🤣🤣 The Sora walks slowly through shallow wetlands a bit like a chicken that has had too much coffee, nervously flicking its tail and exposing the white feathers below.

I get it wrt sun :-) And yes, Soras and all rails no matter what their size can be tricky to find. My first link was to the photos the discoverer snapped. And Ears is spot-on about how the Sora walks!

There's a bird preserve on Long Island where songbirds are accustomed to being fed. They'll take seeds from your hand if you're still.

@DJ Sharke, from that article: "They often stay hidden in dense vegetation, but forage in the open and swim across open water on occasion. Soras tend toward secrecy". Plus they vegetation is quite often taller than they are, and they are patterned in a way that renders them difficult to see especially if motionless
