Folk inspired metal! This will bring much joy to the people of my village.

One of my favorite fusion genres, theres so much you can do with it

Gosh yeah, when you see the power chords in classical music being used all the time in metal as well it's pretty cool.

I was discussing this yesterday, I feel like folk and classical have a huge overlap with metal (esp black) which is partly why i love it so much since its so diverse

Folk is way more classical when you think about it. The egg definitely came first there.

of the 3, i am closest to the classical background and I think I remember someone comparing a piano cover of some famous metal song to Phillip Glass's minimalism

Also love the random instruments people use (I have accordion, bagpipes, flute, Xun - a chinese flute - and a fully acoustic black metal album with brazilian instruments all lined up for today)

Kerroffle I always felt like metal is closer to classical in song structure and development of motifs than folk, they feel very distinct to me

Thinking about it, I don't feel it would be inaccurate to say that classical music is just really expensive and real fancy folk music.

I spent a lot of time at Julliard when I was young, but only because my girlfriend went there. The things I heard in the practice rooms was weird at times as well as scales. Not sure what country it came from. lol

Haha that would check out, I've been listening to a lot of avant garde classical lately and that stuff is weird for sure

I IV V has been around the block for sure.

avant garde classical really is out there. They probably felt boxed by tradition and needed to escape :)

The Soviet avant garde has to be my favorite but yeah, them and the atonal composers were definitely trying to break from a stale harmonic tradition

And they still call Stravinsky modern classical, but he is way out there.

Even the classiest need to break loose from time to time lol

I would say not as much as his contemporaries, he was more rooted in the Russian ballet tradition

But yeah haha, love classically inspired metal for that reason

Every time I listen to kaatayra I like it more somehow

highly recommend these two bands: Malokarpatan & Mamaleek

Love them both! Mamaleek especially

I think he never spoke a mumblin word and kurdaitcha by mamaleek are their best, not the biggest fan of the newest stuff but I haven't listened to it much

That's super cool, I knew someone who was super into them and had the classic masked photo as his pfp for everything

i didnt even know who Mamaleek was and I walked out stunned.

I think I had tickets to Chat Pile in NYC but my friend was sick and I was in a sling so we decided not to go

I'm sure they will return at some point. 🤘

I hope so, I always miss shows because they're at inconvenient times or something comes up

Like the Emperor one in NYC, really wanted to go for that but I had an exam the next morning lol

I was all pumped to see Vader and they cancelled the show b/c their travel visa was held up. Such a bummer.

market is over saturated with bands. This seems true for most genres now.

I guess moreso that everything is so easily accessible. I don't mind the saturation, easier to find good niches, just need to tune out most stuff

Morning Bike R! There's still bands that refuse to be on streaming and only release physicals but it can become quite gimmicky

I get it, since streaming takes a lot of advantage, and only seems to pay for big hits. I'm sort of on board, but it does make it harder to hear some of them

... and that's why WPRB is so important!

I definitely agree and I personally collect vinyl but when you're only dropping extremely limited copies for 100s of dollars that's when I'm out

Thinking of mach-hommy and DMCAing anyone who uploads his music, only releasing on vinyl for like $300

That's a surefire way for me to not only avoid touching someone's music but actively spreading negativity about them 💀

Gatekeeping at that level is just ridiculous.

i guess that's one way to buck the system.

Yeah -- vinyl is awesome, but can go into $$. Cassettes are interesting

I try not to pay more than $30 for anything new, the PREX sale bins have some great things now and then

Cassettes seem pretty cool as well, theres a subreddit for metal cassettes that I've seen some great releases on

yeah vinyl pricing can get crazy. One vinyl club i subscribe to said the cost of vinyl is going up in 2026. 👎

Great time to get into collecting, buy high sell low as they say

uggh Record Store Day coming up. I hate when people pump up prices on those releases.

Also, big love for the Trhä earlier. One of my favorite black metal bands

They have so much stuff out there it's crazy, guy keeps putting out a new album every few months
