How is your Thursday going? Welcome to Recherché! Let's chat! 😀
sean burns 12:06:24 PM
Are quickly moving clouds the only things that are said to scud?
Readie Righteous (host) 12:07:43 PM
Hiya sean- no idea...how are you doing?
Bud Burroughs 12:09:01 PM
Great starting choice Readie! The Dead only did the full suite live for a little while, and then switched to only playing the Let it Grow section
sean burns 12:10:54 PM
I'm just scouting right along
Readie Righteous (host) 12:10:57 PM
Hiya Bud! I didn't know that! Thanks for the info! Sadly, I never saw the Dead live!
sean burns 12:11:12 PM
Well AI didn't get that one
Bud Burroughs 12:11:59 PM
I never did either! Didn't really get that into them until it was too late.
Richard Mitnick 12:13:34 PM
I have been clicked in. Happy to have you in my digiteria. I hope you are having a great show
Readie Righteous (host) 12:14:38 PM
I hear you, Bud! I was invited to a concert of theirs back in the early Dead days... and I declined. I have a funny feeling, my life would've been forever altered had I gone....
Readie Righteous (host) 12:15:15 PM
Hello Richard M! nice to see you! and Thanks for the good words!
Ears 12:15:16 PM
AI told me that 'scud' is also used in nautical language to describe a boat being pushed by strong winds with no or only minimal sails. Also names a part of the process of tanning leather & a couple of other things
Bud Burroughs 12:15:24 PM
My wife always says she's thankful she didn't discover that scene as a teenager :)
Readie Righteous (host) 12:15:48 PM
Hi Ears - thanks for that bit o'knowledge!
sean burns 12:16:01 PM
I saw the Dead about 50 or 60 times starting January 1970.
Readie Righteous (host) 12:16:11 PM
@Bud- yes, I'm torn about that myself...
Readie Righteous (host) 12:16:45 PM
@sean - WOW! that is tryly amazing! did you travel far and wide to the shows?
Bud Burroughs 12:16:47 PM
@Sean You got to see them in their prime years!
Readie Righteous (host) 12:16:55 PM
*truly*
Ears 12:17:07 PM
Hi @djrr 'n' everyone
sean burns 12:17:18 PM
Not really. Those are just shows in New York Connecticut Pennsylvania Maryland and Jersey
sean burns 12:17:48 PM
Yeah those were prime years I was pretty much done with them by 1980
Readie Righteous (host) 12:17:58 PM
still, pretty cool! and yes - the prime years!
Bud Burroughs 12:18:55 PM
I play in a GD tribute band that only plays the 68-74 era, with a primary focus of 1972
Readie Righteous (host) 12:19:30 PM
Nice, Bud! I bet that's really fun!
Bud Burroughs 12:20:07 PM
I didn't fully appreciate them until I started playing it
Readie Righteous (host) 12:21:11 PM
Back in the day, I was not appreciative of the jam band concept...I was heavily into soul, funk, RnB...
sean burns 12:21:25 PM
Saw them at Middlesex college in Edison in 197 or 71
Readie Righteous (host) 12:21:33 PM
Bud, do you play long jams too?
sean burns 12:22:14 PM
Bruce Springsteen talks about being at that show in one of his books. When Jerry died he showed up at one of the clubs in Asbury Park and jammed with solar circus I believe it was. He did a pretty good imitation of Jerry's noodling
Readie Righteous (host) 12:22:17 PM
@sean- interesting to see them in a small venue like that?
Bud Burroughs 12:22:21 PM
Yep, that's the fun part. Instead of having to play note for note, we're doing extended jams in the style of that era.
sean burns 12:22:43 PM
Where do you play bud
sean burns 12:23:15 PM
They played in the gym at middlesex, there were c
sean burns 12:23:31 PM
Folding chairs on the floor and it was hot as hell
sean burns 12:24:02 PM
This is nice weir's last solo album pretty much ignored
Readie Righteous (host) 12:24:07 PM
great memories, sean!
Bud Burroughs 12:24:13 PM
Usually within a few hundred miles of Philly. Around here we typically play Ardmore Music Hall, World Cafe Live, and Sellersville Theater a couple times a year.
sean burns 12:24:24 PM
Believe me I have some great memories that I can't remember at all
Readie Righteous (host) 12:24:32 PM
What's the name of the band, Bud?
Bud Burroughs 12:24:52 PM
Box of Rain
Readie Righteous (host) 12:25:12 PM
nice! and what do you play?
Bud Burroughs 12:25:47 PM
Keyboards. I get to channel Keith Godchaux, and a little Pigpen organ now and then
Readie Righteous (host) 12:26:47 PM
@Bud- sounds like a lot of fun! Very cool! How are the audiences at your gigs?
Readie Righteous (host) 12:27:51 PM
this song Shenandoah - so evocative..beautiful!
Bud Burroughs 12:28:47 PM
Really fun, ages range from teenagers to 70s. It amazes me how many younger people are very into it. We usually draw a few hundred people for a gig.
Readie Righteous (host) 12:29:59 PM
@Bud- I had a feeling that might be the case! That jam concept is evergreen!
Bud Burroughs 12:38:11 PM
I remember recording this Nirvana unplugged performance and watching it over and over and over...
addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum 12:38:44 PM
hey y'all
Readie Righteous (host) 12:38:49 PM

addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum 12:43:13 PM
it feels less carbonated and more syrupy to me
Readie Righteous (host) 12:43:16 PM

of course, and Thanks to you Bud, and all the beautiful people in the chat - for BEARING WITNESS today!
Lester Wiggs 2:25:57 PM
I did see the Dead at the spectrum, c 1977? askes the AI to elucidate. To wit- The Grateful Dead (commonly referred to as "the Dead") played multiple shows at The Spectrum in Philadelphia, PA, over many years. They performed there a total of 53 times between 1968 and 1995, more than any other act at that iconic venue.
Readie Righteous (host) 2:25:59 PM
I am grateful and privileged to be able to do so
Readie Righteous (host) 2:26:33 PM
hello Lester!
Lester Wiggs 2:28:22 PM
I try to read up on what has been discussed in the chat before entering. I was interested in your question, did the Dead like playing Philly? I guess a little. But its not the Oakland Colosseum. OTOH
Readie Righteous (host) 2:34:12 PM
@Lester-Many artists loved playing the Philly Spectrum, something about those Philly vibes...
Lester Wiggs 2:35:24 PM
I remember seeing 'Yes' at the spectrum, Jon Anderson remarked after a rousing crowd response, ' ah I see we are back in Philadelphia' or thereabouts.
Lester Wiggs 2:36:03 PM
It wasnt the venue. It was the Philly musci loving crowd. That venue kinda sucked for music.
Readie Righteous (host) 2:36:08 PM
@Lester - pretty sure I was also there one of those Yes shows!
Lester Wiggs 2:36:43 PM
They had a rotating stage at one point. That show?
Readie Righteous (host) 2:36:57 PM
@Lester - of course...it's the magic of Philly
Lester Wiggs 2:37:04 PM
the mechanics of which must be quite complicated.
Alan Parsec 2:37:42 PM
This track is a Keeper!! Turnin' up the Volume!!!
Readie Righteous (host) 2:37:48 PM
not sure which show...surely the acoustics not made for concerts!
Readie Righteous (host) 2:37:57 PM
YES, Alan!
Alan Parsec 2:38:31 PM
This Pogues track really has...GUTS!!!
Lester Wiggs 2:38:39 PM
Anyway, Electric Factory Concerts. Spivak and Majid. The origianl venue was at 22 and Arch st, Phile, in an old tire warehouse. Dead played that venue several times.
Alan Parsec 2:38:41 PM
Wow!!
Readie Righteous (host) 2:39:55 PM
this one is spirited!
John Ceneviva 2:40:36 PM
Anderson's colab remake of Dylan's "Hard Rain gonna Fall" feels topical as well
Lester Wiggs 2:40:57 PM
If you only how many times I have asked for a Sea Shanty show on 'PRB
Readie Righteous (host) 2:41:13 PM
so true, John C- I'll be picking up these tunes next week...great suggestion!
Readie Righteous (host) 2:41:35 PM
@Lester - I did one as a tribute to our Barge a while back...
John Ceneviva 2:42:07 PM
Ahoy mates
Alan Parsec 2:43:44 PM
This Dubliner's track reminds me a bit of the Australian folksong "The Dying Stockman"
addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum 2:44:15 PM
gosh, who knew there were so many songs about Greenland??
Lester Wiggs 2:45:59 PM
Arrr, the sea be me oldest friend and fiercest foe. She gives bounty—fish aplenty, trade winds to fill me sails—and she takes away just as quick when angered. These days, the oceans be warmin', the storms grow fiercer (more like tempests than squalls), the ice caps shrinkin' like me patience after a long drought o' grog, and the tides creepin' higher on shores what once were safe harbors.
John Ceneviva 2:47:02 PM
Kudos for mood control. 5 min after Anne, I'm tapping my toes and less despondent
Bike R 2:48:05 PM
