Rob from Maryland 5:05:16 PM
Good luck with your drive, Dan. Radar and National Weather Service seem to indicate smooth driving conditions (at least right now)

Carlos Ramone 5:10:27 PM
Recently spent time in Seattle airport..sub pop has a shop there
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:11:10 PM
I think the Sub Pop shop is closing at SETAC. When I flew in there we landed in the wrong terminal, would love to have seen.
donutage 5:11:12 PM
Also, today is Marching Band Day.
Rob from Maryland 5:11:14 PM
Agree Carlos
Rob from Maryland 5:11:44 PM
I think the Sub Pop shop closed at the end of last year
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:12:02 PM
I was marching around my dining room with a baton last night. Did I know this was because tomorrow was Marching Band Day? No I did not.
DJ Tenderloin 5:12:30 PM
I finally got to hit up a Third Man shop when we were in Nashville seeing Mavis Staples - really cool store. the room with guitars and pedals is fun.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:12:39 PM
Oh wow!
DJ Tenderloin 5:13:14 PM
they also press vinyl of like every show at the blue room. so many records
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:13:31 PM
I have a couple of those. Excellent idea.

Hey Jon and everyone! It's good to be home from work and listening.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:16:40 PM
Alex! Hello!
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:18:57 PM
You ever want a record, are unable to find it, eventually break down and buy it on eBay and it is even better than you hoped? That's my relationship with the copy of the Thief soundtrack I'm playing presently...
Marcus Haupt 5:19:50 PM
Hello Jon! Tangerine Dream also known for the train scene in Risky Business
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:20:42 PM
Good evening, Marcus. TD are sort of a blind spot for me but I loved the Thief score when I saw it for the first time and had been checking sountrack sections of record stores since.
Patrick Rapa 5:20:48 PM
do you think they meant the color or the fruit?
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:21:28 PM
Thoughtful entrance, Patrick.
Patrick Rapa 5:21:39 PM
oh it's the fruit! "inspired by mishearing the line "tangerine trees and marmalade skies" from the Beatles"
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:22:17 PM
Fact-checking in real time. Thank you.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:23:43 PM
I saw DJ Pup briefly today. They're moving away from WPRB so they'll be filling in for me to say "goodbye" on 3/18. Mark yer calendars!
Marcus Haupt 5:24:26 PM
Jon, I have the Sorcerer soundtrack on vinyl, also Tangerine Dream, and a great movie
Richard Mitnick 5:25:02 PM
I have been clicked in all day. Happy to have you in my digiteria. I hope you have a great show.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:25:17 PM
A very chill, relaxing movie Marcus. Saw it for the first time last year.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:26:18 PM
Welcome in, Richard. To answer your question from another chat my "day job" is as WPRB's Operations Manager handing the business side of the offices plus responding to donor requests. Hope that helps!

Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:27:50 PM
Pretty much. But it works.
DJ Tenderloin 5:32:37 PM
there's a joke forming with your "night job" and "donor requests" that I think I should purge before it fully forms. For the best.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:32:52 PM
Feel free to workshop it offline.
DJ Tenderloin 5:33:34 PM
I am interested in this thing - whatever it is - that you spoke of earlier. something to tell me! I am intrigued sir.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:34:15 PM
We had talked about getting a pizza and I think I have a date to propose for said pizza enjoyment.
Teresa Peacock 5:34:27 PM
Good evening, Jon Solomon & fellow Jon Solomon superfans!!! I love the festive percussion of this funky Go Kurosawa track! I know the sound isn't actually made by sleigh-bells but that continuous tchtch-tchtch is so infectious and festive-sounding!
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:34:31 PM
Putting it in the chat so I don't forget.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:34:45 PM
Teresa P. it is great to "see" you here (or anywhere else).
Richard Mitnick 5:34:57 PM
Thanks for remembering my question, Jon.You know, some people have been here so long, like you, Dan and Marvin, I just wonder at the connections. Yours is the closest I have found. Thanks again.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:35:12 PM
That Go Kurosawa was a fun one to cross my desk. Came out last year but I didn't hear until this week.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:35:46 PM
Happy to help. Also always happy to answer any WPRB questions via email when not on the radio.
DJ Tenderloin 5:36:03 PM
I LOVE PIZZA. and yes we did speak of this - face to face! I should probably have some work done - quickly
Richard Mitnick 5:36:13 PM
And how about the host of "Music You Can't Hear On the Radio"? Like eons.
Teresa Peacock 5:36:20 PM
I didn't hear it until this very moment you played it! Thank you for that! (-:
DJ Tenderloin 5:36:52 PM
holler at me - out of town 3/12 - 3/15
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:37:01 PM
John from MYCHOTR is coming up on 50 years as a WPRB. I believe that anniversary is later this year?
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:37:21 PM
I recently learned who the second-longest-tenured WPRB DJ was and the answer did surprise me.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:37:54 PM
I loved Kikagaku Moyo so I had to press play, Teresa.
Teresa Peacock 5:38:08 PM
WOW!!! What a benchmark! <3
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:38:56 PM
That honour goes to Dave The Obscure, who apparently first hosted Sangeet in the mid-1980s. I didn't make my initial WPRB appearance until 1988 (basically tied with Wilbo).
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:39:20 PM
Dave is such a modest dude this came up basically by accident...
Teresa Peacock 5:40:12 PM
So John Weingart began hosting his show in our bicentennial year '76! And still as engaged and relevant as ever.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:40:37 PM
He could confirm but I believe so.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:41:20 PM
From John's radio bio:
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:41:34 PM
"I did my first show on WPRB from 6:00-9:00 AM on a Monday morning in February 1974. After turning on the station, I opened with Pete Seeger singing, "Oh, Had I A Golden Thread." My other memory of that show was that a woman called to say, "Young man, do you realize you are not in Nashville but rather in Princeton, New Jersey. I hope you will soon switch to music more consenent with this area."
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:42:15 PM
"About 15 months later, I left New Jersey and, I thought, radio, but returned to both and started a 3-hour Sunday night show in February 1976 shortly after Paul Robeson died. I am so grateful that the radio gods at WPRB have let me stay and I have spent the vast majority of Sunday nights since trying to create radio that takes wonderful, interesting, sometimes funny, often political, more often reasonably obscure songs and tunes, and weaves them together to be more than the sum of their parts."
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:42:32 PM
So there ya have it!
DJ Tenderloin 5:43:25 PM
music more consistent with this area - yeah if this area is MARS. Jon were you even old enough to drive when you started?
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:44:28 PM
I was not. My parents would drop me off well before my show and pick me up after. My first time slot was 4-7 am ET. I'd go to Wawa, buy a newspaper and sleep most of Sunday.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:45:00 PM
I'd listen to records from like 11 pm on, or watch the slow jam R&B program The Quiet Storm do their thing before me...
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:45:08 PM
Wait, is this a Reddit AMA?
DJ Tenderloin 5:45:31 PM
wow. your listeners should chip in - and buy your parents a MEDAL
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:46:40 PM
I try and credit them every chance I get. I don't remember when I first drove to my show myself actually.
Rob from Maryland 5:46:45 PM
Jon, your parents dropped you off at FOUR AM?? What amazing cool parents you have!!
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:47:22 PM
They probably dropped me off closer to 11 pm and I just stayed at WPRB listening to music. But, yes.
DJ Tenderloin 5:47:24 PM
My mom would've NEVER done that.
Rob from Maryland 5:47:27 PM
I mean, at ELEVEN PM for a 4 am show? What amazing cool parents!!
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:48:17 PM
Yeah, I think they got that it was a big deal for me. It is unclear if my parents ever actually sleep so this is all very "on brand" for them.
DJ Tenderloin 5:48:39 PM
I can hear my mom now -
DJ Tenderloin 5:48:54 PM
"Jonathan have you lost your MIND?"
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:49:12 PM
They're probably listening now. Not sure if this is my dad's sort of jazz...
Rob from Maryland 5:51:06 PM
Jon, I know your parents sleep at least once in a while ;-) there's a tee shirt somewhere in my vast pile of tees showing that
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:52:06 PM
This is accurate.
DJ Tenderloin 5:52:32 PM
My mom and dad did not support my embrace of punk rock - AT ALL
0x7EA Roffle 5:52:34 PM
Waited all day for that sax note.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:52:40 PM
Let's just say they require far less sleep than anyone in this chat.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:52:44 PM
Even Roffle.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:52:48 PM
Hi Roffle!
0x7EA Roffle 5:52:57 PM
Hi even
donutage 5:53:23 PM
Many thanks to Ma & Pa Solomon!
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:54:28 PM
DJ Tenderloin, I think my parents were extremely concerned about "the rock and roll lifestyle" based on what newspapers and TV showed them. Until they met a band from England who needed a place to stay that we housed despite their objections. That group was made up of accountants and solicitors and they all got along smashingly.
donutage 5:54:51 PM
I just bought my ticket for Gogol Bordello at Union Transfer later this month. No snoozing & losing this time.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:54:59 PM
That should be FUN.
donutage 5:55:25 PM
I've nnever seen them before. V. excited.
Marcus Haupt 5:55:39 PM
Mom and dad they knew the time, Gizmos scratching, Milk D's rhyming, Jon is DJ-ing "Top Billing" - remix
DJ Tenderloin 5:55:55 PM
Holy crap a band crashed on your parent's floor?!?! wtf? crazy. would anyone know this band? wow. that's a great story
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:56:21 PM
The guy who ran the band's label at the time was a former WPRB DJ and he was in a bind to find them housing.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:56:29 PM
It was The Dentists!
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:56:43 PM
This opened the floodgates for bands to stay with us.
donutage 5:57:04 PM
(Also enjoying the Jon Solomon lore-dump tonight)
Marcus Haupt 5:57:14 PM
I love the Dentists!
0x7EA Roffle 5:57:35 PM
Trust the tribe.
DJ Tenderloin 5:57:52 PM
The Dwarves crashed at a group house I lived in in Baltimore years ago. It was f'ing pandamonium for 3 solid days.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:57:56 PM
I saw Matt from the fairly famous in the scheme of things band Hum last fall for the first time in 30 years and he clearly remembered many details about my parents' home. I was like "you have stayed a lot of places, good sir." But he wasn't fudging he described their living room accurately.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:58:13 PM
THE LORE IS LOOSE TONIGHT
DJ Tenderloin 5:58:30 PM
wow - how many bands have crashed at your 'rents place???
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 5:59:02 PM
I dunno. A fair number in the 1990s?
0x7EA Roffle 5:59:48 PM
If your parents don't have any 'I with the band" shirts I'll be surprised.
DJ Tenderloin 5:59:51 PM
I can't believe your parents allowed bands to crash there. just completely amazing. unheard of? unless you know your parents are old hippies or live in an anarchist compound or something
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:00:40 PM
They're not hippies and they do not live in an anarchist compound. I think they were just absurdly supportive. That is not a complaint!
Dan Wade {2} 6:00:57 PM
Sun Ra and Take5 both went to college in my hometown
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:01:07 PM
Dan, did you see the new Sun Ra doc on PBS?
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:01:27 PM
(Will be discussing it in a moment.)
DJ Tenderloin 6:02:20 PM
I know some folks in bands. Should I send them to your parent's house? I have not yet seen the Sun Ra doc. I did watch the John Williams doc today. He may be in essence the world's greatest pop star.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:02:32 PM
DJ Tenderloin, we haven't even touched on when The Grifters got snowed in at my parents' place during a blizzard. A true culture clash!
DJ Tenderloin 6:02:58 PM
These are great stories - I want to hear these over pizza!
Amy Lee 6:03:35 PM
Was waiting for a mention of the doc.
Dan Wade {2} 6:03:58 PM
I taped it
Alex Crowe 6:08:16 PM
Never understood Sun Ra's music. Saw him at the Bottom Line with the Arkestra in the mid 80s. Understood maybe 15 minutes of the performance. Around the same time I saw a Sun Ra doc on PBS. In that doc I recall an accomnplished musician from the band saying he didnt understand what he was playing for 5 years. So I felt like I was in good company. But I still dont understand 40 years later.
jimbooooo 6:08:31 PM
Say it with me now...Ferris Beullers Day Off!
Zach 6:09:41 PM
Wprb lore? I’m in.
DJ Tenderloin 6:10:05 PM
I LOVE PIZZA
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:11:33 PM
Alex, that's more than fair. There were a few performances in the documentary I would really like to know more about however.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:12:54 PM
How can I help, Zach? Ask and I'll do my best to answer!
DJ Tenderloin 6:14:34 PM
Before WPRB Jon would just go to people's homes and hum the songs
Amy Lee 6:15:58 PM
He would respond to a bat signal in the he sky
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:16:08 PM
I'd mostly tape songs off the radio.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:16:11 PM
Hi Amy!
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:16:18 PM
Hi Jimbooooo!
jimbooooo 6:16:46 PM
One does not understand Ra, as one does not understand the entirety of the cosmos. One may absorb it and only feel its meaning after the passage of time.
DJ Tenderloin 6:17:05 PM
Bands at Your Parents House: did anything torrid happen? parents walked in on some kind of hook up, or somebody threw up in your living room? Nakedness? RockNRoll hijinks of any kind? Just wondering...
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:17:06 PM
It was great to see a famous WPRB station ID with context in the doc.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:17:41 PM
DJ Tenderloin, I do not believe so. If it did I was blissfully unaware. Usually just a bunch of dudes happy to have a non-hovel to sleep in for a night.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:18:32 PM
I need to find a photograph.
DJ Tenderloin 6:18:45 PM
Thanks for entertaining my juvenile queries. Still can't quite get over your parents having bands crash.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:19:47 PM
Here is a photo of the late Jason Noble of Rodan with a hand-drawn Mrs. Solomon tattoo on his arm in my folks' kitchen.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:19:49 PM

0x7EA Roffle 6:19:54 PM
RockNRoll hijinks! LOL
Zach 6:20:01 PM
Alright I’ve done the back-reading. I knew that Dave had been on Sangeet for a long time but didn’t actually know when you started. Did the Christmas marathon start the same year?
TAndy 6:20:09 PM
Hey Jon! Listening live from New York, at least till I get on my train back to the hotel hah
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:21:10 PM
Zach, my first Xmas broadcast was December 1988. I had been a WPRB DJ for four months.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:21:16 PM
Hey, TAndy!
donutage 6:21:21 PM
Amazing tattoo!
DJ Tenderloin 6:21:59 PM
Roffle - when Dwarves crashed at our house it was RockNRoll hijinks a plenty!
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:22:01 PM
My mom adds "without driving you to WPRB I never would have seen some of the odd things Princeton people do in the middle of the night." I have requested more information.
TAndy 6:22:08 PM
Ahh trains here, see ya in half an hour!
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:22:15 PM
I would not have invited Dwarves to stay with us.
0x7EA Roffle 6:23:29 PM
Snow White draves would do the dishes. :)
donutage 6:23:42 PM
Yes, let's get some Prinnceton After Dark stories as well.
DJ Tenderloin 6:23:42 PM
Dwarves was not my decision. One of my roomates was in a band - Jade - and they were opening for Dwarves and offered. Huge mistake.
0x7EA Roffle 6:24:21 PM
But your here to tell the tale. :)
DJ Tenderloin 6:24:53 PM
I am! They were insane and out of control.
DJ Tenderloin 6:25:49 PM
so Jon your parents obviously drove you to the station for your xmas marathon - please tell me they did not stay there with you for 24 hours.
0x7EA Roffle 6:26:15 PM
Dwarve protocols in effect.
jimbooooo 6:26:50 PM
When I saw the Dwarves in Lawrence, KS, I think the only clothing they wore were shoes, if those can be construed as "clothing"
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:28:04 PM
They definitely stayed / slept for an entire overnight or two. It was nice to have a live body in the back of the room.
Marcus Haupt 6:28:09 PM
Jon, did your mother witness the Princeton Nude Olympics?
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:28:12 PM
But not all 24.
DJ Tenderloin 6:28:37 PM
jimboooo there was copious amounts of nudity. the one dude only wore torn fishnets. and that's it. I was like - do not let that guy into our kitchen please in the name of god
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:28:38 PM
Marcus, the Nude Olympics definitely started in the same quad WPRB's old studios were in...
DJ Tenderloin 6:29:21 PM
Jon - your poor parents! I think you may owe them pizza as well....:)
Marcus Haupt 6:29:35 PM
The 80's, where every East Coast Liberal Arts College had a midnight naked run
donutage 6:29:57 PM

DJ Tenderloin, if my dad is up for it we will get some pizzas in Connecticut this weekend.
donutage 6:30:45 PM
New Haven pizza, Jon?
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:31:31 PM
New Haven-adjacent.
DJ Tenderloin 6:31:53 PM
New Haven is the best! Glad to hear it Jon, tell your dad that after hearing all of this - I think I'M sorry

I'm having a very nice time on this side of the microphone too.
Marcus Haupt 6:40:56 PM
Is this song going to be an epic tale of bearded men on horseback riding through the snow and fog to defeat the evil wizard?
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:41:34 PM
Nude Olympics lasted longer at Princeton than I realized.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:41:43 PM
"In the January 1999 Nude Olympics, 10 students required medical attention for alcohol consumption and injuries. In April 1999, out of concern for student health and potential liability, the Board of Trustees voted to ban the event, enacting a one-year suspension for any future participants."

When you add your original lyrics to it Marcus...yes!
DJ Tenderloin 6:42:02 PM
More Lore: So obviously when you started your parents were driving you, which means they drove you to shows as well - what was the first show ever? assuming you must've hit some all ages punk rock shows
DJ Tenderloin 6:43:21 PM
More Lore: did your 'rents stay for the shows? or just drop off and pick up? again - your poor parents, heroes!
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:43:50 PM
Oh, this is a CHOICE question.

WPRB related content: I just want to extend kudos to whomever is responsible for making the WPRB merch store a reality. I can finally replace my Radio Destructor T-shirt after 20+ years of loyal service.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:44:18 PM
Patrick, that's mostly myself and Dan from Tomorrow is an Octopus getting it across the finish line.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:44:52 PM
My first concert was Men At Work with INXS opening at the Mann Music Center in 1983. My parents and my sister also went. I purchased a bootleg shirt in the parking lot that turned pink on the first wash.

In 1988 I wanted to go to a punk show at City Gardens in Trenton and my parents were (rightfully) concerned so they did their own drive to City Gardens prior. It was a very chill $0.99 Dance Night so it passed their test.
DJ Tenderloin 6:46:03 PM
You came from a land down under. New Jersey.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:46:35 PM
So I would guess they drove me to see GBH, Dag Nasty, Verbal Abuse (not Assault) and The Accused the day before I started high school. How we coordinated how they picked me up again a few hours later without cell phones I do not know. But it worked!
Marcus Haupt 6:46:39 PM
Be Good Jonny
DJ Tenderloin 6:46:44 PM
Wow - your parents did reconnaissance! Now that's love.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:46:56 PM

Back again, coming back to this sweet track. It's nice getting to hear the show while not groggy from the wakeup struggle!
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:47:44 PM
Wow you're kinda right Dan!
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:47:52 PM
Appreciate it / you, TAndy.
DJ Tenderloin 6:48:03 PM
Thank god they didn't have to stay with you, like at the station! Truly heroes.
TAndy 6:48:56 PM
<:)
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:48:57 PM
Yeah, if they had gone to a show that had a skinhead wall of death I think they would not have been as likely to permit this.
0x7EA Roffle 6:50:34 PM
Could be a dealbreaker. :)
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:51:48 PM

I am misreading that note or Rodan hitting on your moms...
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:53:41 PM
I believe it was simply admiration.
DJ Tenderloin 6:53:56 PM
"The lovely Mrs. S"
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:54:13 PM

Richard Lyons 6:54:21 PM

Richard, you're never late.

Rodan's drummer was eating on the porch, did not realize the screen door was closed and walked face-first into it bring his plate in.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:55:46 PM
Ouch.
DJ Tenderloin 6:56:14 PM
I guess that's kinda RockNRoll hijinks? in some world
DJ Tenderloin 6:56:49 PM
I like how on that City Gardens flyer it said - "Due To Anticipated Problems The Other Side Has Cancelled Suicidal Tendencies."
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:57:00 PM
Yes, that is a beautiful line.
DJ Tenderloin 6:57:17 PM
We heard about City Garden shows in DC. They sounded scary!
donutage 6:57:48 PM
That Rodan note is adorable.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:57:49 PM
It was a concrete bunker in a less than great part of Trenton, often filled with skinheads. What's not to fear?
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:58:11 PM
99% of the people going there came from outside the city limits, if not more.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 6:58:35 PM
The building somehow still stands.
DJ Tenderloin 6:59:02 PM
Yeah I saw that doc about the guy who booked it - he has that record store - Randy something?
Mathy Sabbath 6:59:24 PM

Rob from Maryland 6:59:59 PM
@DJ Tenderloin, what an awesome first punk show to go to. I missed that one. My first punk show might have been Bloody Mannequin Orchestra later that year at DC Space
DJ Tenderloin 7:00:26 PM
This old skool hip hop is AWESOME
donutage 7:00:34 PM
I saw the Magnetic Fields at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, OH, which would become infamous some years later as the site of Dimebag Darrell's murder.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 7:00:47 PM
Somehow I didn't know anything about Stezo until last week!
DJ Tenderloin 7:01:36 PM
Hey Rob from MD - I saw at BMO a couple times. and definitely a bunch of stuff at DC Space!
DJ Tenderloin 7:01:49 PM
I now love STEZO
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 7:01:59 PM
I can't wait for DJ Tenderloin and Rob to realize they knew each other back in the day.
TAndy 7:02:22 PM
The serendipity of this dropping RIGHT as the elevator lets off on my floor. Queue strutting to the beat and doing a little dance when I get to my room LOL
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 7:02:30 PM
Stezo sadly passed in 2020. This song is terrific and was released on a fairly big hip hop label so no idea how I missed it.
Rob from Maryland 7:02:41 PM
I was a BIG Government Issue fan so DJ T and I could very well have been at the same GI shows
Marcus Haupt 7:02:44 PM
LDP played this Monday morning
Marcus Haupt 7:03:16 PM
His haircut is called the "Philly"
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 7:03:39 PM
Oh wild, Marcus. I encountered it for the first time on Thursday listening to a "golden age of hip hop" playlist while running.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 7:03:45 PM
Great minds!
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 7:04:19 PM
I have heard good things about LDP's show and I dig their playlists.
jimbooooo 7:04:38 PM
Gotta love that ESG sample
Marcus Haupt 7:04:45 PM
I never heard of Stezo until Monday and I consider myself well-versed in 80's-90's Hip-Hop
DJ Tenderloin 7:04:50 PM
Rob - there's a huge chance we were def a the same shows. I saw GI's a ton o' times - but honestly they played more than anyone! I feel like they were on the bill of every hardcore show. and unlike so many other DC bands they didn't break up - they just got new members
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 7:04:51 PM
Same!
Marcus Haupt 7:05:20 PM
WPRB always coming up with something new
DJ Tenderloin 7:06:22 PM
I love old skool hip hop - 80s, early 90s is my jam - and I never heard of STEZO
donutage 7:06:51 PM

0x7EA Roffle 7:08:44 PM
I remember walking around the upper east side In the late 70's and kids with boom boxes rapping on porches was real.
Rob from Maryland 7:09:06 PM
DJ T - and Mitch Parker played in every band in DC at point or another including GI
donutage 7:10:17 PM
Dinner bell is ringing. Good night everyone. Be well!
DJ Tenderloin 7:10:21 PM
I haven't thought about Mitch Parker in a gazillion years. I can picture him sitting up in that crow's nest shooting video at 9:30.

Good night Donutage.
Marcus Haupt 7:12:01 PM
There's a video of pharoahe monch "Simon Says" with 12 tubas blasting behind him
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 7:12:05 PM
It's not like Stezo was on a self-released 12" or a regional act like Trenton's Blvd. Masse. He was on Fresh!
DJ Tenderloin 7:12:25 PM
More Lore: so what was the farthest place your poor parents had to drive you for you to get your rock n roll fix? did they ever drive you to Philly or NYC for a show?
Marcus Haupt 7:12:39 PM
Stezo got no airplay in NYC, that's for certain
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 7:13:02 PM
I wonder if WPRB's hip hop shows played him. I would assume so.
Marcus Haupt 7:13:14 PM

Marcus Haupt 7:14:08 PM
Stezo came at the very end of the Boom-Bap, Tribe and De La changed the game
Marcus Haupt 7:15:07 PM
After that, the gangsters rolled in
DJ Tenderloin 7:16:35 PM
Gang Starr! So good.
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 7:16:55 PM
Why did Redhead Kingpin hit moderately while Stezo didn't? Kwame?
Dan Wade {2} 7:18:21 PM
Safe at home! Thanks for riding along
Marcus Haupt 7:18:27 PM
Redhead Kingpin was used in "Do the Right Thing" by Spike Lee
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 7:18:45 PM
You made good time, Dan!
Marcus Haupt 7:19:19 PM
Kwame was widely considered a sellout for being the first rapper on MTV, before MTV Raps, which pushed him out
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 7:20:23 PM
The Kwame record from last year ruled!

Marcus Haupt 7:22:18 PM
Those polka dot shirt videos didn't do Kwame any favors
Jon Solomon 🐧 (host) 7:27:49 PM
Here I was wondering if I could pull that look off.
