Lizbot (host) 3:03:53 PM
Hi Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀!
Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 3:04:03 PM
"There's a blizard coming on, how I'm wishing I was home/ For my pony's lame, and he can hardly stand/ Listen to that norther sigh, if we don't get home we'll die/ But, it's only seven miles to" WPRB
Lizbot (host) 3:04:18 PM
@Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 - Mmm, snow-crabs. I don't want to ear them but I DO want to watch them march with their claws akimbo
Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 3:04:32 PM
h/t The Blizzard by Jim Reeves, Camera Obscura, etc
Lizbot (host) 3:05:08 PM
@Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 - That could be a station ID!
Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 3:05:18 PM
Snow crabs, heck yeah!
Lizbot (host) 3:06:11 PM
@Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 - How were your totals in Maryland??
Lizbot (host) 3:07:46 PM
I heard a very loud CLUNK earlier today and thought the snow caused a chunk of my roof to fall off!
Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 3:08:30 PM
@Lizbot (host), I dunno. I think on our block we had 6 or 5 inches before the sleet started. How much snow did you get?
Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 3:09:15 PM
Uh oh. Hopefully your roof is intact.
Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 3:09:50 PM
CLUNKcore, the music of ice storms, to paraphrase a convo that Agent Emi, TAndy, and I were having during the last show
Lizbot (host) 3:10:03 PM
@Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 - I think it is upon quick inspection! I'm sure it was an icicle falling off the gutters. I'm always shocked at how loud those are!
Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 3:10:05 PM
(crunkcore is what we were discussing)
Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 3:10:54 PM
I hope that your roof is intact!
Lizbot (host) 3:12:00 PM
@Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 - We got about 12"! Sleet never came here, at least not in my corner of Philly. Some of our snowdrifts are over 2'!
Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 3:12:15 PM
Lazy Snowline Predictor Jane, the new Belle and Sebastian rewrite
Lizbot (host) 3:12:36 PM
@Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 - Ha!
Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 3:13:06 PM
Honestly, better all snow than a snow-sleet mix. Shoveling is a lot harder with the latter!!
Lizbot (host) 3:13:24 PM
@Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 - "a dose of [frostbite] you got while licking metal railings"
Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 3:13:33 PM
Our snow drifted too, right up to under the front of our cars.
Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 3:13:46 PM
@Lizbot, really!!!!
Lizbot (host) 3:14:35 PM
@Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 - My car is still pretty crusted with ice. Snow is cleared off it, but I need to sit in it and run the defroster for a bit to loosen some of that danged ice
Lizbot (host) 3:17:10 PM
Unfortunately, being holed up with my cold/flu-afflicted kid has resulted in me contracting it, but I'm just starting to get sick today, so I'm groggy and achey and expect tomorrow will be baaaad.
Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 3:19:42 PM
The townhouse snow removal service was here from like 8 or 9 to past 11 last night. All the parking lots were cleared, so my wife and I were able this morning to clear off both our cars by moving them from our spaces to the driveway area. Of course we had to clean our windshields first. Anyhoo, we are ready to go ... once our street is plowed
Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 3:22:37 PM
Oh no, I hope you don't become too sick, and your kid recovers soon, and George doesn't come down with it!
Lizbot (host) 3:24:02 PM
@Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 - I live on a side street that is only two blocks long, so the city's plows always overlook us!
Lizbot (host) 3:25:50 PM
@Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 - George has a ridiculously good immune system that I am jealous of! He DID get the flu, as did I at the same time, last January, but he hasn't been sick since and he's somehow never gotten Covid, whereas both Hattie and I had it twice. He was in her room more during this snowy weekend, helping her study for midterms, and yet it skipped over him and hopped right to me!
John Coffey 3:26:35 PM
Hi Lizbot and fellow chatters. All tuned in and occasionally getting disrupted audio from the ice packs crashing of my mansard roof.
Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 3:26:52 PM
Lizbot, Flu Magnet feat.: Hattie and George
Lizbot (host) 3:26:58 PM
Hi John Coffey!
Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 3:27:09 PM
Hi John!
Lizbot (host) 3:28:18 PM
@John Coffey - That's exactly what startled me earlier today! I have a mansard roof and either a snow pack melting in this sun we have today, or one of the big chunky icicles hanging from our gutters, fell and was SO loud!
Lizbot (host) 3:28:53 PM
@Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 - I swear George should be studying. His immune system is ironclad.
Bud Burroughs 3:29:11 PM
Excellent show Lizbot! For some reason, my wife and I rarely get each others illnesses. The good think about that is that usually only one of us is sick at a time.
John Coffey 3:29:35 PM
Hi Rob, waiting on next above 40 degree day to visit Eastern Shore and hopefully see the frozen creeks and harbors on the Chesapeake Bay.
Lizbot (host) 3:29:56 PM
@Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 - Maybe it's from years of walking around Philly barefoot like a weirdo when in his teens, picking up every pathogen known to man and building up immunity to it!
Lizbot (host) 3:30:03 PM
Hi Bud Burroughs!
Lizbot (host) 3:30:55 PM
@Bud Burroughs - Yes! That IS handy, especially for us having at least one be well to drive the kid places and whatnot!
Lucy Catemoji 3:32:20 PM
anco !!!!! <3
Lizbot (host) 3:32:32 PM
@John Coffey - I haven't checked out the Wissahickon Creek near my home yet because I was pretty holed up this weekend, but I bet it's pretty right now, and the Schuylkill water level is probably gonna rise very high when all this melts!
Lizbot (host) 3:32:40 PM
Hi Lucy Catemoji!!
Lizbot (host) 3:32:57 PM
@Lucy Catemoji - Love me some Animal Collective!
michael gudgeon 3:34:13 PM
yeeeeee anco!
Lizbot (host) 3:35:07 PM
@Lucy Catemoji - A band I've seen live in many different eras of their existence. I saw them at Other Music in 2004, tiny in-store performance with a handful of people, and I've seen them in huge venues like the The Mann!
Lizbot (host) 3:35:38 PM
Hi Michael gudgeon! Snowy Weather Post-Pavilion!
John Coffey 3:38:49 PM
@Liz, just started an HBO show Dual Survivors and one of the dudes walks barefoot in sub freezing temps for years. He rambles about how the mitochondria adjust so can adapt to cold climate survival. Maybe George is onto something.
Lizbot (host) 3:41:06 PM
@John Coffey - Hmmm, yeah George & that guy should start a survivalist colony!
Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 3:42:36 PM
Hi John, hopefully a 40 degree day will come soon!
Lizbot (host) 3:43:25 PM
@John Coffey - Counterpoint: There was a time when George was in his early 20s and STILL going barefoot around Center City, and we encountered a section of Market Street where the asphalt was so hot and melty, I literally had to pick him up to cross the street! We still joke that I "carried him across the threshold"
Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 3:44:07 PM
@Lizbot, George's behavior could very well have strengthened his immune system
Lizbot (host) 3:44:08 PM
@Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 - I NEED some melting here! On the other hand, my white fluffy dog will be a dark brown mud-dog once this thaws!
Lizbot (host) 3:44:44 PM
@Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 - Probably! But eventually he got a gross thing stuck in his foot and curtailed that behavior!
TAndy 3:45:16 PM
What up Lizbot!
Lizbot (host) 3:45:22 PM
@Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 - You'd expect it would be a shard of broken glass bottle of something like that, but NO. It was this freaky thing with like tendrils!
Lizbot (host) 3:46:02 PM
Hello TAndy! How're you liking the snows, if you indeed got snows?
John Coffey 3:46:08 PM
I was barefoot all my summers in Avalon, I also never get sick. Covid felt like a cold.
Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 3:48:51 PM
@Lizbot, a freaky thing with tendrils? *Backs away slowly*
Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 3:49:17 PM
@Lizbot & John Coffey, since you asked ;-), the latest run of the American/GFS weather model as mapped at Pivotal Weather dot com does NOT show any 40 degree days through Tuesday February 10. Now that is a cold spell
Lizbot (host) 3:51:27 PM
@John Coffey - Yeah, but does the shore even count?? I can safely say I'm barefoot 90% of the time I'm down the shore!
TAndy 3:52:19 PM
I don't want anymore snow this winter haha
Lizbot (host) 3:53:08 PM
@Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 - Yeah, I have NEVER forgotten it. I'm convinced it was an alien lifeform. I was always warning him that one day he'd cut his foot badly on glass or other sharp litter in the street, but THIS was ultimately the critter that crossed a line and ended his barefoot days!
John Coffey 3:53:17 PM
@rob, the longer it takes, the more frozen the bay gets. I only get to witness every 6-8 years. I’ll go down regardless of weather temp if streets aren’t drivable. Maybe this weekend.
Lizbot (host) 3:53:51 PM
@TAndy - Yeah, I'm done. And it's only January! I was supposed to tour colleges with my teen multiple weekend outdoor tours that got snowed out!
Lizbot (host) 3:54:44 PM
@Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 - Yeah, we have several single digit lows days coming up here in Philly this week! UGH. Dog still needs walking, though!
Lizbot (host) 3:57:16 PM
@Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 - Maybe, as Jonathan Richman just sang, the foot critter was a "dirty marshmallow with fangs"! I can tell you, it definitely had fangs!
Lizbot (host) 4:03:58 PM
@John Coffey - On Princeton's campus is Lake Carnegie, a long manmade lake that looks more like a river that the rowing teams compete on. Every few years it freezes over and people skate on it, which is fun to watch, though I will not be joining them!
Mats Sabbath 4:18:45 PM
FROST HAMMER - High On Fire
Lizbot (host) 4:19:40 PM
Hi Mats Sabbath!
Mats Sabbath 4:22:16 PM
Wprb tru da blizzahds!
Lizbot (host) 4:22:19 PM
@Mats Sabbath - I DID consider Snowblind by Ozzy, and also maybe even Black Winter Night by Dragonforce, but the playlist hasn't been going in that direction today! I did pull both those songs, though!
Lizbot (host) 4:23:07 PM
@Mats Sabbath - Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these DJs from the swift completion of their appointed shows!
Mats Sabbath 4:25:09 PM
you gotta play Snowblind! Sacred duty. For Ozzy!
Mats Sabbath 4:25:34 PM
Lovin these rawboned wintry songs dj!
Lizbot (host) 4:26:03 PM
@Mats Sabbath - True...It IS tempting...Were I on another hour, maybe!
Lizbot (host) 4:26:10 PM
@Mats Sabbath - Thanks!
Lizbot (host) 4:27:06 PM
I love that line!: "We made the Cramps sound orchestral. That's an achievement, I guess As for rehearsal, We made the Shaggs sound like Yes"
Mats Sabbath 4:27:18 PM
awwww just saw Purple Mtns. RIP David B.
Mats Sabbath 4:28:13 PM
Cramps deserve a full orchestra treatment, and I know a composer/conductor.
Mats Sabbath 4:28:39 PM
Cramps On Ice, only from Disney
Lizbot (host) 4:29:13 PM
@Mats Sabbath - That final album is brilliant but devastating. "All My Happiness Is Gone" is this utter banger of a gorgeous pop song, but so freaking sad. Same with She's Making Friends, I'm Turning Stranger
Mats Sabbath 4:30:13 PM
I think I taught a song from Purple Mtns when I taught English. Hazy memory. That song, too.
John Coffey 4:30:39 PM
True day @ Liz, barefoot on Jersey beach towns is a safe space compared to Philly streets.
John Coffey 4:31:03 PM
True dat!
Lizbot (host) 4:31:54 PM
@Mats Sabbath - Lyrically perfect song. Musically perfect too. Damn, David Berman. So talented but so pained.
Lizbot (host) 4:32:58 PM
@John Coffey - I think it's criminal to wear sneakers down the shore! They may throw you in the bay, but I don't know, I've never tried. Shoes off the second I get there. Flip-Flops for hot sand and pizza joints, that's it!
Lizbot (host) 4:47:09 PM
@Mats Sabbath - That's a cool English teacher who teaches Purple Mountains lyrics! My English teacher only taught us Janis Ian's "At 17" and Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now," the latter of which I still have memorized all these decades later
Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 4:50:48 PM
HI Lizbot and John Coffey, just in from helping someone driving down our unplowed side street get unstuck
michael gudgeon 4:50:54 PM
sets been so great liz!
Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 4:51:41 PM
My wife and I shoveled around and in front of all their tires. They straightened out and finally made it to the plowed road 1.5 blocks away
Lizbot (host) 4:51:49 PM
@Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 - Yikes! Good thing you were there to help!
Lizbot (host) 4:52:17 PM
@Michael gudgeon - Thanks so much, I'm glad you're enjoying it!
Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 4:53:29 PM
Lizbot weird about the thing in his foot. John the upper bay should really be frozen soon. As should the Potomac River inside the beltway
Lizbot (host) 4:53:38 PM
@Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 - Oof. That's what I'm worried about. Our block never gets plowed and George & Hattie are out in his old Prius that does not handle snow well!
John Coffey 4:54:15 PM
Thank you for XTC! I didn't need to request it but happy for any of today
Lizbot (host) 4:54:15 PM
@Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 - I extracted that thing in his foot and I wish I'd saved the specimen for scientific study!
Lizbot (host) 4:54:34 PM
@John Coffey - Always happy to play XTC on the airwaves!
Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 4:54:36 PM
Libzot I just happened to be looking out the front window and I could see that they were stuck
John Coffey 4:54:46 PM

Lizbot (host) 4:55:11 PM
@Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 - Phew!
Lizbot (host) 4:55:22 PM
@John Coffey - I love this song and haven't played it in a while!
Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 4:56:29 PM
Lizbot your dog is so adorable in that pic!
Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 4:56:52 PM
Thanks Lizbot for all the snow songs!
Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 4:57:23 PM
Bye everyone, stay warm and drive safely whenever you are able to drive
Lizbot (host) 4:57:31 PM
@Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 - She LIVES for snow! She would not mind being left out in the cold, but she prefers us there with her!
John Coffey 4:57:43 PM
My XTC is your Sparks! Chat on Thursday.
Lizbot (host) 4:58:33 PM
@Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 - That photo is mid-yawn and from a few years ago. I took a bunch of photos of her in this snow, but none turned out un-blurry. She was a flash of running and rolling in the snow! I did get good videos of that!
Lizbot (host) 4:58:55 PM
@John Coffey - Thanks for hanging! See you here Thursday!
