Hey Richard!

Sad that all big time rock shows are scheduled 8 or 9 months in advance. I remember a time (1971) when Larry Magid said we have an opening at the Spectrum in three weeks. Who's available. Turns out it was Black Sabbath, J. Geils and King Crimson. Still have the stub. $5.

Love the part in the FILLMORE doc where Bill Graham says every band the signed on to play the Fillmore's closing had some stipulations, except the Dead who just asked the date and time.....

I am back to WPRB after a long absence. I am sad to see the Jazz programming at WPRB has been reduced from four editions to just two. I especially miss Will Constantine JR and his alter ego Rico Calamari.

Stevie really killed it in the '70's. Sadly I've lost the seven inch that came with Songs....

I'm standing firm, as Willie said, "After taking several readings, I'm surprised to find my mind still fairly sound".......

Marcus, you didn't say that was going to be a sad story....😢

I bought a tshirt with an image of Abdullah Ibrahim. Dan was the only person I know who recognized him. I need better friends.

Dan I read a CCR book and it said Bill Graham loved them because they showed up sober , on time , did their show and left. He gave them huge bonuses. John always refused encores..

I grew up during that era but have no memory of Charlie Brown pumpkin special. Always uplifting to hear Vince

Only time I went to the Village Vanguard, I saw Stanley Cowell and Larry Coryell.

Recommending for your consideration the Bad Plus Trio with Ethan Iverson, the best left hand in Jazz. Ethan is no longer with the trio which has become a quartet without Ethan and it is just not the same. Please consider future airing of the original trio.

Ethan Iverson was caught in a bit of an ugly jazz scandal a couple years back, perhaps the definition of a tempest in a teapot....

I do not know of the scandal, but the same way Wagner is played is spite of the Nazi mess, the music of the trio is still worth it.

Unlike you, I've met very few great talents in my life. But I briefly met Dave Burrell. Could not be a nicer man.

Had a memorable day 20 years ago or so, driving Dave Burrell up to Princeton for an interview. I rememeber he told me he had a property in Sweden (where his wife was from) that he could escape to if things in the U.S. got too hot!

Easily the best pianist I've ever seen.
