Good afternoon. No way, was just listening to the most excellent Turned Out A Punk (Damian of Fucked Up) podcast with Laura from Superchunk. They talked about the early days of Merge and mentioned the Metal Picture 7". so good.

Once I played a prank on my now-wife. We were both getting ready to go to work, having eaten breakfast. I was ready to leave first, so right after I had gathered everything including making lunch and put it in my backpack, I put on Flipper's "Brainwash", the Sex Bomb B-side locked groove 7-inch...

Only saw Flipper once, around 20 years ago. They were good, but Bruce kept inviting drunk friends onstage to sing, so it was kinda like watching a Flipper cover band. After the show, the people I was with wanted to go drinking but it was 1:30 AM, and I was two rivers and three trains away from my bed, so I decided to skip out and jumped into the first cab I saw. -- Only it wasn't a cab, just a random yellow car I mistook for one, & the woman whose backseat I leapt into (rightfully) screamed.

and left the house. She came downstairs a few minutes later and a few minutes after that realized that something was amiss ... this weird song just kept going on and on. She did figure out that it was a locked groove record and turned off the stereo.

I don't think I had ever played Brainwash for her so she had NO idea what was going on at first

I played a similar prank on my then-wife.

She's still my wife. But she was back then too..

iirc, I read that at Flipper's ?first appearance in DC (at the 930 club), they played the same opening chords for something like 45? minutes until only the faithful were left. Then they put on an amazing show. Sadly, they didn't do that on their next appearance which is when I saw them

I wish I would have been driving with someone when you played flipper..fun to see their reaction to music they probably wouldn’t hear on their own

Yeah I never jumped back on the vinyl bandwagon all that much and yes I get it, they DO sound better but CDs are the right level of convenient for me,

you know, some have religion about how to listen to things, but I say, just make it happen and love music in whatever format you've got it. Let's band together in our love for music that doesn't suck.

that said, I like vinyl because it's pretty and i can find it more easily in my house haahahah

I worked at DiscMakers in Pennsauken until about two or three years ago. You'd be shocked how many CDs we produced

The most fun I've ever had at a show was pogoing in the rain with 150 Algerian kids drunk on Corona at Central Park Summerstage while Rachid Taha slammed through this cover of "Rock the Casbah". RIP to that legend.

The album Italian Flag by Prolapse is one of my all-time favorite albums and this song is giving it a run for the money

I can't believe I didn't know them before! That album was also recommended to me, I can't wait.

I bought Italian Flag based on a recommendation from a friend without having heard a single song from it. I *always* make sure I've heard a song or three or more before I buy an album. It is an amazing record!
