| Rahul Sharma Melody of Jammu & Kashmir Music of the Himalayas Real World Records 2002 Born in Mumbai in 1972, he is the son and disciple of Shivkumar Sharma (1938-2022). The family is from the Dogra community of Jammu & Kashmir. The santoor (a variant of the Iranian santur) is a traditional instrument of Jammu & Kashmir, dating to ancient times. Its old name is "Shatha Tantri Veena" (100 string veena). | Bombay S. Jayashri DurmArga charAdhamula - Ranjani - Rupakam Thyagaraja A Rare Blend of Raga & Sahitya Magnasound 1994 "Bombay" Jayashri Ramnath was born in Kolkata in 1964 or 1965. She is a Carnatic vocalist, singer and musician, trained by Lalgudi Jayaraman and T. R. Balamani. She has also received training in Hindustani music from K. Mahavir Jaipurwale and Ajay Pohankar. Plus she studied bharatanatyam dance and learned to play the veena.

| U. Srinivas RaghunAtha nannu - Suraranjani - Adi R. Srinivasa Iyengar Dawn Raga Real World 1995 U. Srinivas (1969 - 2014) was a child prodigy. He was the first musician to use the electric mandolin in Carnatic music. He modified the electric western instrument, using five single strings instead of the traditional four doubled strings to suit the Carnatic pitch, raga system, and especially "gamakas", or nuanced oscillations. He developing a phenomenal style of playing entirely his own, and astonishingly, on an instrument that had never been played in the rigorous and difficult Carnatic style before.

She is known as the "Nightingale of South India" . Famous primarily for her prolific work as a playback singer in films, she also studied at the University of Kerala, and learnt Carnatic music under K. Omanakutty.

He is a classical and film playback singer, able to sing in many Indian languages. In a career spanning 6 decades, he is estimated to have recorded around 50,000 songs.

| Parween Sultana Raga Amba Manohari From Dawn Until Night Auvidis 1991 Begum Parveen Sultana (born 1950) is a Assamese Hindustani classical singer, representing the Patiala gharana. Her husband and guru is Dilshad Khan, born in 1941 in Kolkata.
with Abhijit Banerjee (tabla) and Shantaram Jadhav (harmonium). Khyal : "Sajani Jaye Base Kawana Nagarwa" in uncommon raga "Amba Manohari". As far as I can find, Parween Sultana is the only one ever to perform it (under that name at least). The CD liner notes say this is a raga of Carnatic origin. One website claims it is also called Monomanjari, popularized by Nikhil Banerjee. Listener "ram" identifies this as Carnatic raga Mand |

| Bismillah Khan Raga Tilak Kamod The Soul of Shahnai His Master's Voice 1979 Qamruddin "Bismillah" Khan was born in 1919 in Dumraon Bihar, and spent most of his life in Varanasi and died there in 2006. His family had been playing shehnai for generations.
He is credited with elevating the status of the shehani, and bringing it to the classical concert stage. ![]() |

| Maharajapuram Santhanam MarakatavallIm manasA smarAmi - KambhOji M. Dikshitar The Mellifluous... T Series 1992 Maharajapuram Santhanam (1928-1992) followed in his father's footsteps. Besides studying with his father, he was also a disciple of Melattur Sama Dikshitar. He and several other family members died in an automobile collision in Kooteripattu in 1992. His sons and his primary disciple Dr. R. Ganesh are now carrying on his musical tradition.

| Firoza Begum Nirajane Sakhi Balo Bhadhuare Kazi Nazrul Islam Bulbuli Nirab Nargis Bone EMI 1996 Firoza Begum was born in Bengal in 1930, and died in Dhaka in 2014. She met Bangladeshi national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam at the age of 10 and came his student. She sings "Nazrul Geeti", songs of Kazi Nazrul Islam (1899-1976). Nazrul Geeti is in the same realm as Rabindrasangeet.
