@Lizbot (host) I love that on the mic break you described Mario Bava's "Danger: Diabolik" as a ridiculous fun movie. The 1960s euro-spy genre was of course so lovingly (and _perfectly_) sent up by Quentin Tarantino in "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" when career downward-spiraling actor Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) goes off to Italy to make cheesy James Bond ripoff action flicks. Even the soundtrack music excerpt sounded marvelously like "Driving Decoys" by Ennio Morricone. Ciao bella!

@Space Cowboy - Yikes! I can't tell if it's raining here in Princeton yet. This studio has no unblocked window. It's always a surprise when I open the door at 8 pm!

@Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) - I was looking at a map The Atlantic put on their site of unusually high humidity predictions for 40 states this summer, and predictably, the only non-humid states on the map were the west coast and the southwest. I hate humidity, and I love the desert, but it's a weather trade-off and fires scare the crap outta me

@Lizbot yeah, we heard about Lucy—Dennis especially is upset about it. I know we’ll be throwing some money that way when we get down there.

@Mary Jones - It's so messed up. I'm sure you saw photos of what she looked like in periods of major disrepair, like in the 70s. They do such a great job of maintaining her and doing community outreach now. My cousin lives near there and Lucy's such a draw for Margate/Ventnor

We were down the shore late March to late May. 1st day down there in March had surprisingly great high 80s temps. That 1st day we saw the usual dolphins and a whale (maybe 2) and... a surprise couple of seals sightings.

like it's not their best record by any stretch of the word but my goodness is a comeback album ever that consistent?

@Brian D - Were you specifically in LBI? I see more whales there than O.C. for sure, i guess since it's a barrier island. Lots of cow-nosed stingrays and dolphins too.

I would catch them on the drive home, frequently going from Philly to upper bucks county. I can remember laughing the entire time.

@Pengy - Lots of bad overdubbing in those old spaghetti westerns too since the actors were from all over! They had people who only spoke Italian, or only English, or only Spanish sharing scenes and they'd just fix it in post! Their lips never quite matched up!

@Coffeemancer - that made my mouth water. I can't read anything about almonds or raspberries and not get hungry. Two of my favorite flavors

I was always aware of Sparks and I knew some of their stuff, but I kinda became a fan after watching that

@G Jax - I loved the doc, esp when they talked about their dad's influence on their taste in music and movies. Their dad looked so much like Ron. Lots of photos and footage I hadn't seen before in that part.

@G Jax - Of course I love Sparks so much, I would say, I'd naturally enjoy the doc, BUT that can cut both ways. I was worried it wouldnt do them justice, esp since Edgar Wright hadn't made a documentary before, but I was happy with it

Yeah, it was a very well done documentary. Of course, my first exposure to Sparks was probably the same as many who would've been exposed to them any other way..Roller Coaster!!!!

@G Jax - The funny thing is: I love the director Leos Carax (I love "Holy Motors" and his Monsieur Merde character), and I don't care that much for the narrative movies of Edgar Wright, so I was reeeeally looking forward to the Carax/Spark collaborative movie, Annette, and feeling unsure about the Wright "Sparks Brothers" doc. After waiting years after hearing about the Carax/Sparks project, Annette was a disappointment to me, and I liked the wright doc, go figure!

While I definitely would have had fun, I doubt I would have survived the 70s and 80s

@G Jax - Yeah, Rollercoaster AND their music was all over "Valley Girl," which is so funny to me to think all these preppies would be playing Sparks at their parties in the early 80s! ha!

@Pengy - I loved the 80s, but I was a kid. Don't know how I would have felt about it as an adult! I was alive in the 70s, but enough to remember much other than two seconds of Carter being president and a few other foggy memories!

Hey @Lizbot, great set today!! Kept me bouncing along while I finished out another joyous day of deliveries. I especially loved the cheap dinosaurs track which kicked in the moment the skies opened up and the deluge began. I turned the volume up, not down, as I dodged flying tree limbs omw to the next customer. Also thrilled to later find out that it was from Dino Lionetti who've I've chilled with on a few occasions, as he dated my wife bf at the time... Have a good night!!!
