Charles Arthur Russell Jr. was an American cellist, composer, producer, singer, and musician from Iowa, He passed away in 1992. Apparently, the song was inspired by childhood summer vacations to Minnesota, when Arthur’s father would pack the car early and leave before sunrise, to avoid the mid-day heat. He would sometimes take a photograph of the family before they set out. |

Richard of Rocky Hill
5:14:08 PM
You might know, but if not ... There's a killer photo taken at the legendary Greenwich Village coffee house Cafe Wha? Karen Dalton and Fred Neil are just beltin' it out, accompanied on harmonica by ... (prepare yourself) ... a very, very young (probably only a couple weeks in town) ... Bob Dylan! Oh my ...

Esoterica (host)
5:14:58 PM
wow! I just read that bob accompanied her on harmonica. cool!

5:37:41 PM
And -- WOW!! -- I only just noticed because I expanded the image of my PC screen -- Karen and Fred are seated on stools on stage, and Karen is balancing a banjo against her leg (you can see the tuning peghead in her right hand). So Dalton and Neil seemed to have been appearing together that night in Cafe Wha? and they called the young Bob Dylan to come up on stage to accompany them. Very hip!
Roy Cole
5:39:48 PM
A nice post storm sound track indeed. Shoveling was much easier this go ‘round. Btw. Speaking of blooming… I saw some daffodils coming up before the blizzard here in South Jersey.
Richard of Rocky Hill
5:40:00 PM
I have absolutely no doubt that Bob ~ who was there in New York and the Village to learn everything he could about folk music -- was thrilled beyond measure to play on stage with Dalton and Neil. Quite a memory for him still, I'm sure!

Esoterica (host)
5:42:42 PM
