Hello Hello! I just drove on bonkers flooded county roads all the way from Long Beach Island to Princeton! I don't recommend it! Stay safe out there!
Lizbot (host) 5:01:24 PM
Last program before I'm away on my France trip!
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 5:01:58 PM
Oh, I thought you'd gone there. :) And hi! :)
Number 6 5:02:25 PM
Greetings!
Lizbot (host) 5:02:49 PM
Hello Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly)! Nope! Not 'til next week!
Lizbot (host) 5:02:54 PM
Hi Number 6!
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 5:02:56 PM
Ahhh, gotcha!
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 5:03:00 PM
Hey again, y'all!
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 5:03:06 PM
Small group today!
Lizbot (host) 5:03:16 PM
The broadcast hasn't switched over to The Barge yet! Delayed reaction! Should after this ID
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 5:03:37 PM
Cool deal!
Number 6 5:03:46 PM
Woot, there it is!
addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum 5:05:47 PM
Hello hello! Glad you made it safe to the barge, Lizbot!
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 5:06:29 PM
I hope it'll dry up soon for you guys! I'm glad things are OK now. Crazy conditions today. There was an earthquake in my neck of the woods too.
Lizbot (host) 5:07:11 PM
Hi addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum! Thank you!! PHEWWW! Jersey and NYC have been getting slammed by SO Much Rain!
addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum 5:08:05 PM
Big news, we are fleeing Vermont and heading back to Philly as soon as I get some kind of job offer!
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 5:08:09 PM
Liz, I hope you have a FABULOUS, safe, and smooth trip! Let us know when you've made it back to the US. I'm sure you will. :) I had to cancel my plans for going abroad because of the crap that's going on right now.
Randy Marthins 5:08:17 PM
I highly recommend Le Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, if you're into cycling ( concludes Sunday, tho)
Lizbot (host) 5:08:26 PM
@Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) - Thank you! Yeah, it's a nerve-wracking time to travel!
Lizbot (host) 5:08:33 PM
Hi Randy Marthins!
addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum 5:08:42 PM
I will be so happy to be back in the land of frozen custard.
Lizbot (host) 5:09:59 PM
@addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum - I saw yr announcement! I'll eat an Evergreen custard in honor of yr return! Hell, I'm driving near it tonight on the way back to LBI , but this crazy storm will probably prevent me from stopping there!
Ears 5:10:05 PM
I've been considering flight TO Vermont, @addie. What are you fleeing?
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 5:10:43 PM
I'm a naturalized US citizen with no criminal record, so traveling shouldn't technically be a problem, but I'm still concerned because pretty much everyone is targeted now. It sucks that I have to wait for a couple more years to actually travel ... if things don't improve.
Lizbot (host) 5:11:24 PM
@Randy Marthins - Oooh cool! It ends this sunday or 8/10? If it ends 8/10, i might be able to catch some of it!
Lizbot (host) 5:12:14 PM
Hi Ears! I'd love to reenact my road-trip to Vermont from 2021. Such a gorgeous drive
Lizbot (host) 5:13:28 PM
@Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) - Ughhhhhhh. Yeah, it's so scary. I am always nervous before a flight, particularly a long international flight and with everything going on with detentions and of course air traffic control craziness!
Ears 5:14:29 PM
I am working on a time machine. I'm going for 1982, but I'd be glad to drop you off in '21 if I get it working
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:14:42 PM
@Lizbot, I'm glad you made it back from the beach!!
Lizbot (host) 5:14:47 PM
@Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) - Where was the earthquake? I was just so relieved yesterday that that earthquake off the coast of Russia didn't cause as big a tsunami as the experts predicted!
Lizbot (host) 5:15:07 PM
Hi Rob from Maryland 🦀!
John Coffey 5:15:37 PM
Hi Lizbot! I've driven Philly to LBI and Philly to Princeton. But never LBI to Princeton. Gotta unfold the AAA map to see how backroads that is. Be safe heading back.
Lizbot (host) 5:15:44 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - Yeah, Monday was the first day I swam in the Atlantic in 2025. It was perfect conditions Mon-Wed!
jimbooooo 5:16:07 PM
BOT 🤖🤖🤖💥💥
Lizbot (host) 5:16:14 PM
Hi John Coffey!
addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum 5:16:19 PM
@Ears it’s completely unaffordable. We pay $1375 to live in a house that has no AC, no dishwasher, no storage, and no laundry and is much too small for us. And all of the jobs here pay well below what the living wage is. Also Burlington is now a ghost town of shuttered businesses and unhoused folks that no one is helping.
Lizbot (host) 5:16:21 PM
Hi jimbooooo!
addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum 5:17:09 PM
Vermont is lovely to visit but totally an unrealistic place to call home.
Lizbot (host) 5:17:33 PM
@jimbooooo - Was it you who told me you met listener "Frank In New Egypt" once? This was years ago, so I might be confused as to who told me this story, but I drove through New Egypt, NJ today at the height of the storm and thought of Frank, the most zealous caller in WPRB history!
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 5:18:30 PM
@Liz, I hope you've read up on travel tips for these crazy times. I'm sure you have. :) The earthquake was here in inland SoCal. It's nothing weird here, but yeah, of course it's still a scary thing no matter where it happens. Thankfully, the tsunami warnings were lifted yesterday (or earlier today).
Lizbot (host) 5:18:47 PM
@John Coffey - Very backroads! I've done all three combos many times, and while LBI to Princeton is usually a very pretty drive, it's so weather-dependent! I was white-knuckling the steering wheel!
jimbooooo 5:19:28 PM
Frankly, no Frank from New Egypt has crossed my path. I only know Sue Egypt whom I met in a captain beefheart song
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:20:10 PM
And hi to everyone!
Lizbot (host) 5:20:12 PM
@jimbooooo - ha! I wonder who told me they used to live next door to Frank! They regaled me with his shenanigans!
Number 6 5:20:27 PM
@Lizbot- At least you don't have to take off your shoes anymore to fly.
Lizbot (host) 5:21:14 PM
@addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum - I love Vermont so much and have a great deal of nostalgia for it from growing up camping there with my school teacher parents who had summers off, but yeah, I think I need to be near more major cities!
Ears 5:22:21 PM
That's sad to hear! @addie. My last time in Burlington was probably in 2018. It seemed pretty vital then! I've been playing with the idea of buying a ski condo and living there in the no snow months & renting to skiers during winter season.
Lizbot (host) 5:22:58 PM
@Number 6 - True! But I don't mind that! I mind the crowding and the safety issues! And as far as TSA regulations, I WISH they'd do away with the 3 bottles of 3 oz liquids maximum per bag for soooo many reasons
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 5:23:10 PM
Yeah, so I'm stuck here indefinitely (in a place and region I've never been crazy about) with my doggy.
jimbooooo 5:23:16 PM
My arms have to work harder if I fly wearing shoes
addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum 5:23:44 PM
@Ears it’s a different world than pre-Covid.
Lizbot (host) 5:25:15 PM
@jimbooooo - So YOU were Hermes all along?!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:25:31 PM
Yay Addie (getting out of Vermont) and boo FME (can't travel)
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 5:25:35 PM
@Liz: That's why I carry nonliquid alternatives (all-in-one bath and shampoo bar, cream deodorant, tooth powder, etc.) when I fly.
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 5:25:51 PM
Because of the liquid restrictions.
Joe m 5:26:47 PM
White Overalls was so fun. Super poppy + Super fuzzy is such a winning combo.
jimbooooo 5:26:52 PM
My son's in Burlington for school and can't find a normal summer job. I had a job offer there, but would have had to commute 45 min from somewhere affordable. But I can see VT from my kitchen window a few hundred yards away here in western Mass!
addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum 5:27:11 PM
Heya Rob! Yeah, we are relieved to have finally made the decision to leave.
Joe m 5:27:16 PM
Glad you arrived safely Lizbot and hope for a decent return trip.
Lizbot (host) 5:27:32 PM
@Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) - I actually had dreams about waves last night, what with swimming in the Atlantic three consecutive days + all the news talk of potential tsunami in the west! I dreamt that ever increasing waves were approaching me, and each one, once it reached a certain threshold, had a projection on it that listed its height, and perhaps more delightfully, its name!
addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum 5:27:47 PM
Jimbo, that’s a bummer!
Lizbot (host) 5:28:15 PM
Hi Joe m! Yeah, I am very concerned about the flooding on the little farm roads through the Pine Barrens cuz it was baaad on the way here, and the rain is still coming down there last I checked
Lizbot (host) 5:28:37 PM
Soaaaaring Minnie Riperton voice there1
jimbooooo 5:28:57 PM
Yes, Minnie vibes!
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 5:29:27 PM
@Liz: What a coincydink! Dreams about bodies of water are about the unconscious mind (from the Jungian perspective).
Lizbot (host) 5:29:46 PM
@Joe m - I'm glad you like White Overalls! La Dusseldorf was a happy discovery I found while looking for bands from Dusseldorf (other than, of course, Kraftwerk,) while visiting there last summer
jimbooooo 5:31:56 PM
Bot, I dreamt last nite that I was at Borders on Rittenhouse square washing dishes again!
Lizbot (host) 5:32:14 PM
@jimbooooo / addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum - I think a lot of people in VT are New Yorkers with summer homes, which must drive up the prices there...If I am to put much stock in the pplot of "Baby Boom" with Diane Keaton! But I've certainly encountered that set there.
Number 6 5:32:32 PM
@Lizbot- I did Wildwood to Princeton and back a few times, but in good weather.
Ossy 5:32:34 PM
Hi liz https://www.reddit.com/r/bleach/comments/15qfnj0/if_i_had_a_nickel_for_every_time_tara_sands/
Lizbot (host) 5:33:01 PM
Hi Ossy! Haha, nice Tara content!
Lizbot (host) 5:33:19 PM
@Ossy - That's one big flower!
Ossy 5:33:33 PM
especially the flower on her saliva smelly silly teeth, LMAO
Ossy 5:34:13 PM
and yeah in so much anime, she's underrated everywhere, never knew she was in bleach
Lizbot (host) 5:34:21 PM
@Number 6 - Yeah, I've done this LBI to Princeton and back somewhere between 8 and a dozen times over the years, but it is a loooong drive at best, and rough in bad weather! Once I finally made it to I-95, it was smoother sailing
addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum 5:34:42 PM
@Lizbot Oh absolutely, people from out of state flocked here in droves during Covid and started making wild cash offers on things and it’s never been the same since.
Lizbot (host) 5:35:06 PM
@jimbooooo - oh what?! 1727 Walnut! We probably discussed this before, but I was a bookseller at that Borders on Rittenhouse Square in the late 90s!
Ears 5:35:41 PM
Um. Me too
Ossy 5:36:16 PM
and yes it so burlington heavy pouring
Lizbot (host) 5:36:21 PM
@Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) - hrmmmmm. I have heard bodies of water have much significance in dreams, but all I know is, it COULD have been an anxiety-drenched dream, but instead it was very soothing. Each wave looked disturbingly tall as it approached me, but each broke gently
Ears 5:36:58 PM
I was there '93 - 95, maybe
jimbooooo 5:37:28 PM
Whuuut...I was there 92-99ish?

Lizbot (host) 5:40:46 PM
@addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum - haha, yes!
Lizbot (host) 5:41:25 PM
@jimboooo - I remember 3 Steves! I can't remember everyone's surnames now, but I remember one went by Steve O.
jimbooooo 5:42:46 PM
SteveO from TX, Stephen Yenchick, Steven the events guy...so many
Lizbot (host) 5:42:58 PM
Also, also! @jimboooo / @Ears - Do either of you remember a woman who went by the name "Stevens"! She had a big stack of black hair and always road a bike to work and she looked like Judy Davis!
Lizbot (host) 5:43:37 PM
@jimbooooo - Yes!! Ack! I can't believe it! We probably talked to each other way back when!
Ossy 5:43:49 PM
ooo your space lady susan!
Lizbot (host) 5:44:13 PM
@Ossy - Spacy susan vibes! Desperately Seeking Space-Susan
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 5:45:52 PM
@Liz: I've had similar dreams. I had a dream where menacingly tall waves crashed into a huge window of a building and broke it, but nobody was apparently hurt. BTW, check out Inception. The movie has a lot of Jungian symbols including bodies of water.
Lizbot (host) 5:47:03 PM
@Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) - Maybe I will. I know my husband liked Inception. But I have never been a Christopher Nolan fan, so I skipped it when he saw it in the theater
Ossy 5:49:06 PM
speaking of water, waves and rain.. https://cyndispivey.com/red-hunter-boots-26-days-of-winter-fashion-day-13/
Lizbot (host) 5:50:02 PM
@jimbooooo / @Ears - i was pretty much always at front registers. I started in '98, left in '01ish. I was working in three bookstores at once - Borders, Bookline International (used books, long gone. Was on 10th & Pine, owned by Inez Cobo-Gonzales), and Barbara's in the PHL airport at one point! Before that era, I worked at The Owl Bookshop in Bryn Mawr (also gone) and Atlantic Books in Cherry Hill (nightmare store full of mice and birds and the management kept glue-trapping the poor birds!
Lizbot (host) 5:50:52 PM
@Ossy - Popping red!
Lizbot (host) 5:51:36 PM
@jimbooooo - You probably only overlapped with me a tiny bit if you left Borders in '99. I started late '98/ early '99
addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum 5:51:58 PM
I’ve only worked at one bookshop, and it was Encore Books in Westmont, NJ, where I first met Pethie!
Francis 5:52:04 PM
This has such a Marc Bolan/T-Rex feel, which is a good thing
Lizbot (host) 5:53:51 PM
@jimbooooo - This means you missed the most epic insane store opening experience I had there/ a buncha co-workers and a manager unlucky enough to have to open the store on January 1st, 2000. A very drunk woman punched in the glass door of the IHOP across the street as we unlocked the door, and a whole scuffle ensued
Randy Marthins 5:54:02 PM
OZZY
Lizbot (host) 5:54:03 PM
Hi Francis!
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 5:54:03 PM
@Liz: I'm generally not a huge movie buff myself, but if something looks pretty darn interesting, I check it out. :)
Lizbot (host) 5:54:44 PM
@Randy Marthins - I've been listening to Ozzy/Sabbath all week!
Lizbot (host) 5:55:03 PM
@Francis - yes! I can see that! So good
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 5:55:37 PM
OZZY! I'm listening while petting my own Ozzy Dogsbourne. He likes to paw me whenever he wants to be petted. LOL.
Lizbot (host) 5:55:41 PM
@addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum - Oh nice! Real-life WPRB connections! Did you met Peth before or after she started her show here?
Francis 5:55:43 PM
Yeah - losing Ozzy and Albini in about a year is more than anyone needed. I'm getting sad listening to his awesome voice now.
Lizbot (host) 5:57:30 PM
@addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum - I also staffed at The Wooden Shoe back in the mid-90s - early 2000s, and have many stories from those years! But yeah, I guess in total I've worked at 6 bookstores! Most of them are gone...Wait...ALL of them are gone. JFC
Ossy 5:57:51 PM
liz - rubbery red rain hunters indeed and yeeah RIP Ozzy and Malcom Jamal Warner
Ossy 5:58:15 PM
addie - omg that's so awesome 1st meeting powercuteclashing pethie!!!
Lizbot (host) 5:58:43 PM
@Francis - His voice was unique and so incredible. No one had else had that timber!
Ears 5:59:09 PM
I worked at Garland of Letters, the bookstore/newsstand at 30th st, & Bill Green got me the Borders interview
Lizbot (host) 5:59:11 PM
@Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) - I do think Inception's concept seemed cool! I should give it a shot
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:59:23 PM
@Lizbot, good to hear about swimming in the Atlantic
addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum 5:59:39 PM
@Lizbot I met Pethie in 1999!
Ears 6:00:31 PM
Was searching for the 1 photo I have of myself at the register with Beatrix Potter Bunny Ears. Can't find it now
addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum 6:00:41 PM
@ossy it was a fortuitous meeting!
Ossy 6:01:33 PM
and cute too, as wel!!
Lizbot (host) 6:01:55 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - 'Twas good! Warmer than usual, and spotted not one but at least four live horseshoe crabs floating around me! Plus a pod of dolphins (Or porpoises...I forget the difference in their dorsals) swam just slightly farther out from where I was in the water on Tuesday! Also spotted what looked like a cormorant
Number 6 6:01:58 PM
The beginning of this song sounded like Pink Floyd.
Randy Marthins 6:02:08 PM
Thought this was "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" for 1/2 a second
Ossy 6:02:10 PM
And also impromtuly met jon solomon at prex store day 2023!
Lizbot (host) 6:02:25 PM
@Number 6 - Never thought of Red House Painters sounded like Pink Floyd, but yeah, I guess it does a bit!
Lizbot (host) 6:03:02 PM
@Ossy - Nice! Yeah, I think you made it to PREX for RSD more than once, right?I usually don't make it to Princeton that day
Lizbot (host) 6:03:23 PM
@Randy Marthins - okay, that I can definitely hear the similarity!
jimbooooo 6:03:29 PM
Bot and Ears... appreciate the bookstore flashbacks! Trying not to burn my dinner
Lizbot (host) 6:04:02 PM
@addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum - indeed! Whoa! I knew you guys were friends, but I had no idea you went back that far!
Lizbot (host) 6:05:17 PM
@Ears - Oh man, the moment I see the word "Garland of Letters," I can smell the incense and hear the chimes! I used to hit that place up when I needed to get someone a wedding gift and ran outta ideas. Just got them a Woodstock chime from GofL every time! I guess the lion statue is still there
Lizbot (host) 6:05:52 PM
@jimbooooo - Oh no! Your roast!
Ears 6:06:36 PM
Statue is still there. Store has 60% fewer books in it now, though 😐
Ossy 6:09:46 PM
liz - yeah been to downtown princeton beyond once and awww, one day we'll really meet in person! Still smells that it rained on that day to be canceled..but was for the best for the people and equipment.
Ossy 6:10:26 PM
Still went anyway to venture around princeton, especially the campus like fountain of freedom
addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum 6:10:27 PM
@Lizbot oh yeah, Peth and I have had many weird and fun times together over the last 26 years. I’m happy I’ll get to see her in person again sometime soon.
Rob from Maryland 🦀 6:10:47 PM
@Lizbot, oooh, horseshoe crabs!
Lizbot (host) 6:10:54 PM
@Ears - I remember the many new-age books there! Haven't been inside that store in a looong time. I lived in a studio apartment at 16th & Spruce in the late 90s 'til the mid-2000s, and walked east on Pine (my preferred route for aesthetic reasons) and then south to South St. Would always hit up my friend John & Scott at Space Boy Records. Also hung out at The Bean Cafe. Usually stopped in Book Trader back at original South St. location. Sometimes popped into Repo, but I was loyal to Space Boy
Randy Marthins 6:11:59 PM
I found the EXACT editions (same cover and printing date) of Slaughterhouse five and cats cradle that I read in HS, in a bookstore in Mt Holly
Lizbot (host) 6:12:50 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - My husband really loves horseshoe crabs! We drove to a Delaware beach during mating season to watch the crabs years ago. So many were belly up dead, rotting in the sun. Others were heading the wrong direction, away from the ocean after mating. George was righting all the still-alive ones on their backs
Randy Marthins 6:14:16 PM
@lizbot - I LOVE South street stories!!! I was sharing g and East SIDE Club one earlier today (that was in a basement on chestnut stret)
Lizbot (host) 6:14:20 PM
@addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum - Yay! Pethie is great! Love her show too!
Lizbot (host) 6:15:17 PM
@Ossy - Yeah, it stinks the WPRB DJ table had to be cancelled from crummy weather this past Record Store Day!
Lizbot (host) 6:16:28 PM
@Randy Marthins - East Side CLub! I saw a bunch of Jay Schwartz' footage from that place he shot for a Temple U project in the early 80s!
Ears 6:18:19 PM
Found photos of Alexine F & Christine H from back then, but not the one of myself
Randy Marthins 6:18:50 PM
That's right! You told me about that! I need to find it!
Number 6 6:20:04 PM
I plan on playing a lot of groups with weird names on 8/21, such as Wevie Stonder and Home Lobotomy Kit.
Ossy 6:23:36 PM
liz - totally, also least got to venture inside some of the university buildings..and it was a tour day on top of that! Brought home many things like some pancake place right next to prex!
John Coffey 6:28:12 PM
So many great late nights at the East Side Club! Another lifetime ago.
Lizbot (host) 6:29:19 PM
@Ears - I would have to take a deep-dive in some basement boxes to locate photos from that era! I remember those little local artist mini-exhibits in the store and someone making basically Powerpuff Girl fan-art that hung along the stairwell to the downstairs. I remember chatting with Steve O in the breakroom. Were you there during any of the Harry Potter book rollouts where we had to stay extra long?
the_dude 6:31:38 PM
Speaking of seeing DJ 's in the wild - the cheer-accident show was amazing!! So much fun. Cheers Lizbot and Number 6!
Lizbot (host) 6:31:44 PM
The sort of hand-clapping instrumental twee of the early 2000s from that last song, (the Pas/Cal one,) I feel like unfortunately gave rise to a certain kind of generic clip-art music track overused in YouTube videos, but I still enjoy the analog experience of hearing the original!
Lizbot (host) 6:32:00 PM
Hi the_dude!
Lizbot (host) 6:32:24 PM
@the_dude - So glad you made it! It was good to meet you and to chat!
Lizbot (host) 6:32:51 PM
@John Coffey - Jealous of the many amazing shows at East Side I was too young to see!
Number 6 6:33:14 PM
Hi the_dude, I was disappointed that they played for less than an hour, though.
Lizbot (host) 6:33:24 PM
@Number 6 - haha, you could play Sack Blabbath then too! Would be fitting as a weird name + Ozzy tribute!
Randy Marthins 6:34:08 PM
Barnes and noble FIRST opened on Chestnut Street - go to street view & look for 1420 chestnut street
Number 6 6:34:33 PM
Ha, I will have to check them out. Also Com Truise.
Lizbot (host) 6:35:48 PM
I played this Ladybug Transistor cover of Barry Gibbs' "Massachusetts" on my Hudson, NY/Western Mass/Vermont roadtrip in summer '21
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 6:36:25 PM
Yay, a Bee Gees cover!
Lizbot (host) 6:36:59 PM
@Number 6 - The issue was the venue had a strict 11 pm end-time in place and there were 4 bands as opposed to the usual 2-3 bands, so everyone did shorter sets, but yeah, I always love to see Cheer-Accident play a big long set!
Lizbot (host) 6:38:36 PM
@Randy Marthins - I remember the big Barnes & Noble on Chestnut, but by the time I worked at the Borders on 1727 Walnut, the Barnes & Noble was our almost-neighbor on Rittenhouse Square
Number 6 6:39:00 PM
Okay, so not their fault. I've attended other shows there where I thought they went longer. Maybe a new requirement?
Lizbot (host) 6:41:12 PM
@Number 6 - Not really. I mean Gina Renzi has been booking The Rotunda for 26 years now, and things usually have to wrap by 11 pm for various reasons. That was the case all the times we booked stuff there. But maybe way back it used to go later. I seem to recall Gate to Moonbase Alpha events that Aharon Varady arranged at The Rotunda going 'til midnight, but that was nearly 25 years ago!
Randy Marthins 6:41:55 PM
@lizbot - b&n was on the same side of street as the art institute, that's how I remember it --- and the MASSIVE GORGEOUS facade
Lizbot (host) 6:42:10 PM
@Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) - I LOVE that cover! LAdybug Transistor made it so lush! Have you seen that Bee-Gees doc that came out about a year ago? It's been on my list, but I haven't gotten to it
Lizbot (host) 6:47:15 PM
@Randy Marthins - oh man, I met two very good friends back then that I'm still friends with to this day who both moved to Philly to attend the Art Institute. I remember seeing art kids lingering outside that building all the time.
Lizbot (host) 6:49:28 PM
@Randy Marthins - And then my old apartment I had for most of my 20s was just around the corner from The Drake, which U.Arts used as an overflow dorm, so loads of art students there and it was a nearly weekly occurence that someone would break the no-smoking rule and set off the fire alarm in The Drake. The back of that building faced the back of my first floor studio and the kerfluffle from evacuating that big building woke me up in the middle of the night on more than one occasion!
Lizbot (host) 6:51:02 PM
@Rob from Maryland - As I spoke on air during that last mic break, I remembered the name of the horseshoe crab beach we trekked to about 15 years ago to watch the crab confluence during mating season: Kitt's Hummock! Funny name
John Coffey 6:53:42 PM
Happy Rhodes is a big fave of mine along with other WPRB Dj's. Wondering if Suddenly Tammy was on your music radar from the mid 90's. I love them both!
Lizbot (host) 6:55:35 PM
@John Coffey - I'd heard of Suddenly, Tammy!, but never consciously heard their music. I need to rectify that! I know they were local.
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 6:55:53 PM
@Liz: I haven't seen that Bee Gees doc. I didn't know about it. I'll have to Google it. Speaking of Bee Gees covers, on the show, you should play a cover of "I Started a Joke" by Low from A Lifetime of Temporary Relief, their compilation box set of B-sides and rarities. I have that album, but I don't know where I put it. :D I love that cover in particular. Beautifully melancholic and melancholically beautiful. :D
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 6:56:59 PM
Ooooh, Philip Glass!
John Coffey 6:57:18 PM
Any 8-10 hour car drive should include a minimum of 1 hour Philip Glass.
Lizbot (host) 6:59:49 PM
@Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) - Oooh, I like Low! Had a burst of revisiting a buncha old Low stuff when Mimi Parker died a few years back, but haven't broken out their albums in a while. I should play that cover for sure. Gonna have to track it down, probably for a ++good show at a later date!
Danosaur🦖 7:00:10 PM
Hello, Lizbot and chat crew!
Lizbot (host) 7:00:24 PM
@John Coffey - True! Puts me in the sort of pleasant trance I strive to achieve on a long drive!
Lizbot (host) 7:00:32 PM
Hi Danosaur🦖!
John Coffey 7:00:34 PM
@lizbot Suddenly Tammy were from Lancaster. That other indie Philly station played them today for 30 year flashback. Time moves too fast nowadays.
Danosaur🦖 7:01:18 PM
Nice blues version of this song
Lizbot (host) 7:03:08 PM
@John Coffey - Yikes! I saw a meme today someone posted about the internet now vs 15 years ago, but the photo for "15 years ago" was a Gateway computer with Windows '95 on the screen! 15 years = The new 30 years!
Lizbot (host) 7:03:21 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - I'm glad you're digging it!
Dale Hazelton 7:04:41 PM
hey now.
Danosaur🦖 7:05:00 PM
Things are moving fast that's for sure
Lizbot (host) 7:06:10 PM
Hi Dale Hazelton!
Lizbot (host) 7:06:22 PM
@Dale Hazelton - No mercy for Mercy Street
Danosaur🦖 7:06:23 PM
I worked at an Internet company in 1998 and had to explain to people what the Internet was.
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 7:06:41 PM
@Liz: Ooooh, awesome! That would be TRIPLE PLUS GOOD +++! :D I haven't broken out their albums either. I particularly love Mimi's singing for that cover. Ooohhh, I've just realized another cover they did of the Smiths ("Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me"). That is fantastically melancholic. It captures the emotions of the music and lyrics perfectly. I like the original too, but this Low cover really nails it.
Lizbot (host) 7:07:31 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - I'm pretty sure my mom still doesn't know. And my dad, he never had an email address!
Dale Hazelton 7:07:34 PM
saw the go-betweens back when 16 lovers lane came out. robert forster and grant mclennan's solo stuff is so good.
Lizbot (host) 7:08:22 PM
@Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) - ooooh! Low doing Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me sounds like a dream!
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 7:09:01 PM
@Liz: Yep. TOTALLY!
Danosaur🦖 7:09:16 PM
@Lizbot - Ha! They're probably better off for not knowing.
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 7:09:17 PM
I'll post a YouTube link to that later after I get off my phone appointment.
Lizbot (host) 7:10:20 PM
@Dale Hazelton - Oh wow, I ALMOST saw them for the tour in support of Oceans Apart, but I was on a trip in L.A. when they came to the east coast! I regret missing that so much. Last chance I had to see them before Grant died!
Lizbot (host) 7:10:34 PM
@Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) - Thanks!
Danosaur🦖 7:10:44 PM
That Peter Gabriel song was really good. Haven't heard it in a long time
Lizbot (host) 7:11:08 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - Yeah, these days that's more true than ever! I used to get so many calls from my mom asking how to do things online!
Lizbot (host) 7:11:54 PM
@Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) - And the end of Mercy Street by Peter Gabriel also had wave imagery!
Dale Hazelton 7:12:51 PM
i regret not going to see artists close by to me....acoustic strawbs, tom rush, justin hayward...not everyone's cup of tea i know but all special to me at some point in my life.
Lizbot (host) 7:13:04 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - I love the So album so much. I saw him perform it in full for its 20th...or 25th...anniversary
Danosaur🦖 7:13:07 PM
Yeah, see the artists you like before they're gone. Seeing X, Los Lobos and Ozomatli this weekend
Lizbot (host) 7:13:22 PM
@Dale Hazelton - oh wow! The Strawbs!
Dale Hazelton 7:15:09 PM
i saw xene when she was solo after 'old wives tale' came out. really good.
Danosaur🦖 7:15:16 PM
That's a strong purr in that station ID
Dale Hazelton 7:15:47 PM
danosaur - all in one venue?
Danosaur🦖 7:16:39 PM
@Dale Hazelton - Yes! All one show at the Pacific Amphitheater
Danosaur🦖 7:17:39 PM
Sorry to hear you're having bad weather. Hope everyone is okay.
Dale Hazelton 7:19:48 PM
i saw peter gabriel in 1978, came to my college and after the show saw him come in to the perkins pancake house. went over to say how good the show was and he saif 'by the way mate, can you give us a lift back to out hotel?' his tour bus pulled in just as i and my date and he and his lady
Dale Hazelton 7:20:17 PM
were pulling out and he said 'oh, here's me mates - i'll get out.'
Dale Hazelton 7:20:30 PM
was a cool memory.
Danosaur🦖 7:20:57 PM
@Dale Hazelton - Wow! What a cool encounter.
Dale Hazelton 7:21:50 PM
danosaur, it was for me. i doubt he remembers.
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 7:24:51 PM
@Liz: Here's Low's cover of "Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me." I think Alan Sparhawk has bested Moz in this rendition. :D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wA_S8TlLu0&list=RD9wA_S8TlLu0&start_radio=1
Lizbot (host) 7:24:56 PM
@Danosaur🦖- Nice! I'd like to catch Los Lobos some time! I'll be down the shore still!
Danosaur🦖 7:25:56 PM
Nice cover of Black Hole Sun. Always nice when someone puts their own spin on a song
Danosaur🦖 7:26:18 PM
Did she just multi-track this?
Lizbot (host) 7:26:27 PM
@Dale Hazelton - Oh nice! I'd like to see Exene some time. Of course I never got to see X
Lizbot (host) 7:26:59 PM
@Dale Hazelton - But I HAVE seen long-lived Dutch punk band, The Ex!
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 7:27:15 PM
@Liz: That earlier text got cut off somehow because it's too big. :) Let me type it again: I think Alan Sparhawk has bested Moz in this rendition. :D
Lizbot (host) 7:27:17 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - She must have! I love her covers!
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 7:27:57 PM
@Liz: I'm watching Peter Gabriel's B&W video of "Mercy Street" on EweTube as I type now. :D
Lizbot (host) 7:27:59 PM
@Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) - THanks! I gotta check it out after the show, maybe during my harrowing stormy drive back down the shore!
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 7:28:38 PM
@Liz: It's perfect background music to that! :D
Danosaur🦖 7:29:44 PM
@Lizbot - Yeah, I felt like this was kind of the quintessential LA band show. I have seen X before at The House of Blues in LA in 2000 so it's been awhile
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 7:29:55 PM
Ooohhh, I remember this "Black Hole Sun" cover!
Danosaur🦖 7:30:43 PM
@FME - I thought EweTube was nothing but sheep videos
Lizbot (host) 7:32:03 PM
@Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) - Ah, I figured that's what you meant! Even just the thought of Low covering that song- It's so well-suited for them!
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 7:32:34 PM
@Dan: It's because I like to watch YouTube as I count sheep ... as I go to sleep. :D
Rob from Maryland 🦀 7:32:46 PM
Hi Danosaur and FME!
Lizbot (host) 7:32:49 PM
@Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) - oh gosh, I haven;'t seen that video in a long time. He always went all out with his videos. And his early album covers had that great Hipgnosis artwork!
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 7:33:01 PM
@Liz: It's a sad song, so it fits Low's slow core vibe. :)
Rob from Maryland 🦀 7:33:13 PM
🐑
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 7:33:16 PM
@Liz: I dig that video because it has doggies. :)
Lizbot (host) 7:33:18 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - Yeah, I'd like to see them at least once!
Danosaur🦖 7:33:50 PM
Hi Rob!
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 7:33:54 PM
Sledgehammer! :D
Lizbot (host) 7:33:57 PM
@Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) - I am always happy to play Petra Haden a cappella covers!
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 7:34:11 PM
Ohhh, hey, Rob!
Danosaur🦖 7:34:18 PM
@FME - did you feel the earthquake this morning?
Rob from Maryland 🦀 7:34:19 PM
Hey Danosaur, it's really true, Skip is skipping out on his polka show?
Lizbot (host) 7:34:35 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - 🐑🐑🐑zzzz
Rob from Maryland 🦀 7:35:09 PM
@Lizbot, we played a couple of Petra H covers last night on ewetube
Danosaur🦖 7:35:25 PM
@Rob - Yes, sadly this Saturday is Skip's last polka show but he will still do his Monday morning show
Rob from Maryland 🦀 7:35:28 PM
@Lizbot, 🐑🐑🐑zzzz back
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 7:35:30 PM
I like that dog's (Petra Haden's band) song: "Old Timer" from back then ... literally last century ... 1994. :D
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 7:35:36 PM
YAY! STEREOLAB!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 7:36:14 PM
@Danosaur, not that I ever listen to either of his shows, but they're like institutions, aren't they? Did he give a reason?
Danosaur🦖 7:36:18 PM
Ooh, this song is nice
Lizbot (host) 7:36:45 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - I wish YouTube was nothing but sheep videos! Less damaging and addictive, possibly a sleep-aid for my insomniac self, and hey, there are some good sheep movies...that Wallace & Gromit one, anyway! I once saw a Fringe Festival performance of MacBeth performed entirely by sheepdogs following sheep-herding commands. I wish I was kidding.
Rob from Maryland 🦀 7:36:45 PM
Space Moth is a great name for a song, plus I like how it sounds
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 7:36:53 PM
I got the Sound-Dust album at Tower Records in Manhattan (I think midtown) right after it was released. And yeah, right before 9/11 too. I was at the towers on 9/1.
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 7:37:24 PM
It's one of my fave tracks from that album, Rob. :)
Lizbot (host) 7:37:46 PM
@Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) - Yes! That Dog was good! And I'm not complaining about the band name!
Lizbot (host) 7:38:15 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - Which ones?!
Danosaur🦖 7:38:21 PM
@Rob - he said it was the time commitment and he didn't want the quality of the show to suffer.
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 7:38:55 PM
@Liz: As K-9 lovers, of course we love it! :D
Rob from Maryland 🦀 7:39:24 PM
@FME, good to know :-)
Danosaur🦖 7:39:35 PM
@Lizbot - Was that performance called Mac Baaath?
Lizbot (host) 7:39:35 PM
I LOVE this drop soooo much
Lizbot (host) 7:40:05 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - HA! I wish they'd called it that and had more fun with it! Instead, it was dead serious. AND long!
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 7:40:09 PM
Speaking of sheep videos on EweTube, there's actually a nice long one of sheep grazing in the open field. I think the Calm app channel has that video. I can't quite recall.
Rob from Maryland 🦀 7:40:15 PM
@Danosaur, good for him, bad for fans of his show. Two shows a week is a whole lot of shows. He truly is an iron dj
Danosaur🦖 7:40:50 PM
@FME - that video sounds like a shear delight
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 7:41:16 PM
@Dan: ROFL! You're rockin' and rollin' with the puns tonight!
Lizbot (host) 7:41:33 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - Yes! I don't like pantry moths, but I am a fan of space moths of all kinds, and of course of psychedelic and fuzzy rosy maple moths!
Danosaur🦖 7:41:57 PM
@FME - Aw, shucks (smiles sheepishly)
Lizbot (host) 7:43:07 PM
Bringing it back to the late 90s with Massive Attack. I bought a big ole pile of all their singles at the point at which Mezzanine came out. Listened to this song a lot because Elisabeth Fraser over a trip-hop beat is a no-lose situation
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 7:43:27 PM
My doggy is a herding dog. He's an Australian shepherd and Rottweiler mix. He probably thinks everyone is a sheep. LOL.
Danosaur🦖 7:43:35 PM
@Lizbot - Oh, the mention of pantry moths brought back a childhood memory. I bought a candy bar and when I opened it moths flew out!
Lizbot (host) 7:44:07 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - ba-dum CHA! Where's George K to add to the pun-fest? And Brian D? All the punners stand up and be pun away! Danosaur will have to rep for all of them!
Danosaur🦖 7:44:18 PM
Ooh, yeah! Massive Attack one of my favorite albums. Listen to it frequently
Ears 7:44:33 PM
@Lizbot, I'm wishing you an incredible trip!
Lizbot (host) 7:45:01 PM
@Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) - yeah, when doggos herd their family members, it always makes me laugh, so long as they don't get to nipping anyone's heels! My dog is a sled-dog, but also herds us!
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 7:45:19 PM
Oh yeah, I love Liz Fraser collabs! And speaking of her and covers, she has a nice one of Chic's "At Last I Am Free." Oh, and Laetitia Sadier actually has a cover of that too with her Monade band. :)
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 7:45:20 PM

Lizbot (host) 7:45:30 PM
@Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) - Samoyeds I think were also used for reindeer herding, as well as companion dogs and sled-pullers, so it makes sense!
Lizbot (host) 7:46:05 PM
@Ears - Thank you! I am STILL securing tickets to certain museums and tours, but almost done! Now to paaaack. Oof
Danosaur🦖 7:46:10 PM
This whole era of chill trip-hop is my sweet spot
Ossy 7:46:10 PM
I heard this long ago
Rob from Maryland 🦀 7:46:49 PM
@Lizbot, Rosy Maple Moths are the best. And if one of them like Bryan Ferry it would be a Roxy Maple Moth?
Lizbot (host) 7:46:50 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - UGH. NO. The worst buggy food experience I had was opening a package of dry Cream of White and finding it chock full of maggots!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 7:47:07 PM
I'm loving the Massive Attack song
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 7:47:11 PM
@Liz: Gotta love them Sammies! The closest I had were huskies. :)
Lizbot (host) 7:47:42 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - It's a well-established fact that all rosy maple moths love Roxy Music
Danosaur🦖 7:47:56 PM
@Lizbot - Oh, no! That's no way to start your morning. Ick!
Lizbot (host) 7:48:20 PM
@Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) - Huskies are like sammies but turn up the insanity, energy and bizarre vocalizations to 1000!
Lizbot (host) 7:48:47 PM
@Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) - I enjpy watching videos of huskies, but I don't know if I can deal with one 24/7!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 7:49:04 PM
@Danosaur, that's awful, moths in your choco. But @Lizbot, even worse!
Dale Hazelton 7:49:15 PM
re: house theme....lisa edlestein was writing village voice articles about nightclubs as lisa e. and an nyu student living in the dorm next room over from my girlfriend.
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 7:49:48 PM
@Liz: I'd often conduct husky choir performances. LOL. My girls were hilarious. They'd harmonize with their woo-woos whenever they heard sirens or anything loud. :D
Lizbot (host) 7:49:56 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - Lizbot Lore/Trivia: My very first radio show was on Haverford WKRU in 1997/8 and it was a trip-hop show called Caught Between Stations.

Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 7:51:52 PM
This is a pretty dope track!
Danosaur🦖 7:52:07 PM
Recently read a book where one of the characters was a husky
Lizbot (host) 7:52:10 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - What bothered me so much was that the maggots were camouflaged in the white Cream of Wheat, so I poured it into the pot before I noticed them. BLECH
Ossy 7:52:18 PM
liz - maggots are a disgusting fuel to see!, especially in pupa stages!!
Ears 7:53:33 PM
I heard recently, about 60% of the Neanderthal diet.
Danosaur🦖 7:54:18 PM
@Ears - I guess they would be a good source of protein
Rob from Maryland 🦀 7:54:22 PM
@Ears, yes, the maggots making the meat/fat higher protein or something
Lizbot (host) 7:54:57 PM
@Dale Hazelton - Re: Lisa Edlestein- oh crazy! I think she is from, or at least lived for a stretch, in Jersey. I sometimes think of the "House" opening credits when I drive over Lake Carnegie every single week on my way to the station!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 7:55:13 PM
Love this Art Bears track
Danosaur🦖 7:55:24 PM
I'm glad I'm not a Neanderthal though some might beg to differ
