Welcome to Monday Jazz!
Patrick White (1) 12:14:06 PM
Greetings to Dan and his listeners. Much brighter day with The Velvet Fog and the Duke
Patrick White (1) 12:14:54 PM
Sorry and the Count. That comment could get me banned from Red Bank NJ
Dan Buskirk (host) 12:15:20 PM
Hey Patrick! Station of the Star-approved opener for today's show....
Dan Buskirk (host) 12:16:02 PM
Mel does "Spinning Wheel" on the same record...
Patrick White (1) 12:18:00 PM
PRB should have station of the star coffee mugs with Dan, Gordski, Marvin and WILBO on them
Dan Buskirk (host) 12:18:34 PM
Ha!
Patrick White (1) 12:21:35 PM
Dans program serving as a soundtrack for a muted one of our Spies is Missing .Never realized Man From Uncle had a prequel movie.
Dan Buskirk (host) 12:24:49 PM
Isn't Robby the Robot responsible?
Richard Mitnick 12:25:46 PM
Hi Dan. I am back to WPRB after a long absence. It looks like WPRB is down to two Jazz programs, having lost Will Constantine and also the Sunday Jazz program. It is hard to tell genre for a lot of WPRB programming because of the program titles. Con you tell me if there are any other Jazz programs beside your show and Jerry Gordon's?
Patrick White (1) 12:29:14 PM
Hello Richard as to Sundays the great and mellifluous host Jeannie Becker passed away a couple of years past joining her co host Marvin Bradshaw in Jazz Heaven.
Patrick White (1) 12:33:55 PM
Wow Jazz Dolly Parton sounds great. Hoping her health improves
Marcus Watt 12:38:21 PM
Any track with Richard Davis makes me happy. Astral Weeks is a favorite.
Dan Buskirk (host) 12:38:38 PM
"Allowances" That's the word I was looking for! You make no allowances for his age, his playing remains gorgeous....
Dan Buskirk (host) 12:39:15 PM
Hey Mark! Yes, love Richard Davis, lots of great solo work in the 70s...
Patrick White (1) 12:40:14 PM
Priceless jazz memory.Hearing Charles Lloyd rant versus NY Times jazz critics at the Old Knitting Factory on Great Jones Street
Dan Buskirk (host) 12:43:07 PM
I got to see him pretty regularly in Oakland in the '90s, always with the masterful Billy Higgins....
Patrick White (1) 12:46:32 PM
I guess he played at Yoshis Jazz club
Marcus Watt 12:47:25 PM
Wasn't Charles the first person to hire John Abercrombie? Saw John a couple of times, once with Jack DeJohnette's New Directions with Eddie Gomez and Lester Bowie at the Main Point
Dan Buskirk (host) 12:48:10 PM
Yes! We promoted the shows at KUSF and could always just "sign ourselves in" to any shows. Great memories, eating sushi and seeing the best.
Patrick White (1) 12:49:56 PM
Good info Marcus. I never knew the main Point did jazz shows.
Patrick White (1) 12:56:12 PM
Was able to watch a wigged out Naked City episode last week with the Holy Trio of a young Suzanne Pleshette,Al Lewis and Roger Carmel.
Dan Buskirk (host) 12:58:10 PM
Wow! Watched Roger Carmel and Barry Morse in the bawdy THE TELEPHONE BOOK free on YouTube from 1971. A Little Annie Fanny type goes looking for her favorite obscene phone caller....
Patrick White (1) 1:01:45 PM
I see Barry Morse weekly on those still great Fugitive reruns. Truly a modern day Inspector Javert
Dan Buskirk (host) 1:02:15 PM
"I don't philosophize, I hunt."
Dan Buskirk (host) 1:06:14 PM
Barry Morse is very funny as the tireless porn actor. "There's a little space for you down around my right calf...."
Patrick White (1) 1:17:49 PM
I wore out my Sketches of Spain LP.My favorite Miles. Was so disappointed NBC didn’t use the music as a theme for the Barcelona Olympics. One of my frequently ignored letters
Dan Buskirk (host) 1:18:43 PM
You hear Miles referenced in culture about 10 times more than you actually hear his music.....
Patrick White (1) 1:22:30 PM
I remember seeing him at Kool Jazz Festival at Penns Landing with his back to the audience. I was new to Jazz then. I thought he was getting ready to say a Latin Mass
John Hubbard 1:24:53 PM
Beautiful,
John Hubbard 1:25:36 PM
Beautiful.
Dan Buskirk (host) 1:27:54 PM
Nice to see you here John! Thanks so much for your hospitality, had a great time yesterday!
Dan Buskirk (host) 1:28:06 PM
And Nancy too!
John Hubbard 1:28:38 PM
it's always a fun time for mme.
Dan Buskirk (host) 1:31:10 PM
Me too. Searching now for some of the things i heard.....
jim haku 1:50:01 PM
Yes, great stuff.
Marcus Watt 2:01:01 PM
25 of so years ago I saw Arthur Blythe quartet, David Murray quartet with John Hicks, and amazingly Steve Lacy's group. It was at Damrosch Park at Lincoln Center and it was free. Anyone else catch that show?
Dan Buskirk (host) 2:02:16 PM
Wow! I wish...
Dan Buskirk (host) 2:05:30 PM
Alice Cohen, formerly of the Vels!
Dan Buskirk (host) 2:25:08 PM
the bonus stuff on this HORSES reissue is pretty great...[
Marcus Watt 2:28:06 PM
As I'm much older than you, I have to mention that I saw Patti at the Bijou Cafe in 1976.
Bike R 2:29:41 PM
props @Marcus W!
Marcus Watt 2:31:09 PM
I certainly remember the Vels.
Dan Buskirk (host) 2:37:10 PM
Gotta dig out my Vels vinyl....
Marcus Watt 2:44:14 PM
Singer sounds a bit like Ann Magnuson.
Dan Buskirk (host) 2:46:36 PM
She was a street musician when I lived in S.F. in the '90s, The Space Lady...
Dan Buskirk (host) 2:48:41 PM
World of Pooh with Barbara Manning
Patrick White (1) 2:51:19 PM

Dan Buskirk (host) 2:51:55 PM
Thanks Patrick! Take carre!
Marcus Watt 2:58:21 PM
Hey, I saw Fleetwood Mac when they had Danny, Christine, and Bob Welch.
Marcus Watt 3:01:37 PM
And they killed doing a couple of Peter Green songs.
