I am high as a kite trying to get a wire A 15- or 16-year-old American boy named Homan Walsh (from the New York side) won the contest. He crossed to the Canadian side (via ferry upstream, then walking to the site) to take advantage of better wind direction. He launched his kite, named the "Union," and after some initial failures—including one attempt where the line snapped on rocks and ice—he succeeded on his second major try after waiting out weather and river ice issues over several days. Hello Lizbot!
DJ Readie 3:29:21 PM
I'm looking at my Audubon claendar, and it's the first day where people are tracking birds to understand how their migrations are affected by climate change!
DJ Readie 3:29:34 PM

Lizbot (host) 3:29:35 PM
@Lester Wiggs - Treacherous!
Lester Wiggs 3:30:06 PM
Hey Rob- Took Dog to the park y'day. Beaver wes very ...Busy. a lot of small trees down.
Lizbot (host) 3:30:38 PM
@dan Cochrane - Oh I have such a visceral intense taste memory of those blue tin Danish cookies! My mom and Grandmom always used to buy those and put them out for parties. The pretzel one was the best!
dan Cochrane 3:31:51 PM
Yes! They’re almost disgusting eating contest good.
Lizbot (host) 3:32:01 PM
@Readie /@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - Good luck to the migratory birds! I will have to check out Winter Climate Watch!
dan Cochrane 3:32:24 PM
Also, marked down this time of year.
Rob from Maryland 🦀 3:32:24 PM
@Readie, ah, I wasn't aware of that. I am sure the upcoming cold spell will make things interesting.

Lizbot (host) 3:32:57 PM
@dan Cochrane - haha, those little paper wrapper they sit in, and the sound they make, making it hard to sneak one! Might have to buy one of those for old time's sake!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 3:33:02 PM
@Lester, ya gotta watch those beavers!
DJ Readie 3:33:12 PM
@Rob, Lizbot - here's the Climate Watch info: https://www.audubon.org/community-science/climate-watch
Lizbot (host) 3:33:51 PM
@Readie - At first, before I read the Audubon Society explanation, I thought "Winter Climate Watch" was referring to a grassroots listener-to-DJ report on winter weather/road conditions for getting to and from the studio! I welcome that as well!
dan Cochrane 3:34:03 PM
I picked up a book from Cornell U., device in book plays 200 (!) bird calls from around the world. For when I sub HS Science.
Rob from Maryland 🦀 3:34:30 PM
@Readie, thanks for that info! I'm not sure how much time I might have for a project like that :-(
Lizbot (host) 3:34:55 PM
@dan Cochrane - Whoa! Gift ideas for future Christmases! I think I need to play those calls in my yard and see what happens
DJ Readie 3:35:01 PM
@LizBot - that sounds FAB! Hive Minds!!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 3:35:15 PM
@dan, that sounds like a good book! Happy HS Science teaching!
DJ Readie 3:35:26 PM
@Rob - yes, I know- it looks very involved!
DJ Readie 3:35:57 PM
@Dan - hurray for teachers! good work!!
Lester Wiggs 3:36:14 PM
I am not a climate 'denier' I just think that this will be weaponized against working people. I have watched finance for some time. Silver is trading at $91. What was that great 60's song? Something going on here, were not sure what it is.
Rob from Maryland 🦀 3:36:17 PM
@Lizbot 3:33 PM, that is more or less what I was thinking too
Lizbot (host) 3:36:44 PM
@Lester Wiggs - Cool! I walk my dog in the Wissahickon Woods in Philly. I've seen signs of beavers, but never seen them in action. They're so impressive, though their bright orange teeth as a little freaky
dan Cochrane 3:36:52 PM
I tried that, after a couple hours I sighted the rare ticked-off warbler (neighbor), juvenile.
DJ Readie 3:37:53 PM
lol, dan!
Lizbot (host) 3:38:10 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - Re: DJ climate watch: I am sometimes caught off guard, though most weeks in winter I'm closing watching the Thursday forecasts!
dan Cochrane 3:39:02 PM

dan Cochrane 3:41:29 PM
Never too much Eno
Lizbot (host) 3:42:19 PM
@dan Cochrane - Very true!
dan Cochrane 3:42:45 PM
Great album cover art too
Lester Wiggs 3:43:17 PM
Listening to WRTI y'day. Great mourning DJ. So Glass riffed off of the Berlin Trio, David Bowie. WRTI is cool,
dan Cochrane 3:44:17 PM
Have you seen video of Eno directing choir of shoppers, etc. in the middle of a shopping mall? Unless I dreamt that
Lizbot (host) 3:44:24 PM
@dan Cochrane - Yes! I first heard this album on a road-trip and very much enjoyed driving to it!
John Coffey 3:44:37 PM
Hi Lizbot, just tuned in at the break a minute ago. Audio has me hearing you're not at the Barge. Hope all is well!
Lester Wiggs 3:44:38 PM
@Dan. Speaking of Eno.
dan Cochrane 3:46:59 PM
Sandy the squirrel (from TX) hibernates in Sponge Bob, but they don’t really, right?
Lizbot (host) 3:47:20 PM
@Lester Wiggs - Even though overall I prefer Heroes and Low, I like Adrian Belew's playing on Lodger, speaking of the Berlin Trio. When I was in Berlin in the summer of 2024, I got excited when I saw Potsdamer Platz thanks to Bowie's lyrics!
Lizbot (host) 3:47:28 PM
Hi John Coffey!
Lizbot (host) 3:47:53 PM
@John Coffey - The Barge is getting a new heater at the moment! I'm well!
Lizbot (host) 3:48:44 PM
@dan Cochrane - haha, no! I need to seek out this Eno video! Unless it was all just a dream, in which case, pretty sweet dream!
dan Cochrane 3:49:05 PM
So cool! I was in East and West Berlin, Summer of ‘71 with chamber singing group. Went through checkpoint Charlie. Thrilling day there!
Lizbot (host) 3:49:39 PM
@Lester Wiggs - I adore Always Crashing in the Same Car from Low, though
dan Cochrane 3:50:38 PM
Everything Brian touches, every group, etc., golden (hours)
DJ Readie 3:51:23 PM
Onyeabor!!
Lester Wiggs 3:51:39 PM
Wow Dan. I have never traveled to Berlin.
dan Cochrane 3:52:24 PM
Aren’t RCA vinyl records generally inferior, some seem to be. But Island, DGM excellent.
Lizbot (host) 3:52:47 PM
@dan Cochrane - Cool! I saw a great lesser-known movie from a Berlin filmmaker from around that time. It had great black & white footage from all over Berlin. It was by director/photographer Helke Sander and is called "All Around Reduced Personality". In it, Helke and her real-life all-woman photographer collective photograph Berlin and submit photos to a citywide contest that ends up accepting, but paying them half the prize money they offered the male collective.
Lester Wiggs 3:52:48 PM
I know the Eno when I hear it.
Lester Wiggs 3:53:48 PM
I put the Czeck in the mail? You never got it?
Lizbot (host) 3:53:57 PM
@dan Cochrane - The film's cinematography is gorgeous. Also has interesting commentary on pooling domestic resources for childcare etc for working woman artists. Loved it! The old TLA in Philly had it many years ago. Don't know where you can find it now
Lizbot (host) 3:54:37 PM
@DJ Readie - Love me some Onyearbor! Needed a mid-winter Onyeabor injection pick-me-up!
dan Cochrane 3:54:42 PM
Interesting concept! I’ll try to track that down. In ‘71 there were still plenty of bombed out WWII buildings in East Berlin.
Lester Wiggs 3:55:41 PM
It's a semi-autobiographical, feminist experimental feature film that blends documentary and fiction elements. Sander herself stars as the protagonist, Edda Chiemnyjewski, a single mother and freelance press photographer living in 1970s West Berlin.
dan Cochrane 3:56:00 PM
Daisies! Masterpiece Check film, on YouTube. Two adorable kooky chicks
Lester Wiggs 3:56:55 PM
The story follows Edda's struggles to balance her professional life, artistic ambitions (she collaborates with other women photographers on a project documenting the city and the Berlin Wall), her responsibilities as a mother, her personal relationships, and the broader political and social constraints on women. The title ironically reflects the constant "reduction" of women's personalities and capacities under patriarchal and capitalist pressures—trying to juggle everything leaves little room f
Lizbot (host) 3:56:57 PM
@dan Cochrane - oh yeah, I'll bet it was something else to see that in person! You see a lot of evidence of those bombed out buildings in the film. Somewhere I have an old clamshell VHS of that movie, I think Janus Films put it out, but nothing to play it on! I have to see if Criterion ever picked it up for DVD/Blu-Ray release or on their streamer, but last I checked a few years ago, they had not. More people need to see it, it's a great movie!
Lizbot (host) 3:58:09 PM
@dan Cochrane - I love "Daisies"! I have a DVD of that! Saw it at a Secret Cinema screening on the big screen at I-House hosted by Jay Schwartz about 15 years ago. So good!
dan Cochrane 3:58:44 PM
Just watched Janus film, The Card with Alec Guinness. Wonderful! Almost a proto Forrest Gump if you can believe it.
dan Cochrane 3:59:19 PM
I have to get Daisies Blu Ray. Never gets old.
DJ Readie 3:59:21 PM
@Lizbot! I hear you! perfect!
dan Cochrane 4:00:19 PM
Playtime and Daisies would be wonderful double feature. Tati.
Lizbot (host) 4:00:53 PM
@dan Cochrane - The scene in Daisies where they dance around on the top of that huge feast was so great! So much good Czech New Wave and Czech maximalist animation/stop-motion film too! Their filmmakers receive a lot of arts funding from their government. Jan Svankmeyer films were a huge influence on Philly's own The Brother Quay, who attended the same art college as my husband, the new defunct University of the Arts!
Lester Wiggs 4:00:53 PM
Did Alec play as Obi Wan Kenosha?
DJ Readie 4:00:58 PM
A quick look and I couldn't locate any streaming opportunities for Helke Sander: DIE ALLSEITIG REDUZIERTE PERSÖNLICHKEIT - REDUPERS
dan Cochrane 4:01:08 PM
The Card, and Our Man in Havana are both on YouTube now.
dan Cochrane 4:01:37 PM
Bummersauer
Lizbot (host) 4:01:43 PM
@DJ Readie - Very sad! With every format change, so much lost media!
DJ Readie 4:02:41 PM
Yes, Lizbot! I feel like Netflix had so much more to offer in the old days of the red envelopes!!
dan Cochrane 4:02:56 PM
Walmart stopped selling that DVD/VHS machine, not that long ago.
Lester Wiggs 4:04:02 PM
I saved my VHS player. I also have a Sony 8MM with a spinning head, and the other standard. Also a spinning head.
dan Cochrane 4:04:14 PM
Our IGA still has long closed Red Box, self serve dvd kiosks. Barbie last hit movie on it.
DJ Readie 4:04:21 PM
And I read somewhere that if you "BUY" a film on Amazon, it's not really yours...they can withdraw it anytime they like, and you're out of luck!
Lizbot (host) 4:04:43 PM
@Readie - Netflix and all the streamers have been cutting back on movie offerings left and right, though none of them ever had Helke Sander! My only hope for that is Criterion!
dan Cochrane 4:04:53 PM
Bastards
DJ Readie 4:05:18 PM
I hear you Lizbot- I was also thinking Criterion...I need to look into that
Lizbot (host) 4:05:32 PM
@Readie - Oh yeah, that whole "buy" digital copy of a movie on a streamer is a total crock! They can take anything away whenever they want. I maintain my dvd/blu-ray player!
dan Cochrane 4:06:06 PM
2001: A S O on VHS was pretty lame, sound and image
DJ Readie 4:06:14 PM
yeah, dan, and they charge upwards of 15 bucks for some of those films!
Lester Wiggs 4:06:28 PM
Funny you should mention that. Money is all ones and zero's in an information retrieval system these days.
DJ Readie 4:06:41 PM
Yes, Lizbot - me too!
dan Cochrane 4:07:13 PM
Blu Rays are way temperamental compared to DVD’s in my experience. Libraries should give them up I feel.
Lester Wiggs 4:07:59 PM
Bought a hrd copy of How They Won the West off Amazon.
Lizbot (host) 4:08:04 PM
@dan Cochrane / @DJ Readie- Another great German film I saw at the [sadly now defunct] International House's theater in West Philly a couple decades ago is Ulrike Ottinger's "Joan of Arc of Mongolia"! So good! Late 80s German Maximalism. Another feminist as well. She has a new movie coming out this year!: The Blood Countess!
DJ Readie 4:08:18 PM
Luckily I never "bought" one of those - rental is fine in a pinch. And I keep forgetting to check my local library! so many DVD's & Blu-Rays there!
Lizbot (host) 4:08:26 PM
@Lester Wiggs - Yup! 010101010100100000101
Bud Burroughs 4:08:32 PM
Any of you film buffs subscribe to the Metrograph streaming service? I think I'm paying $5-6/month for a decent and constantly updating selection of foreign/indie/art films.
Lizbot (host) 4:09:08 PM
@dan Cochrane - Remember laser discs! Princeton Record Exchange used to sell loads of them! I bought Silver Lake Life on laser disc a long time ago!
DJ Readie 4:09:22 PM
Nice, Lizbot! Sounds great!
dan Cochrane 4:09:25 PM
Librarians often grab the wrong version of a film. Recently, Lolita (not Kubrick), They just read the spine. One other title too.
Lester Wiggs 4:09:32 PM
International house in West Philly! Stop breaking me heart!!
Lizbot (host) 4:09:53 PM
@Bud Burroughs - Sounds good, but no! I should check it out. I subscribe to Criterion's streaming service, and I used to subscribe to Fandor until that folded
Lester Wiggs 4:10:17 PM

Lizbot (host) 4:10:50 PM
@Lester Wiggs - I love Anthology. I always check their screenings when heading up to NYC!
Lester Wiggs 4:11:23 PM
Stan Brakage Daughter. I should have known
DJ Readie 4:11:28 PM
I've not heard of Metrograph, Bud, but I use Kanopy from the library - it's free and they have a crazy wide selection of films, foreign, occult, etc.
dan Cochrane 4:11:29 PM
Have you noticed when people pick films in Criterion Closet, how many pick their own films, can’t turn off self promo? Funny really.
Lester Wiggs 4:12:24 PM
I remember the time I was directed by the great George Kuchar. he said, Just be yourself.
dan Cochrane 4:12:53 PM
Brakage was a film survey prof of mine SAIC. He commuted from Denver, and had a tobacco spit bottle. Amazing guy!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 4:14:10 PM
@Lizbot, we are both love love loving this Terry Riley piece! :-D
dan Cochrane 4:14:53 PM
It is superb, turning it up
Lizbot (host) 4:15:11 PM
@Lester Wiggs - I have a huge soft spot for I-House - I loved their theater so much. Saw a lot of film festivals and screenings there - Jay Schwartz's Secret Cinema, Philadelphia's old original Festival of World Cinema, weekend animation fests curated by Herbie Shellenberger, and course it I-House's theater eventually got rechristened as The Lightbox Film Center, curated by Jesse Pires!
Lester Wiggs 4:15:40 PM

Lightbox Film Center had to move the program to the Gershman Y after I-House closed down, but Gershman Y had been acquired by University of the Arts prior to that move, and U.Arts abruptly closed down last year with almost no notice for faculty or students!, so now Lightbox operates out of the The Bok in South Philly! Phew! I HOPE that lasts
Lester Wiggs 4:17:34 PM
OK nice. We were once young. I think I saw Terry Riley once at the Annenberg center.
dan Cochrane 4:17:38 PM
Film Center had great series, Tak Fujimoto, who did Wenders, and Demme. To die for
Lizbot (host) 4:18:02 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - Glad you're digging the Terry Riley! I also love the title A Rainbow In Curved Air! Also reminds me of the 70s British prog band, Curved Air
Lester Wiggs 4:18:29 PM
yes you are correct Lizbot. Maybe you're lifeboat?
Rob from Maryland 🦀 4:19:26 PM
@Lizbot, the air is very curved, Terry Riley, Curved Air,
dan Cochrane 4:19:35 PM
LizB have you played Glenn Branca?
Lizbot (host) 4:20:01 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 /@Lester Wiggs - My husband and some other musicians participated in a couple of performances of Terry Riley's "In C" in Philly in the past. Performances of that seem to pop up in NYC once a year!

Love that climb Horse Lords do in this one a bit ala Television Verlaine/Lloyd Marquee Moonish
Lizbot (host) 4:22:09 PM
@dan Cochrane - I hung out with Glenn, (RIP,) on a number of occasions. My husband played in his 100 guitar orchestra Hallucination City project with Wharton Tiers on drums and Weasel Waltor recording the sessions at the Kaufman-Astoria Studios in Queens. I was there the whole weekend, have tons of photos!
dan Cochrane 4:22:53 PM
Art schools closing left and right, also art degree programs. Replaced with criminal Justice, video game design. I pick up free, new art books.
Lester Wiggs 4:23:01 PM
Horses Aren't Real. Just saying.
dan Cochrane 4:23:32 PM
Holy Shiite, I’d kill just to see them tuning up
Brian D 4:23:33 PM
In another related story, Delaware does not exist
Lizbot (host) 4:24:02 PM
@dan Cochrane - George also played in the L.A. Hallucination City at the Frank Gehry Disney Concert Hall for the Minimalism Festiva and the Montclair Hallucination City performance. I have a LOT of stories from those! I got to see and touch Harry Partch's homemade microtonal instruments at Montclair with Glenn! They're no longer there, sadly
Lizbot (host) 4:24:13 PM
Hi Brian D!
Lester Wiggs 4:24:32 PM

@Brian D - Just intonation! LaMonte Young fanatics, these Lords o' horses! Seen them a few times live and they put me in a delightful trance!
Brian D 4:25:16 PM
Some great Glenn Branca stories in Thurston Moore's bio book. Glenn very generously just threw a handful of his chopped up franken-guitars at Lee and Thurston, here take these. Thurston and Lee played in the GB orch as well.
Lester Wiggs 4:25:40 PM

Brian D 4:26:36 PM
Also worthy of mention Rhys Chatham. Die Donnergotter especially. Right up this Horse Lords alley and Glenn's
dan Cochrane 4:26:38 PM
That’s so cool, I had no idea. I bet Johnny Greenwood has plenty of his recordings

Lizbot (host) 4:28:42 PM
@Brian D - Almost shared a cab with Thurston from the studio one day. I have a lot of photos and stories from the Glenn Branca shows and recording sessions! My husband's old bandmate and childhood best friend mastered that album for Cantaloupe Records, Colin Marston, but it went through many iterations before its eventual release. Glenn was a lot of fun to watch in action. He was obsessive with getting the sound just right, which is not easy with all that reverb of that many guitars!
dan Cochrane 4:28:47 PM
Fripp ing a coin

dan Cochrane 4:30:11 PM
I did read Sonic Youth bassist memoir, a page Turner. Name escapes me, you all know
Lizbot (host) 4:30:31 PM
@Brian D / @et.al. - I loved Rhys Chatham's Die Donnergottir, and definitely similar vein to Branca
Lester Wiggs 4:30:57 PM
I dated Paige Turner. She dumped me eventually. No idea why..

One of the most memorable moments in the Hallucination City recordings sessions was when Glenn was frustrated that he couldn't hear Wharton's drums over the guitar din, so he started trying to dissemble the Kaufman-Astoria's big fancy drum baffles, which were built into the floor! Weasel Waltor had to stop him! Glenn was a joy to watch in action.
Lester Wiggs 4:33:51 PM
I bet she never seen one like that.
dan Cochrane 4:34:33 PM
Maureen Tucker/Glenn Branca?
Lizbot (host) 4:35:35 PM
Glenn's wife, Reg Bloor, has a band called the Paranoid Critical Revolution that's worth checking out. She visits us and plays Philly from time to time.
DJ Readie 4:35:53 PM

Kristen Wiigs…ahhhhhhhh
Lester Wiggs 4:36:34 PM
Pretty cool Liz. Some personal history there.
Lizbot (host) 4:36:47 PM
@DJ Readie - Yeah, I rarely am on air for such a long chunk o' time that I feel I have time to play this whole track!
Brian D 4:37:40 PM
Been using the first couple seconds of the quiet flute part from CotKC here coming up soon (Dance of the Puppets) for wake up alarm ringtone. Works well.
dan Cochrane 4:37:49 PM
Bring on the Calliope, G D it!
Lizbot (host) 4:38:06 PM
@DJ Readie - I kinda meant to do a mic break after Zombi, though, but was trigger happy with my mixer and just jumped right in to KC! And the track after this will meld well into this, so prob no mic break until after that, ha!
Lester Wiggs 4:38:28 PM
I think I was in 5th grade. Peter Brodell brought in a cassette player with this track But the pops were palying some kind of tragic drug death song. at that time.
dan Cochrane 4:38:35 PM
Can’t top this
Lester Wiggs 4:39:27 PM
1969. The Mets Won. Also- Whole Lotta Love.
Lizbot (host) 4:39:30 PM
@Lester Wiggs - Good on Peter Brodell for inducting the elementary kids into the Court of the Crimson King!
Lizbot (host) 4:40:19 PM
@dan Cochrane - I still have not accepted that King Crimson will no longer tour, but Fripp insists it is so and I tend to believe him, unlike so many other bands with their 3rd, 4th and 5th "farewell tours"!
dan Cochrane 4:40:36 PM
I play my students old scratchy 78 of “Chicken Chatter”, farmyard picture disc
Danosaur🦖 4:41:36 PM
Hey Lizbot! Hi everybody in the chat!
dan Cochrane 4:41:57 PM
I saw them Discipline tour I think.
Lizbot (host) 4:42:05 PM
One of my all-time favorite live music experiences is hearing King Crimson play "Starless." Seen them do it many times, but the time they played The Met, for the 50th anniversary tour, was the most sublime
Lizbot (host) 4:42:10 PM
Hey Danosaur🦖!
Lizbot (host) 4:42:19 PM
And now for this silly part!
dan Cochrane 4:42:28 PM
I thought you were extinct, glad not true
Brian D 4:42:29 PM
This is the part right here.... time to wake up! Alarm ring tone currently...
Lizbot (host) 4:42:36 PM
I always picture this part being played by a court jester
Lester Wiggs 4:42:47 PM
correct. Mets won the world series 1969, Led Zep relaeased Whole lotta love, and Court of the Crimson King also came out. Altamont had just happened.

Bud Burroughs 4:45:17 PM
@Brian I saw several iterations of KC and I felt like the triple drummer lineup was the best of them all
Lizbot (host) 4:45:26 PM
@Brian D - Were you at the Mann Music Center show??
Bud Burroughs 4:45:41 PM
I did get to see one Rieflin show, which was cool
Brian D 4:45:54 PM
Yep they still had the triple drummer lineup at the end as well. 1 drummer sometimes on the keys.
addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum 4:45:59 PM
my wagon is draggin' but hopefully some Lizbot tunes will get me through till 6 when i have to go back to the circ desk.
Bud Burroughs 4:46:15 PM

DJ Readie 4:46:22 PM
When I first heard this album and saw the videos...wow...
dan Cochrane 4:46:49 PM
Bowie’s all over the streams today, terrific. I’m learning Sound & Vision on guitar
Danosaur🦖 4:46:59 PM
addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum- at least your wagon isn't dragon
Bud Burroughs 4:47:17 PM
The video for this song is amazing. And what a way to end a career!
Brian D 4:47:20 PM
Show starts off w/triple drummer piece on the bottom row.... other musicians wait patiently on the above "floors" risers. Those drummers were doing a combo of rock, Scottish military, Indian rhythms... opening piece that really sets the tone.
Lizbot (host) 4:47:34 PM
@Brian D - If you didn't see it yet, I highly recommend the 2022 doc, In the Court of the Crimson King: King Crimson at 50! It's so good, and there's a lot of footage and great interviews with Bill Rieflin, who toured with them up until the last months of his life.
DJ Readie 4:47:43 PM
@Bud- YES
Lizbot (host) 4:47:53 PM
@Bud Burroughs - Thanks!

Yep saw that. Great docu. Good interviews with all esp Bill R
DJ Readie 4:47:56 PM
Hi Danosaur!
Danosaur🦖 4:48:24 PM
Bowie was able to reinvent himself and stay creatively relevant for so long. Amazing
Lizbot (host) 4:48:41 PM
THIS part is so swirling, spooky and gorgeous! What an incredible statement for him to go out on
DJ Readie 4:48:44 PM
has it been that long since Bowie left us? whew
Danosaur🦖 4:48:49 PM
Hi Readie Rightous!
Bud Burroughs 4:49:15 PM
Great documentary. I learned from it that Bill R had lost his wife to cancer about a year before he died. Incredibly tragic.
Lizbot (host) 4:49:23 PM
@addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum- I hope so! I will be playing some more upbeat tunes at 5!
Brian D 4:49:25 PM

@Danosaur i dunno, a dragon wagon would be pretty cool. think of everything i could tote around in that!
Lizbot (host) 4:50:31 PM
@Bud Burroughs - It's SO good! And I don't just say that as a Crimson fan! I was very happy with how they doc ended up. Geez, didn't know about Rieflin's wife. Terrible!
DJ Readie 4:50:34 PM
consummate artist- Bowie
Lizbot (host) 4:50:57 PM
@addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum - Sorry to hear you're dragging, but you put the song "Draggin' Wagon" in my head!

Zach 4:51:27 PM

DJ Readie 4:52:05 PM

@addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum- Draggin' Wagon by The Surfer Girls!

Brian D 4:54:21 PM
"The Next Day" the Bowie lp before this with the ode to the Heroes cover art was really good too.
Bud Burroughs 4:54:37 PM
Thomas the Worried Waltzer did an excellent tribute to the more esoteric side of Bowie the weekend after his death
Lester Wiggs 4:54:59 PM
Whats My line- you would never believe the backstories of those folks.
Brian D 4:58:38 PM
What a resume Bill Rieflin had. Ministry, REM, Robyn Hitchcock/Venus 3, King Crimson etc.

Lizbot (host) 5:21:28 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - Ah! Thanks for getting to the bottom of that mystery! Good to know!

LizB have you seen a kids show performer, probably from Vaudeville called “The Bananna Man”? He’s on YouTube, from Capt. Kangaroo. He’s insanely funny and surreal.
Lizbot (host) 5:39:17 PM

@dan Cochrane - Looks like he was a Vaudeville guy! This is amazing!: "He played with a backdrop of cardboard cut-outs of musicians, which he worked mechanically to give the impression that they were playing. His early act involved him taking cups and saucers from hiding places in his clothing, and pouring milk from his sleeves." Ha! I love it!

Hi. Always good to hear Television on the radio.
Kevin Schofield 5:56:16 PM
Did you go see Cate Le Bon on Tuesday?
Lizbot (host) 5:56:18 PM
Hi Kevin Schofield! TV on the Radio vs Television on the radio!
Lizbot (host) 5:57:03 PM
@Kevin Schofield - At Union Transfer! I had tickets for it and then my sister-in-law announced she was having a birthday party that night! I intended to get to the show after her party, but alas the party ran late and I lost track of time!
Lizbot (host) 5:57:13 PM
@Kevin Schofield - Did you get to it?
Lizbot (host) 5:58:03 PM
I love that Elmwood's Irish Trip ends with the Aer Lingus flight taking off sound!

Kevin Schofield 5:59:07 PM
I did see Cate. My 2nd time seeing her. Great show. I didn’t love her new album at first, but it’s growing on me.
Lizbot (host) 5:59:30 PM
@dan Cochrane - I love the cardboard instruments! Reminds me of 2000s era Michel Gondry movies!
dan Cochrane 5:59:45 PM
I told you! That voice of his!

@Kevin Schofield - Same. Not my favorite album by her, but I am enjoying it!
dan Cochrane 6:00:17 PM
Exactly! Lowest tech, if ANY!
Lizbot (host) 6:02:04 PM
@dan Cochrane - The best! handmade/analog/practical effects always > digital! Reminds me of the "sweding" with cardboard props of various movies in Gondry's "Be Kind Rewind!"
dan Cochrane 6:02:16 PM
Liz did you ever see an old B&W movie about a squirrel who performs? It’s his name. The squirrel taxidermy in stop motion! It’s downright morbid to watch, as a comedy, obviously for kids.

dan Cochrane 6:06:11 PM
Rupert’s keeper was in The Quiet Man I’m pretty sure. A real leprechaun himself.
Lizbot (host) 6:06:41 PM
@dan Cochrane - Oh whoa! No, I have not seen this talented squirrel, Rupert! I must amend that! Reminds me of a water-skiing squirrel my friend & I were obsessed with briefly 25 years ago! I had completely forgotten about it!
dan Cochrane 6:06:42 PM

dan Cochrane 6:13:44 PM

Lester Wiggs 6:14:42 PM

My Last Sigh is a fine book by the great Spanish film maker., He also made a film abut Russia, peasents. Luis Bunuel.
Lizbot (host) 6:45:12 PM
@Kevin Schofield - Dignified and Old is a good song. And leave it to Jonathan Richman to be a [then] young person writing about getting old in a mostly positive way, unlike most young rockmen!
Lester Wiggs 6:45:25 PM
@Kevin We are all Modern Lovers. Although i kinda got a thing for contemporary lovers.
Lizbot (host) 6:48:06 PM
@Lester Wiggs - I enjoy Bunuel, but I never got over that eye-slicing scene in Un Chien Andalou! Did you know that was a real live cow's eye, standing in for the woman's eye? Pre-animal cruelty laws in film! But a great short!

Mike Tropiano 7:04:29 PM
Kenneth Ian Morris (1 February 1957 – January 2026), known professionally as Kenny Morris, was an English drummer, songwriter and visual artist.
Lester Wiggs 7:06:39 PM
We live in padded cells of consensus, where the loudest sob wins the argument and the quiet blade of reason is called cruel. Ambition curdles into resentment; risk becomes recklessness; excellence is elitist. The masculine impulse—to build, to conquer, to stand alone—has been pathologized as the original sin, while the feminine one—to nurture, to include, to smooth edges—is canonized as moral progress.

Chris Mohr 7:24:51 PM
My 1st concert was seeing Fripp at Richardson Hall at Princeton in 1983. He laid down some Frippertronics loops, lectured for a while, then soloed over the loops. Pretty magical.

@Pat G. - Ha! Putting sauce in its place! Lipids stand no chance when up against the boys from Sheffield!
DJ Readie 7:28:19 PM
@LizBot - (Radio Sister!)I see you played the Phylliss re-issue! I'm really loving that lately!
Lizbot (host) 7:29:01 PM
@Chris Mohr - ! Amazing! Circa the era when he was also producing and playing on Roches record! I loved that era of Fripp traipsing around New York! I keep telling George he should do Fripp's workshop! He's considered it, but he knows (from friends who've done it) that there is a part where he makes everyone just stare at a wall for an inordinate amount of time and George is SURE he'd doze off and make Fripp cross and Fripp is his idol, so we can't have that!
Lizbot (host) 7:29:50 PM
@DJ Readie - Yes! So good! Loving Phylliss!
DJ Readie 7:31:34 PM
And yes! I could see George at the Fripp workshop - I think he would be so engrossed...it would really work...I'm just guessing here - but wow! George!!!
DJ Readie 7:32:25 PM
Fripp has really melllowed, doncha think?
Lizbot (host) 7:33:03 PM
@Chris Mohr - Did he start going on about the teachings of Gurdjieff?? I wanted to see his "That Awful Man and his Manager" speaking tour! Fripp and David Singleton came to City Winery in Philly a few years ago, but I couldn't make it. Probably would've made for an amusing evening!
Lizbot (host) 7:35:42 PM
@DJ Readie - Here's the thing I very much respect: He is still VERY precise and obsessive with rehearsals and practicing many hours a day when it comes to King Crimson...Which is why he felt he needed to stop touring the band. He doesn't want it to slide even slightly. I get it. It's nice to see him relax a bit, kick back in his garden and goof around with Toyah!
Lizbot (host) 7:36:35 PM
This Magic Fig song is channeling some Sweet Child o' Mine riffs!
Chris Mohr 7:37:44 PM
Yes, Gurdjieff as filtered through J.G. Bennett (whose spoken word snippets are on League of Gentlemen LP). He told a story about sleeping on Eno's couch and some insight came to him. Don't remember the details.
Lizbot (host) 7:39:00 PM
@DJ Readie - And yes! I can definitely see George getting a lot out of Fripp's workshops! At the very least, some good stories, told only as George would tell them! He has considered it before. There was one near NYC that Reg Bloor attended and told us about. But George legitimately has a low blood pressure issue where he falls asleep if he's still too long, a bit like narcolepsy, but caused by inactivity, so he KNOWS he would fall asleep during that part
DJ Readie 7:39:03 PM
Yes, LizBot - I watch him with Toyah and the rabbits, silly and fun! - and yes - his work is "sacred" - but I have a feeling he would be able to relate with a very talented artist like George on whatever terms are presented!
Lizbot (host) 7:39:18 PM
@DJ Readie - ...and he's pretty sure Fripp would not take kindly to that!
DJ Readie 7:40:55 PM
Aha - I would hate for that limitation to come into play....I would hate for George to not do something like that...but I understand!!
Lizbot (host) 7:40:57 PM
@Chris Mohr - ooh, I wonder if anyone has a recording of that show...But I can picture the spiel he gave! Did you know his sister, Patricia, is a motivational speaker?!
DJ Readie 7:41:36 PM
All you can do is keep talking about it...
Chris Mohr 7:42:41 PM
The tour t-shirt says, "The Lecture 1983. Contents: One small, mobile, intelligent unit," with Fripp's signature below
Chris Mohr 7:42:54 PM
No, I did not!
Chris Mohr 7:43:45 PM
Several people who were WPRB DJs then and WPRB trustees now were there.
Lizbot (host) 7:44:36 PM
@DJ Readie - Yeah, he really needs like medical card for that issue b/c he's fine if he can just stand occasionally, or better yet, the whole time, which is what he prefers
Lizbot (host) 7:46:27 PM
@Chris Mohr - haha, I definitely was the teen who'd proudly walk around in a "lecture 1983" shirt!
Chris Mohr 7:47:30 PM
Yes, it me! My fellow teens at Bridgewater-Raritan H.S. we're not impressed, though.
Chris Mohr 7:48:14 PM
Kudos to George for the Xmas marathon contributions this year!
Lizbot (host) 7:49:44 PM
@Chris Mohr - haha, lemme guess...I am recalling a former head of the PRB Board of Trustees circa '03-'06 or so who loved prog...and was likely a student in '83. Blanking on his name...Bill! Bill Rosenblatt?
DJ Readie 7:49:48 PM
@Chris Mohr - I second that emotion!!
Lizbot (host) 7:50:12 PM
@Chris Mohr - I will pass the message on to George!
Lizbot (host) 7:51:20 PM
Winding down the energy nearing 8 pm!

Lizbot (host) 7:51:36 PM

George Korein 7:52:05 PM
Thanks Readie! Merry Midwinter to you too!
Richard of Rocky Hill 7:52:34 PM
@ Lizbot (host) Thanks again for a fab show. And five hours of it, major!

@DJ Readie - Most bands don't care, but some venues are so uptight. We saw this modern classical series at The Kimmel's smaller stage years ago where George just tried to stand in the back, but venue employees chided him! It's not like he didn't have a ticket!
