one big handshake

Nov 16, 2025 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM

Music

With wishbone

folk textures! often crafted from a deep fascination with acoustic instruments and styles, and their canoodling with electricity. what even is it? is it alive? and who cares? love of collage-y and crooked music. respect for ever warping tradition. cheers

THE BANJO SHOW

As per bandcamp: "The man behind Tall Tall Trees is Mike Savino, a pioneer in the the world of experimental and psychedelic banjo music. Often performing solo, Savino’s modern take on the one-man band involves running his homemade instrument, dubbed the "Banjotron 6500" through a slab of effects and loopers, bowing, drumming, and strumming out multi-textured arrangements to support his lyrically driven songs."

Great version of Groundhog by Doc Watson but it was not with David Grisman. It was from this release: https://docwatsonandgaithercarlton.bandcamp.com/album/doc-watson-and-gaither-carlton

Brian D 8:00:04 AM
Doc recorded Groundhog multiple times. Always a fun song. He worked with David Grisman later in his life (1990s-2000s)
funkybutterfly 8:19:12 AM
interesting!
Brian D 8:35:50 AM
Love Railroad Bill. Great take on that classic from Crooked Still. They were a great young band doing some fine things in the 00s and the members went on to do even more. Aoife and Rushad especially.
Brian D 8:57:25 AM
What is the definition of perfect pitch? Throwing your accordion into a trash dumpster and it lands on a banjo.
funkybutterfly 8:58:03 AM
Loved the show! Learned a lot about Banjo!
Brian D 8:58:13 AM
I parked in a rough neighborhood and left my banjo in the car. I returned to my car to find one of the windows broken.... and someone left another banjo in the car....
