I heard a very loud CLUNK earlier today and thought the snow caused a chunk of my roof to fall off!

@Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 - My car is still pretty crusted with ice. Snow is cleared off it, but I need to sit in it and run the defroster for a bit to loosen some of that danged ice

Unfortunately, being holed up with my cold/flu-afflicted kid has resulted in me contracting it, but I'm just starting to get sick today, so I'm groggy and achey and expect tomorrow will be baaaad.

The townhouse snow removal service was here from like 8 or 9 to past 11 last night. All the parking lots were cleared, so my wife and I were able this morning to clear off both our cars by moving them from our spaces to the driveway area. Of course we had to clean our windshields first. Anyhoo, we are ready to go ... once our street is plowed

Oh no, I hope you don't become too sick, and your kid recovers soon, and George doesn't come down with it!

@Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 - George has a ridiculously good immune system that I am jealous of! He DID get the flu, as did I at the same time, last January, but he hasn't been sick since and he's somehow never gotten Covid, whereas both Hattie and I had it twice. He was in her room more during this snowy weekend, helping her study for midterms, and yet it skipped over him and hopped right to me!

@John Coffey - That's exactly what startled me earlier today! I have a mansard roof and either a snow pack melting in this sun we have today, or one of the big chunky icicles hanging from our gutters, fell and was SO loud!

@Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 - I swear George should be studying. His immune system is ironclad.

Excellent show Lizbot! For some reason, my wife and I rarely get each others illnesses. The good think about that is that usually only one of us is sick at a time.

Hi Rob, waiting on next above 40 degree day to visit Eastern Shore and hopefully see the frozen creeks and harbors on the Chesapeake Bay.

@Liz, just started an HBO show Dual Survivors and one of the dudes walks barefoot in sub freezing temps for years. He rambles about how the mitochondria adjust so can adapt to cold climate survival. Maybe George is onto something.

@John Coffey - Hmmm, yeah George & that guy should start a survivalist colony!

@John Coffey - Counterpoint: There was a time when George was in his early 20s and STILL going barefoot around Center City, and we encountered a section of Market Street where the asphalt was so hot and melty, I literally had to pick him up to cross the street! We still joke that I "carried him across the threshold"

I was barefoot all my summers in Avalon, I also never get sick. Covid felt like a cold.

@Lizbot & John Coffey, since you asked ;-), the latest run of the American/GFS weather model as mapped at Pivotal Weather dot com does NOT show any 40 degree days through Tuesday February 10. Now that is a cold spell

@John Coffey - Yeah, but does the shore even count?? I can safely say I'm barefoot 90% of the time I'm down the shore!

I don't want anymore snow this winter haha

@Rob from Snow-encrusted Maryland 🦀 - Yeah, I have NEVER forgotten it. I'm convinced it was an alien lifeform. I was always warning him that one day he'd cut his foot badly on glass or other sharp litter in the street, but THIS was ultimately the critter that crossed a line and ended his barefoot days!

@rob, the longer it takes, the more frozen the bay gets. I only get to witness every 6-8 years. I’ll go down regardless of weather temp if streets aren’t drivable. Maybe this weekend.

@TAndy - Yeah, I'm done. And it's only January! I was supposed to tour colleges with my teen multiple weekend outdoor tours that got snowed out!

@John Coffey - On Princeton's campus is Lake Carnegie, a long manmade lake that looks more like a river that the rowing teams compete on. Every few years it freezes over and people skate on it, which is fun to watch, though I will not be joining them!

@John Coffey - I think it's criminal to wear sneakers down the shore! They may throw you in the bay, but I don't know, I've never tried. Shoes off the second I get there. Flip-Flops for hot sand and pizza joints, that's it!

@Mats Sabbath - That's a cool English teacher who teaches Purple Mountains lyrics! My English teacher only taught us Janis Ian's "At 17" and Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now," the latter of which I still have memorized all these decades later

My wife and I shoveled around and in front of all their tires. They straightened out and finally made it to the plowed road 1.5 blocks away
