Rob from snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 6:15:45 PM
And hi John and Patrick
Patrick White 6:19:49 PM
I only went out once today to buy the NY Sunday papers at the local 7 -11. I was little later than usual and thanked the manager for saving for me. She said we only get one copy of each .You’re the only person that buys them. How we have fallen as a country!!
Pengy 6:23:55 PM
Still, I can't help but love that in times of struggle, communities hold tighter with little acts of kindness.
Patrick White 6:24:25 PM
Greetings to Rob MD. Glad I didn’t take a winter jaunt to Myrtle Beach
Roffle 0x7EA 6:25:13 PM
Lovely piece
Patrick White 6:25:34 PM
The Grammys and myself both born in 1959. I have never watched once. One of my proudest accomplishments
Pengy 6:26:05 PM
Stream issue?
Rob from snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 6:26:13 PM
10-20 seconds of silence right now
Rob from snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 6:26:25 PM
More like 30
Roffle 0x7EA 6:26:30 PM
Glad no one has to climb the tower at least.
Patrick White 6:27:17 PM
This is the Grammy nominated Marcel Marceau album
Rob from snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 6:27:23 PM
Patrick, wow. And yes, Myrtle Beach is cold as f*, especially for them
Rob from snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 6:28:00 PM
*wow = you are the only newspaper buyer
Roffle 0x7EA 6:28:05 PM
This looks like a job for Funky Drummer. lol Is he off for the holiday?
Rob from snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 6:28:23 PM
@Roffle, let's hope no one has to climb the tower
Rob from snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 6:28:56 PM
@Roffle, Funky Drummer is iced in and can't make it over to the Barge/home studio ;-)
Roffle 0x7EA 6:29:57 PM
Ah yes. Those away team issues.
Patrick White 6:30:01 PM
Was going to head out to the Chris Smither/Loudon Wainwright concert in West Phila tonight . The ice dissuaded me. And the $110 tickets.
Patrick White 6:30:45 PM
Roffle knows his WIRE quotes!
Roffle 0x7EA 6:32:27 PM
Costs less than a Wainwright ticket, I'll tell ya that much.
Patrick White 6:35:58 PM
I understand the artists don’t make any money from recordings now but it seems a bit onerous.
Pengy 6:39:52 PM
Also, happy full moon tonight everyone.
Roffle 0x7EA 6:39:55 PM
Yeah, 250 bucks is not unusual for way too many "Artists".
Patrick White 6:40:47 PM
Thanks Pengy I will take a look . From inside the house.
Patrick White 6:43:33 PM
I would often attend low priced Sunday night folk shows at ST MARYS on the UPENN campus. Before I went in I would record John’s show on a cassette tape on my portable radio. A true loyal MYCHOR fan
Roffle 0x7EA 6:46:54 PM
When dinosaurs walked the earth?
Pengy 6:48:45 PM
Is this song a reference to Patrick being the only reader of newspaper in his area?
Patrick White 6:49:02 PM
Yes I once got a ticket there . It was dinosaur only parking area.
Patrick White 6:50:11 PM
They should play this when I walk in the 7-11
Michael from Frenchtown 6:51:42 PM
It’s not rare for US cities to have no print newspapers any more. This Tom Paxton and John McCutcheon song makes me think of Tom Paxton’s Daily News.
Patrick White 6:51:57 PM
Sadly Pengy lives in a major metropolitan city estimated to be 60% functionally illiterate
Roffle 0x7EA 6:52:53 PM
So... Above average?
Patrick White 6:53:54 PM
Sorry Pengy meant to say I live in a metropolitan area!
Patrick White 6:55:38 PM
The oligarchs convinced mainstream society that newspapers were not needed so they can do their deeds in darkness. One even bought the Washington Post and destroyed it.
Patrick White 6:58:30 PM
Nice to see Mavis Staples nominated for some awards and PRB favorites Sun Ra
Pengy 6:59:55 PM
I was catching up in chat and was going, "Hey, I knew we cut funding to the library but I figure things weren't that bad yet"
Patrick White 7:01:57 PM
Not a Bad Bunny or Green Day fan but so happy to see all the facial heads exploding at their Super Bowl half time show next week
Patrick White 7:18:01 PM
They had to retire the polka category because Jimmy Sturr kept winning every year.
David Shortell 7:18:40 PM
I've had Nico's first LP since before its CD reissue, but I forgot Jackson Browne wrote that song. "The Royal Tennenbaums" gave it some belated fame, followed by use in a televised car commercial.
Patrick White 7:22:35 PM
I hate music bio pix but that NICO 1988 movie was great viewing. Not your atypical formulatic go through the motions where’s my Oscar?
David Shortell 7:28:04 PM
Was that a documentary rather than a biodrama? Then I saw it at the Film Forum. I think the only actress to ever play Nico was Christina Fulton in Oliver Stone's "The Doors".
Patrick White 7:32:29 PM
It was a regular movie
Rob from snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 7:33:14 PM
@John Weingart, I just had like 3 minutes of silence
Patrick White 7:33:46 PM
It was an Italian/Belgian production. Very wigged out but entertaining
Patrick White 7:34:09 PM
The song that ended the Smothers Brothers Show.
Patrick White 7:42:59 PM
Nice to hear from Maria Muldaur. Her ex husband Geoff Muldaur was the last interviewee on Music You Can’t hear. I believe
Patrick White 7:46:41 PM
Anyone wants to tune in later on I believe John is taking over the Rap Show after Phil left.
Patrick White 7:53:01 PM
Thanks to John . Looking forward to next weeks Folk Super Bowl Spectacular. Everyone have a great week and be careful navigating the ice.
David Shortell 7:54:13 PM
I somehow missed “Nico 1988” in 2017. I read that Trine Dyrholm starred as Nico. The documentary I saw at the Film Forum in 1995 was “Nico Icon”.
Amy Lee 7:56:21 PM
Thanks!
