Pat (host) 10:14:56 AM
this opening set just made sense to me this morning
goots 10:15:27 AM
feels right to me too
fr1dayafternoon 10:18:13 AM
Goots, did it come through both left and right channels?
Pat (host) 10:19:03 AM
howday fr1day!
dan Cochrane 10:19:10 AM
Good morning, nice follow up to dificil set
Pat (host) 10:19:25 AM
thanks dan!
goots 10:19:59 AM
@fr1day not quite, but I think my brain made it seem so
dan Cochrane 10:21:49 AM
Oh baby, just watched wonderful doc. On YouTube about history of Moog, and west coast version, rebirth of modular synth in recent years. Birth of the wire might be title.
Pat (host) 10:23:52 AM
that sounds in my wheelhouse dan
goots 10:25:45 AM
I Dream of Wires?
Richard Mitnick 10:26:37 AM
I have been clicked in. Happy to have you in my digiteria. I hope you are having a great show.
Richard Mitnick 10:27:04 AM
I am asking many hosts, how long have you hosted a program on WPRB, and do you have or have you had any connection to the university?
fr1dayafternoon 10:28:24 AM
Thanks for confirming those were Reich's organs. I thought I recognized them bc of the maracas
dan Cochrane 10:29:48 AM
Yes! I need to watch it again. It becomes clear, that buying filters, etc. is very addictive. Similar to guitar pedals I suspect.
dan Cochrane 10:31:15 AM
It seemed many thought Switched On Bach was more curse than sonic miracle .
dan Cochrane 10:31:56 AM
I need to get album that preceded it on Nonesuch.
Pat (host) 10:32:04 AM
hi richard! I have no affiliation with the university. I grew up in the Philly suburbs listening to WPRB in the 90s and auditioned to become a community DJ in 2018
Pat (host) 10:33:24 AM
funny coincidence the algorithm just showed me a clip the other day of Wendy Carlos in her studio talking how she made Switched on Bach from a BBC
dan Cochrane 10:34:52 AM
Pat, in 1999 I auditioned for stupid human tricks, late night with David Letterman. Didn’t make the cut unfortunately. A double jointed teen boy did however. Wriggling his shoulder blades.
Pat (host) 10:35:19 AM
sorry dan but I can't blame the producers, grotesque always win on TV
Pat (host) 10:36:33 AM
audition also not the write word. I really submitted a form where I answered some questions and pitched a show and some set ideas. then I got selected and then I had to go through training and then I had to submit to get on the schedule
dan Cochrane 10:36:36 AM
YougotthatrightP! I only turned a bar of Dove soap, into a bar of Dave soap. They shot video!
Pat (host) 10:36:59 AM
that's the process
dan Cochrane 10:37:12 AM
Fascinating!
Pat (host) 10:37:34 AM
of course I meant right not write
dan Cochrane 10:38:02 AM
As opposed to trying to nail Ken Nordine’s heaven sent voice.
Pat (host) 10:38:19 AM
if only
Jon Solomon 10:38:45 AM
Aw yeah.
Pat (host) 10:39:18 AM
we're doing it Jon! WE'RE DOING IT!
Pat (host) 10:39:40 AM
also just saw the fugazi/albini news on instagram
dan Cochrane 10:39:57 AM
I’m a little obsessed with Teenage Electronics gear presently. A$ expensive as is i$.
Pat (host) 10:40:25 AM
I know what you mean dan
Pat (host) 10:40:40 AM
but lo fi ain't cheap these days
dan Cochrane 10:41:30 AM
Albini, the late Steve? I visited him, his studio on Belmont Ave. in Chicago. Passed it twice every day. Astonishing collection of guitar amps, etc.
Pat (host) 10:41:46 AM
that's the albini
dan Cochrane 10:42:06 AM
His band Shellac so cool!
dan Cochrane 10:43:06 AM
Teenage Electronics and Freitag shoulder bag$. Both fetish worthy.
Pat (host) 10:43:16 AM
he originally produced fugazi's in on the kill taker but the band shelved it and rerecorded it. it's been oft bootlegged but dischord recordds announced this morning they've officially released the albini tracks on bandcamp
dan Cochrane 10:43:36 AM
That’s terrific news
Jon Solomon 10:43:47 AM
With all the proceeds going to Albini's wife's charity. Quite the gesture. I have purchased!
Pat (host) 10:44:13 AM
oh I hadn't even realized that part jon! excellent!
Pat (host) 10:44:20 AM
I too will be purchasing!!!
dan Cochrane 10:45:01 AM
My art restoration business was a few blocks from Albini’s studio. 25 years at that location, before I took a job in upstate NY.
Pat (host) 10:46:26 AM
are you still in art restoration dan?
dan Cochrane 10:47:04 AM
Yes, works on paper and original photographs. No photoshop.
dan Cochrane 10:48:55 AM
I was brought several copies of Beatles “butcher” infamous LP cover over the years. “Can you remove the pasted over version?”
Pat (host) 10:49:24 AM
That's awesome! My wife is a curator and I've attened many an open house at the Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts in Philly. Fascincating stuff.
dan Cochrane 10:49:47 AM
I had many, many Antiques Roadshow moments over the years.
Pat (host) 10:50:01 AM
That's fun!
dan Cochrane 10:51:16 AM
Met a NYC conservator who restored a torn up police mugshot, taken from waste basket, of…Paul Rubens. Imagine what that’$ worth today?
Pat (host) 10:52:07 AM
quite a pee wee collectible
dan Cochrane 10:52:17 AM
Color polaroid. The conservator charged over $2K.
Pat (host) 10:53:56 AM
I would love to get into film restoration but I don't think I have the actual patience for it also I do not want to go back to school. Nice idea on paper though.
dan Cochrane 10:54:17 AM
I restored Kevin’s strategic battle plan, for late director of “Home Alone”, John Hughes. Offices north shore of Chicago. Not to boast, I hate that.
Pat (host) 10:54:42 AM
That's pretty awesome!
dan Cochrane 10:55:34 AM
I really feel most of my training happened building models as a kid. Parallels to cooking prep too I think.
fr1dayafternoon 10:55:53 AM
Very cool
fr1dayafternoon 10:56:23 AM
The Paul Rubens/Pee Wee doc on HBO is really. Watched it just a week or two ago. I recommend.
dan Cochrane 10:56:30 AM
Besides music do the two of you collect anything? Personal I know.
Pat (host) 10:57:03 AM
I loved that Pee Wee doc. Cried like a damn baby. I double that recommendation!
dan Cochrane 10:57:30 AM
Yes, I enjoyed that. What a visionary, like Rod Serling I feel.
fr1dayafternoon 10:57:52 AM
Oops: really great*
Pat (host) 10:58:02 AM
My son and I have been borrowing the Pee Wee's Playhouse DVDs from the library. It's super fun watching that with him. He cackles at all the gags and screams at the word of the day.
dan Cochrane 10:58:26 AM
Soupy Sayles, Steve Allen too!
fr1dayafternoon 10:59:06 AM
I neither have the space nor the capital to collect anything more than records which is becoming too much for me as it is.
fr1dayafternoon 10:59:12 AM
Awesome, Pat
dan Cochrane 10:59:28 AM
Wayne White, artist who did most of props, designs in Playhouse. Incredible artist!
dan Cochrane 11:00:06 AM
I hear ya big time.
dan Cochrane 11:02:26 AM
Anyone have tips on cleaning, long overdue, Sony blu ray, dvd player? They are pretty inexpensive. Mine is from ‘02!
dan Cochrane 11:03:47 AM
I thought you meant Neu, dah.
dan Cochrane 11:04:58 AM
Neu! Officially I guess.
dan Cochrane 11:06:13 AM
Is that Lady June cover Art credited by any chance?
fr1dayafternoon 11:06:42 AM
Space 1026 moved from the actual space at 1026 **** St, right? Do I need to censor the street name for DIY purposes?
Teresa Peacock 11:06:59 AM
Aw, my very favorite station ID. I love how your son says "Pinceton" ! <3 <3 <3
Pat (host) 11:07:05 AM
If that's the case that's news to me fr1day!
Pat (host) 11:07:34 AM
admittedly I haven't been to space 1026 in a minute
Pat (host) 11:07:39 AM
thanks teresa!
fr1dayafternoon 11:07:51 AM
Well hopefully I'm wrong. It's been years since I've been there
Pat (host) 11:08:04 AM
I got him to record a new one too, I'll cut it together someday
Pat (host) 11:09:25 AM
dan, I gave up on standard blu ray players years ago and just bought\ a refurbished PS3 and it's been great! no issues. plays great. loads quickly.
Teresa Peacock 11:09:52 AM
YAY!!! I love to hear Julian and Maggie and Hattie at all their different ages and stages!
Pat (host) 11:11:01 AM
Totally Teresa! It's like time travel!
dan Cochrane 11:13:01 AM
Ah…I’m hooked on Criterion Collection discs.
Pat (host) 11:13:13 AM
me too dan!
Pat (host) 11:13:31 AM
although now there are bunch of other boutique labels popping up. it's getting to be a problem.
Pat (host) 11:14:31 AM
Radience in particular is releasing some incredible stuff. Like early Suzuki films. They're about to put a new transfer of DePalma's Hi Mom.
Pat (host) 11:14:49 AM
*put out
Pat (host) 11:18:56 AM
I just got my hands on the Fun City Editions of Ladies and Gentlemen The Fabulous Stains!
Pat (host) 11:22:14 AM
the boutique blu ray labels are doing cool stuff

The event will feature around 665 athletes competing in 79 medal events across six sports. 🇺🇸❤️🤍💙🥇🥈🥉🇺🇸
Pat (host) 11:35:41 AM
there we go MrM thank you! Still relevant!
dan Cochrane 11:36:49 AM

So many terrific titles, films!
Pat (host) 11:37:48 AM
right back at ya MrM
Pat (host) 11:38:24 AM
it's true there have been "hip" studios I mean the one that comes to mind is Miramax but that's obviously been tainted by it's former owner
dan Cochrane 11:39:25 AM
Opened up my ‘02 Sony BR/DVD player. Intriguing for sure. Safety First
dan Cochrane 11:40:50 AM
Just watched Welcome To Me, Kristen Wiig, phenomenal funny, cringe inducing. Popped up on YT
Pat (host) 11:41:19 AM
Oh yeah... never saw that but I see Kristen Wiig riding a swan. Is is that movie?
dan Cochrane 11:41:35 AM
Flat out shocking actually.
Pat (host) 11:42:00 AM
I feel like that movie had a notable director
Teresa Peacock 11:42:03 AM
@Pat -- I meant to chime in when you first mentioned the diss to 'Janet Planet' a week (a few weeks?) ago. So my mom and mom-in-law went to see it when it came out, maybe together or maybe separately with other friends. My mom LOVED it and makes reference to it frequently. Meanwhile, my MIL, her friends, my mom's friends, etc. mostly despised it -- often based upon what they considered Janet's poor parenting skills and self-absorption and spacey passivity. Of note -- they
dan Cochrane 11:42:29 AM
Yes! I’ll watch it again today. She whispers some of the most hilarious lines.
Teresa Peacock 11:43:31 AM
are all long-time residents of Western MA (Northampton & Amherst, mostly). Was the character 'Janet' somehow too close to home?
Pat (host) 11:44:01 AM
Teresa both your Mom and MIL are correct in that the movie rules and the mom is a mess
dan Cochrane 11:44:08 AM
This was truly weird! A film tie in with a ad for something else. Hail Mary the films. Might be fast food ad. So bizarre
Teresa Peacock 11:45:07 AM
My MIL especially, who used to work as a psychology therapist, said she was DISGUSTED by the character and had met too many Janets in her time as a therapist...
Pat (host) 11:45:36 AM
haha, so yeah it hit waaay to close to home for her
Teresa Peacock 11:46:23 AM
@Pat -- Interesting! Now I REALLY want to see it!
Pat (host) 11:48:37 AM
it's an incredible film
Pat (host) 11:49:15 AM
the way it's shot, the sound design, the pace, it's all very unique, it's a singular experience
Teresa Peacock 11:51:00 AM
That's definitely part of what my mom responded to so positively. But she also retrospectively wishes she had parented me more like Janet did her daughter (Yikes?).
Pat (host) 11:51:16 AM
haha
Jon Solomon 11:51:52 AM
The extended "construction sounds outside The Barge window" mix of this track is less enjoyable than what everyone else is hearing thought their distant radios...
Pat (host) 11:51:53 AM
I mean Janet is a mess but I have a lot of empathy for the character
Pat (host) 11:52:12 AM
jon it's sooooooo loud
Pat (host) 11:52:31 AM
and i'm on the other side of the building
Jon Solomon 11:52:46 AM
I would have left but I decided to wait until the close of your show. MY MISTAKE!

Jon Solomon 11:54:14 AM
Surely this is not what Juvenile meant.
Teresa Peacock 11:54:48 AM
@MrM -- Right?! Who knew she put out a record as a singer way back in the 'Camille Claudel' days!
Pat (host) 11:56:33 AM
I've got a lot of Adjani films to catch up on

@Jon & @Pat -- Coincidentally, a house right across the street from ours is in the midst of being completely razed. I heard a noise like a helicopter hovering low over my radio listening space and got sorta paranoid at first. Turns out it was just a dump truck at the demolition site!
Jon Solomon 11:59:00 AM
What was it that Doctor Cosmo used to say about the radar...?
