It was pretty good. People brought in their synths for everyone to play with, then someone gave a concert. The next one is Dec. 4.

On Sunday I went to an 8 hour synthfest at the Rotunda, and there was free food as well.

@Number 6 - Which series was this again? Is it related to that Musica Practica / Elettronica Viva group Eugene from UPenn's music department runs? I've gone to a bunch of their events over the years and they often have a bring-your-own-synth element

@Number 6 - The Sunday thing being long synthy and at The Rotunda and with free food reminds me of the old Gate to Moonbase Alpha series that used to happen there, but that hasn't happened in yeards

@Keroffle / @Number 6 - Ugh, a big part of it is because of some truly inane roadwork happening on the PA turnpike right now. I take the PA Turnpike/I-276 to Rte 1 to I-95 to Rte 206 into Princeton from my corner of Philly.

People bring store bought ones or ones they made. The Speak & Spell toys are popular for circuit bending.

I lived close to 1 in North Jersey. Madness and endless Bedlam.

@Keroffle / @Number 6 - Roadwork along that route is nothing new. I can't think of a time that at least one of these roads wasn't having at least some roadwork. It's that the WAY the traffic on the PA Turnpike was just recently rerouted this week - NIGHTMARE. So bad, causing major backups during even off-peak hours. I wonder how long they're gonna leave it like that!

@Kerroffle - Rte 1 is why is take 206 as soon as I reach that exit! I still gotta drive on a stretch of Rte 1, but I get onto 206 as soon as I reach that Lawrenceville exit. 206 is gorgeous, and as long as you don't get stuck behind a tractor, it's a far more pleasant driving experience than Rte 1!

@Number 6 - Yeah, the rte 1/ turnpike interchange work was frustrating. Now it's the Rte 309 to I-276 coming from NW Philly that's super super dangerous right now. i don't know what they were thinking, it's so crazy, and has created an endless jam

@Number 6 - Yeah, and the thing is, sometimes the roadwork isn't that disruptive to the traffic pattern. Whoever came up with whatever is going on on the rte 309 to I-276 interchange is demented! It's truly ridiculous

Going back in chat to driving behind tractors, such a part of my drive on Eastern shore of Maryland.

@John Coffey - I'll still take being stuck behind a tractor from one of the many farms along Rte 206, a very old country road, than the traffic of Rte 1!

rte 1 is the very worst!

Number 6: When they first put the Shurekill in as a Super highway, it was like trying to fit a Turkey into a lunchbox, not enough room..

@Alan Parsec Paidup - Ughhh, yeah. My most-despised waaaaay-too-short/sharp angle on-ramp I use frequently is the one onto the Schuylkill heading west by 30th St Station. That ones is terrible!

went to Bonnaroo in 2018 with no real gameplan, pretty much went to exclusively techo/edm sets the entire weekend, verdict pretty enjoyable, probably a few years past my prime but was nice to experience. And silent disco was probably one of the coolest experiences i had!

@michael gudgeon - Oh nice. Yeah, my feelings on big musical festivals are mixed. I have had really good times at some, but there are many caveats, and the vibe of the crowd influences the experience so heavily. I would probably have gravitated towards the EDM stuff as well.

@michael gudgeon - Have you checked out Making Times' Transcendental fest at Fort Mifflin in SW Philly near the Phila International Airport? It's every September. Lots of techno and ambient. Usually a good time. 2-3 days. I usually just do one day

yeah i did get to see bon iver, and anderson paak that were def highlights of non edm stuff, but all the energy and dancing was pretty unmatched, felt like all the late night stages were just on a diferent level

@Alan Parsec Paidup - Yeah, that seems about right. Certainly back while all DJs still broadcast out of the main studio

@lizbot "the last time I remember driving in Poughkeepsie!" our guitar player had a girl (cousin? Girlfriend? Both? Never got the clear pic on that) who would book us up there ever 6 weeks or so, so we'd make the trip from Philly ; great pizza though!!!

@lizbot i have not, i've been to firefly 2014 and roo 2018, that sounds really great, i guess the phase in my life now, i don't get to see live music all that much, but i do get excited thinking about the shows and bands i still want to see!

@michael gudgeon - The vibe at Making Time Transcendental is usually good. To its credit, there are many sizes of stages and some are indoors, some outdoors, so you can vary your experience. Also usually has cool art installations

and would def experience a festival again when the time is right

They used to have great festival weekends on penns landing - river blues, jambalaya jam stand out

@Randy Marthins - haha, no problem! I used to go up that way a lot as a teen to go on camping trips in the Hudson River Valley, but haven't been in that area much for a long time

I made up a joke - a German immigrant got a job as a riveter; he was lucky enough to get a job on this bridge crossing the Hudson River, but the bridge had no name. They tried and tried to come up with one, but decided "let Fate name our bridge" One day, the people financing the project came upon the riveter while he was working. @Randy Marthins - YES. Mac Machines! The Electric Factory is an infinitely better name than boring "Franklin Music Hall" The name was the best thing that venue had going for it pre-renaming. Otherwise, terrible sightlines there! The worst is winding up in the area under the balcony on the rightside. No view of stage but a large area that gets filled when sold out or nearly sold out shows! Ended up there the last time Echo & The Bunnymen came and was pissed!

@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - I especially like the derpy awkward adolescent male cardinals when their crests haven't fully come in yet and they're all splotchy with drab feathers and spots of red! They just look like the bird embodiment of that voice-breaking pimply teen boy on The Simpsons. Their reward is that, if they make it through adolescence, they end up being some of the coolest looking birds!

@Alan Parsec Paidup - ugh, yeah we can't seem to build new...or hell, even maintain...infrastructure anymore. I love a good bridge! I walked with my daughter all the way across the Golden Gate and the Brooklyn Bridge...and the Ben Franklin a few times. She was very little when we crossed the Golden Gate and she needed to pee halfway through, but we made it! THe biggest challenge was finding a business she could pee in on the other side that was walking distance!

(Couldn't help mentioning it as I have a Degree in Civil Eng.)

@Randy Marthins - Owls are awesome, but man, I saw a crazy scratch on the forehead of my husband's cousin's husband when we visited them in Vermont. He jogs every morning in Shelburne Farms and he must've jogged too close to an owl's nest. HUGE owl. like a great-horned, swooped down on him and scratched him!

@Alan Parsec Paidup - Well I live in NWest Philly, so I'm slightly biased, but the Wissahickon stone arch bridge is undeniably beautiful! But as far as the big Philly bridges, I've always been partial to the Ben Frank cuz I grew up taking the PATCO HiSpeed Line in to Philly from South Jersey and the view of the Delaware River going over the bridge was always exciting to me as a kid. Still a great bridge to walk across in the spring, provided you bring a sunhat!
