Bob Weir on guitar here...
Dan Buskirk (host) 12:04:25 PM
Welcome to Monday Jazz!
Marcus Watt 12:10:34 PM
Hi, Dan. I have the Murray CD. I thought you might play that one.
Dan Buskirk (host) 12:11:11 PM
I thought of it instantly but I'd forgotten the one tune featuring Weir.
Dan Buskirk (host) 12:12:45 PM
Hey Mark! FRANKENSTEIN: THE TRUE STORY a big hit last week!
Marcus Watt 12:19:53 PM
Glad to hear that.
Dan Buskirk (host) 12:24:46 PM
I think some of those kids are now looking for Michael Sarrazin posters for their dorm rooms....
Richard Mitnick 12:27:18 PM
Hi Dan, I have been clicked in. Happy to have you in my digiteria. I hope you are having a great show
Dan Buskirk (host) 12:36:38 PM
Thanks Richard, Monday has arrived, brace yourself!
Dan Buskirk (host) 12:51:51 PM
Great line-up here, PR on clarinet, Henry Grimes bass, Paul Motian drums and Kenny Barron pianer.....
Marcus Watt 12:58:31 PM
I have a Philip Catherine album. I forget the title.
Marcus Watt 1:01:55 PM
Two, actually. The other with Larry Coryell
Dan Buskirk (host) 1:08:01 PM
Yeah, I've never pursued Catherine that much, surprised to see his name on these credits...
Marcus Watt 1:13:29 PM
I've only been to the Village Vanguard once. Long ago saw Larry C. with Stanley Cowell.
Dan Buskirk (host) 1:18:10 PM
Still to come for me....
Dan Buskirk (host) 1:20:29 PM
Haven't heard this disc in a while, sounding great at the moment....Pheeroan Ak Laff on drums, George Lewis trombone...
Marcus Watt 1:25:12 PM
In 2026, we all deserve some new air. And New Air, obviously.
Dan Buskirk (host) 1:26:42 PM
Great band here, Newman Taylor Baker on drums,Hilliard Greene on bass...
Dan Buskirk (host) 1:30:38 PM
Ah! Pheeroan Ak Laff must've triggered the New Air reference. Spoke to him about a year ago, great guy....
Dan Buskirk (host) 1:37:58 PM
Was up in Syracuse this weekend, got to do some mountain record shopping....
Dan Buskirk (host) 1:42:13 PM
Eric Revis bass, (feat. Ken Vandermark, Kris Davis & Chad Taylor)
Marcus Watt 1:56:42 PM
I have the Hal Wilner Monk album on vinyl. Pretty sure that never sold well.
Dan Buskirk (host) 1:57:22 PM
Loved that a big early jazz crossover for me...
Lester Wiggs 2:00:23 PM
Listening from the other room, I was like wow what a great cover of Epistrophy, lol.
Lester Wiggs 2:03:29 PM
Whenever I hear the great American Jazz players in recordings from the 60's in various European countries, I presume it was funded by the CIA. Maybe, maybe not. And I'm not complaining. Different times.
Dan Buskirk (host) 2:04:33 PM
Europe seemed to do much more to document the U.S. jazz scene than we did iurselves, unfortunately...
Lester Wiggs 2:11:33 PM
I guess I am thinking of the 'Jazz Ambassadors' program funded by the State department starting in 1956.
Dan Buskirk (host) 2:12:03 PM
Yeah, there was that recent doc!
Lester Wiggs 2:16:55 PM
I did not know Dolphy was only 36 when he died! Sources say he had becomed disillusioned with the American reception of the direction his music was taking. Someone over there near Bakers Basin played some other recordings which precede 'Last Date' Pretty cool.
Lester Wiggs 2:18:41 PM
But anyway, Dolphy was NOT CIA. lol Glad to know that.
Dan Buskirk (host) 2:23:50 PM
Love Dolphy, you ever see that doc, Eric Dolphy: Last Date?
Marcus Watt 2:37:24 PM
The doc is easy to find online.
Lester Wiggs 2:44:32 PM
No I have not. I think I should stop buying books. It only encourages them.
Lester Wiggs 2:46:18 PM
There is a book drop outside the library here in Phoenixville. The Book Van was here today, they were taking ut the returned books, I guess to take them somewhere to burn them.
Lester Wiggs 2:47:03 PM
or lend them. Same thing.
Dan Buskirk (host) 2:52:24 PM
Books, with pages and everything? wow, far out...
Lester Wiggs 2:55:58 PM
Do they still hold the NY State fair in Syracuse? Actually the PA Farm show may be going on now.
Lester Wiggs 2:57:01 PM
I was last in Syracuse in 1966. Home of Elvis, and the Ancient Greeks.
Marcus Watt 2:59:50 PM
Can't compete.
Lester Wiggs 3:00:41 PM
So the NY State fair, there was this sort of game being played. IT was like a lot of orange ping pong balls rolling over cupcake trays. So I guess if the ping pong balls dropped into your cupcake tray, you won a Plush. I got sepatarted from the family and got picked up by the State Trooers. They offered me ice cream
