The biggest reason I probably hated it when it came out is because it sounded all new wavy and I hated that kind of stuff then. Plus, I was a big Steve Miller fan didn't sound like Steve Miller. But it's all cool now even the pop nonsense of that day was better than anything that comes out today.

Exactly. I hate thievery of any sort. My wife is a jewelry designer, and we used to do trade shows and well to do people that wouldn't even need to would be stealing shit.

WIP back in the day was sorta a top 40 station. The guy she caught stealing was one of their top DJs. It be like the equivalent of like one of them dorks from WMMR stealing nowadays.

G Jax, what you said about people stealing who didn't need to, totally true. I caught some very good customers stealing, some who I considered friends. Had to curse them out and throw them out.

It was on when I got up for school and when I came home from school

It's where my first musical memory actually came from WIP. It's funny the first three songs I can remember in my life. We three totally different types of songs but they were all top 40 songs. So they had to been played on WIP. And all three of them I found that way later came out in 1966 so my first musical memories of any kind were when I was two years old

Those three songs… That's life, mellow, yellow, and Winchester Cathedral. Talk about diversity all that on One station. And they actually are my first three musical memories. Before the Beatles even.

Wednesday Jerry - a treat - I read back in the chat about stealing records. I never stole from Jerry's shop but in Junior High my friend at McCrory's might have put 2 records in the bag when I only paid for 1.

Did anyone actually steal "Steal This Book" by Abbie Hoffman? I had a copy but I think I bought it.

I always had a strange picture in my mind about this lyric "Why don't we do it in the road" - I could think of a dozen reasons...you could get run over

Abbie was an interesting guy..In the 80's he was hanging up the road from me in New Hope.

VC, I'm sure people stole them! You know those old, early Jerry Rubin, Abbie Hoffman, and Tuli Kupferberg are very valuable.

It does! Inspired by that song, I have left the show temporarily to listen to their top 30 British hit from 1973 "The Day that Curly Billy Shot Down Crazy Sam McGee" on YouTube. It was on the radio when I was living in Europe and i really liked it at the time. Though I'm not sure it's held up over the intervening decades

There was a lot of phone tricks back then to evade long distance or even the dime for a call - Spit on a penny and put a spin on it while dropping it in the nickel slot was one of them

My dad was in the US Navy, stationed in Italy. We could pick up Radio Luxembourg, which after 9 pm switched to being an English-language station playing British top 30 songs. I heard Slade, Mud, and Suzi Quatro for the first time, and songs by The Sweet and Marc Bolan that were not hits in the USA. Very formative for my music taste to listen to British radio at the height of the glam rock period

And I'm playing that Hollies song again, because why not?
