I'm a naturalized US citizen with no criminal record, so traveling shouldn't technically be a problem, but I'm still concerned because pretty much everyone is targeted now. It sucks that I have to wait for a couple more years to actually travel ... if things don't improve.

@Ears it’s completely unaffordable. We pay $1375 to live in a house that has no AC, no dishwasher, no storage, and no laundry and is much too small for us. And all of the jobs here pay well below what the living wage is. Also Burlington is now a ghost town of shuttered businesses and unhoused folks that no one is helping.

@jimbooooo - Was it you who told me you met listener "Frank In New Egypt" once? This was years ago, so I might be confused as to who told me this story, but I drove through New Egypt, NJ today at the height of the storm and thought of Frank, the most zealous caller in WPRB history!

@Liz, I hope you've read up on travel tips for these crazy times. I'm sure you have. :) The earthquake was here in inland SoCal. It's nothing weird here, but yeah, of course it's still a scary thing no matter where it happens. Thankfully, the tsunami warnings were lifted yesterday (or earlier today).

@John Coffey - Very backroads! I've done all three combos many times, and while LBI to Princeton is usually a very pretty drive, it's so weather-dependent! I was white-knuckling the steering wheel!

Frankly, no Frank from New Egypt has crossed my path. I only know Sue Egypt whom I met in a captain beefheart song

@addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum - I love Vermont so much and have a great deal of nostalgia for it from growing up camping there with my school teacher parents who had summers off, but yeah, I think I need to be near more major cities!

That's sad to hear! @addie. My last time in Burlington was probably in 2018. It seemed pretty vital then! I've been playing with the idea of buying a ski condo and living there in the no snow months & renting to skiers during winter season.

@Number 6 - True! But I don't mind that! I mind the crowding and the safety issues! And as far as TSA regulations, I WISH they'd do away with the 3 bottles of 3 oz liquids maximum per bag for soooo many reasons

My son's in Burlington for school and can't find a normal summer job. I had a job offer there, but would have had to commute 45 min from somewhere affordable. But I can see VT from my kitchen window a few hundred yards away here in western Mass!

@jimbooooo / @Ears - i was pretty much always at front registers. I started in '98, left in '01ish. I was working in three bookstores at once - Borders, Bookline International (used books, long gone. Was on 10th & Pine, owned by Inez Cobo-Gonzales), and Barbara's in the PHL airport at one point! Before that era, I worked at The Owl Bookshop in Bryn Mawr (also gone) and Atlantic Books in Cherry Hill (nightmare store full of mice and birds and the management kept glue-trapping the poor birds!

I’ve only worked at one bookshop, and it was Encore Books in Westmont, NJ, where I first met Pethie!

@jimbooooo - This means you missed the most epic insane store opening experience I had there/ a buncha co-workers and a manager unlucky enough to have to open the store on January 1st, 2000. Plus a pod of dolphins (Or porpoises...I forget the difference in their dorsals) swam just slightly farther out from where I was in the water on Tuesday! Also spotted what looked like a cormorant

liz - yeah been to downtown princeton beyond once and awww, one day we'll really meet in person! Still smells that it rained on that day to be canceled..but was for the best for the people and equipment.

@Ears - I remember the many new-age books there! Haven't been inside that store in a looong time. I lived in a studio apartment at 16th & Spruce in the late 90s 'til the mid-2000s, and walked east on Pine (my preferred route for aesthetic reasons) and then south to South St. Would always hit up my friend John & Scott at Space Boy Records. Also hung out at The Bean Cafe. Usually stopped in Book Trader back at original South St. location. Sometimes popped into Repo, but I was loyal to Space Boy

I found the EXACT editions (same cover and printing date) of Slaughterhouse five and cats cradle that I read in HS, in a bookstore in Mt Holly

@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - My husband really loves horseshoe crabs! We drove to a Delaware beach during mating season to watch the crabs years ago. So many were belly up dead, rotting in the sun. Others were heading the wrong direction, away from the ocean after mating. George was righting all the still-alive ones on their backs

So many great late nights at the East Side Club! Another lifetime ago.

@Ears - I would have to take a deep-dive in some basement boxes to locate photos from that era! I remember those little local artist mini-exhibits in the store and someone making basically Powerpuff Girl fan-art that hung along the stairwell to the downstairs. I remember chatting with Steve O in the breakroom. Were you there during any of the Harry Potter book rollouts where we had to stay extra long?

The sort of hand-clapping instrumental twee of the early 2000s from that last song, (the Pas/Cal one,) I feel like unfortunately gave rise to a certain kind of generic clip-art music track overused in YouTube videos, but I still enjoy the analog experience of hearing the original!

@Number 6 - The issue was the venue had a strict 11 pm end-time in place and there were 4 bands as opposed to the usual 2-3 bands, so everyone did shorter sets, but yeah, I always love to see Cheer-Accident play a big long set!

@Randy Marthins - I remember the big Barnes & Noble on Chestnut, but by the time I worked at the Borders on 1727 Walnut, the Barnes & Noble was our almost-neighbor on Rittenhouse Square

Okay, so not their fault. I've attended other shows there where I thought they went longer. Maybe a new requirement?

@Number 6 - Not really. I mean Gina Renzi has been booking The Rotunda for 26 years now, and things usually have to wrap by 11 pm for various reasons. That was the case all the times we booked stuff there. But maybe way back it used to go later. I seem to recall Gate to Moonbase Alpha events that Aharon Varady arranged at The Rotunda going 'til midnight, but that was nearly 25 years ago!

@lizbot - b&n was on the same side of street as the art institute, that's how I remember it --- and the MASSIVE GORGEOUS facade

@Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) - I LOVE that cover! LAdybug Transistor made it so lush! Have you seen that Bee-Gees doc that came out about a year ago? It's been on my list, but I haven't gotten to it

@Randy Marthins - oh man, I met two very good friends back then that I'm still friends with to this day who both moved to Philly to attend the Art Institute. I remember seeing art kids lingering outside that building all the time.

@Randy Marthins - And then my old apartment I had for most of my 20s was just around the corner from The Drake, which U.Arts used as an overflow dorm, so loads of art students there and it was a nearly weekly occurence that someone would break the no-smoking rule and set off the fire alarm in The Drake. The back of that building faced the back of my first floor studio and the kerfluffle from evacuating that big building woke me up in the middle of the night on more than one occasion!

@Rob from Maryland - As I spoke on air during that last mic break, I remembered the name of the horseshoe crab beach we trekked to about 15 years ago to watch the crab confluence during mating season: Kitt's Hummock! Funny name

Happy Rhodes is a big fave of mine along with other WPRB Dj's. Wondering if Suddenly Tammy was on your music radar from the mid 90's. I love them both!

@John Coffey - I'd heard of Suddenly, Tammy!, but never consciously heard their music. I need to rectify that! I know they were local.

I have that album, but I don't know where I put it. :D I love that cover in particular. Beautifully melancholic and melancholically beautiful. :D

Ooohhh, I've just realized another cover they did of the Smiths ("Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me"). That is fantastically melancholic. It captures the emotions of the music and lyrics perfectly. I like the original too, but this Low cover really nails it.

i saw peter gabriel in 1978, came to my college and after the show saw him come in to the perkins pancake house. went over to say how good the show was and he saif 'by the way mate, can you give us a lift back to out hotel?' his tour bus pulled in just as i and my date and he and his lady

were pulling out and he said 'oh, here's me mates - i'll get out.'

was a cool memory.

I got the Sound-Dust album at Tower Records in Manhattan (I think midtown) right after it was released. And yeah, right before 9/11 too. I was at the towers on 9/1.
