It was a rare original written only for The Chipmunks, as opposed to their usual covers. I saw the movie it was from in 1987, the female "Chipettes" are diamond smugglers (using a hot-air balloon, natch!) and the "Diamond Dolls" of the song's chorus refers to them

@Randy Marthins - haha, yeah the history of The Chipmunks is pretty crazy. It was a family endeavor. The guy who started it and recorded the original songs and covers, Ross Bagdasarian, went by the stage name "David Seville," and he IS the character of "Dave" in the cartoons, the caretaker/"manager" of The Chipmunks. He wrote that novelty song "The Witch Doctor" before The Chipmunks. You have almost definitely heard it!

David Seville's 1958 hit novelty song "Witch Doctor" funded his Chipmunks project! If you don't recognize the title, it's this!: "I told the witch doctor I was in love with you I told the witch doctor I was in love with you / And then the witch doctor, he told me what to do. He said that, "Ooh eeh, ooh aah aah Ting tang wallawalla bingbang Ooh eeh, ooh aah aah Ting tang wallawalla bang bang"

OK Liz, you made me look up the original Bette Davis eyes Donna Weiss who wrote with Jacky DeShannon. I like Jacky DeShannon, but I don't like that version. The Kim Carnes version smokes it in the same way Sinéad O'Connor's version of Nothing Compares to U blows away Prince's original version

THEN his son took over the role if "Dave" after Ross Bagdasarian AKA David Seville died

In the early days of Naster, I think it was was the first time I heard Prince's version of that song. I thought oh boy this is gonna be great. And it was kind of bland. Nothing against it just was nothing special. Sinead's version was as perfect as a song could ever be. The arrangement. Everything.

David Seville had a less successful one called "The Bird On My Head" in 1959, and the chorus is something like "I'm just sitting in a vacant lot with a bird on my head" and then he does the "chipmunk voice," pre-Chipmunks-fame, as "the bird" lamenting that it "should be in a tree"

It is not disguised as one, but it can be I suppose. I take it you aren't familiar with Ollama or LM Studio. An AI agent is the thingy you ask questions when you use AI. It's behind the cursor you type into. You can make them bark like a dog or whatever. They can have any personality you want to take the time to put into them. Quite cool.

@Roffle 0x7EA - Despite being a Lizbot, I leave AI alone for the most part. I know these days it's pretty hard to avoid, but I resent those AI-generated videos that pop up on various social media sites and YouTube and look...off. Uncanny valley feeling to them!

I highly recommend downloading LM Studio if your computer is up to it. You will have a ball Lizbot, probably more than most. :)

@Roffle 0x7EA - I mean that sounds tempting for something like making station IDs, but I currently use the old-fashioned mode of making audio collage in Logic Pro

I too hate the AI garbage out there. But it does not have to be that at all.

@Roffle 0x7EA - One thing I admit I DO use AI for is the "Lily" feature in Duolingo because I think it's important to practice spoken French, not just do word exercises on the screen. However, she has been glitching out a lot lately!

A friend of mine from the Philly club days, Nancy Barile, was married to songwriter/guitarist for Boston hardcore band SSD until he passed away suddenly last year Whenever she uses his name, she capitalizes his first name, AL, so it doesn’t look like or get tagged as “AI”

I like analog DAW's myself, but this is another thing entirely. LM Studio is not about music or editing.

Best AI i have seen/ heard was a commercial during a cookout..they complimented the hostess and she said AI did it all..then they show Iverson manning the grill and handing out drinks..don’t remember what the ad was for!!

AI is unethical for so many reasons. Whether or not it has any legit use aside, it is using an INSANE amount of resources and putting the burden on already hard hit and underprivileged areas.

@Roffle 0x7EA - Ehhh, yeah I think AI was adopted far too quickly and I am not loving the results so far! A lot of programmers and researchers who worked on early AI models have been sounding the alarm that it's been too swiftly adopted

AI has no rules. It just pulls answers out of the libraries it was given. Human corruption will exploit it just like everything else.

@Randy Marthins / @Roffle 0x7EA / @Ears - I knew a guy (he has since passed) who did the voices for many Halloween animatronic figures! He was a stage actor but got into recording for animatronics like spooky ghouls and whatnot and wound up getting a lot of gigs doing that!

@Randy Marthins - Horror show host John Zacherle, "The Cool Ghoul" AKA "Roland", grew up near my neighborhood. I love his novelty songs and deep ghoulish voice. I always wished I'd interviewed him before he died. He nearly made it to 100

They opened for Mogwai and blew me away! They ended up having no where to stay that night and wound up sleeping in my friend's apartment!

@michael gudgeon - Saw a lot of good shows there, but I miss The Trocadero more! Loved getting food at Kingdom of Vegetarians, New Harmony or Charles Plaza before shows and then hanging in the Balcony Bar!
