Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:03:22 PM
Mike, who are the brothers?
Mike Constantine 12:04:04 PM
Jerry and Jimmy Vivino
Mike Constantine 12:04:48 PM
Jimmy was in Conan's band and member of the Fab Faux
Patrick White 12:06:01 PM
He had a stroke 2 years ago and never really recovered. His last couple podcasts you could tell he was really struggling
Brian D 12:08:06 PM
I think Jerry Vivino was in the Conan band as well as Jimmy
Richard Mitnick 12:08:20 PM
Hey Jerry. Happy snow.I have been clicked in. Happy to have you in my digiteria. I hope you have a great show.
Patrick White 12:09:31 PM
Fond memory of him settling a frivolous lawsuit by that nebbish Joe Franklin over his Franklin Joseph parody. He agreed to cease doing it. Three weeks later he did a Joe Frankfurter parody
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:10:11 PM
Haha, nebbish, YES!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:10:56 PM
Thank you, Richard. I hope we con't get digitized!
Ossy 12:13:22 PM
Afternoon Jerry!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:14:27 PM
Never knew this! What were the years of his show?
Tomi 12:15:45 PM
loving this track Jerry. Darren Korb surely was influenced by this for Hades.
Mike Constantine 12:16:11 PM
Early 80's I think
Patrick White 12:16:37 PM
Shout out to former DJ Emmanuel de ferritis who always played Oregon on his shows
Tomi 12:17:12 PM

Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:18:25 PM
Hi Tomi, thanks for being here! I will have to listen to Hades!
Patrick White 12:18:34 PM
Floyd and I had a running gag at his annual Bordentown record store shows. He would point me out to the owners and say … Watch that Guy he’s putting CDS in his winter coat!!!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:22:38 PM
He thought you were another Ian Dury
Mike Constantine 12:22:52 PM
Ha!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:23:07 PM
Tomi, we will be playing Oregon later
Patrick White 12:24:00 PM

Roffle 0x7EA 12:26:43 PM
Hi Jerry! I really like that last Towner piece, and this one is really going somewhere nice. And all before I've even had coffee yet!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:27:34 PM
It is your years of training for cosmic consciousness! You don't need coffee right away to get off!
Roffle 0x7EA 12:29:36 PM
True enough, but it sure helps/
vildachaya1 12:34:05 PM
Hi there friends - I hope everyone is well. Timeless... what a classic... Jack DeJohnette ... we'd float away to this one ... uh oh ... here we go again - floating ... floating...
Patrick White 12:34:31 PM
50 years ago this weekend a plethora of local entertainment options. …Kenny Rankin,Grover Washington JR , the Miracles,Jerry Butler,Anna Maria Alberghetti, the ubiquitous Johnnys Dance Band,Billy Paul with MFSB,Ramsey Lewis,Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes,Zoot Sims with Urbie Green Shirley Scott..at Charlie’s Playboy Lounge on Market street
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:35:09 PM

Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:36:27 PM
Some great shows there, would have liked to see Kenny Rankin and Jerry Butler
vildachaya1 12:37:09 PM
I see Patrick already mentioned Uncle Floyd - Gosh I loved that little TV show - Looney Skip Rooney was a DJ on a small station in NJ my brother worked on -
Patrick White 12:39:03 PM
Floyd was a big man on campus at Bottom Line. One time Bowie came backstage before a show and Floyd shooed him and everyone away. Bowie loved it . He said nobody ever did that to me. He wrote a great song about Floyd and Oogie
Patrick White 12:43:54 PM
Shout out to PRB dj Phil Jackson a true Rap Giant. His last show will be this weekend after 15 years. He won awards for his Side B program.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:45:34 PM
A good man Phil Jackson! Did a great show, what a pro
Patrick White 12:48:14 PM
Always would give a nice shoutout to John Weingart when he preceded his program. A powerhouse Sunday night Trio. PHIL, JOHN AND The worried Waltz..
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:48:43 PM
Yes. Amazing.
Patrick White 12:52:35 PM
No Oregon based group played better together except maybe The 1977 Portland Trail Blazers.
Roffle 0x7EA 12:55:06 PM
This build up to the drop is sweet
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:56:04 PM
Mingus's classic
Chris M 12:56:13 PM
Excellent feature again Jerry. Was great to hear "Oceanus" again. "Solstice" Avery influential album for me.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:58:29 PM
Hi Chris. Interesting to hear that! Your band Twilight Archive is so good, now I find out about some more of it's strong roots
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:59:03 PM
ROFL another good one here
Russell Woessner 12:59:15 PM
There is a live recording of Ralph Towner & Gary Burton from 1989 at Penn’s Landing: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YgBOC5recbM
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:59:51 PM

Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:00:05 PM
Rick, what do you think?
Brian D 1:00:18 PM
Bassist Curtis Counce was born 100 years ago today
rick hallahan 1:00:39 PM
Jerry, this is good music!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:01:28 PM
Curtis Counce, jazzy as you wanna be
Roffle 0x7EA 1:02:04 PM
Russ! Curator of fine gems!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:02:31 PM
He is the universal curator
Patrick White 1:05:32 PM
Thanks Russ . Those free Penns Landing shows were great. Nevermore. They are building condos for the beautiful shiny people now. They won’t allow concerts there
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:06:21 PM
Ha, shiny people!
Mike Constantine 1:06:31 PM
They were great.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:07:01 PM
Mike, thanks for hanging in
Mike Constantine 1:07:49 PM
Still alive and well!
Richard of Rocky Hill 1:08:14 PM
@ Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) Tremendous tributes to marvelous musicians. Thank you.
Roffle 0x7EA 1:08:40 PM
They are building that thing now so people can enjoy a park over the freeway with free exhaust.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:08:40 PM
Thanks very much, Richard, great to hear from you.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:09:23 PM

Stephen Higgins 1:09:45 PM
Hi all, great tribute to a great musician.
Mike Constantine 1:10:13 PM
How about the way those door slide into the quarter panel
Mike Constantine 1:12:47 PM
Many a night sliding into Sleepy Hollow from Stars End
Stephen Higgins 1:13:05 PM
Sleepy Hollow is still on XPN, Sat and Sun morning’s.
Patrick White 1:13:39 PM
Sleepy Hollow still on but a pale imitation of the Russ Era. They actually play Phish. Russ is still Big. Sleepy Hollow got small
Roffle 0x7EA 1:13:54 PM
@Mike C. Best hangover show on the planet at the time. lol
sean burns 1:14:05 PM
Icarus, produced by George Martin
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:14:23 PM
Hi Stephen! Thanks for tuning in once again, glad you are digging the music
Mike Constantine 1:14:51 PM
Right Rof??
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:15:12 PM
Hi Sean, I didn't know that"!
Russell Woessner 1:15:39 PM
I am having a flashback!
Stephen Higgins 1:15:48 PM
It’s improved now that Joey Sweeney has come on board to DJ. Admittedly, it has gotten a bit stale and repetitive.
vildachaya1 1:15:50 PM
@Russell, I only now realized I listened to your radio shows. Of Course you'd be a regular here and it explains why you know so damn much :)
Roffle 0x7EA 1:16:19 PM
Now they play sleepy sweet music and hit you with an ad disguised as a PSA at top levels to send that sleepy vibe straight to the toilet.
Russell Woessner 1:16:51 PM
Thanks, Patrick and vildachaya1!
sean burns 1:17:04 PM
The tributes to Ralph Towner bring back memories of wprb in the 1970s, when fusion jazz Rock and the ECM type artists abounded on wprb
vildachaya1 1:17:34 PM
If it was on ECM or Pablo it was probably a good jazz record
Tomi 1:17:36 PM
oh Distant Hills gets me every time
sean burns 1:17:45 PM
It was wprb that introduced me, as a mere youth, to weather report Chick corea Oregon and so many more groups at the time
Mike Constantine 1:17:57 PM
I didn't discover WPRB until 1978
vildachaya1 1:18:04 PM
Or Evidence Records of course - that was the best label of them all
rick hallahan 1:19:29 PM
I heard Jerry Gordon on WPRB while in my car one day - and I've been a listener ever since.
Patrick White 1:19:42 PM
My only PRB 1970s memory is they aired the 1973 NY Mets. I missed a lot . I wonder who the DJS were. Shame that PRB has so historical web site
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:19:48 PM
This chat can be a rough crowd!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:20:06 PM
Thanks, Sean for that information!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:20:39 PM
Tomi, glad you're still llistening!
Tomi 1:21:28 PM
of course Jerry, had to keep listening, good set!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:21:38 PM
ROFL may be c osmically concious but look out for his left hook!
Roffle 0x7EA 1:21:51 PM
@Patrick, I walked past the student center back in the day and saw the studio, but it was decades before I listened. LOL
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:22:16 PM
Nice! Thanks, Rick. Glad I didn't scare you away!
Russell Woessner 1:22:18 PM
I interviewed the members of Oregon when they played at the Main Point in Bryn Mawr. Sat around a table and put the cassette recorder in the middle with the microphone on top of the recorder. Had a nice, wide-ranging discussion. When I played back the tape, all I heard was the sound of the tape recorder’s motor. Rookie mistake!
Tomi 1:22:41 PM
russell noooooooo
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:22:56 PM
And Vilda, thasnk you. I am playing several great tracks today in Jerry's Room from Evidence. Youo will be surprised.
Patrick White 1:23:28 PM
Russ that blank tape much more entertaining than the David Dye show.
Russell Woessner 1:24:13 PM
No argument from me about that, Patrick!
Roffle 0x7EA 1:28:12 PM
Talk about snatched from ones own grasp.
Roffle 0x7EA 1:29:47 PM
I might shed a few tears over that one.
Patrick White 1:37:39 PM
Russ checking the archives looks like that main point show was May 1980. The inquirer did mention Local Boob screws up Oregon interview
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:38:40 PM
Haha
Patrick White 1:39:19 PM
I also see an effusive Jack Lloyd review of a 1979 bijou performance. tom moon in in 1991 praises their show at a sadly nearly empty Glassboro State university show.
rick hallahan 1:39:34 PM
Patrick, you continue to impress with your comedic view!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:40:13 PM
Jack Lloyd, mensch
Patrick White 1:41:49 PM
Nels Nelson always repped Jazz in the Daily News.
Chris M 1:42:31 PM
Horacee Arnold! omg "tales of the exonerated flea" another favorite! Unheralded.
Roffle 0x7EA 1:44:06 PM
@Patrick, I went to High School across the street from the Wilson building and it's a great venue. We would cross support the college and they would support the HS Band. It's really a cool place. Better practice room than Julliard big time with lots of pianos. lol
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:44:36 PM
You got it, Chris, another great one! Don't know many people who knew about that one!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:45:03 PM
Nels Nelson, mensch.
Patrick White 1:45:30 PM
I see Ralph and the gang appeared at the wonderful Saint Mary’s Church venue in 2001 . Tickets available at TLA video store
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:46:43 PM
Life was so much easier then
Patrick White 1:46:44 PM
Roffle. Do they still do concerts there. Rutgers Camden used to put on great jazz concerts also
Patrick White 1:48:07 PM
Amen Gordski ! Never thought my phone bill would be a mortgage payment
Roffle 0x7EA 1:49:07 PM
@Pat, I have not lived there for a long time, but it would be a hell of a waste if they don't. They even had Segovia there when I was a kid. It's a major gig on the circuit.
Patrick White 1:50:45 PM
Shout out to Mayfair. Just did hassle free snowstorm shopping at Gino’s Bakery and Capriottis produce. No Day of the Locust food shopping rioting.
Roffle 0x7EA 1:53:54 PM
Mac and Cheese death match for the last box begin at sunset Pat.
Roffle 0x7EA 1:55:51 PM
Only an evil person would order next day delivery today.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:56:27 PM
We considered it but... fuggedaboudid
Patrick White 1:56:46 PM
Any of you hipsters interested TCM is show Don’t Look Back Dylan docu on Saturday. An antidote to that lousy movie from last year.
Patrick White 1:57:51 PM
Hey. Gordski I heard Junior was angry at you for not playing Diamond Dogs last week.
Roffle 0x7EA 1:58:07 PM
Not for me. I remember Dylan just fine.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:59:12 PM
I remember seeing Dont Look Back when it first ran in the movie theaters. Revelatory
Russell Woessner 1:59:54 PM
My archives show an Oregon show at Annenberg Center at Penn on April 4, 1993 and at Memphis on Arch Street on July 27, 1988.
Roffle 0x7EA 2:01:26 PM
My archives have Alzheimer's.
Patrick White 2:01:35 PM
Wow Memphis I forgot all about that short lived spot
Mike Constantine 2:02:25 PM
I've forgotten about a lot of them
Mike Constantine 2:04:38 PM
Saw him open for Ten Years After
Roffle 0x7EA 2:04:39 PM
That was wonderful stuff Towner. I really am getting a bit overwhelmed with the Obit shows of late, but that was nice work.
Patrick White 2:04:45 PM
I always use that Dylan Line either 136 or 142 but nobody ever gets it.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:04:48 PM
Russ's archives has rats.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:06:19 PM
Mike, this was at a club called "Memphis"?
Roffle 0x7EA 2:06:50 PM
That Towner show reflects some impeccable taste Jerry!
Mike Constantine 2:07:09 PM
A club called "Spectrum"
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:07:22 PM
Thanks, Roffle!

vildachaya1 2:11:55 PM
The local John Cadillac Blues Band did a killer version of Who Do You Love - They were so fun...
Patrick White 2:14:45 PM
Ed Sullivan tells Bo you can’t sing that Bo Diddley song!Bo okay! Bo goes on air sings Bo Diddley song. Gets banned for life. True Baller move!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:15:13 PM
Rock y Roll!
Mike Constantine 2:15:19 PM
Here in the Burbs we had the Flamin' Harry Blues Band
Roffle 0x7EA 2:16:26 PM
I don't think he was planning on becoming a weekly guest on the Sullivan Show/
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:18:03 PM
Pretty ballsy for '55 or '57
Russell Woessner 2:19:02 PM
Sullivan told the Doors that they couldn't sing "Light My Fire" with the words "gonna take you higher". Same result.
Roffle 0x7EA 2:19:14 PM
I wonder what door they even let him in by.
Roffle 0x7EA 2:20:17 PM
That mouse was always going off script too.
Mike Constantine 2:20:33 PM
The Stones did the opposite for Spend the Night Together
Mike Constantine 2:21:04 PM
Friggin' Topo Gigo
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:21:31 PM
Couldn't stand Topo OR the spinning plates.
Patrick White 2:21:42 PM
I was supposed to appear on Sullivan as a 10 year old comedian but my Cardinal Spellman,A Rabbi and Charo walk into a bar didn’t make it through the censors .
Mike Constantine 2:22:01 PM
My life was all about spinning plates
Roffle 0x7EA 2:22:08 PM
It was that or the Beatles, so....
Roffle 0x7EA 2:22:48 PM
Lots of spinning plates
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:23:03 PM
Did you have a spinning plate set or did you just use your mothers plastic p lates?
Mike Constantine 2:24:15 PM
Melamene plates...guaranteed not to break
Roffle 0x7EA 2:24:23 PM
That's a gray area
Richard of Rocky Hill 2:24:31 PM
@ Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) Thank you soooo much for playing The Doors' live cover of "Who Do You Love"? They sometimes get a bad rap (due to Jim Morrison's later excesses and songwriting falloff). But they could rock and rhythm-&-blues, with Ray Manzarek's spooky keyboards, Robbie Krieger's killer slide guitar and John Densmore's powerful, always in-the-right places percussion plus Jim's hard-hitting vocals. And it's only a 3.5 piece band! (Ray's bass keyboard = 1/2 instrument)
Richard of Rocky Hill 2:25:00 PM
And they're killin' here, live with no later overdubs.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:25:05 PM
Right on Richard, yeah that was magnificent

@ Russell Woessner Awesome! I only got to catch the Doors live once, in the theater space in Madison Square Garden. It was soon after that mess in Miami with Morrison accused of exposing himself. And in NYC, Jim was sober and on this best behavior, and it was a tremendous show. When called back for an encore, Jim said to the others (but on mic so the audience heard), "Let's do one of the famous radio songs.) And they cut into "Light My Fire" and pretty much burned the place down. Yikes!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:45:12 PM
I never screwed up that big! Biggest mistake I made was not signing Benny and the Vildachayas
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:46:53 PM
I purposely passed on Derek Trucks
Patrick White 2:48:07 PM
Sorry it had to be another obituary show but as usual Jerry did yeoman work. Looking forward to next week . I can’t find that new Spring PRB schedule. Let us know if any filll in shows Gordski. Everyone have a great weekend.
Richard of Rocky Hill 2:49:06 PM
PS: At a party once I met a guy who'd been at the infamous Doors show in Miami. He said he had a good view of the stage and Morrison never exposed himself. At least physically. But he exposed what a mess he was becoming ~ drunk, kept starting and them stopping songs. Alas, the guy told me, it was a lousy show, an insult and a ripoff. I'm a major Doors fan, so I'm glad I caught them on a great night.
