When their Sub Pop debut came out I was interning at a recording studio and I was sitting on a couch with the person who recorded said album watching MTV. They showed a Velocity Girl video (perhaps it was a premiere?) and said person promptly picked up the phone, called VG and informed them that in one shot they were singing into the wrong end of a vintage microphone.

@Jon - Speaking of running AND Superchunk.... I listened to this song and "No Hope" from the new album today while I was running!

Hope your run was a good one. I really felt like I had a breakthrough last night (even though the humidity went up 6% while I was running).

I'm really REALLY trying to get back to running a lot... today was a little rough because I went after 1:00 instead of being smart and going earlier when it was actually pretty nice weather for running and it was back to back days... but Superchink got me through it....

Yeah, I couldn't fully connect with the previous record but this one I'm all in on.

I usually run evenings for exactly this reason. If I can go out at 7 it is ideal. Waited until eight yesterday so it could cool off even further...

Totally agree.... I wanted to love the last one too (of course)... but these songs are hitting different.... my kids have been loving them too... part of the Summer 2025 Soundtrack I play for them in the car.

My dad, a hardcore runner, always gives me crap for running in the afternoon in the summer. Ha ha! I remember from when I was a kid him going out running at like 7 or 8 on summer nights.

I used to go out more in afternoons but my schedule has changed a fair bit.

Might take my kid to see Superchunk in September. At least that's the plan.

First episodic storytelling deal I'd checked out in a while.

Has there been some revolution in old casette rescues. The sound on this is rather better than other Habibi funk I've heard.

Did we discuss the reel-to-reel tape I had "baked" when I was in Chicago in June? Whatever they did worked, it sounds g.r.e.a.t. Could be similar here, if they had access to something beyond cassette.

Jon, Deaner of Ween has a funny story about baking old analog tape. No idea where I read it.

Got the digital stems a couple days ago. Sent the results off to be mixed ASAP.

Baking somehow revitalizes the magnetic vibrancy and brings old recordings back to life

I felt like an audio archeologist.

That's what the guy I dropped the 2" tape off with said would happen. They have a couple of small ovens in a closet they use for this process before digitizing.

i have a ninja foodie oven we replaced because it smelled like fried food i would give you if i wasn't 100 miles away. still works perfectly, just started to get greezy looking inside.

think it goes down to low temps like that with a timer.
