Lizbot (host) 5:05:54 PM
Hi Evan St. Jacques! Oui oui! A perfect baroque pop song about...Parisian ghosts maybe
Guelo <3 5:08:57 PM

Lizbot (host) 5:09:26 PM
@Guelo <3 - Yeah, love the horn section here too
Lucy Catemoji 5:09:42 PM
slab!!!!!!
Lizbot (host) 5:09:48 PM
@Evan St. Jacques - I read an interview with Cale about that song once. He was evasive!

@Number 6 - Getting adjusted to the new console!
Lucy Catemoji 5:13:59 PM
Bonjour Mme DJ !
Number 6 5:15:08 PM
@Lizbot- A little bit of adjustment needed.
Lizbot (host) 5:15:16 PM
@Lucy Catemoji - Bon après-midi!
Lucy Catemoji 5:15:21 PM
Post-dots and loops stereolab is so great. I hope the critical reappraisal that has been falling on Cobra makes its way to the two after it
Lizbot (host) 5:18:37 PM
@Lucy Catemoji - Peng was my first favorite Stereolab album. I love the track "Perversion" so much. Used to listen to it to wake myself on my way to my bookstore job in my early 20s. But at that point the only full-length albums they had were Cobra and Phases Group Play Voltage in the Milky Night and before.
Lucy Catemoji 5:20:39 PM
I actually haven't given peng that many spins
Lizbot (host) 5:21:01 PM
@Lucy Catemoji - I love Cobra a lot, but I also listened to a their EPs heavily back then, and now I think of them as having two distinct eras: the fuzzier/noiser pre-Emperor Tomato Ketchup era, and post-that.
Alex Crowe 5:21:20 PM
Hi Lizbot! Good laundry doin music.
Lizbot (host) 5:21:48 PM
@Lucy Catemoji - But I will always miss the harmonizing of Mary Hansen and Laetitia's voices. I'm grateful I got to see them a few times live before Mary's tragic early death.
Lizbot (host) 5:21:58 PM
Bonjour Alex Crowe!
Lucy Catemoji 5:22:58 PM
Ahh that's so amazing. I think Margerine Eclipse is terribly underrated but symbolically it's nowhere near the same. RIP
Lizbot (host) 5:23:23 PM
@Alex Crowe - Happy to provide a laundry soundtrack! I was running perilously low on clean laundry by the end of my travels! The first two places I stayed had vexing Miele washers, but at least I could do my laundry. The rest of the trip I was hauling dirty laundry. Did a big ole mountain of laundry upon my return!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:25:14 PM
Bienvenue de retour de France, Lizbot!
Lizbot (host) 5:25:42 PM
@Lucy Catemoji - It took me a while to warm up to Margarine Eclipse, but I like it a lot more than I used to. At the time of its release, it didn't feel like a "real" Stereolab album to me, without Mary.
Richard of Rocky Hill 5:25:45 PM
@ Lizbot (host) And while Alex is doing laundry, I'm vacuuming and dusting. Mon Dieu!
Lizbot (host) 5:25:57 PM
Bonjour Rob from Maryland 🦀! Merci!
Lizbot (host) 5:26:30 PM
Bonjour Richard of Rocky Hill!
Lizbot (host) 5:26:43 PM
@Richard of Rocky Hill - A noble cause!
Lizbot (host) 5:26:59 PM
@Richard of Rocky Hill - I hope you're dancing with the vacuum!
Alex Crowe 5:27:27 PM
Thursday used to be the unofficial start of the weekend shows. Now look at us!
Alex Crowe 5:29:36 PM
Of course Lizbot will keep me down on the farm with her tunes.
Lizbot (host) 5:29:39 PM
@Alex Crowe - Fête du vacuum and laundry!
Richard of Rocky Hill 5:29:45 PM
When "Les métamorphoses", I thought, instrumentally that sounds like late 1960s Bob Dylan. And then Jacques Dutronc began singing .. Oh, oui, beaucoup!
Lizbot (host) 5:32:15 PM
@Alex Crowe - How can they keep me down on the farm now that I've seen Paree?!
Richard of Rocky Hill 5:32:47 PM
@ Lizbot (host) Well, yes, but it's an electric vacuum cleaner so our danser à deux consists mainly of me trying to keep it from stepping on my feet ;-D
Richard of Rocky Hill 5:33:31 PM
Thanks, Google Translate, for making it seem like I write & speak French ... which I don't!
G Jax 5:36:27 PM

Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:41:26 PM
what is society built on?
Dennis Lingg 5:42:17 PM
Society is built on moogs.
jimbooooo 5:42:27 PM
Do you want the positive, uplifting one or the one based upon exploitation?
Lizbot (host) 5:42:33 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - A question I think we all especially need an answer these days!
Lizbot (host) 5:42:48 PM
Bonjour Dennis Lingg! ha!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:43:00 PM
@Jimbooooo, the positive one, of course
jimbooooo 5:43:06 PM
What a jammm...one of my faves
Lizbot (host) 5:43:08 PM
jimbooooonjour jimbooooo!
Dennis Lingg 5:43:11 PM
Hi all! I love stereo total, I used a song of theirs for this video: https://youtu.be/YX7VoZep30M?si=LiNYKZ-mwLPMIHba
Dennis Lingg 5:43:23 PM
And bonjour!
Lizbot (host) 5:43:57 PM
The internet writ large should heed the wise words of Laetitia Sadier in this song: "responsible for what I say"!
Lizbot (host) 5:45:33 PM
@jimbooooo - I want the positive one, but I have less faith in society these days!
Lizbot (host) 5:45:45 PM
Still, I appreciate how many songs Stereolab have about society!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:45:58 PM
Lizbot, heck yeah. There's a song by the DC area group Bad Moves called Hallelujah where the singers keep singing "shut it down" over and over again. And I am so behind that. It is my favorite song rn (when you do ya, hallelujah, I see through ya)
Lizbot (host) 5:46:13 PM
@Dennis Lingg - Oh whoa! I have to watch this properly after the show! Thanks for the link, I am looking forward to checking it out!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:46:22 PM
@Dennis, you have a point about moogs
Lizbot (host) 5:47:18 PM
@Richard of Rocky Hill - ah, I guess there is an overlap musically in that les metamorphoses song with that era of Dylan!
Lizbot (host) 5:48:59 PM
@
Lizbot (host) 5:49:10 PM
@Richard of Rocky Hill - Just you wait...The next song is for you to sing to your vacuum cleaner. Thomas Winter, like me, wants to know: Voulez-vous danser?
Lizbot (host) 5:49:44 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - I will have to track down some Bad Moves!
Lizbot (host) 5:50:07 PM
Moog over, Beethoven
Roffled Synapse 5:50:47 PM
Heya Lizbot! I do like this Gainsbourg album.

Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:51:57 PM
@Lizbot, here is Bad Moves' bandcamp site: https://badmoves.bandcamp.com/album/wearing-out-the-refrain. Sadly, they broke up earlier this year and I never did get to see them, having only discovered them about a year ago :-((
Lizbot (host) 5:54:27 PM
@Roffled Synapse - Faites-le maintenant !
Roffled Synapse 5:54:58 PM

Number 6 6:07:51 PM

Zach 6:08:11 PM
I think we should have a 1-3am show called “Cursing on the Radio” I don’t know how the rules work.
Lizbot (host) 6:08:41 PM
@Zach - Ha! Would release some tension, I think!
Number 6 6:08:55 PM
After 10 pm some things are permissible.

JUSTICE!!!!
Lizbot (host) 6:13:03 PM
I was in a lounge in Nice last week where they kept playing Air and other projects by the members of Air, like Nicolas Godin, and it felt right
Ossy 6:13:04 PM
liz- and the pastries there in Beast/Prince Adam's castle are so tasty, everything wonderful and marvelous as Princess Belle says just that! 💛💛💛
Lizbot (host) 6:13:14 PM
Bonjour Pethie!
Lizbot (host) 6:13:57 PM
@Pethie - George, Hattie & I were blasting those two Justice songs back to back on a boat on the Seine while George danced with a black umbrella, naturally
Lizbot (host) 6:14:44 PM
@Ossy - mmm, patisseries!
Roffled Synapse 6:15:49 PM
Are we eating cake yet?
Lizbot (host) 6:16:33 PM
@Roffled Synapse - Yes, let's! I want the St. Honoré or a finacier!
Roffled Synapse 6:17:21 PM
Such rich tastes! :)
Lizbot (host) 6:17:38 PM
throat-singing-adjacent sounds!
Lizbot (host) 6:18:29 PM
@Roffled Synapse - In reality I liked the boulangeries for their baguettes and simple but super fresh and tasty poulet sandwiches far more than the pastisseries!
Ossy 6:18:52 PM
ooo powercuteclashing pethie!!! 💖💗💞💟💕
Roffled Synapse 6:19:24 PM
Sounds real good about now Liz!
Lizbot (host) 6:22:16 PM
@Roffled Synapse - yeah, I could a fresh crunchy baguette to eat all over the console in the studio! (I would NEVER!) but one can dream!
Dennis Lingg 6:23:50 PM
This part of the CD I just gave up trying to figure out what song I was on, every song seemed like 2 or 3 songs around this time with them.
Alex Crowe 6:24:19 PM

Ossy 6:24:38 PM
Liz - something frenchy delicious! https://disneyrewards.com/blog/fun-tips/grey-stuff-disney-recipe/

Dennis Lingg 6:25:15 PM
Lovely on headphones.
Lizbot (host) 6:25:23 PM
@Alex Crowe - Glad you dug it! It had been so long since I had even thought of Justice, (take that as you will,) and I really enjoyed returning to that album while on my trip!
Lizbot (host) 6:25:47 PM
@Dennis Lingg - These horns with synth = sublime!

Roffled Synapse 6:29:43 PM
Sure enough there is one in Philly.
Alex Crowe 6:30:14 PM
I hear DJs call tunes "choons". Is that a different thing than Choon choon?
Ossy 6:30:15 PM
liz - also since you had a wondrous time in france and speaking more of disney, check out ratatouille movie(high recommended!!!)
Lizbot (host) 6:30:42 PM
@Ossy - mmm ,gâteau aux myrtilles!
addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum 6:31:41 PM
Ah! The full compliment of Gainsbourges.
Lizbot (host) 6:31:52 PM
@Alex Crowe - hrmmm. I wonder what choon choon is to French speakers...It either slang or some nonsense word. It doesn't translate. Don't know if they're meaning choon as in tune!
Lizbot (host) 6:32:36 PM
@Roffled Synapse - I will be returning to New Orleans in February ,so at least I'll find myself in that French Quarter!
Ossy 6:33:02 PM
liz - avec l'adorable empressement de Belle à essayer la nourriture du château !!
Alex Crowe 6:33:10 PM
I only see it in a certain chat room, mebbe just a private joke.
Lizbot (host) 6:33:23 PM
@addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum - Indeed! And at least two of Serge's former girlfriends with Brigitte and Jane Birkin
Lizbot (host) 6:34:19 PM
@Alex Crowe - I've heard ppl say "choon" like that before, but not sure the meaning to a francophone band...And Grand Sbam sings a LOT of silly words and non-words!
Roffled Synapse 6:34:48 PM
@Lizbot, Hopefully the shock troops will be gone by then if numbnuts sends them there next.
Lizbot (host) 6:34:52 PM
@Ossy - Belle adore les tartes!
Ossy 6:36:44 PM
liz - and et surtout, elle adore lire des livres, même sans images pour créer son imagination !
Lizbot (host) 6:39:22 PM
@Roffled Synapse - Ugh, yeah, let's hope so! I intend to celebrate Mardi Gras there with my mom, who went to NOLA once in the mid-80s and has been talking about it ever since. I went once before and am determined to bring her to one Mardi Gras
Lizbot (host) 6:40:56 PM
This "Je bois plus" song is so beautiful, it gives me chills. I heard it on France Afrika Badu radio
Roffled Synapse 6:41:51 PM
I've been to the French Quater there a couple of times, but never during Mardi Gras. Still, there was not a lack of general insanity that would make Philly blush.
Pethie 6:42:06 PM
Bonjour Lizbot!!! Formidable!
Lizbot (host) 6:43:35 PM
@Pethie - incroyable!
Lizbot (host) 6:45:33 PM
@Roffled Synapse - Oh yeah, I am a BIT nervous about navigating full-on Mardi Gras with an octogenarian and a teenager!! I have only been to NOLA during the early parades, but not for Mardi Gras proper on the big day before!
Lizbot (host) 6:46:18 PM
ah! Stereo Total is using the word "Chouette" in this song! I learned that one from Duolingo before the trip! Chouette = "cool" BUT also "owl"!
Lizbot (host) 6:49:20 PM
@Ossy - Je vis pour les livres (et la musique)!
Alex Crowe 6:49:55 PM
Would not have chosen Oh What a Night for a rap bed. But it's working nicely.
Roffled Synapse 6:50:14 PM
I did like the Takee Outee restaurants there if for the name alone. My friends from Louisiana all say to go to Baton Rouge for a saner Mardi Gras, but they say even better too.
Lizbot (host) 6:50:16 PM
@Alex Crowe - I know, right?! Delightfully surprising!
Alex Crowe 6:50:49 PM
a Starry Eyed Surprise???? *pinky to edge of mouth*

@Dennis Lingg - I absolutely refused to come inside from the porch on Tuesday evening despite being feasted upon by a vicious swarm of mosquitos because it was so beautiful out, and now I am paying the price! I scratched my bites with such fervor today, I drew blood!
Alex Crowe 7:10:53 PM
Is Radio France Internationale (RFI) Afrique the place?
Lizbot (host) 7:11:33 PM
@Dennis Lingg - Bonne nuit! Bon appétit!
Dale Hazelton 7:11:51 PM
hey now. had my ears on for a while.....good sounds.
Roffled Synapse 7:12:35 PM
The best part of where I live in Philly is the utter lack of mosquitoes. I think I've seen one this whole year in the park.
Lizbot (host) 7:12:45 PM
Bonjour Dale Hazelton! Glad you've been enjoying the show!
Roffled Synapse 7:13:09 PM
And that was on the river, and flew over from Jersey.
Lizbot (host) 7:14:31 PM
@Roffled Synapse - I experienced no mosquitos at all in Paris, and maybe two in total in the South of France! Then I come back to Philly all forgetting about how mosquitos looooove me, and they reacquainted themselves with my blood with a vengeance!
Lizbot (host) 7:15:20 PM
@Alex Crowe - Maaaybe. I have to check. Probably. The station ID they kept playing just said "Africa Badu!"
Roffled Synapse 7:15:23 PM
They are clever that way.
Lizbot (host) 7:16:09 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - For real! Parisians I met were so chatty and friendly, and I was there nearly two weeks!
Lizbot (host) 7:16:23 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - I reeeeally miss the bread!
Dale Hazelton 7:16:28 PM
so little rain this summer up here....no puddles or pools for mosquito larva to do their thing.
Lizbot (host) 7:16:49 PM
@Roffled Synapse - huh, I will have to check out Baton Rouge the next time!
Danosaur🦖 7:17:39 PM
Time for a little soft shoe with this song *shuffle shuffle tap*
Alex Crowe 7:17:40 PM
Using Badu in the search terms got me into a world AI hurt. Kept TELLING me I meant Erika Badu. TELLING ME what I was searching for!!!!
Lizbot (host) 7:19:02 PM
@Dale Hazelton - I forget where you are, but we got a lotta rain in NW Philly this summer, and even when we don't, the mosquitos find me!
Lizbot (host) 7:20:23 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - danse! danse!
Lizbot (host) 7:20:47 PM
@Alex Crowe - oh god, I can imagine! Stupid AI!
Dale Hazelton 7:22:52 PM

Lizbot (host) 7:26:01 PM
@Dale Hazelton - Ah! I must just have too much stagnant water nearby! I also live kinda close to a creek
Richard of Rocky Hill 7:26:53 PM
Ahhhh ... ! What would the Franprix Grand Prix: Paris 2025 be without "the Little Sparrow, the incomparable Edith Piaf?!!
Lizbot (host) 7:27:24 PM
@Dale Hazelton - oooh, Michel Polnareff might make it to next week's playlist!
Danosaur🦖 7:27:45 PM
Now that was the epitome of a French song!
Lizbot (host) 7:28:43 PM
THIS is a perfect Jacques Brel song. THIS build!

Dale Hazelton 7:29:57 PM
took me a sec to realize this was scott walker's source material.
Lizbot (host) 7:30:21 PM
@Dale Hazelton - oh yeah, Scott Walker was a HUGE fan of Jacques Brel!
Richard of Rocky Hill 7:30:39 PM
Padam, Padam! I literally have goose flesh as I type this. I spend New Year's 2003-2004 in Paris, and an absolute high point was visiting the Cimetière du Père-Lachaise, and paying my respects at the graves of both Edith Piaf and Jim Morrison.
Lizbot (host) 7:30:50 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - C'est exact!
Lizbot (host) 7:31:16 PM
@Richard of Rocky Hill - Oui, oui! We may hear from her again soon!
Lizbot (host) 7:32:57 PM
@Richard of Rocky Hill - I really wanted to get to Cimetière du Père-Lachaise! It was on my list, but alas, we didn't fit it in! ALso didn't make it to the catacombs beneath the city! there was a tricky ticketing system! I GUESS i'll just HAVE to go back!
Lizbot (host) 7:33:07 PM
@R Richard of Rocky Hill- more little sparrow for you!
Danosaur🦖 7:33:08 PM
Any Stephan Grapelli in the mix or is that too jazzy?
Lizbot (host) 7:36:45 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - Maybe next week?? I will most likely carry this theme into next Thursday's show!
Danosaur🦖 7:37:24 PM
Love this song
Alex Crowe 7:37:52 PM
I was betting on Charles Trenet after the Piaf. Time to hit the Powerball...
Danosaur🦖 7:38:46 PM
@Lizbot - Le Hot Club of France has some real swinging tunes
Lizbot (host) 7:39:16 PM
@Alex Crowe - ha! I asked a band serenading patrons at a restaurant on the Nice waterfront to play Trenet's La Mer!
Alex Crowe 7:40:01 PM
Menilmontant is my fave.
Richard of Rocky Hill 7:41:28 PM
@ Lizbot (host) That extended weekend lets me add to your on-air comment: Yes, Parisians at one time had a richly deserved reputation for being rude to American tourists. But ~ oui! ~ they've changed in recent years, recognizing this bad attitude was hurting them, according to a dear friend of mine, married to a French woman, who loaned me their apartment for my visit. Also, you and I both tried sincerely to speak French as much as possible. That now garners huge appreciation. Vive la France!
Danosaur🦖 7:43:29 PM
Wow! I didn't think the catacombs would be that popular
Ossy 7:44:37 PM
liz for earlier - ever tried stinky blue cheese with standard cheese and like it?
𓀠 ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 𓀡 7:45:00 PM
I see “Zeuhl” in your show description. Did I miss it?
Richard of Rocky Hill 7:47:55 PM
Merci beaucoups for the double Piaf. And I'll support Danosaur's request for some Stephan Grappelli & Django Reinhardt. Do return to Paris for Cimetière du Père-Lachaise ~ and por favour return with this theme next week, too! An additional request: the theme to the movie A Man and a Woman ~ the quintessential French New Wave romantic film and theme music to match! :-D
Roffled Synapse 7:49:37 PM
The Marie Antoinette statue got nobody paid.
Danosaur🦖 7:49:58 PM
I will definitely tune in for more French music next week
Li Maria 7:50:24 PM
Hi Lizbot! I'm so glad you had such a positive experience in France--you're inspiring me to look into going myself. I was enjoying your show so much that I cancelled my plans for the evening and just stayed home and watched the rain while listening. Thanks!
Alex Crowe 7:52:16 PM

wondrous french, pastries and cheesy blue smells today, liz!!
Lizbot (host) 7:56:20 PM
@Alex Crowe - You're very welcome! I don't think it's Radio France Internationale (RFI) because that seems to exist mainly to play French music in francophone African countries, but maybe it is!
Danosaur🦖 7:56:45 PM
There is a show on KSPC called Le Show that is all French music. It's on Saturday at 5pm Pacific time
Number 6 7:57:45 PM
