Hi JimmyCarter IsMy Hero!
addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum 5:04:13 PM
heck yeah! let's get this party started!
Lizbot (host) 5:04:29 PM
I hope everyone is ready to let the good times roll! It's Mardi Gras Week here on Doubleplusgood!
Lizbot (host) 5:04:59 PM
Hi addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum! We can all mentally be on St. Claude & Dumaine!
Lizbot (host) 5:07:16 PM
Time for a Creole French version of "Big Chief"! Found this group, Krewe du Belge, on my trip to New Orleans this week
Lester Wiggs 5:08:20 PM
Hi Lizbot. I really wanted to know more about how your folks got a Wedding at 2nd and 2nd, Anthology film archives.
Lizbot (host) 5:09:05 PM
Hi Lester Wiggs!
Lizbot (host) 5:09:36 PM
@Lester Wiggs - It was at The International House in West Philly in the early 70s!
Lester Wiggs 5:10:00 PM
Last time I was there was for a Stan Brackage even. Many years ago. He was hand painting on 64 mm film. Closed eye vision.
Andrea Pier 5:10:05 PM
Anyone else hear Lily Allen in this track?
Lizbot (host) 5:10:54 PM
Hi Andrea Pier! I can kinda hear it...
Lester Wiggs 5:12:40 PM
I remember the concrete and -at that time-
addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum 5:13:40 PM
this is just what i needed. glad you're bringing back such good vacation vibes to share with us!
Lizbot (host) 5:14:57 PM
@Lester Wiggs - I saw a Stan Brakhage short film retrospective at Anthology Film Archives in NYC 20 years ago, but I think we're crossing wires because both Anthology and The International House came up in the same conversation in the chat a couple weeks ago, but yes, my parents' reception was in the I-House in its early days
Lester Wiggs 5:15:09 PM
International house is known as 'Brutalist' architecture. Refers to concrete. I was once in the basement of the Roundhouse. a lot of police there. Love these grooves. We reconnect later I think we are two handshakes away.
Lizbot (host) 5:15:45 PM
@addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum - Glad to hear it! My best to you and your family and Butter during this difficult period. I just stepped off a plane from NOLA yesterday!
addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum 5:19:44 PM
thanks @Lizbot it's so hard and sad. she doesn't know who she is anymore.
Lizbot (host) 5:20:07 PM
@addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum - Oof, that's so hard. I'm sorry
addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum 5:21:30 PM
hoping she can still feel our care! we do the best we can for them.
Lizbot (host) 5:24:11 PM
@addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum - I'm sure you guys are taking the best care of her. I love that photo of her & Hawkeye
Lester Wiggs 5:29:45 PM
So there is a reference to 'this difficult period' Just let me know now- was there some less difficult period? Please let me know the time and the place. My Tardis is waiting.
addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum 5:30:13 PM
i feel so lucky to be able to take those kinds of special photos. it helps a lot.
addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum 5:30:52 PM
ah Lester, if only anyone knew when that was!
Lester Wiggs 5:37:45 PM
Interesting question addie. I will never get on a plane again. Did you visit Antoine's? Asking the host. You do know- after I ask this will sign out- the natural gas futures are run out of a pipeline very near to
Lester Wiggs 5:38:13 PM
New Orleans.
Lizbot (host) 5:39:25 PM
@Lester Wiggs - I'd teleport to the "less difficult period" gladly
Lizbot (host) 5:39:57 PM
@Lester Wiggs - Never been to Antoine's. Been to Mayfield's, Howlin' Wolf, Spotted Cat, a few others
Lester Wiggs 5:53:26 PM
It was many years ago. My ex was always interested in food preparation. I liked to know about the moon mission. Before we got to New Orleans. we strolled through a mission control center in
Lester Wiggs 5:53:37 PM
Mississippi.
Roffle 0x7EA 5:56:08 PM
Space Camp is down there somewhere too. Alabama or something. I've been to the Huston center. Big ass Saturn 5 Applo rpcket on the lawn...lol
Lizbot (host) 5:56:19 PM
Hi Roffle 0x7EA!
Roffle 0x7EA 5:56:30 PM
Happy Gras
Lizbot (host) 5:56:48 PM
@Roffle 0x7EA - My brother kept pestering my parents to send him to space camp when he was a kid, but they never relented
Lizbot (host) 5:57:22 PM
@Roffle 0x7EA - Happy Jeudi Gras! They celebrated Lundi Gras too in NOLA!
Roffle 0x7EA 5:57:31 PM
It's tough to send your kids into space...
Lizbot (host) 5:58:40 PM
@Roffle 0x7EA - They weren't too sure about the affects on his developing brain!
Roffle 0x7EA 5:58:42 PM
Let the good times roll for sure...
Lester Wiggs 5:59:28 PM
I did the DOE energy tour. We hit all the sites. Rolling over Altomose pass, do you know ten people who will come to your rescue? I love visitors centers. They tell trooofs.
Roffle 0x7EA 5:59:51 PM
I never went, but the jury is still out about whether my brain actually developed.
Lester Wiggs 6:01:31 PM
She was a visitor.
Lizbot (host) 6:02:22 PM
@Lester Wiggs - trooofs are good!
Roffle 0x7EA 6:02:36 PM
I love the Livermore area. Great weather too. :)
Roffle 0x7EA 6:04:15 PM
Professor Longhair is simply too funny.
Lester Wiggs 6:05:00 PM
we got a vibe here.
Lester Wiggs 6:13:28 PM
my dog is barking he is never wrong.
Lester Wiggs 6:13:47 PM
he bites.
Amy Lee 6:15:52 PM
You can go to adult space camp.
Lizbot (host) 6:17:02 PM
Hi Amy Lee!
Lizbot (host) 6:17:45 PM
@Roffle 0x7EA - Love Professor Longhair. The way he sings "Tipitina" is great, with some serious gruffness in his voice on that song
Lizbot (host) 6:17:57 PM
@Roffle 0x7EA - Hopefully I'll fit that one in today!
Lester Wiggs 6:18:11 PM
Spacley Space Sprockets.
Roffle 0x7EA 6:20:44 PM
There was a music professor at Glassboro State named Wolf, and he had wild hair and eyebrows. It was amazing to behold once you knew his name.
John Coffey 6:22:45 PM
Hi Lizbot, listening with my better half. She's never been to NOLA. I gotta fix that!
Lizbot (host) 6:23:04 PM
@Roffle 0x7EA - I srill can't get over the name "Wolf Blitzer", I can't think of a cooler name. I welcome a blitz of wolves. Better than whatever else is going on. Equally good is "Lazar Wolf," a name I've loved since seeing "Fiddler On the Roof" as a kid
Lizbot (host) 6:23:11 PM
Hi John Coffey!
Lizbot (host) 6:23:33 PM
@John Coffey - Oh man, she's got to make it to NOLA some time, hopefully during Carnival!
Number 6 6:23:34 PM
Greetings!
Lizbot (host) 6:23:42 PM
Hello Number 6!
Roffle 0x7EA 6:24:20 PM
Heya 6!
Number 6 6:25:21 PM
Hi Lizbot and crew!
Number 6 6:26:43 PM
Killbot is guarding the studio right now. You can wind him up and he will go along the floor, although no very fast.
John Coffey 6:26:45 PM
@Lizbot, Early weekend of Mardi Gras perhaps. I always loved Baccus and Endymion parade. Actual Mardis Gras day is way past my bedtime!
Number 6 6:27:05 PM
*not.
Lizbot (host) 6:33:41 PM
@John Coffey - I went to see Rebirth Brass Band, playing right now on the air!, at The Howlin' Wolf during Krewe of Endymion on Saturday night and we all had to wait until Endymion ended before they showed up to play! Saturday was a rowdy night!
Lizbot (host) 6:34:28 PM
@Number 6 - I have it on good authority that Killbot is in sleep mode...for now!
Lizbot (host) 6:37:21 PM
@John Coffey - Bacchus was also wild! That was Sunday. I didn't even do the night parades on Lundi Gras so that I could get up early enough to get a good spot on the grand stands on St. Charles to catch all of Krewe Zulu, bonus: caught all of Krewe of Rex afterwards, but then got stuck on the wrong side of the street during the endless truck parades of Elks and Crescent City. I can do without the truck parades!
Number 6 6:37:26 PM
Do not disturb.
Lizbot (host) 6:38:14 PM
@John Coffey - Finally after all of Elks and a little of Crescent City, we and some other revelers broke through the barriers, thanks to a kindly guard who was happy to help us, and we RAN because there was a 16-wheeler heading our way, mercifully not too quickly!
Lizbot (host) 6:38:30 PM
@Number 6 - Do Not Disturb [Until Halloween]!
John Coffey 6:39:55 PM
@Lizbot Do they still have "famous" personalities in the parade? I remember seeing Alan Thicke one year.
Lizbot (host) 6:41:19 PM
@John Coffey - haha, yes, but I didn't see the NFL player (damned if i remember his name) and there was an actor, a guy I'd heard of but that's it. And then of course Shia LeBeouf was unofficially there, wreaking havoc in The Marigny
David Shortell 6:43:02 PM
I suppose "Mojo Hannah" is traditional. The first version I heard was Larry Williams & Johnny "Guitar" Watson's "Louisiana Hannah".
Kathy Ryan 6:46:16 PM
was the NFL player Drew Brees? Alvin Kamara was in the crowd too
Lizbot (host) 6:46:58 PM
Hi David Shortell!
Lizbot (host) 6:47:22 PM
Hi Kathy Ryan! Yes, I think so! Yes! I know next to nothing about football!
Kathy Ryan 6:48:21 PM
LOL me neither but saw them on Insta
Li Maria 6:53:02 PM
Hi Lizbot. My dad used to crank up that Frogman 45 whenever my mom went out with the "girls." We kids went wild
Lizbot (host) 6:58:53 PM
Hi Li Maria!
Lizbot (host) 6:59:30 PM
@Li Maria - haha, it's so good! I loved it then and it never gets old!
Roffle 0x7EA 7:01:34 PM
I'd go to MARDI GRAS, but it's not like I'm coming home with any beads, unless they've changed the rules. :)
Lizbot (host) 7:03:54 PM
@Roffle 0x7EA - Oh they just throw them to everyone and then set aside one parade for those particular shenanigans! It's called Krewe of Bosom Buddies!
Roffle 0x7EA 7:05:23 PM
Bosom Buddies! I love it!
Lizbot (host) 7:06:16 PM
@Roffle 0x7EA - It's crazy how many "keepsakes" or throws each krewe has! Some throw huge stuffed animals, of course Zulu throws the hand-painted coconuts, a lot throw bubble stuff and various toys, and some are really hard! George caught a 3-foot hard plastic light-up scepter that would have really hurt if it clocked him in the face! I got hit in my left eye by a really solid heavy dense smiley-face ball someone because I wasn't paying attention and taking photos instead!
Roffle 0x7EA 7:07:44 PM
Wearing a helmet sounds practical.
Lizbot (host) 7:09:17 PM
@Roffle 0x7EA - I can safely say from new-found experience: industrial goggles/eye protection would be best!
Roffle 0x7EA 7:11:27 PM
As a safety glasses enthusiast, I whole hardheartedly agree.
Lizbot (host) 7:11:47 PM
One guy on a Zulu Krewe float jokingly heard up a huge flatscreen TV box he mimicked throwing! Clever idea! He played it up by clenching a big cigar in his teeth
John Coffey 7:11:50 PM
@lizbot Is it still the long white beads for the gals that... well you know what!
Lizbot (host) 7:12:37 PM
@John Coffey - haha, I expected to see a LOT more of that, but there was very little flashing, yet a lot of long white beads!
John Coffey 7:13:10 PM
Actually, I remember the gals on the balconies would get the requests.
Roffle 0x7EA 7:16:58 PM
The Tachibana High School marching band daoes the best Sing, Sing, Sing version ever, for me. Those girls are off the charts.
Lizbot (host) 7:21:35 PM
@John Coffey - Probably more of that happening in the French Quarter! I was in the Central Business District!
Lizbot (host) 7:22:24 PM
@Roffle 0x7EA - Oh wow, I need to check that out! Good tip! Never heard of them!
Roffle 0x7EA 7:24:16 PM
They are incredible in my book. They always win the top prizes and are heavily involved with Disney. Amazing stuff.
Lizbot (host) 7:28:42 PM
@Roffle 0x7EA - I wrote them down to add to my ever-growing New Orleans collection. Whether theyre from NOLa or not, it counts because they're performing a New Orleans original!
Roffle 0x7EA 7:32:45 PM
They are crafty Japanese girls mostly. :) Kyoto Tachibana Junior and Senior High School in Japan.
Roffle 0x7EA 7:36:09 PM
I just looked at my 'Watch Later' folder. It's gonna take longer than any Netflicks binge ever to get through. lol
Lizbot (host) 7:39:27 PM
@Roffle 0x7EA - Ah! Didn't get a chance to look them up yet, but I added them to my list!
Lizbot (host) 7:40:00 PM
@Roffle 0x7EA - oh man, it would take years to get through my streamer watch lists!
Richard of Rocky Hill 7:42:33 PM
@ Lizbot (host) Thanks SO much for this evening in New Orleans ... and ... especially the tracks featuring the fabulous, "the wildest," singer/trumpeter/showman Louis Prima and his band featuring sax player/arranger Sam Butera (who incidently created Louis' hit medley "Just a Giggilo/I Ain't Got Nobody" (which David Lee Roth totally copied without even a thank-you).
Roffle 0x7EA 7:43:09 PM
Really hoping reincarnation is a thing and that I can bring my playlists with me...
Lizbot (host) 7:46:19 PM
Hi Richard of Rocky Hill!
Lizbot (host) 7:47:13 PM
@Richard of Rocky Hill - No problem, I love playing this music! I'm glad you're enjoying it! Gotta love that incorrigible David Lee Roth!
Alan Parsec 7:49:30 PM
Hey Lizbot!! TYSM for putting some Zing in this Dreary-Ass night! Last two hours been simply Great! take care & bcnu!
Lizbot (host) 7:49:38 PM
Hi Alan Parsec!
Lizbot (host) 7:50:37 PM
@Alan Parsec - Thanks, glad to help out! Yeah, it was nice weather in New Orleans, and then I come back yesterday to fog and rain! But at lest it's no longer downright arctic in Philly like it was when I left for NOLA!
Alan Parsec 7:52:24 PM
Lizbot; during your absence during the Arctic Blast, I was powered by Doritos, Caffeine, and WPRB!!
Number 6 7:54:08 PM
Thanks for the NOLA show, BCNU!
Kathy Ryan 7:54:11 PM
I saw Al Carson at the Funky Pirate in 2010....what a peformance. They had a permanent sign that lit up saying $1 shots during Big Al Carson breaks :D
Lizbot (host) 7:59:07 PM
@Alan Parsec - Glad to hear it!
Lizbot (host) 7:59:21 PM
