Thank you, sir!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:21:46 PM
Mike, a LONG version of one of your favorite songs coming up
Mike Constantine 12:22:56 PM
Sounds like I'll be disturbing the neighbors
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:23:23 PM
please do. This is a long version of Abacadabra
Mike Constantine 12:24:06 PM
Huh...didn't know there was one.
G Jax 12:24:52 PM
Jerry!!!
G Jax 12:25:20 PM
Abracadabra this song when it came out, but it's actually really cool here now and I love the guitar salon
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:25:21 PM
G Jax! It is what it is!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:25:55 PM
The Disco Mix!
Mike Constantine 12:27:00 PM
Ah....this must be it right here
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:27:20 PM
Yep
G Jax 12:27:52 PM
The biggest reason I probably hated it when it came out is because it sounded all new wavy and I hated that kind of stuff then. Plus, I was a big Steve Miller fan didn't sound like Steve Miller. But it's all cool now even the pop nonsense of that day was better than anything that comes out today.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:29:38 PM
Spoken like one of the wise men of our time. I'm with you 100%, although I always liked Abracadabra, not a "Joker" like track. But I was with you bro before AND after 1969
G Jax 12:30:02 PM
I still think the term sex and drugs and rock 'n' roll if it wasn't exactly coined by this song, it became more part of the vernacular after
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:30:38 PM
I caught Ian Dury stealing records in my store and had to rip them away from him
Mike Constantine 12:32:00 PM
Ha!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:32:19 PM
True that! I was very disappointed.
G Jax 12:33:49 PM
Really? That's a cool story. A buddy of mine his mother was a security guard at Two Guys. Remember that place? And she caught one of the radio guys from WIP, (which was a music station back in the day) stealing
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:34:46 PM
Interesting, G Jax. I caught people stealing where my only thought was WTF?
Mike Constantine 12:35:22 PM
Probably that Morning Mayor guy
G Jax 12:35:55 PM
Exactly. I hate thievery of any sort. My wife is a jewelry designer, and we used to do trade shows and well to do people that wouldn't even need to would be stealing shit.
G Jax 12:37:26 PM
WIP back in the day was sorta a top 40 station. The guy she caught stealing was one of their top DJs. It be like the equivalent of like one of them dorks from WMMR stealing nowadays.
Mike Constantine 12:38:24 PM
Yep....my Mother listened to WIP all morning until her stories came on
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:38:38 PM
G Jax, Mike C who is in the chat always talks about WIP
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:38:51 PM
Wee Willie Webber
G Jax 12:39:25 PM
Oh yeah.. WIP was the Mom voice. Playing in the kitchen.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:40:08 PM
G Jax, what you said about people stealing who didn't need to, totally true. I caught some very good customers stealing, some who I considered friends. Had to curse them out and throw them out.
Mike Constantine 12:40:25 PM
It was on when I got up for school and when I came home from school
G Jax 12:40:54 PM
It's where my first musical memory actually came from WIP. It's funny the first three songs I can remember in my life. We three totally different types of songs but they were all top 40 songs. So they had to been played on WIP. And all three of them I found that way later came out in 1966 so my first musical memories of any kind were when I was two years old
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:41:24 PM
That is incredible.
G Jax 12:43:36 PM
Those three songs… That's life, mellow, yellow, and Winchester Cathedral. Talk about diversity all that on One station. And they actually are my first three musical memories. Before the Beatles even.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:44:16 PM
Classics, appropriate for everybody!
Mike Constantine 12:44:33 PM
Mother bought me the single of That's Life
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:45:09 PM
Your mother encouraged your habits. What a wonderful woman!
Mike Constantine 12:47:53 PM
Indeed
G Jax 12:49:37 PM
Winchester Cathedral is a little oddball. But that melody got me at age 2
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:49:55 PM
It was great! #1!
Mike Constantine 12:50:11 PM
Yep...on the lighr blue Fontana label
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:50:38 PM
My hero, Mike Constantine. I still have it.
Mike Constantine 12:50:51 PM

Wednesday Jerry - a treat - I read back in the chat about stealing records. I never stole from Jerry's shop but in Junior High my friend at McCrory's might have put 2 records in the bag when I only paid for 1.
vildachaya1 1:06:04 PM
Did anyone actually steal "Steal This Book" by Abbie Hoffman? I had a copy but I think I bought it.
vildachaya1 1:07:25 PM
I always had a strange picture in my mind about this lyric "Why don't we do it in the road" - I could think of a dozen reasons...you could get run over
Mike Constantine 1:07:31 PM
Abbie was an interesting guy..In the 80's he was hanging up the road from me in New Hope.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:07:57 PM
VC, I'm sure people stole them! You know those old, early Jerry Rubin, Abbie Hoffman, and Tuli Kupferberg are very valuable.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:08:09 PM
Our kind of literature at the time!
Mike Constantine 1:08:20 PM
Inspired bt monkeys in India when the Beatles were there
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:08:54 PM
Ha! I have thought of that "get run over" angle throughout the years
vildachaya1 1:08:59 PM
Ah ok - there ya go - thanks Mike - Monkeys .... yes it is ok for them to do it in the road
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:09:27 PM

Thanks, Rob! It sounds better than ever, doesn't it?
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:21:54 PM
Hi Russ. You were always a gangster.
Mike Constantine 1:22:04 PM
Took me right back to Summer of 72
Rob from Maryland 🦀 1:24:44 PM
It does! Inspired by that song, I have left the show temporarily to listen to their top 30 British hit from 1973 "The Day that Curly Billy Shot Down Crazy Sam McGee" on YouTube. It was on the radio when I was living in Europe and i really liked it at the time. Though I'm not sure it's held up over the intervening decades
vildachaya1 1:24:51 PM
Russell - who'd you steal it from?
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:26:05 PM
Rob, interesting! And what were you doing in Europe in 1973?
vildachaya1 1:26:18 PM
There was a lot of phone tricks back then to evade long distance or even the dime for a call - Spit on a penny and put a spin on it while dropping it in the nickel slot was one of them
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:26:31 PM
Russ stole the book from the Salvation Army.

Rob from Maryland 🦀 1:29:57 PM
My dad was in the US Navy, stationed in Italy. We could pick up Radio Luxembourg, which after 9 pm switched to being an English-language station playing British top 30 songs. I heard Slade, Mud, and Suzi Quatro for the first time, and songs by The Sweet and Marc Bolan that were not hits in the USA. Very formative for my music taste to listen to British radio at the height of the glam rock period
Rob from Maryland 🦀 1:30:38 PM
And I'm playing that Hollies song again, because why not?
Mike Constantine 1:31:00 PM
Love that glam period
