Going out to Rob! This song is allegedly about Mick Ralphs losing his guitar. The song "All the Way from Memphis" by Mott the Hoople features a prominent saxophone solo by Andy Mackay of Roxy Music. The song tells the story of a misplaced guitar shipment and includes the memorable line, "You look like a star but you're still on the dole".

Carlos Ramone. 5:48:17 PM
Just got the mail when I got home..if the heat ever stops and I leave the house I will definitely be the best dressed one wherever I go…thanks
Esoterica (host) 5:48:52 PM
hey carlos - i trust that is a good thing?
Carlos Ramone. 5:50:27 PM
Correct…very nice looking shirt
Alina Osborn 5:52:43 PM
Just wanted to let you know that at the start of your show when you mentioned having stopped by Cream King for a creamsickle my partner and I had *just* passed Cream King. So we did what any reasonable people would do and promptly turned around for a radio mandated ice cream date. She got the creamsickle.
Esoterica (host) 5:53:15 PM
hey alina - did you like it? I think it is good!
Carlos Ramone. 5:54:16 PM
and to extend the cream talk , I am having a cold can of Genny Cream Ale as I type
Alina Osborn 5:54:23 PM
She liked it a lot! I’m not big on creamsickle myself so I got a mix of moose tracks and cookies and cream 😄
Esoterica (host) 5:54:42 PM
yum!
Esoterica (host) 5:55:01 PM
ha, carlos! haven't had one in a loooong time.
Carlos Ramone. 6:01:15 PM
Probably the first beer I swiped from mom and dad..found out the hard way about returnable bottles back then..I don’t think they minded about nicking a bottle or 2 but they had to take a full case of empties back to distributor’s when picking up a fresh one
Esoterica (host) 6:02:52 PM
oh man, carlos
G Jax 6:09:21 PM
Any Mott for Mick yet?
Esoterica (host) 6:09:49 PM
hey G Jax! Not yet - got it cued up!
Commie Francis 6:11:15 PM
Can you see the witch can you see the witch
G Jax 6:11:39 PM
Cool I just got here but this is the only place I'm going hear any Mott. I guess I could hear some bad company today, but I'm not listening to classic rock crap stations
Esoterica (host) 6:12:08 PM
hey commie! yup!
Commie Francis 6:12:13 PM
I'm excited for mott too. I hope my husband gets back before the mott is over
Esoterica (host) 6:12:16 PM
i hear ya G Jax!
G Jax 6:12:34 PM
If you're an older guitar play fellow like I am, Mick Ross was a big deal when you were first playing guitar.
G Jax 6:12:45 PM
Ralphs
Esoterica (host) 6:13:01 PM
i am getting the drift you do not want to hear bad co.?
G Jax 6:13:42 PM
Oh, I love bad company. But that gets played on the radio here and there. Not enough actually but anyway it does get played. Mott the Hoople other than all the young dudes you're just not gonna hear.
Esoterica (host) 6:14:28 PM
well you know i play mott as well as ian hunter all the time!
Carlos Ramone. 6:14:36 PM
In my younger days I could never figure out how Bad Co wound up on Swan Song label
Mike Tropiano 6:14:40 PM
Really enjoying today's show. Thank you Esoterica.
G Jax 6:14:44 PM
And really when I say Mick Ralphs was a big deal to guitar players when they were first playing. I'm really speaking of bad company.
Esoterica (host) 6:15:25 PM
hey mike t!
Esoterica (host) 6:15:29 PM
thanks!
Esoterica (host) 6:15:53 PM

Rob from Maryland 🦀 6:33:55 PM
@Esoterica, would you be able to play Mott The Hoople's All The Way From Memphis? "The song may have been based on an actual event involving guitarist Mick Ralphs" according to wikipedia.
Esoterica (host) 6:34:13 PM
sure!
Esoterica (host) 6:34:24 PM
happy to!
G Jax 6:34:56 PM
I saw Mott at the Keswick 5 or 6 years ago. Ariel on guitar. Ian Hunter is a marvel. He's like 126 years old or something

Thank you so much, Esoterica! All The Way To Memphis was a UK top 10 hit in 1973 and I heard it on Radio Luxembourg back then when we were living in Europe. I still have the 45/single.
