rick hallahan 12:43:38 PM
I named my daughter Natasha. I never told my wife why I wanted that name in the family!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:45:08 PM
What an alluring name. Does she go by that, or a nickname?
rick hallahan 12:45:49 PM
Her friends call her Tasha, but I always call her Natasha.

Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:03:20 PM
Christine, and all Cuckoo listeners. Everyone! Thanks to Russ I saw this record release concert at Roulette on line. It was so great, I don't know howto properly describe it. And it's free free free. Roulette, a great club in NY has great, great shows and sometimes they stream them for free. If you have the time, please check it out. Every Cuckoo listener here will enjoy it.
Christine 𓅊 𓃕 𓃹 1:04:23 PM
Great info, thanks Jerry
Mike Constantine 1:12:41 PM
That was spectacular
Brian D 1:12:44 PM
Great take on the Herbie Headhunters track there whew.... they really had those vintage tones dialed in. Thought it was the orig for a while there
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:12:54 PM

Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:13:08 PM
Glad you guys liked that
Russell Woessner 1:15:03 PM
I will be at at Roulette on Sunday for this concert: https://roulette.org/event/sylvie-courvoisier-with-mary-halvorson-and-wadada-leo-smith/ Courvoisier will play two complete duo sets, one with Wadada and one with Halvorson. I'm diggin' this beautiful interpretation of Ruby My Dear!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:21:06 PM
great, Rick.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:23:05 PM
Our group needs to know that Rick has a long career as a hang out in clubs as a baritone player, and as a top flight chorale vocalist. (choral?)
Russell Woessner 1:26:31 PM
Upcoming at Roulette, Amir ElSaffar New Quartet & Hamid Al-Saadi tomorrow and Elliott Sharp: Feedback Book Launch & Duets with James Brandon Lewis on Wednesday: https://roulette.org/calendar/
rick hallahan 1:28:25 PM
Jerry, I actually was a trombone player. I was a wannabee baritone sax player, but discovered after borrowing a bandmate's bari sax, I wasn't able to get a damn note out of it - not even a squeal. So now I just dig hearing other musicians play it properly.
Lester Wiggs 1:30:24 PM
Thanks Rick. I know the tune. But couldn't place it. Reminds me of an old GF, who had an olfactory gift. She could identify smell in the way a musical prodigy can identify notes.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:30:24 PM
You are still big time in my book
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:30:55 PM
Lester, what do you play?
Lester Wiggs 1:31:36 PM
I play the Bass. Small mouth mostly.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:33:11 PM
I like them too
Mike Constantine 1:33:23 PM
I play the ponies
Lester Wiggs 1:33:46 PM
lol jk. I remember George Lane. He played a fine Bass Clarinet. I did find a recent recording of Dolphy, 1964.
Russell Woessner 1:34:43 PM
My other favorite NYC jazz club is The Jazz Gallery. Philadelphia drummer Johnathan Blake & pianist Dabin Ryu are playing tonight and tomorrow with Philly saxophonist Jaleel Shaw: https://jazzgallery.org/calendar/johnathan-blake-dabin-ryu-dec-5-6-2025. These concerts will be livestreamed.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:35:40 PM
Haha, Mike. I bet you do!
Lester Wiggs 1:36:21 PM
I Love Ponies. Where is the PNY based economy I was promised by Vermin Supreme
rick hallahan 1:40:03 PM
This is classic stuff by Rahsaan!
Russell Woessner 1:40:53 PM
The Bill Frisell Quartet is doing fundraising concerts for the Jazz Gallery on Wednesday and Thursday with Johnathan Blake and Jaleel Shaw: https://jazzgallery.org/calendar/bill-frisell-dec-10-11-2025 Livestreams are available for the Thursday sets.

Patrick is so knowledgeable about pop music, it is incredible. Even if his jokes occasionally suck.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:19:51 PM
Rick, remember the first time you heard "The look of love"?

Lester Wiggs 2:33:31 PM
Correct me if I am wrong here, but my understating was was they needed another track to complete the album, so Newman stepped into a side room and quickly scribed 'Short People' Although I think Drop the Big one was his greatest composition. or at least most useful one.
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 2:33:34 PM
I order 5xxx from Chinese places and they are still too small. Speaking of short people.
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 2:33:59 PM
I'm only 240lbs
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 2:35:49 PM

My Chinese girlfriend checks in at 5ft even. It's weird and lovely.
Lester Wiggs 2:40:28 PM
Many folks have wanted to analyze Bob Dylans B side, "I wish that for just one time you could stand inside my shoes / You'd know what a drag it is to see you" No one understands the creative process. So the same with RN. I always loved that guy and his songs. i think Fleetwood mac should have had a collaboration.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:40:49 PM
Haha, like Mutt & Jeff. But alot prettier
Kerrofflesburgsteinski 2:42:21 PM
Dylan writer workshops were a thing in the 70's. All kinds of shit like that.
