Greetings, Number 6!
Rob from Merryland 🦀 🎄 5:07:12 PM
Lizbot, were you thinking about possibly playing a Sparks song?
michael gudgeon 5:07:19 PM
one of my fav deacon songs!!!
Rob from Merryland 🦀 🎄 5:07:43 PM
Hi Carlos & Number 6
Lizbot (host) 5:07:54 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀- To close out 2025?....NEVER! ....Or perhaps sooner than even you think!
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 5:08:28 PM
Hey Number 6! How go the BandCamp adventures?
Lizbot (host) 5:08:30 PM
@michael gudgeon - Love Snookered so much! It's so joyous. This song always makes me happy. The whole Bromst album is so good, but this is the highlight for me
Lizbot (host) 5:08:46 PM
@Kerrofflesburgsteinski - Bandcamp always serves me well!
Rob from Merryland 🦀 🎄 5:09:00 PM
@Lizbot (host), what ever you are planning on doing is fine with me :-)
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 5:09:28 PM
It's a good thing in this kooky world.
Lizbot (host) 5:09:45 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀- Thank you, but yes, This might promise to be a rather Sparksy show...
Lizbot (host) 5:10:30 PM
@Carlos Ramone / @michael gudgeon - Just pop an enchilada in the mail for me! DJ mail should deliver it in 2 weeks time!
Lizbot (host) 5:10:51 PM
@Kerrofflesburgsteinski - Very true! I'm grateful for it!
Number 6 5:11:16 PM
Hi all, lots of great stuff on bandcamp as usual.
Lizbot (host) 5:11:35 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀- SPARKS in 3...2...1...
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 5:12:00 PM
I am keeping my powder dry waiting for all the "Best of 2025" shows. :)
Rob from Merryland 🦀 🎄 5:12:02 PM
@Lizbot (host) YAAAAY
Lizbot (host) 5:12:17 PM
This is for all the perfume-gifters out there. Sometimes less perfume is more!
Lizbot (host) 5:12:29 PM
Especially in a crowded elevator!
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 5:13:00 PM
Just like spice.
Lizbot (host) 5:13:08 PM
@Kerrofflesburgsteinski - haha, yeah, I've already been wondering if I'm gonna get a Best of 2025 list together by my New Year's Day show!
Zach 5:13:09 PM
Love this song also I know it from Gilmore Girls lol
Rob from Merryland 🦀 🎄 5:13:36 PM
For better or worse I have lost much of my sense of smell so I don't think I would notice perfume even in a crowded elevator
Lizbot (host) 5:13:57 PM
@Kerrofflesburgsteinski - I'd take most spices, or even just Old Spice, other most perfumes. Most of them smell like a headache coming on!
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 5:14:27 PM
@Lizbot, I love Januarys. That's is when they come rolling in.
Lizbot (host) 5:14:35 PM
@Zach - haha, I love that Amy Sherman-Palladino is a Sparks fan and managed to get Ron & Russell Mael to make a cameo in a Gilmore Girls episode!
Carlos Ramone 5:14:41 PM
Whenever I make enchiladas I do enough for two or three meals..
Lizbot (host) 5:15:49 PM
@Rob from Merryland 🦀 🎄- Yeah, I had the flu for the first half of December, so I wouldn't have smelled most perfumes in my diminished olfactory ill state unless they were sprayed directly up my nose! My sense of smell and robustness of sinuses have been restored!
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 5:16:26 PM
Yeah, I agree that stuff was made for moderate use, as opposed to how most people think is a post shower rinse.
Lizbot (host) 5:17:15 PM
@Kerrofflesburgsteinski - I do enjoy revisiting all the good albums I forgot about from the earlier part of the year!
Lizbot (host) 5:17:52 PM
@Carlos Ramone - I can't even justify cooking without making enough for leftovers for the next day or two! Too much work and clean-up!
Lizbot (host) 5:18:59 PM
@Kerrofflesburgsteinski - The worst is when people's perfume/cologne and their scented detergent on their clothes and all the other needlessly-scented items clash! Instant headache.
Lizbot (host) 5:19:36 PM
@Kerrofflesburgsteinski - Scratch that. The absolute worst is walking down a detergent/cleaning supply aisle in a big box store like Costco! Industrial perfume hell!
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 5:19:56 PM
That's good point. Some folks don't do neutral anything.
Carlos Ramone 5:20:51 PM
@LIZ..agreed on the leftovers..always 2 meals out of a dinner..only exception is when I don’t want to cook and it is Ramen package
Rob from Merryland 🦀 🎄 5:21:08 PM
@Lizbot, you are being a wizard with your Xmas song selection
Lizbot (host) 5:21:42 PM
As a staunch anti-Spotify person who's never used that service, I don't received a "Spotify Unwrapped" and I don't use a lot of apps or subscriptions that do a similar thing, but I frankly finds those a bit creepy anyway! Like, stop tracking (and surely selling) so many stats on me, internet! That said, I DO use Duolingo and I'm sure that's about to tell me how many hours of language learning I did this year any minute now
Rob from Merryland 🦀 🎄 5:22:54 PM
🦉
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 5:23:41 PM
@Carlos Ramone, Ramen is the Swiss Army knife of foods.
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 5:24:15 PM
Just bring sause
Lizbot (host) 5:24:20 PM
@Kerrofflesburgsteinski - Even TRASH BAGS are scented. Smelling perfume + garbage is SO much worse! It doesn't erase the garbage smell!
Lizbot (host) 5:24:58 PM
@Carlos Ramone - Yeah, and depending on the food, some meals taste better the next day anyway, like chili after it's been stewing in its juices for 24 hours!
Carlos Ramone 5:25:26 PM
@K..any left over veg also fit nicely in bowl..scallions, mushrooms, peppers
Lizbot (host) 5:25:36 PM
@Rob from Merryland 🦀 🎄 - Why thank you! Trying to keep it festive without overlapping with any of the songs Jon plays
Lizbot (host) 5:26:02 PM
@Rob from Merryland 🦀 🎄 - Not specifically a holiday theme today but festive and wintery!
Rob from Merryland 🦀 🎄 5:26:48 PM
In my elementary school French classes we heard "Dominique" a lot. It's great to hear it again!
Lizbot (host) 5:27:57 PM
@Carlos Ramone - making me hungry again!
Lizbot (host) 5:28:45 PM
@Rob from Merryland 🦀 🎄- haha, I never took French, so I only stumbled upon the Singing Nun in my 20s!
Lizbot (host) 5:31:33 PM
Greetings, Ted!
Lizbot (host) 5:32:14 PM
@Ted - haha, KB's Christmas special is an odd one too! My friend in Scotland says it stills airs on the BBC every December in the UK!
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 5:32:15 PM
My mom was friends with a French Nun that played guitar and sang, but Her Name was Labouré and I was in 4th grade.
Lizbot (host) 5:33:53 PM
@Kerrofflesburgsteinski - What?! A good person to know!
Rob from Merryland 🦀 🎄 5:34:19 PM
@Lizbot (host), I'm glad you are recovered from your respiratory travails

Rob from Merryland 🦀 🎄 5:35:11 PM
Carlos, totally agree
Ted 5:40:45 PM
Dec 21 and 22: Cardiacs YouTube channel will be putting up the Secret Bull and Gate concert videos. Hooray!
Ted 5:44:04 PM
Fun fact - Andy Partridge appears on that Suzuki song.
Lizbot (host) 5:44:42 PM
@Rob from Merryland 🦀 🎄 -Thanks, I have been feeling a lot better this week, just some residual fatigue, but I went out last night to begin my belated holiday shopping at a local holiday fair, and man, waaaay too many people were coughing, so the ick is making its rounds for sure!
Lizbot (host) 5:45:12 PM
@Carlos Ramone - Absolutely! I like to bring out The Pie for the holidays especially!
Lizbot (host) 5:46:19 PM
@Ted - Oh wow! Good to know! Gonna mark that on my calendar! Thank goodness for Cardiacs!
Lizbot (host) 5:46:43 PM
@Ted - Oh really?! Nice! Andy Partridge has a way of turning up on music I love!
Laura Loewen 5:56:35 PM
Belated hello! Enjoying this and oh, the singing nun! I'm old so I remember that being on the radio a lot in the 60s -- signed, unapologetic boomer
Lizbot (host) 5:57:19 PM
Hello Laura Loewen!
Lizbot (host) 5:57:51 PM
@Laura Loewen - ha, no need to apologize! I wish that song was regularly on the radio still!
Carlos Ramone 5:58:48 PM
@Laura…what about the nun in school who always had multiple choice tests?? Nun of the above
Laura Loewen 5:59:02 PM
On top 40 am radio, yet!
Laura Loewen 5:59:31 PM
Ha, @Carlos Ramone
Lizbot (host) 6:00:19 PM
@Carlos Ramone - Ha! I only ever heard about the nun in my dad's elementary school who wielded a disciplinary ruler with thwacking kids' knuckles! No singing nuns there!
Rob from Merryland 🦀 🎄 6:01:12 PM
We've always loved this Renaissance song
Laura Loewen 6:01:22 PM
Oy. And not a nun, but my third grade teacher tied me to my chair with a jump rope because I was talking to my friend behind me. Good times.
Rob from Merryland 🦀 🎄 6:01:41 PM
@Laura, ugh
Carlos Ramone 6:02:18 PM
@Liz..if I ever see someone my age with nice cursive handwriting I always figure Catholic school. Then I look for bruises on the knuckles
Ted 6:02:34 PM
I was at Annie’s (probably) last Christmas show in Sellersville last year. Bittersweet.
michael gudgeon 6:03:07 PM
@carlos i thought i responded before carlos! it was just a red tomato paste top, it was a hello fresh meal, they come out really good i think. i have to cook every meal of every day, and really need to probably to a better job of prepping on weeks we don't do stuff like hello fresh. But it's a nice little change up, i've never really cooked in my life so last 9-12 months been interesting!
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 6:03:11 PM
@Laura, Martial Law cam with the uniform in my school. lol
Laura Loewen 6:03:13 PM
@Rob from Merryland Yeah, I'm fine. But yeesh, you could get away with more then. And now back to the music...
Lizbot (host) 6:03:32 PM
@Laura Loewen - Wow! Well my mom probably remembers that. She was already teaching in her own classroom in the early 60s and she taught in London where the primary school teachers had to teach all the subjects, including French, which she only had just studied a year prior for that position! I'll have to ask her if she ever played that song for her pupils.
Lizbot (host) 6:04:07 PM
@Laura Loewen - She DID have the habit of bringing records to play in class! I know on her first day teaching primary school, she played the kids "Getting to Know You" from "The King & I"! SHe likes to tell that story!
michael gudgeon 6:04:09 PM
@lizbot didn't respond to you before i love the album too but that song is on a masterlist and always get extra happy when i hear stuff on the radio like that
Lizbot (host) 6:04:42 PM
@Rob from Merryland 🦀 🎄 - In "the bleak midwinter" is the time to break out Ashes Are Burning!
Laura Loewen 6:05:05 PM
@Lizbot, well now I'm curious. And what a challenge that must have been!
Lizbot (host) 6:05:55 PM
@Laura Loewen - Ugh! Awful! I never had a teacher who did anything quite that rotten in class! One particularly unhinged spanish teacher in high school chopped a chunk of my classmate's hair off, though! And this girl had girl down to her butt since elementary school!
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 6:06:01 PM
Teaching an English class in England would surely be a feather in ones cap!
Laura Loewen 6:06:13 PM
@Lizbot That's so sweet about "Getting To Know You" !
Lizbot (host) 6:07:06 PM
@Ted - Oh remember that and I wish i had gone! I am glad I had a nice chat with Annie H. at Zoellner Arts Center in Bethlehem for NEARFest Apocalypse in...2011ish/12? She was very chatty
Laura Loewen 6:07:23 PM
@Lizbot Oh no, chopping a chunk of butt-length hair is awful! Hope she got hers.
Rob from Merryland 🦀 🎄 6:07:46 PM
ashes are burning THE WAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY
Lizbot (host) 6:08:32 PM
@michael gudgeon - I often wonder about those mail-order meal services. They seem like they might get more veggies in my meals, but I'm afraid I'd fall behind on cooking them on busy days and they'd start to pile up!
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 6:08:59 PM
I was taken to the boiler room and told to pick up a crumpled piece of paper and got a whack with a broom handle for throwing about thirty paper airplanes at one time in math class. Totally worth it!
Ted 6:09:46 PM
I was at NearFest too! One of Michael Dunford’s last performances. Buttersweet
Laura Loewen 6:09:49 PM
HA!!! @Kerrofflesburgsteinski That's cinematic
Lizbot (host) 6:10:27 PM
This song starts out so dreary-sounding, but it becomes so triumphant!
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 6:10:30 PM
She was a cunning opponent.
Lizbot (host) 6:11:19 PM
@Rob from Merryland 🦀 🎄- Excellent. A Renaissance holiday singalong! You can go door-to-door caroling that song for 11-minutes per stop!
Rob from Merryland 🦀 🎄 6:12:31 PM
@Lizbot, if only I could carry a tune
Lizbot (host) 6:12:32 PM
@Laura Loewen - Yeah...That teacher mysteriously disappeared from my high school not long after... She was a bit unhinged. She once ate my entire extra credit assignment for Spanish National Honor Society BEFORE it got graded - It was a marzipan dessert I made from scratch! I was piiiiiiissed!
Lizbot (host) 6:12:51 PM
Queue the triumphant prog march! Prog holiday fun!
Lizbot (host) 6:13:39 PM
@Rob from Merryland 🦀 🎄 - Just recruit Annie Haslam to join you, I believe she's still stateside!
Laura Loewen (1) 6:13:52 PM
@Lizbot oh noo, it gets worse. I'm sorry she did that to you!
Rob from Merryland 🦀 🎄 6:14:19 PM
@Lizbot, right, she lives in eastern Pennsylvania?
Lizbot (host) 6:15:05 PM
@Kerrofflesburgsteinski - Oh man. I was for a while obsessed with making the perfect paper airplane in elementary school. I did chuck a few out the open window in spring when no one was looking and didn't get caught.
Lizbot (host) 6:15:35 PM
The Winter Solstice and Kate Bush go hand in hand
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 6:15:37 PM
Stelth craft!
Laura Loewen (1) 6:15:45 PM
This was a lovely break, and I will now head into the kitchen with strong beverage and putter food-wise, and thank you for the music
Lizbot (host) 6:16:46 PM
@Rob from Merryland 🦀 🎄- She does last I heard, which is why she used to play The Keswick in Glenside north of Philly somewhat frequently!
Rob from Merryland 🦀 🎄 6:17:19 PM
@Lizbot (host), how very nice that she did that!
Lizbot (host) 6:17:47 PM
@Laura Loewen - She was definitely not my worst teacher, but she was very unpredictable and spent most classes telling uncomfortable stories from her personal life and I just wanted to learn more Spanish!
Lizbot (host) 6:19:05 PM
@Kerrofflesburgsteinski - Yeah, stealth in more ways than one!: Because my brother was really into stealth bombers, I tried to make a paper one a few times! They're too wide to fly well on windpower alone!
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 6:20:25 PM
My 5th grade teacher loved to talk about her life. Great story teller. I actually learned quite a bit that year.
Laura Loewen (1) 6:20:56 PM
@Lizbot- so many wounded teachers...
Ted 6:21:35 PM
Annie is in Doylestown. Like Weyes Blood.
Lizbot (host) 6:22:43 PM
I love that Night of the Swallow outro with Dónal Lunny on bouzouki and Liam O'Flynn on uilleann pipes and penny whistle, both of Planxty, plus Bothy Band. I might play one or both later in today's show!
Lizbot (host) 6:23:48 PM
@Ted - I knew you'd remember which town! Of course these days Natalie Mering/Weyes Blood lives in L.A., but we can still claim her as a Philly 'burbs native and Siren Records patron!
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 6:24:37 PM
@lizbot. I used to work in CA making airplane stuff, and we had lots of extra graphite and composite material laying around, so we started trying to build our own RV's and started talking to the guys at Lockheed down the street, but I left before it got going.
Lizbot (host) 6:25:29 PM
@Ted - I was so glad to see U.K. perform at that NEARFest! Definitely the last time I saw John Wetton before he died, and they did Starless!
Lizbot (host) 6:25:53 PM
@Kerrofflesburgsteinski - Nothing good ever happens in the boiler room!
Danosaur🦖 6:26:32 PM
Hey Lizbot and fellow chatters!
Lizbot (host) 6:26:34 PM
@Laura Loewen - THank you for stopping by! Happy Holidays!
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 6:26:42 PM
I can't look at the drink without a flask back. lol
Ted 6:27:24 PM
UK filled in for a German band whose name escapes me. Good sub! I was most pleased to see Van der Graaf in a rare US appearance.
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 6:28:48 PM
Oh shoot Ted, that a nice happening indeed.
Lizbot (host) 6:29:04 PM
@Kerrofflesburgsteinski - Some teachers had there personal anecdotes that were fun and entertaining, and some were just a bit of a mess! And I have a lot of empathy and love for teachers, having been raised by two! One of the high school history teachers, Mr. Farrell, was a great storyteller, so funny, played us Irish music and got on Jeopardy during the year I had him! He didnt talk about us during his anecdote at the start of the show, though, just about some dumb watch his wife gave him!
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 6:29:26 PM
I saw UK at the Tower. Very cool show.
Lizbot (host) 6:29:27 PM
Speaking of Irish musics...
Lizbot (host) 6:30:13 PM
Greetings, Danosaur🦖! Happy Holidays and whatnot!
TAndy 6:30:41 PM
I heard there was some musical magic going on in here!
Lizbot (host) 6:32:34 PM
@Kerrofflesburgsteinski - Oh damn, building with spare materials recreational vehicles sounds fun! Reminds me of my friend from high school who became a physics professor, but during her graduate school days, she had a budget for all these materials for student-led projects, but she used some of it to build a mini hovercraft!
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 6:32:46 PM
Whimsical magic even TA!
Lizbot (host) 6:33:15 PM
@Kerrofflesburgsteinski - That same friend later worked for the Human Dendritic Growth Project at NASA and gave me an absolutely rad bumper sticker with that name on it and some op-art skin cells in space!
Lizbot (host) 6:33:33 PM
Hello TAndy! Indeed!
michael gudgeon 6:33:36 PM
ayy went to a celtic angel christmas show last night sick song!
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 6:33:55 PM
@Lizbot. Score!
Lizbot (host) 6:34:03 PM
I love the drop in this Bothy song! Irish trad musicians always building and building to that final jam!
Lizbot (host) 6:34:48 PM
Time for the ULTIMATE Winter Solstice song! Time to clap along!
Lizbot (host) 6:35:45 PM
@michael gudgeon - Nice! Where was that! I got an internet ad for a celtic trad concert this week, don't remember what it was, but maybe that!
Lizbot (host) 6:36:34 PM
@Kerrofflesburgsteinski - Any time anyone says or types "even" at the end of a sentence, I can't help but hear it in a Snagglepuss voice!
Lizbot (host) 6:37:22 PM
@Kerrofflesburgsteinski - ooh, I always hear about rad shows at The Tower that I missed, most before my time. When was that UK show? RIP The Tower, it has mostly been closed since the pandemic, no?
addie🐍🐍🐍plum 6:38:04 PM
summoned by the bells!
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 6:38:05 PM
OMG Lizbot! I think "Exit Stage Left" on a regular basis. lol
Lizbot (host) 6:38:36 PM
addie🐍🐍🐍plum!
addie🐍🐍🐍plum 6:38:48 PM
ah! this song evokes Pethie for me.
Lizbot (host) 6:38:50 PM
@addie🐍🐍🐍plum - Time to dance around the yule tree AND around the hat!
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 6:39:11 PM
1978 or 79. My high school buddy took me.
Lizbot (host) 6:39:21 PM
@addie🐍🐍🐍plum - My parents had a lot of this era of British folk revival stuff in my house growing up, so I played this one for Hattie when she was little and it was a hit with her!
addie🐍🐍🐍plum 6:39:24 PM
i am still at my desk at the library, what will they think!
addie🐍🐍🐍plum 6:39:50 PM
(as if i care, hah!)
Lizbot (host) 6:40:42 PM
@Kerrofflesburgsteinski - I've also been regaled with stories of seeing Gentle Giant at The Tower by Frank In New Egypt, a longtime caller who never made the switch to The Chat post-pandemic. Seems The Tower was the go-to Philly area venue for prog bands with a large enough following!
Danosaur🦖 6:40:52 PM
Ain't no party like a solstice party!
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 6:41:17 PM
Libraries should be open 24/7 in a proper world.
Lizbot (host) 6:41:19 PM
@addie🐍🐍🐍plum - haha, they won't mind! you're being festive!
Danosaur🦖 6:41:49 PM
Dancing with a witch a goat and a satyr
Lizbot (host) 6:42:06 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - For real! Someone brings the willow sprigs!
Ossy 6:43:10 PM
awesome holiday smells liz!
Lizbot (host) 6:43:33 PM
@Kerrofflesburgsteinski - Yes! Hopefully with a big enough staff that no one is on double-shifts! Our local Philly public library closes at 5 pm with almost no weekend hours, and my teen LOVES the library, so it's a real bummer! We live walking distance from that branch, but have to drive her to a library in the 'burbs for the longer hours!
Danosaur🦖 6:43:36 PM
Ooh, sultry Santa Claus
Ossy 6:43:37 PM
like chocolate cake teeth, tara sands! https://www.instagram.com/p/DO2mAMYDvNA/?hl=en
Lizbot (host) 6:43:41 PM
Greetings, Ossy! Happy Holidays!
Danosaur🦖 6:44:48 PM
Someone's on the naughty list
michael gudgeon 6:45:55 PM
i live in the villages florida, so it was at like a little place called the savannah center, but the woman i take care of her best friend gets tickets to all sorts of shows, and we get first row, see some good stuff, not stuff i particularly would go out and see but still nice!
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 6:45:55 PM
I was thinking earlier, what is Ossy's position on elevator perfume?
michael gudgeon 6:48:28 PM
that's a solid question kerrofle
addie🐍🐍🐍plum 6:48:43 PM
Kerrofflesburgsteinski asking the hard hitting questions!
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 6:50:31 PM
If I see just one wicker man I'm just gonna go check on my tire pressure and go get a coffee.
Danosaur🦖 6:53:30 PM
I think that when you're in the woods with a flute prancing is pretty much required
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 6:53:31 PM
@addie, Some ones gotta be the bad cop...
Ossy 6:56:56 PM
roffle for earlier smells - it depends on who or what came in elevator lool
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 6:57:38 PM
HA! So true Ossy. So true.
Lizbot (host) 6:58:16 PM
@Ossy - I see Tara has been enjoying her birthday!
Lizbot (host) 6:59:04 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - "dancing with a witch, a goat & a satyr", or in other words, time-traveling to a Kate Bush or Jethro Tull concert
Lizbot (host) 7:00:48 PM
@michael gudgeon - Nice concerrt hook-up! I wouldn't say No to a free Irish trad show! I live near the COmmodore Barry Irish Arts Center in Philly, so there's often good trad shows nearby! Céad Míle Fáilte!
Alana Phelan 7:03:26 PM
Good to see the chat is still making me sign in twice every time I want to say something...just coming to heap love on Lisbon for playing Jethro Tull AND Sparks, just said to Mary "She's just like me fr (except for the Little Drummer Boy love)"
Alana Phelan 7:03:49 PM
Oh right, and I'm on the work laptop so it's autocorrecting Lizbot HOW DARE
Lizbot (host) 7:04:05 PM
@Ossy / @Kerrofflesburgsteinski - I think the other major factor with perfumes and colognes is theyre SO strongly associated with memory, so if a scent reminds me of someone I liked, like my grandmom who died decades ago and always wore "Chloe", then it can make me nostalgic or happy, but it's VERY case by case and can go the other way for people I didn't like who always wore a certain scent!
Danosaur🦖 7:04:21 PM
Sparks really runs the gamut of musical styles. Always good
Lizbot (host) 7:04:27 PM
Greetings, Alana Phelan!
Dale Hazelton 7:05:02 PM
herro. good sounds last few tunes i caught. i'm sure more to come.
Lizbot (host) 7:05:10 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - True! One of the reasons I love them! Still experimenting well into their 70s! And this was a bit of a comeback album for them
Lizbot (host) 7:05:25 PM
Hello Dale Hazelton! Thanks for dropping in!
Number 6 7:05:46 PM
Okay, I must take my leave. I volunteer at another radio estacion and duty calls. BCNU!
Alana Phelan 7:05:49 PM
Was that because it was on Gilmore Girls? :)
Lizbot (host) 7:06:49 PM
@Alana Phelan - haha, say "Hi" to Mary & Dennis from me! I hope Mary is feeling better soon!
Dale Hazelton 7:06:55 PM
john camp's bass lines in ashes are burning are simple but really powerful. r.i.p. about a year ago now...
Lizbot (host) 7:07:16 PM
@Alana Phelan - I WISH there was a way to fix that chat double-sign-in issue! I have it too!
Alana Phelan 7:07:35 PM
Will do!
Ossy 7:07:37 PM
liz - funny to say, just came from bath and body works and ascented by the literal holiday smells there. They have new scents there every time
Lizbot (host) 7:07:37 PM
@Number 6 - See you! Happy Holidays!
Danosaur🦖 7:07:58 PM
Gotta love Francois Hardy ❤️
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 7:08:29 PM
Be safe #6!
Danosaur🦖 7:08:31 PM
Love the background singers
Empress Lora Mars 7:08:33 PM
💜 ✨ great show. Loved Art Bears wow.
Dale Hazelton 7:08:49 PM
ossy - a pumpkin candle is always appreciated.
George Korein 7:09:20 PM
this is jolly
Lizbot (host) 7:09:32 PM
@Alana Phelan - Sparks had kind of a slump sales/interest/reviews-wise in the late 90s, and then Lil' Beethoven came along, with all its chopped up collaged building repetition, and it put them on a lot of people's year-end favorites list! And they got that Central Park Summer Stage gig not long after
Alana Phelan 7:09:34 PM
Mary says hi and bye, she's isolating in her room about to eat dinner and listening to the show, her files were downloading to the Sparks beat
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 7:09:46 PM
@Alana Phelan, Spintron does not have that weird issue.
George Korein 7:09:59 PM
verry mery
Lizbot (host) 7:10:20 PM
Hi George Korein! Jolly indeed! Riding on a giant cuddly dove!
Lizbot (host) 7:10:40 PM
Hello Empress Lora Mars! Thanks for tuning in!
Kelly Nielsen 7:10:41 PM
Robert Wyatt is perfect right now. Show has been fantastic so far

@Dale Hazelton - Yes! Love John Camp! RIP
George Korein 7:11:38 PM
heaps of sheeps a-leaping
Lizbot (host) 7:11:50 PM
@Alana Phelan - I love that Amy Sherman-Palladino loves Sparks and worked them into GG, AND Andy Partridge as well!
Lizbot (host) 7:12:05 PM
Hi Kelly Nielsen! Thanks so much!
Danosaur🦖 7:12:19 PM
🎶🐑🐑🐑🎶
George Korein 7:12:30 PM
this has kind of a 70s eno vibe and some stereolab too
Lizbot (host) 7:13:01 PM
Robert "realized his [Christmas] goose was cooked"
George Korein 7:13:09 PM
i mean i guess it's kind of like 90s eno/cale album too
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 7:14:00 PM
Yeah George, Something is in the punch bowl?
Lizbot (host) 7:14:18 PM
@Alana Phelan - I hope that means there's a new Mary Vs the Movies tonight, but I'd be surprised, considering the holidays AND her covid! Maybe there's a special guest host tonight?!
Empress Lora Mars 7:15:03 PM
That's one of my fav Wyatt songs!
Lizbot (host) 7:15:42 PM
@Kerrofflesburgsteinski / @Alana Phelan - When I am the moderator, I don't need to sign in twice, but when I'm logging into the chat for anyone else's WPRB show as a chatter, it always makes me log in twice. Why, I do not know. Those mysteries, as Ron Mael sings
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 7:16:26 PM
You log in thru Spintron though?
Lizbot (host) 7:16:41 PM
@Empress Lora Mars - I love Heaps of Sheeps! Wyatt is one of my favorites for both singing, lyrics and great song titles! Plus his wife Alfreda's art on his album covers is great!
Lizbot (host) 7:17:00 PM
@Empress Lora Mars - Alfreda Benge + Robert Wyatt = Total power couple
George Korein 7:17:53 PM
Neu romantic
Lizbot (host) 7:18:49 PM
@George Korein - Neu...Romantic is what I said whilst listening to all that komische musik in Germany!
George Korein 7:18:52 PM
this song is dark castle disco
Lizbot (host) 7:19:15 PM
@Kerrofflesburgsteinski - Yes for my own show
George Korein 7:19:28 PM
phantom of the 'theque
Lizbot (host) 7:20:16 PM
@George Korein - Yeah, Wyatt's stuff from the late 90s can be kinda Stereolab-bouncy
Empress Lora Mars 7:20:50 PM
@Lizbot yeah totally power couple. I love that painting of them for Dondestan (prob my fav Wyatt album... 🤔)
Danosaur🦖 7:20:52 PM
It definitely has an operatic disco vibe
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 7:22:13 PM
@Lizbot, Spintron is less linky, but basically the same for a listener. Not a big deal, unless you want to engage in the chat.
Danosaur🦖 7:22:21 PM
Solstice at the disco
George Korein 7:22:23 PM
the massed choir sing together: "lay all your love on me... no, me... no, me"
Mary Jones 7:22:44 PM
hello hello, just checking in to say I'm stealing this playlist
Lizbot (host) 7:23:54 PM
Hi Mary Jones! Haha, be my guest. I hope it enlivens your immune system like so many prancing satyrs and aid in yr defeat of the Dred Covid!
Mary Jones 7:25:03 PM
Fingers crossed and bonfires--well, candles--lit
Lizbot (host) 7:25:18 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - haha re: Solstice at the Disco! ABBA had to enter the party, being from the frozen northlands of Sweden where solstice is NO JOKE!
Alana Phelan 7:25:37 PM
Lizbot, I do love me some Uncle Morty but even as webmistress, I never know what's coming up next! (I guess I could ask, but that'd be more work for M+D)
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 7:26:04 PM
Awe shoot, not a wickerman candle I hope.
Lizbot (host) 7:26:49 PM
@George Korein - 'theque metal = the marriage of ABBA disco and Scandinavian Black Metal
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 7:27:32 PM
Who knew the Vikings would give us ABBA?
Lizbot (host) 7:27:57 PM
@Alana Phelan - Uncle Morty cracked me up!
Alana Phelan 7:28:14 PM
TULL TULL TULL TULL
Lizbot (host) 7:28:55 PM
@Kerrofflesburgsteinski - oooh, I will take one iron maiden ornament and one Wickerman candle, please! It's a Folk Horror Christmas with a heaping side of Prog Yule
Danosaur🦖 7:29:13 PM
Music to prance and caper to
Lizbot (host) 7:29:41 PM
@Kerrofflesburgsteinski - ABBA: The most consequential thing the Vikings brought us!
Lizbot (host) 7:30:09 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - Perhaps tranforming you into a Dance-asaur
Lizbot (host) 7:30:24 PM
@Alana Phelan - 'Tis the Season of Tull!
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 7:30:26 PM
Killbot rears her head above the fray!
Danosaur🦖 7:30:41 PM
@Lizbot - for sure!
George Korein 7:30:51 PM
'theque metal = disco-tech metal
Dale Hazelton 7:31:07 PM
first - and only - tull album i bought back int he day.
Lizbot (host) 7:32:01 PM
I am the crow of desperation. But I look good against a white snowy backdrop.
Lizbot (host) 7:32:36 PM
"I scramble in the dust of a failing nation" - relatable/
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 7:33:02 PM
It was a hell of a ride though.
Lizbot (host) 7:33:25 PM
@Dale Hazelton - I love the lengthy tea-drinking intro! Kick back with Ian and some tea for elevenses
Danosaur🦖 7:33:43 PM
We are all the crow of desperation at this point
Lizbot (host) 7:34:19 PM
@Kerrofflesburgsteinski - haha, I have the meddle and the metal to survive any ritual sacrifice! Take THAT, pagans!
Dale Hazelton 7:35:10 PM
lizbot, haven't listened to war child in it's entirety since it came out. i need to remedy that.
Lizbot (host) 7:35:30 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - I might be the raven of ravin' by now
Danosaur🦖 7:36:21 PM
Haha! I think I've become a raven lunatic as well
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 7:36:35 PM
Play that hand!
Danosaur🦖 7:36:48 PM
I thought that last song was David Byrne
Lizbot (host) 7:37:01 PM
@Dale Hazelton - Ooh, that's a great one! I'm unapologetically pro-Tull. Same with Gentle Giant. And both had a harder prog phase followed by a more gentle prancing folk revival phase and I love both!
Mary Jones 7:37:13 PM
man, I love this slap happy song
George Korein 7:37:19 PM
raven rave
Lizbot (host) 7:37:55 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - yeah, I could see David Byrne making something like that. It's not like he hasn't worked with Eno before
Danosaur🦖 7:38:11 PM
This is a goodun
Lizbot (host) 7:38:12 PM
@Mary Jones - Yeah, I love this one! Dagmar is awesome
Dale Hazelton 7:39:22 PM
lizbot - dave mandl just did an interview with derek shulman from gentle giant on monday on fmu. here's the link.
Dale Hazelton 7:39:28 PM

Danosaur🦖 7:39:45 PM
Has a Niko and Velvet Underground vibe but more upbeat
Lizbot (host) 7:39:58 PM
@Dale Hazelton - Oooh, nice! Gonna have to check that out later, maybe on drive home!
Ossy 7:41:23 PM
dale hazelton for earlier - as well getting this limited edition during halloween season, a maleficent spray
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 7:41:44 PM
@Danosaur, yuppers. I was thinking "watin' for my man", big time.
Danosaur🦖 7:42:16 PM
Haven't heard this in a while
Lizbot (host) 7:43:32 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - Yeah, that makes sense. Don't know if Dagmar Krause and Nico ever met, seemed to run in very different circles, but that would've been an interesting collab! Dagmar is from Hamburg, whereas Nico was a Cologne girl
Dale Hazelton 7:44:05 PM
ossy, i had a giant pumpkin spice candle from there that lasted a few years of holidays. i finally melted the was down and added it to undercoating on a hot plate to shoot on my pickup truck frame. it prevented rust and smelled good to boot.
Dale Hazelton 7:44:28 PM
wax.....the wax...
Dale Hazelton 7:46:46 PM
this sounded a tad like amazing blondel at first.
Mary Jones 7:47:09 PM
love this Chieftains album--listen to it every Christmas.
Ossy 7:49:20 PM
dale - wow, the place must surely smelled so autumny nice, especially as a stand in super glue for the truck
Lizbot (host) 7:49:32 PM
@Mary Jones - For real! One of my all-time favorites and the first Christmas album I break out every year! Such great collaborations on it and I still get chills from the tolling of the bells at the start and end of the album! My dad bought it of course when it came out in 1991 and we played it a LOT in my house in my teen years
Lizbot (host) 7:50:29 PM
@Dale Hazelton - I USED to burn a lot of scented candles, though I was picky because so many smell like awful chemicals and/or way too strong, but then I got pet birds. Scented candles and birds do NOT mix!
Dale Hazelton 7:52:35 PM
lizbot, i had parakeets from the mccrorey's in brooklyn when i lived ther in the mid 80s. an open window at night would kill them. i feel bad i was an ignorant parent. they loved to sit on my finger and fly around the apartment.
Dale Hazelton 7:53:40 PM
ossy. that truck is still intact. a 1997 that hasn't rusted away up here is kinda rare.
Rob from Merryland 🦀 🎄 7:53:46 PM
Loving the Art Bears, Slapp Happy, and other songs of the past while (and Steeleye Span too, that got us singing along)
Danosaur🦖 7:54:00 PM
Oh, to be drunk on the joy of living
Lizbot (host) 7:54:17 PM
@Dale Hazelton - I do anything for my birds! I got rid of all my coated cookware for them! Toxic for them...Also for us!
Lizbot (host) 7:54:34 PM
@Rob from Merryland 🦀 🎄 - Glad you enjoyed it!
Lizbot (host) 7:54:55 PM
Getting kinda somber, but I love this song so much and I needed at least one Ewan MacColl song.
Dale Hazelton 7:54:59 PM
sure...cast iron or stainless steel wins.
Lizbot (host) 7:55:12 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - That's what I intend to do soon!
John Coffey 7:55:45 PM
Nice choice Chieftains M Faithful song @Lizbot! Oh, I have that CD, lol! Have a great Happy Merry Christmas Holiday Liz and family.
