Crawford Jock-A-Mo / You, You, You Chess 1953 New Orleans artist who started out on trombone, he formed a band which local DJ Doctor Daddy-O named "The Chapaka Shawee" (Creole for "We Aren’t Raccoons"). Author of the classic "Iko Iko" (initially called "Jockomo") in 1954. Although his song became a standard, Crawford disappeared from public view, and in a 2002 interview, told how his career came to an abrupt halt in 1963 after a severe beating which incapacitated him for two years forcing him to leave the music business.

Last time I was there was for a Stan Brackage even. Many years ago. He was hand painting on 64 mm film. Closed eye vision.

@Lester Wiggs - I saw a Stan Brakhage short film retrospective at Anthology Film Archives in NYC 20 years ago, but I think we're crossing wires because both Anthology and The International House came up in the same conversation in the chat a couple weeks ago, but yes, my parents' reception was in the I-House in its early days

International house is known as 'Brutalist' architecture. Refers to concrete. I was once in the basement of the Roundhouse. a lot of police there. Love these grooves. We reconnect later I think we are two handshakes away.

Mississippi.

Space Camp is down there somewhere too. Alabama or something. I've been to the Huston center. Big ass Saturn 5 Applo rpcket on the lawn...lol

I did the DOE energy tour. We hit all the sites. Rolling over Altomose pass, do you know ten people who will come to your rescue? I love visitors centers. They tell trooofs.

I never went, but the jury is still out about whether my brain actually developed.

@John Coffey - I went to see Rebirth Brass Band, playing right now on the air!, at The Howlin' Wolf during Krewe of Endymion on Saturday night and we all had to wait until Endymion ended before they showed up to play! Saturday was a rowdy night!

@Number 6 - I have it on good authority that Killbot is in sleep mode...for now!

@John Coffey - Bacchus was also wild! That was Sunday. I didn't even do the night parades on Lundi Gras so that I could get up early enough to get a good spot on the grand stands on St. Charles to catch all of Krewe Zulu, bonus: caught all of Krewe of Rex afterwards, but then got stuck on the wrong side of the street during the endless truck parades of Elks and Crescent City. I can do without the truck parades!

@John Coffey - Finally after all of Elks and a little of Crescent City, we and some other revelers broke through the barriers, thanks to a kindly guard who was happy to help us, and we RAN because there was a 16-wheeler heading our way, mercifully not too quickly!

@John Coffey - haha, yes, but I didn't see the NFL player (damned if i remember his name) and there was an actor, a guy I'd heard of but that's it. And then of course Shia LeBeouf was unofficially there, wreaking havoc in The Marigny

I suppose "Mojo Hannah" is traditional. The first version I heard was Larry Williams & Johnny "Guitar" Watson's "Louisiana Hannah".

@Roffle 0x7EA - Oh they just throw them to everyone and then set aside one parade for those particular shenanigans! It's called Krewe of Bosom Buddies!

@Roffle 0x7EA - It's crazy how many "keepsakes" or throws each krewe has! Some throw huge stuffed animals, of course Zulu throws the hand-painted coconuts, a lot throw bubble stuff and various toys, and some are really hard! George caught a 3-foot hard plastic light-up scepter that would have really hurt if it clocked him in the face! I got hit in my left eye by a really solid heavy dense smiley-face ball someone because I wasn't paying attention and taking photos instead!

Wearing a helmet sounds practical.

@Roffle 0x7EA - I can safely say from new-found experience: industrial goggles/eye protection would be best!

As a safety glasses enthusiast, I whole hardheartedly agree.

One guy on a Zulu Krewe float jokingly heard up a huge flatscreen TV box he mimicked throwing! Clever idea! He played it up by clenching a big cigar in his teeth

@lizbot Is it still the long white beads for the gals that... well you know what!

@John Coffey - haha, I expected to see a LOT more of that, but there was very little flashing, yet a lot of long white beads!

Actually, I remember the gals on the balconies would get the requests.

The Tachibana High School marching band daoes the best Sing, Sing, Sing version ever, for me. Those girls are off the charts.

They are incredible in my book. They always win the top prizes and are heavily involved with Disney. Amazing stuff.

@Roffle 0x7EA - I wrote them down to add to my ever-growing New Orleans collection. Whether theyre from NOLa or not, it counts because they're performing a New Orleans original!

They are crafty Japanese girls mostly. :) Kyoto Tachibana Junior and Senior High School in Japan.
