan featuring covers by the twee bands on their label and they cleverly titled it "A Gift from a Garden to a Flower"
Commie Francis (1) 7:59:17 PM
also donovan is just simply perfect, i really love him
Lizbot (host) 7:59:26 PM
Hi Commie Francis!
Commie Francis (1) 7:59:31 PM

Much obliged, the next synth night is 4/2, BCNU!

TAndy 8:00:21 PM

Commie Francis (1) 8:00:21 PM

Number 6 8:01:09 PM
You're hubby can go.
Lizbot (host) 8:02:05 PM
@Commie Francis - Have a good show! I'll be listening on my way back to Philly
Lizbot (host) 8:02:53 PM
Thanks for listening, Richard of Rocky Hill!
Lizbot (host) 8:03:01 PM
