Hey hey, DJ Bohr!
DJ Bohr (host) 6:23:38 PM
Howdy TAndy! long time no see!!
TAndy 6:28:32 PM
Yeppers. My sleep schedule has kept me from waking up any earlier than 8:30 some days, but I have off this weekend so I'm locked in.
DJ Bohr (host) 6:30:10 PM
summer sleep schedules always get pretty crazy. glad you got some time off!!
TAndy 6:33:41 PM
Same, man! It was nice to have a Saturday off for a change.
DJ Bohr (host) 6:37:20 PM
i bet!
TAndy 6:46:08 PM
I was just hanging out with my bud earlier, jammed out to the rest of Tim's show before I came back home to check in now! I love this theme tonight, so much history and emotion behind much of the music tonight.
TAndy 6:46:27 PM
JAM ALERT 🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨
DJ Bohr (host) 6:46:34 PM
yep! theres such a cool intersection between americana and the wild west and such with trains
DJ Bohr (host) 6:47:54 PM
yeah no train show would be complete without Folsom Prison blues
TAndy 6:49:57 PM
I don't doubt the feeling is the same elsewhere, but I like how the feeling about trains used to be a longing for absolute freedom. Like, way back when, all you had to do was hop aboard a train going west to a new frontier. Knowing there's a whole other world out there just a train ride away. It ain't the same now that we can just drive anywhere.
DJ Bohr (host) 6:51:12 PM
yes! especially in earlier stuff i feel like that is prevalent. I think later on though, trains become more reliable and time becomes the main focus, ie being on time, the last train concept, subways, etc etc
jimbooooo 6:55:57 PM
Ahoy bohrrrrrrrr, enjoying the choo choo tunes
jimbooooo 6:56:39 PM
...and s'up Tandy 💥💥💥
DJ Bohr (host) 6:57:37 PM
hey thanks!
TAndy 7:02:22 PM
Yeoooooooooo
Richard of Rocky Hill 7:15:10 PM
@ DJ Bohr (host) I'm lovin' the train theme. Thanks for including Michael Daves' version of "Train on the Island." He's one of today's great generation of bluegrass lead singer/guitars.
TAndy 7:16:01 PM
Hey Richard!
Richard of Rocky Hill 7:16:28 PM
Hi ya TAndy!
G Jax 7:17:48 PM
Digging the train thing. Knew you'd get to Berlin. Always liked them and it wasn't because I thought Teri Nunn was hot.
DJ Bohr (host) 7:17:58 PM
@ RoRH thanks! im glad you liked it. Im always fascinated by more modern artists reviving/rethinking/reshaping a genre
G Jax 7:18:03 PM
Ok yes it was. Haha
DJ Bohr (host) 7:18:46 PM
@G Jax, glad you liked the berlin track!
G Jax 7:18:52 PM
But NOW I dig the music. Gotten into the electronic thing more and more the older I get
DJ Bohr (host) 7:20:01 PM
the funny thing is i think the more i do my show and music and such, the less appealing electronic music becomes. Dont get me wrong, I LOVE my synths and blown out electric sounds, but i do have growing respect for the rock and folk and jazz etc genres that dont have as many electronic elements
G Jax 7:20:52 PM
It's all what your roots are. I'm like you in reverse
G Jax 7:22:03 PM
And I'm old enough to have been around when that synthy electronic stuff was new and that was so not my scene.
DJ Bohr (host) 7:22:03 PM
what its sounding like to me is that when you listen to music, your ears and brain always trend towards something new and interesting
TAndy 7:22:19 PM
Sup G Jax!
G Jax 7:23:55 PM
Actually most people don't. They like what they like and don't stray far from it. People who listen to - and are DJs - of college radio don't fall into that camp
G Jax 7:24:29 PM
What up Tandy
DJ Bohr (host) 7:25:07 PM
true, i suppose that Djs and listeners of WPRB are stuck in a bit of a positive feedback loop, and that everyone pushes everyone else to get out of their comfort zone in a good way
TAndy 7:26:05 PM
I was legit listening to the same music all the time until I started listening to PRB more regularly. My taste has expanded very much since then.
G Jax 7:27:49 PM
Similar Tandy except for me it was WKDU in the 80s that opened my mind to different music
DJ Bohr (host) 7:28:30 PM
I actually had a chance to meet with the current DJs and student board of KDU
G Jax 7:29:20 PM
That wss a fantastic station at one time. They've lost their way in the last 10 or 15 years
DJ Bohr (host) 7:30:09 PM
yes sadly that appears to have been the case, iirc they only have live music a few hours a week
TAndy 7:31:26 PM
I've heard that sentiment a lot regarding XPN. Radio really seemed like such a wild place back in the day.
G Jax 7:31:28 PM
Yeah every so often I give em a listen - I still keep em on the preset in the car - and it never not disappointing.
DJ Bohr (host) 7:32:28 PM
i think a lot of college stations are facing some fairly large hurdles in terms of keeping Djs and listenership etc etc/....
DJ Bohr (host) 7:32:46 PM
could be a generalization but, with most students just listening to spotify and such, its a bit of a dying art
TAndy 7:33:09 PM
it seems the general population is happier giving money and clicks to sp*tify instead
DJ Bohr (host) 7:33:42 PM
no community building with sp*tify :(
G Jax 7:34:32 PM
XPN is terrible. I still will listen to them before ANY commercial stations but I don't know, I can't stand the DJs. I love the syndicated Many Moods Of Ben Vaughn though. That might actually be on now. I listen on podcast though
G Jax 7:35:12 PM
Yeah Spotify a
G Jax 7:36:02 PM
And a that streaming crap is huge with younger ones. None that I know listen to the radio at all
G Jax 7:37:31 PM
Next train themed show please do Desperados Waitin For A Train
DJ Bohr (host) 7:37:39 PM
o7
DJ Bohr (host) 7:38:19 PM
i think I am going to be ending up wiht more train music than i have time for so i will see if i can find enough music to do another show (or maybe just a train set, probably a good pun in there somewhere)
G Jax 7:39:20 PM
This one is my favorite phase of Paul Simon's career
DJ Bohr (host) 7:40:02 PM
i am a big paul simon fan
G Jax 7:40:35 PM
Yeah me too
DJ Bohr (host) 7:40:59 PM
i am beginning a baby little vinyl collection, pleased to say one of the first adds was graceland
Li Maria 7:48:45 PM
LOVED listening to this train show--thanks, DJ Bohr!
DJ Bohr (host) 7:49:40 PM
thanks for tuning in! glad you enjoyed it!!
G Jax 7:51:33 PM

Chris Mohr 7:52:06 PM
Hi DJ Bohr! Tuned in late, but enjoyed the last several tunes. And now Big Rock Candy Mountain!!! 🪨🍬⛰️
TAndy 7:52:38 PM
Thanks for the show dude, I'll try to be around before your last show for the season!
DJ Bohr (host) 7:56:07 PM
